If I throw my MySQL/PHP app up on a Amazon EC2 instance (using their AWS Free Usage Tier program) and couple it with CloudFlare (the free plan of course) roughly how many daily visitors can I comfortably handle before performance starts to suffer? Just looking for a rough estimate or educated guess - I understand this setup might be less than ideal but I'm still very curious nonetheless.
Thanks in advance
How can I use VLC to convert media? for instance WAV to MP3.
I searched the internet and all the tutorials I found describe the process on older VLC versions (my version is 1.0.0)
I have an Amazon EC2 micro instance. I believe that this is 1 core (or 2 for periodic bursts) with 4 CPU's. I'm getting confused with the terminology (ECU vs CPU vs Core) but really I would like to see how busy each CPU is. When I look at top it seems to be showing me just the cores. I want to see if my process is be spread out across the available processors and how busy each is, what is the appropriate command to do this?
I have an Amazon EC2 + SSL just installed on GoDaddy.
I have successfully managed to install it and get the green https on the main domain https://www.example.com
however it doesn't any https://www.example.com/something but the route works under http://www.example.com
I am using an .htacess file for some rewrite.
Options -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
the Ec2 instance is ubuntu if that helps in anyway.
I'd like to force myself to use the correct (right side or left side) Shift, Ctrl, and Alt keys depending on what letter I'm typing. For instance I'd like to use the right Shift key when typing 'A' and the left Shift key when typing 'P'. I find myself using only the left side a lot and I'm looking for a way to set the mappings on my machine so that it only responds to correct pairings. I'm running Fedora, but any Linux distro support would be an acceptable answer.
I'm planning to use OpenVZ in an old machine I have at home.
I want to know if a dumped OpenVZ instance image can be exported to other formats (like VirtualBox or Vmware).
Thanks!
We're trying to figure out how many licenses we need of a desktop data analysis package which connects directly to our SSAS instance.
I'd like know if it's possible to query the history of connection or queries by user so we can determine who is actively using the software.
Any ideas?
I've tried using "Cache My Work" (http://cachemywork.codeplex.com/), but unfortunately, it only restores one instance of a program that was open upon rebooting. So when I have five separate Adobe Acrobat Pro windows open (each with its own PDF document), when I reboot, Cache My Work will only reopen one of them (not sure how CMW chooses which PDF to reopen, either).
Besides switching to another PDF program (like one with tabs), is there a program that can do this?
Is there a way to redirect an user depending on is browser locale ?
For instance, I'd like to redirect to a page called index.en.html all users who doesn't have their browser locale set to French.
Could I do this with Apache and .htaccess ?
What does CPU time exactly consist of?
For instance, is the time taken to access a page from the RAM (at which point, the CPU is most likely idling) part of the CPU time? I'm not talking about fetching the page from the disk here, just fetching it from the RAM.
Thanks
When I right click anywhere I get an option to add a new file file a specified extension. I would like to add some custom files into this menu, so I can right click and create a new PHP file for instance.
How can I do this?
I'm trying to create a cron job that uses ssh to login to a remote server and run a script as a different user. I try:
* * * * * source $HOME/.keychain/$HOST-sh && sudo -u $USER $PATH/$SCRIPT
but this doesn't work because there is no -t option specified for ssh. The cron job needs to source the keychain file in order to work without a password, but I'm not sure where to include the -t option for ssh in this instance.
Hi, I'd like to start using S3 and EC2 to host some of my company's simpler websites. I would like to be able to identify all of the costs associated with running each site (instance run-time costs + storage + data transfers) so that the costs can be allocated (cross-charged) to business units in my company.
Is it possible to identify all the costs associated with each site in this way if all of the sites are running on separate instances ?
thanks
All the Drupal documentation I can find has a step of "going to a browser and continuing installation there".
How can I perform these steps from my command line?
I am trying to have a site where I can fire up an AWS instance and install Drupal etc by command line.
Thanks!
When i right click on SMTP (in IIS 6.0) and click start i get the following error
"The service has returned a service-specific error code. Check the windows event viewer for details"
When i look at the event viewer i get this message...
"The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code."
Hi,

I have to run this command to initialize gitosis:
sudo -H -u git gitosis-init < /home/ec2-user/id_rsa.pub
But that asks me for a password for ec2-user:
$ sudo -H -u git gitosis-init < id_rsa.pub
[sudo] password for ec2-user:
I do not have a password as i use the default .pem key file to login.
I know i can probably login as the git user and do this, but is there any other way?

Our Tomcat 6.0.29 goes down after reaching its maximum number of Threads. I would really appreciate any help with it because it is a production server.

Hello, I have two wifi cards and two separated internet connections.
I connect to the Internet with both of them but one does all of the internet transactions (and I have not seen any place where I can specify which one I would prefer to use!)
What I would like to do is use one of them for the browser and skype only, and the other one for stock exchange software for instance.
Any idea if it is possible?

I have Chrome open most of the time in the lower right corner of my screen and work mostly with tabs. Sometimes I need a new Chrome window (instance) and hit cmd-n.
Now the new window always opens up in the upper left and I have to center it.
Is there a way to automatically center new chrome windows (or maybe maximize them..)?
Does anyone know of a free utility that allows you to paste into it a graphics file (any type would work for me, jpg, bmp, png, etc) and it will size the file to within a preset size boundary?
For instance, if I preset it to resize files to be a maximum of 400 wide by 300 tall, and I paste in a file 500x500, it would shrink the file to fit within the 300 tall limit.
Thanks.
I run a job every minute to reindex my site's content.
Today, the search engine died, and when I logged in there were hundreds of orphan processes that had been started by cron.
Is there another way using some kind of existing software that will let me execute a job every minute, but that won't launch another instance if that job doesn't return (i.e. because the search engine process has failed)?
