  • Using memory-based cache together with conventional cache

    Hi! Here's the deal. We would have taken the complete static html road to solve performance issues, but since the site will be partially dynamic, this won't work out for us. What we have thought of instead is using memcache + eAccelerator to speed up PHP and take care of caching for the most used data. Here's our two approaches that we have thought of right now: Using memcache on all<< major queries and leaving it alone to do what it does best. Usinc memcache for most commonly retrieved data, and combining with a standard harddrive-stored cache for further usage. The major advantage of only using memcache is of course the performance, but as users increases, the memory usage gets heavy. Combining the two sounds like a more natural approach to us, even though the theoretical compromize in performance. Memcached appears to have some replication features available as well, which may come handy when it's time to increase the nodes. What approach should we use? - Is it stupid to compromize and combine the two methods? Should we insted be focusing on utilizing memcache and instead focusing on upgrading the memory as the load increases with the number of users? Thanks a lot!

    How can I list the numbers 01 to 12 (one for each of the 12 months) in such a way so that the current month always comes last where the oldest one is first. In other words, if the number is grater than the current month, it's from the previous year. e.g. 02 is Feb, 2011 (the current month right now), 03 is March, 2010 and 09 is Sep, 2010 but 01 is Jan, 2011. In this case, I'd like to have [09, 03, 01, 02].     This explanation isn't clear to me. Let me describe an application for web site recognition. Suppose that we want to know what everyone is doing with the web at starbuck. We can use wireshark or other programs to sniff all the packets. By grouping all the secondary connections with the primary one, then we would be able to get a much easier picture of user's primary activities. Is this talking about being able to recognize which websites each of the laptops are connecting to?

  • What simple methods are there to wrap a c++ based object model with a COM interface

    I have a pre-existing c++ object model which represents the business layer tier of an application. I want to be able to expose the object model to applications written in other languages i.e vbscript, VB, javascript etc. I believe the best way of doing this is to wrap the business objects with a COM layer. What fast and effective methods are there for doing this. Any advice, links to practical "How to" documentation would be very much appreciated. Because I'm starting a bounty on this , here's a few extra guidelines for potential bounty hunters :- 1)I've decided on an ATL approach 2)I'm now specifically looking for links to really good "how to and quickly" documentation on wrapping a pre-existing c++ object model to make it useable by a scripting language like javascript 3) Something with small working examples showing me what code needs to be added to what files, e.g what goes into the cpp , idl and hpp/h etc. It' must include an example I can compile test and change to get a better understanding.

    I am playing around with AngularJS and have not been able to solve this problem. I have a view that has a form to upload a file to a node server. So far I have manage to do this using some directives and a service. I allow the user to send a custom name to the POST data if they desire. What I wan to accomplish is that when the user selects a file the filename models auto populates.     I need to return a full directory name from inside a specified directory that contains .default in the folder name. Basically I'm adding a line in a backup script to backup firefox bookmarks, but the profile name is going to be different on every machine and I need a way to find the folder the bookmarks.html file resides without knowing the firefox profile name I've looked at FIND and FINDSTR but neither seem to be what I need. I also looked at this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2252785/windows-batch-file-get-folders-path-and-store-them-in-variable It was closer to what I'm looking for, but I just need a folder name, and to use something like regexp to find it Any suggestions on commands to look at or strategies to use?

    I am developing an application in MVC 3. I installed this provider via Nuget . Basically, it allows to use any part of memberships, rules and profiles with a .sdf (compact) database. I need the "Web Site Administration Tool" use this provider. But I can not use it. Already checked the web.config and everything is ok. When I open the "Web Site Administration Tool" on the Security I click test (any provider) and the error happens. The following images.   • Best approach for a scalable PHP (AJAX based) chat system

    Hi, I'm building a chat system for a company and I'm wondering as to what the best way to build the system would be? The current setup we have is a Nginx HTTP Server with PHP and Memcacheq (as a message queue that appends the chat messages to the user's own queue). We then poll the Nginx server (through a Comet style request) and query the message queue for updates. Is it a good idea to use a message queue such as Memcacheq to handle a chat system that has both user-to-user and site-wide chat or is it best to just stick to MySQL? Thanks!

  • Host a subdomain from an IIS7 server on another server

    I am running a network with two server, one running SBS 2008 which hosts a majority of the network services (DNS, DHCP, Exchange, IIS, DC, AD...), including the primary webpage at mydomain.com. The other server is a linux box running an apache web server. I'm trying to set the apache server to host the site site2.mydomain.com. I have changed the DNS settings on the first server so that site2.mydomain.com can be accessed from the internal network, but I cannot access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I have tried using server farms and application request routing cache, as described on this page, http://forums.iis.net/t/1156458.aspx, but I still can't access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I don't have much experience with web servers, I usually just administer local networks, so I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

How should I code the selectCar method? I've tried a few things like: val1 = $('tr input[name=selectedCar]:checked').parent().find('#cars').html(); val1 = $("td input[name='selectedCar']:checked").parents().find('.cars').html(); val1 = $('selectedCar').checked; but I can't get the proper values. I'm using prototype, but the solution can be plain javascript as well.

    We are deploying web applications in java using tomcat on client machines across the country. Once they are installed, we want to allow a remote access to these web applications through a central server, but we do not want our clients to have to open ports on their routers. Is there a way to tunnel the http traffic in a way that the central server can access the web application that is behind the firewall ? The central server has a static ip address and we have full control over it. We don't need to access the filesystem, we only want to access the web application itself through a browser.

'</a></li>'; } echo "</ul>"; works fine, but its a long list and i would like to split it into ul chunks so that i can make columns. maybe like 5 results per ul. instead of one ul... i tried wrapping in a for statement but then just wound up outputting the results 5 times...oops...

    I'm writing an application in WPF using the MVVM pattern. In my application I've got an IPopupWindowService which I use to create a popup dialog window. So to show a ViewModel in a popup window you'd do something like this: var container = ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance<IUnityContainer>(); var popupService = container.Resolve<IPopupWindowService>(); var myViewModel = container.Resolve<IMyViewModel>(); popupService.Show((ViewModelBase)myViewModel); This is all well and good. What I want to do is be able to set the MinHeight and MinWidth on the View bound to myViewModel and have the popup window use those settings so that a user cannot make the window smaller than its contents will allow. At the moment when the user shrinks the window the contents stops resizing but the window doesn't.   • Create FTP accounts with access to just some folders in the web directory

    I own a VPS server. At the moment I havent installed any FTP server on it, I am using SSH and SFTP only. I am using Debian 6 Squeeze and Apache2 service. The web directory is in /var/www/ Well, I wanted to create different FTP accounts and give access to some people to them (one account per user). In my web directory I have an structure like this: /var/www/mtaplugins/music/mplayer/music/ /var/www/mapuploader/ and more folders inside. I want to create an FTP account which should be able to just access one of those folders and the folders inside them. I would appreciate some recomendations or stept to follow before installing anything or doing anythong, because I dont have any idea about this. I was thinking in using ProFTPd but as I saw in the documentation it would just create an account for each user in my server, and I want to not create more users (I always use root) Thanks in advance

  • Building a ctypes-"based" C library with distutils

    Following this recommendation, I have written a native C extension library to optimise part of a Python module via ctypes. I chose ctypes over writing a CPython-native library because it was quicker and easier (just a few functions with all tight loops inside). I've now hit a snag. If I want my work to be easily installable using distutils using python setup.py install, then distutils needs to be able to build my shared library and install it (presumably into /usr/lib/myproject). However, this not a Python extension module, and so as far as I can tell, distutils cannot do this. I've found a few references to people other people with this problem: Someone on numpy-discussion with a hack back in 2006. Somebody asking on distutils-sig and not getting an answer. Somebody asking on the main python list and being pointed to the innards of an existing project. I am aware that I can do something native and not use distutils for the shared library, or indeed use my distribution's packaging system. My concern is that this will limit usability as not everyone will be able to install it easily. So my question is: what is the current best way of distributing a shared library with distutils that will be used by ctypes but otherwise is OS-native and not a Python extension module? Feel free to answer with one of the hacks linked to above if you can expand on it and justify why that is the best way. If there is nothing better, at least all the information will be in one place.
