  • How to setup bindings for development IIS 7.5 with lot of sites

    I am a programmer in a small ASP.NET shop with very little expirience in server administration, and I have to setup IIS 7.5 to host lot of sites on newly installed windows server 2008 R2, these sites are test "clones" for sites on "real" web server and they should be accessible only in local network (domain). Developers should add new sites for our new customers. Project managers use this server to check progress and test new sites and new features, QA people have to have access to this site and test before we copy it to the "real" web server. Developers only have access to IIS console, in fact they can use RDP to test server with their developer domain credentials and permissions, also developers are local admins on that machine (tester). On our previous server I used different port numbers for each site. That worked but don't like this solution, I would prefer to use subdomains. But here are the problems: manually adding DNS records is not an option because we do not wont that developers have to administer domain DNS server, and currently this had to be done with domain administrator credentials. Is there a some way to add DNS record automatically ? I tried to add DNS record for subdomains on test server with wildcard (*.tester) and that seems to work for some time but that change coused some bad problems in our domain network and admin forbid me to mess with DNS, he said that I have to add DNS record for every subdomain manually and that I can not use wildcards, and there is nothing that I can do about it, mainly for "politicall" reasons :( obviously our admin is pretty much uncooperative, outsorced from different organization and I can't do anything about that. can I add another DNS server on that machine ? What must be setup on clients machines to "tell" them to use domain DNS server and tester domain server ? So please I need someone to give me some advice, what should I do ? Is different port numbers only option left ? Thanks !

    For example what is the alternative to this command without quotation marks: CD "c:\Documents and Settings" The full reason I don't want to use quotation marks is that this command DOES work: SVN add mypathname\*.* but this command DOES NOT work : SVN add "mypathname\*.*" The problem being when I change mypathname for a path with spaces in it I need to quote the whole thing. For example: SVN add "c:\Documents and Settings\username\svn\*.*" But when I try this I get the following error message: svn: warning: 'c:\Documents and Settings\username\svn\*.*' not found

    I just migrated from XP x86 to Win7 x64 (clean install). I had a couple of data drives in my XP x86 system that I physically moved to my Win7 x64 system. When browsing a directory in any of the transferred drives, the only option available in the 'new' context menu is "Folder", i.e., Right-Click inside a folder New Folder (this is similar behavior for Win7 when using the context menu in c:\Program Files): However, whenever creating a new folder within any of the directories, all the context menu new items are available within the new folder: Steps I've taken that have failed to add the new context menu items: Removing all security permissions from a directory and sub-directories. Replacing them with new permissions. As well as removing inheritable permissions from the parent. Taking explicit ownership of a directory and sub-directories. Combing the above two. Sample of Effective Permissions that do not work: Steps I've taken that have succeeded to add the new context menu items: Adding the "Everyone" group to the drive and giving the group explicit "Modify" privileges. Giving the "Everyone" group explicit privileges smells wrong. I'm an administrator on my system; why should I have to add the "Everyone" group as well? Adding my username to the drive and giving full permissions. Again, since I'm an administrator on my system and the administrators group already has full control of the drive/directories/folders, why should I have to explicitly add my user name to the security permissions? Finally, The Question: Is it possible to have the New Item context menu have all available options by default without having to explicitly add the everyone group or a specific user name to the security permissions? I'm suspecting that the option may not be available unless the username is explicitly added to the security permissions. Of note: I've seen the registry hacks for updating the new items context menu; my preference is to avoid such hacks and return the functionality to the expected behavior an administrator should have.

    Using Excel 2010, I want a single formula to apply to all cells in a column. I see documentation for a feature called "Calculated Columns". That is exactly what I want, but when I follow the instructions I only end up creating a formulate in a single cell - not the whole column. I don't want to use "Fill" or "Copy" because the number or rows in the sheet changes periodically and maintaining the formulas would be very tedious.

    I can see from this page here: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/ That the correct amount of free ram is on the "-/+ buffers/cache" line. The extra ram being used is for disk caching. However, I noticed that the total amount of memory used listed in "-/+ buffers/cache" line is significantly less than the sum total of the "RES" column of the processes shown in top. And AFAIK, the "RES" column is how much physical memory is being used by a process. How do you explain this discrepancy?

    I have a CheckBoxList that contains Employee Names on a Wizard Step. When employees are selected and the active step is changed, the Wizard1_ActiveStepChanged function is called and it dynamically creates a DropDownList Array for each employee that is selected. Each DropDownList specifies a condition of the employee. The DropDownList is created properly. When the user clicks submit, the DropDownList array is deleted and no selected values can be pulled from the array. I understand this is an issue with the PostBack and can be fixed with ViewState, but I am trying to figure out what I can do to fix it. ViewState is enabled for the checkboxlist and the DropDownList. But if it is not Monday, excel will generate 3 emails with only 1 attachment/link. My issue is that In my excel spreadsheet there is a tab called Actual and it is populated with a date. If this date within my excel spreadsheet is changed on a monday, to any other day of the week, my vba code will still treat the program as if it is Monday. I need an IF statement that will allow the 3 emails with the 3 attachements/links to generate given the date typed in on the Actual tab within my spreadsheet. I hope this isnt confusing.

  • Is it safe to assert a functions return type?

    This question is related to this question. I have several models stored in a collection. I loop through the collection and validate each field. Based on the input, a field can either be successful, have an error or a warning. Is it safe to unit test each decorator and assert that the type of object returned is what you would expect based on the given input? I could perhaps see this being an issue for a language with function return types since my validation function can return one of 3 types.     I am having I hope only two issues currently. I have had help on this on a previous question that I have asked but now I am running into different issues. My current issues now is that I need to print out into a JTextField a sorted array. I do not have questions about how to sort the array I just would like help on how to get the array to print to the JTextField when the Bubble Sort button is pressed.
