  When a form with a run at server is added there will be two forms with runat server and another error occurs. Can some one give me an idea. Thankx in advance. • Deploying ASP.Net MVC application

  I've recently reached the stage where an ASP.net MVC application I am developing is ready to be deployed to the production server. I've worked out how to publish the application - I've got all the files on the server, and can access them over the internet. However, I can't work out how to deploy my database. The server has the SQL Server Management Studio Express installed, as the database used is a SQL Server Express database. I have the server instance up and running - I just don't know how to add the tables, etc. to the database. I have created the "CREATE TABLE" scripts on the development machine, but as far as I can see, Management Studio does not provide any way to actually run these scripts. I have looked through all the menu items that I could see, and none of them worked. Even using the "Create new query..." option and pasting the script in didn't work. When I try "File-Open..." and select a script to run, set the correct database from the dropdown list on the toolbar, and then execute the script, it complains about not finding the database file (even when I set the USE [...] statement to the correct path. Deleting the USE [...] statement, the script complains that it can't find the [dbo].[Invoices] object; however, it shouldn't be able to find it, because its trying to create it! tl;dr: What's the best way to make sure that the database on the production machine matches the database on my development machine?

• Managing multiple customer databases in ASP.NET MVC application

  I am building an application that requires separate SQL Server databases for each customer. To achieve this, I need to be able to create a new customer folder, put a copy of a prototype database in the folder, change the name of the database, and attach it as a new "database instance" to SQL Server. The prototype database contains all of the required table, field and index definitions, but no data records. I will be using SMO to manage attaching, detaching and renaming the databases. In the process of creating the prototype database, I tried attaching a copy of the database (companion .MDF, .LDF pair) to SQL Server, using Sql Server Management Studio, and discovered that SSMS expects the database to reside in c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\MyDatabaseName.MDF Is this a "feature" of SQL Server? Is there a way to manage individual databases in separate directories? Or am I going to have to put all of the customer databases in the same directory? (I was hoping for a little better control than this). NOTE: I am currently using SQL Server Express, but for testing purposes only. The production database will be SQL Server 2008, Enterprise version. So "User Instances" are not an option.

• (500) Internal Server Error with C# and Web Dev 2008 Express

  The code below is generic, found in a variety of places, including a book I have. I have used it as a base for a working program in VS 2005. Now I've resurrected it with my current Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition and I seem to have problems connecting it to my default development server (I don't have IIS on my XP). The error is: (500) Internal Server Error. • Update Web Reference in Visual Studio

  Hi, I have inherited a web site project that makes use of a number of WCF Web Services hosted on a BizTalk server. We have two environments that I need to deploy this project to, with different URLs for the different BizTalk servers. i.e. In the Staging environment, I need to point the services at xx.xx.xx.101 In the Live environment, I need to point them at xx.xx.xx.102, or whatever. Currently, we've got all of the URLs stored in keys in the web.config file, so that we can change them dynamically... Unfortunately this isn't working! If I change the URL in the web.config to something other than what the project was compiled with, I get an error when calling the service: Server did not recognize the value of HTTP Header SOAPAction: xx.xx.xx.101\ServiceName\MethodName I'm told that the only way they've known to deploy this is to update the web.config URLs, change all of the web references in Visual Studio to match, click on "update web reference" for each reference in Visual Studio, and then compile. It's driving me mad! I've written a pre-build NAnt script to go through and replace all instances of the URL found anywhere in the project directory, and even that isn't making any difference. There must be something else being pulled down from the service when I click the "update reference", but I'm new to working with web services, and so I'm not sure what. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to do this programatically? Thanks.

• Connection Pool Strategy: Good, Bad or Ugly?

  I'm in charge of developing and maintaining a group of Web Applications that are centered around similar data. The architecture I decided on at the time was that each application would have their own database and web-root application. Each application maintains a connection pool to its own database and a central database for shared data (logins, etc.) A co-worker has been positing that this strategy will not scale because having so many different connection pools will not be scalable and that we should refactor the database so that all of the different applications use a single central database and that any modifications that may be unique to a system will need to be reflected from that one database and then use a single pool powered by Tomcat. He has posited that there is a lot of "meta data" that goes back and forth across the network to maintain a connection pool. My understanding is that with proper tuning to use only as many connections as necessary across the different pools (low volume apps getting less connections, high volume apps getting more, etc.) that the number of pools doesn't matter compared to the number of connections or more formally that the difference in overhead required to maintain 3 pools of 10 connections is negligible compared to 1 pool of 30 connections. The reasoning behind initially breaking the systems into a one-app-one-database design was that there are likely going to be differences between the apps and that each system could make modifications on the schema as needed. Similarly, it eliminated the possibility of system data bleeding through to other apps. Unfortunately there is not strong leadership in the company to make a hard decision. Although my co-worker is backing up his worries only with vagueness, I want to make sure I understand the ramifications of multiple small databases/connections versus one large database/connection pool.

• Using the ASP.NET Membership API with SQL Server / SQL Azure: The new &ldquo;System.Web.Providers&rdquo; namespace

  The Membership API came in .NET 2.0 and was a huge enhancement in building web applications with users, managing roles, permissions etc.,  The Membership API by default uses SQL Express and until Visual Studio 2008, it was available only through the ASP.NET Configuration manager screen (Website – ASP.NET Configuration) or (Project – ASP.NET Configuration) and for every application, one has to manually visit this place to start using the Security and other settings.  Upon doing that the default SQL Express database aspnet.mdf is created to store all the user profiles. Starting Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0, the Default Website template includes the Membership API controls as a part of the page i.e. When you create a “File – New – ASP.NET Web Application” or an “ASP.NET MVC Application”, by default the Login/Register controls are enabled in the MasterPage and they are termed under “ApplicationServices” setting in the web.config file with connection string pointed to the SQL Express database. In fact, when you run the default website and click on “Logon” –> “Register”, and enter the details for registration and click “Register”, that is the time the aspnet.mdf file is created with the tables for Users, Roles, UsersInRoles, Profile etc., Now, this uses the default SQL Express database within the App_Data folder.  If you want to move your Membership information to some other database such as SQL Server, SQL CE or SQL Azure, you need to manually run the aspnet_regsql command and specify the destination database name. This would create all the Tables, Procedures and Views required to handle the Membership information.  Thereafter you can change the connection string for “ApplicationServices” to point to the database where you had run all the scripts. Now, enter “System.Web.Providers” Alpha. This is available as a part of the NuGet package library.  Scott Hanselman has a neat post describing the steps required to get it up and running as well as doing the basic changes  at http://www.hanselman.com/blog/IntroducingSystemWebProvidersASPNETUniversalProvidersForSessionMembershipRolesAndUserProfileOnSQLCompactAndSQLAzure.aspx Pretty much, it covers what the new System.Web.Providers do. One thing I wanted to clarify is that, the new “System.Web.Providers” add a lot of new settings which are also marked as the defaults, in the web.config.  Even now, they use SQL Express as the default database.  But, if you change the connection string for “DefaultConnection” under connectionStrings to point to your SQL Server or SQL Azure, Membership API would now be able to create all the tables, procedures and views at the destination specified (i.e. SQL Server or SQL Azure). In my case, I modified the DefaultConneciton to point to my SQL Azure database.  Next, I hit F5 to run the application.  The default view loads.  I clicked on “LogOn” and then “Register” since I knew there are no tables/users as of then.  One thing to note is that, I had put “NewDB” as the database name in the connection string that points to SQL Azure.  NewDB wasn’t existing and I would assume it would be created before the tables/views/procedures for Membership are created. Once I clicked on the “Register” to register my first username, it took a while and then registered as well as logged in me in.  Also, I went to the SQL Azure Management Portal and verified that there exists “NewDB” which has just been created I could also connect to the SQL Azure database “NewDB” from Management Studio and found that the tables now don’t have the aspnet_ prefix.  The tables were simply Users, Roles, UsersInRoles, Profiles etc., So, with a few clicks and configuration change, I could actually set up the user base for my application on SQL Azure and even make the SessionState, Roles, Profiles being stored in SQL Azure database. The new System.Web.Proivders also required MARS (MultipleActiveResultSets=true) setting since it uses Entity Framework for the DAL operations.  Also, the “Project – ASP.NET Configuration” screen can be used to further create/manage users/roles etc., although the data is stored on the remote database. With that, a long pending request from the community to have the ability to configure and use remote databases for Application users management without having to run the scripts from SQL Express is fulfilled.   I have deployed the default asp.net mvc 4 web api project to my windows server 2008 RC and am experiensing some issues with calling the web api actions. I'm quite new in the server/iis configuration part. I can open the home page, but the API part doesnt work. • How do I print unprintable web pages?

  I want to print out a web page that seems to be unprintable in both Firefox and Chrome. It is multiple pages but when I print it out in Firefox and Chrome, they only print the first page. The only way I have found to print out the page is to print it in IE in XPS Document Writer format. Is there a tool (e.g., web browser or web browser plugin) that will help? Or is there a setting I can use in Firefox or Chrome?

• Linux: setting up an elite/high-anonimity Web proxy on a dedicated server

  I'm renting a dedicated server which I'd like to use to "surf the Web": basically I want to always surf the Web from the same static IP (the one of my dedicated server). I can do it by running Xvnc/FreeNX on the dedicated server, but this is kinda slow and clumsy (I tried it). What are the steps needed to install an "elite/high-anonimity" Web proxy on a dedicated (Debian) Linux server knowing that my two requirements are: I'm the only person that needs access to the proxy all I want is that my broadband (dynamic) IP is completely hidden (I want to always surf from my dedicated server's IP). Note that using the static IP people can find my domains and my real name and I'm perfectly fine with that (actually it is what I want). What I don't want is people knowing from which dynamic IP (broadband) I'm connecting. What are the steps needed to do that? (basically I don't care about "anonimity", what I want is to appear to surf from a static IP and I think I need what is called an "elite" Web proxy to do that, but I'm not sure) Technical infos and sample configuration most welcome :)

• Reverse proxy for mailserver (SMTP + HTTP for web client)

  I'm looking at doing some reverse proxy work for a mail server with corresponding web client. Both servers are running on the same machine, this is not a server with a high load. :) The solution I've discussed with friends is having the mail server/web client on our internal network. Then to put a reverse proxy on the DMZ to service both SMTP and web client HTTP-traffic to the mail server on the internal network. From what I understand this is the recommended secure solution? So far I've thought for the SMTP-proxy part of using postfix which will receive mail, do some spamhause and similar anti-spam measures and if it all checks out, send the mail to the mail server on the inside. The mail server on the inside will send all outgoing mail to the proxy which will then send it out on the Internet. For the web client I'm not sure exactly which software I should be running on the proxy machine, I've been thinking about using Squid -- but that's basically based on the fact that I know squid is a http proxy. The web client data will be sent out over SSL. Reading around some here on Serverfault I've seen other people using Apache with mod_proxy+mod_security for similar situations. Am I thinking correctly for this solution? What software would you guys use and with which modules? Thanks in advance for the help! :)

  I installed IIS 7.5 (Windows 7) on two different PCs, one PC saves configuration to applicationHost.config and the other to web.config! Screenshot: As you can see, the PC on the left does not contain the settings (they are stored in applicationHost.config) and the PC to the right does in fact store the settings in web.config. I have not and hope not to modify the configuration files by hand and would like to do it using IIS Manager only. Does anyone know why this happens or if there is some setting to force configuration to the web.config file? Thank you. • Recovering database files from a corrupted VHD

  We have a SQL server hosted on a virtual machine. Our hosting company updated/restarted the server and for some reason the virtual machines became unbootable. We've spoken to Microsoft and used a few higher level tools to attempt to recover the virtual machines but were unsuccessful. In browsing the file system the database folder doesn't even appear. I'm wondering if there are any lower level tools that might be able to find and copy the database files. As far as I know the physical hard drive is ok, so I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the files themselves even if the rest of the virtual machine file-system is a loss. Obviously we're in a bit of a bind, and any help/ suggestions are very much appreciated.

• Migrated SQL Server database suddenly in "Restoring" state

  Edit: This is still a live prob, less than an hour after trying RESTORE ... WITH RECOVERY. I backed up a SQL Server 2005 database and restored it to a new SQL 2008 instance. The restore was quick and successful. Everything was fine for an hour or so. Suddenly, the database is now stuck in "(Restoring...)" state in Management Studio and has a green arrow icon, and my application login is failing! Any advice? :-) Edit: This is a live application. If I delete and try again, the hour or so's data will be lost.

I've seen a few tutorials but mostly focused on Windows Server 2003. What I've done so far: Created a specific user account for the website / app pool, Renamed Admin account, Installed FTPS, Configured firewall to block any non-public service (web / https), Configured firewall to allow access to management interfaces only from specific IP addresses (rdp, IIS management, ftp) Maybe a few other things but can't remember at the moment... ICMP is allowed... Should I disable all except ping? Port scan reveals only web and https ports. Any other suggestions? Thanks

• Unable to map to web folder using WebDAV client on Windows Server 2008 R2

  I have a client running Windows Server 2008 R2 on several servers. One of the servers is also running SharePoint 3.0 and my client has created a web folder to map to. I can map to the web folder from all Server 2008 R2 boxes that have the WebDAV client (part of Desktop Experience feature) installed, except for the server the folder resides on. When I attempt to map to the web folder on the server which the folder resides, I am repeatedly prompted to enter my credentials. I am using the same account that I used to map the web folder on the other servers. I have also tried mapping from the command line and receive 'Access Denied' What may be causing the problem? I would think that if I can map to the drive from one server, I should be able to map the drive from the rest as long as the WebDAV client is installed, especially on the server where the folder is located.   I had a server crash due to a broken iSCSI link (the filesystem went into read-only mode). This allows the MySQL server to start. But when I try to do a mysqldump of the database or a SELECT * INTO OUTFILE "filename" FROM broken_table; it seems to endlessly just export the same line over and over again. I have also tried http://code.google.com/p/innodb-tools/. But this tool fails with an error that 'blob' type is not supported. If I try to access the data using the PHP application it crashes MySQL: `100603 19:19:19 - mysqld got signal 11 ; This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built, or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
