• Serve web application error messages from Http server [closed]

  I have nginx as a http server with tomcat as a backend (using proxy_pass). It works great but I want to define my own error pages (404, 500, etc.) and that they are served by nginx and not tomcat. For example I have the following resource: https://domain.com/resource which doesn't exist. If I [GET] that URL then I get a Not Found message from Tomcat and not from nginx. What I want is that every time Tomcat responds with a 404 (or any other error message) nginx sends itself a message to the user: some html file accessible by nginx. The way I have my nginx server configured is very easy, just: location / { proxy_pass http://localhost:8080/<webapp-name>/; } And I've configured port 8080, which is tomcat, as not accessible from outside this machine. I don't think that using different location directives in nginx configuration will work, because there are some resources that depend on the URL: https://domain.com/customer/<non-existent-customer-name>/[GET] Will always return 404 (or any other error message), while: https://domain.com/customer/<existent-customer>/[GET] Will return anything different from 404 (the customer exists). Is there any way of serving Tomcat (Application Server) error messages with Nginx (http Server)? To check the message sent by the proxy_pass directive and act upon it?

• Permission issues causes Unity Segmentation fault

  I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and I can boot to the unity-greeter and login just fine, but after login I just get a black screen with a cursor. I have tried following http://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI http://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver and the manual install of the downloaded AMD drivers. All have the same affect. Also I have read Black screen after login with cursor I get a black screen after logging in ubuntu 13.04 black screen after login Ubuntu 13.10 - Black screen after login session Ubuntu 13.04 - Black screen with unresponsive cursor Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 Problem - Boots into Blank Black Screen All of which were no further help then the two support articles about ATI drivers So I switched back to the default drivers and went a little further into debugging, when I do ctrl+alt+F1 and login and try unity --debug > unity_start.log then ctrl+alt+F8 the screen stays black with a cursor and when I switch back ctrl+alt+F1 the contents of the log output are http://pastebin.com/rdQG4Hb0 However when I try sudo unity --debug > unity_start_root.log then ctrl+alt+F8, unity starts and the output of the log is http://pastebin.com/Yv4RD2j7 The fact that it starts as root tells be it is either a permissions issue of some required file or there is some setting that is specific to my user that is causing the SIGSEGV. So to narrow this down I activated the guest account and tried to login and got the same black screens with only a mouse cursor, so this tells me that it is not a configuration issue, but a permissions issue, so how do I narrow down which file has the wrong permissions? Also is there anything further that may help debug this issue? Ok after a few more hours of googling I found that if I add myself to the video group I can login and see the desktop, but there are lots of other permission related issues, so I am thinking something went wonky with PolicyKit during the upgrade, is there a way to reset PolicyKit settings for a user?

• Fortigate - Accessing a Virtual Server address from several interfaces

  I am setting up a new application in its own DMZ on our Fortigate 300C firewalls. I have defined a load-balancing configuration for part of the application, and this works fine for traffic coming in from our internal network. However, I would also like this application to be reachable from other DMZs, for inter-application traffic, and from the SSL VPN interface. I can't seem to define the required policy, and it seems this is due to Virtual Servers being bound to the client interface on the Fortigate rather than the server interface (and so my virtual IP is not accessible from any of these other interfaces) Does anyone have an idea how I might go about this ? I guess I could create other virtual IPs for each interface, but this gets complicated to handle as clients need to change the address they use depending on how they are connecting. Thanks, Jeremy G

I am trying to check some data in the MySQL binary log files, and I get the following error: # mysqlbinlog mysql-bin.000021 mysqlbinlog: unknown option '--ssl' In addition, I can't even view the help for this command: # mysqlbinlog --help mysqlbinlog: unknown option '--ssl' Why does mysqlbinlog not know about the option ssl? This server was compiled with SSL, and ssl is activated in the my.cnf configuration file. We use SSL for remote connections, but I am running this command on the local host.

• Tomcat cookies not working via my ProxyPass VirtualHost

  Hi there. I'm having some issues with getting cookies to work when using a ProxyPass to redirect traffic on port 80 to a web-application hosted via Tomcat. My motivation for enabling cookies is to get rid of the "jsessionid=" parameter that is appended to the URLs. I've enabled cookies in my context.xml in META-INF/ for my web application. When I access the webapplication via http://url:8080/webapp it works as expected, the jsessionid parameter is not visible in the URL, instead it's stored in a cookie. When accessing my website via an apache2 virtualhost the cookies doesn't seem to work because now "jsessionid" is being appended to the URLs. How can I solve this issue?   I have a VPS and a domain name registered with the provider. When I enter www.example.com my site is displayed correctly, but entering example.com does not work. I am able to ping www.example.com. I added the following line to my apache2 default vhosts file: ServerName example.com ServerAlias www.example.com But this did not work. The VPS is a Debian5 OS. Any ideas? Note: There is no option via a provided control panel to add this, it's a basic package I purchased I know this post answers it but there are no extra comments and I'd like to know if it's the best way: way to redirect page to www using virtual host configuration in sites-available for apache2?   I’m using nginx with PHP-FPM (APC is installed). I need PHP’s flush() to work. Is this possible? Things I’ve tried so far: Disabling all output buffering in php.ini, as well as output compression. Disabling gzip in nginx’s configuration. Setting nginx’s fastcgi_* buffering settings and fastcgi_max_temp_file_size to zero. I’m sure I must be missing something, since I’ve run across many posts here and elsewhere where people claimed they’ve got it working, but I’m having no luck, it would seem.

  I have a legacy application that emails via php. 5% of the emails aren't going through. The solution is to route all email through a fancy verified mail server like Amazon's SES. I am having some trouble implementing this functionality. It seems this guy had a similar problem. My question is where in postfix can I set a filter that will take as input the the message headers, so that I can manually set the From field and the Reply-To field to [email protected] and [email protected], respectively. Where whatever_php_wants is dictated by the php program and the users registration email. I know where to set the noreply portion, but I don't know the exact place in postfix's configuration files where I can intercept complete emails and pass them to a script. • USR9108 not connecting to DSL service/not detecting carrier

  As suggested in this answer I've hooked up the phone cable to the USR9108 router. I've entered the information provided by the ISP (VPI/VCI, Username, Password etc) in the ADSL configuration section but the router does not connect to DSL service. The ASDL diagnostics fail in the first step stating that no signal was found. The same phone line when connected to ZyXEL P-660R-T1 v2 modem works successfully. Can anyone tell me how to trouble shoot this issue? Does it have something to do with 2 wire and 4 wire telephone line? PS: whats the difference between ASDL and DSL?

  I'm running an ec2 instance on ubuntu running lamp stack. I configured my httpd.conf file to support wildcard sub-domain but it didn't work. My httpd.conf file NameVirtualHost * <VirtualHost *> DocumentRoot /www/example ServerName example.com ServerAlias *.example.com </VirtualHost> I tried all possible solutions but they didn't work. Finally I used amazon Route-53 to setup a wildcard DNS to redirect all *.example.com to example.com. My question is, Is it okay if I use Route-53 instead of httpd.conf file for wildcard Sub-Domain ? Is there an error in my httpd.conf file ? (Note: I used the same httpd.conf settings with another hosting provider and it worked perfectly there.) • Choosing a very basic Linux distro with minimal boot time?

  I've had Ubuntu for a year now, like it but it doesn't match my needed configuration for my old laptop. So... I am using Linux mainly for webapps so I don't care much about user interface. What I need is a distro which is small enough to install on a SD memory card (or USB) since I am removing the hard drive, all my data is in the cloud. I also want it to have as short boot time as possible. I tried Puppy Linux and it seems ok but it had preinstalled looots af small apps I don't need, I would really like to have a distro with minimal preinstallations and add them on my own. So what are my choices and why would you recommend these?

• IIS7 500 error if form is submitted more than 120 seconds after it was originally loaded

  Summary: When I submit a form (via POST) to php more than 120 seconds after the form was first called I get a 500 server error. If I submit before 120 seconds, the form works fine. I'm obviously encountering some kind of timeout but I don't know where to look. I've enabled failed request tracing and received the following error: ModuleName="FastCgiModule", Notification="EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER", HttpStatus="500", HttpReason="Internal Server Error", HttpSubStatus="0", ErrorCode="The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. (0x800703e3)", ConfigExceptionInfo="" I don't understand why it matters when the form is submitted relative to the time the form is first rendered (note: the actual form processing takes a fraction of a second). Shouldn't these two requests be stateless? Suggestions? Configuration: Windows Vista SP1 IIS7 php 5.2.x under fastCGI This is a development server running on my laptop. All calls to IIS are coming from localhost.

• Can't Remove Logical Drive/Array from HP P400

  This is my first post here. Thank you in advance for any assistance with this matter. I'm trying to remove a logical drive (logical drive 2) and an array (array "B") from my Smart Array P400. The host is a DL580 G5 running 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 (Tikanga). I am unable to remove the array using either hpacucli or cpqacuxe. I believe it is because of "OS Status: LOCKED". The file system that lives on this array has been unmounted. I do not want to reboot the host. Is there some way to "release" this logical drive so I can remove the array? Note that I do not need to preserve the data on logical drive 2. I intend to physically remove the drives from the machine and replace them with larger drives. I'm using the cciss kernel module that ships with Red Hat 5.7.   I've never really understood the custom of stuffing a summary of one's family's activities for the year in a Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa card.  It seems a little self-congratulatory and impersonal.  I'd rather my friends kept authentically in touch throughout the year, but perhaps that's just me.Nonetheless, I see the value of a year-end summary in the IT industry.  I spend a lot of time helping our customers understand the latest new developments... and straightening out confusion over changes to the old and familiar.  It can be hard to keep up with the latest news in this space.Here are the eight most-important news items for 2010, with suggested actions for Apps DBAs:Premier Support for EBS 11.5.10 ended on November 30, 2010You need to be on a minimum baseline of 11.5.10 patches to be eligible for Extended Support.  New patches for EBS 11i released during the Extended Support period will be produced only for the minimum baseline configuration.Action: Ensure that your EBS 11i environments meet the minimum baseline requirements. Minimum Baselines are Emerging for EBS 12.0 Extended SupportExtended Support for EBS 12.0 begins on February 1, 2012.  That's only 13 months away.  Minimum baselines haven't been finalized yet, but the 12.0.6 Release Update Pack and the Financials CPC July 2009 are currently slated.  Action: Ensure that your EBS 12.0 environments meet the currently-specified baseline requirements. Sun, Windows, and Linux users should have upgraded to JDK 6 by nowJDK 5's End of Service Life was October 30, 2009 for those three platforms.  If you're running the E-Business Suite on Sun, Windows, or Linux, you should upgrade your EBS servers to JDK 6.  Alternatively, you can purchase Java for Business support (the equivalent of Extended Support for Java).   Folks, I have followed the instructions here http://tuxnetworks.blogspot.com/2010/06/howto-ldap-server-on-1004-lucid-lynx.html to setup my OpenLdap and its working just fine, except an anonymous user can bind to my server and see the whole user/group structure. LDAP is running over SSL. I have read online that i can add disallow bind_anon and require authc in the slapd.conf file and it will be disabled but there is no slapd.conf file to begin with and since this doesn't use slapd.conf for its configuration as i understand OpenLdap has moved to a cn=config setup so it wont read that file even if i create one. i have looked online without any luck. I believe i need to change something in here olcAccess: to attrs=userPassword by dn="cn=admin,dc=tuxnetworks,dc=com" write by anonymous auth by self write by * none olcAccess: to attrs=shadowLastChange by self write by * read olcAccess: to dn.base="" by * read olcAccess: to * by dn="cn=admin,dc=tuxnetworks,dc=com" write by * read but i am not sure what. • Pivotal Announces JSR-352 Compliance for Spring Batch

  Pivotal, the company currently funding development of the popular Spring Framework, recently announced JSR 352 (aka Batch Applications for the Java Platform) compliance for the Spring Batch project. More specifically, Spring Batch targets JSR-352 Java SE runtime compatibility rather than Java EE runtime compatibility. If you are surprised that APIs included in Java EE can pass TCKs targeted for Java SE, you should not be. Many other Java EE APIs target compatibility in Java SE environments such as JMS and JPA. You can read about Spring Batch's support for JSR-352 here as well as the Spring configuration to get JSR-352 working in Spring (typically a very low level implementation concern intended to be completely transparent to most JSR-352 users). JSR 352 is one of the few very encouraging cases of major active contribution to the Java EE standard from the Spring development team (the other major effort being Rod Johnson's co-leadership of JSR 330 along with Bob Lee). While IBM's Christopher Vignola led the spec and contributed IBM's years of highly mission critical batch processing experience from products like WebSphere Compute Grid and z/OS batch, the Spring team provided major influences to the API in particular for the chunk processing, listeners, splits and operational interfaces. The GlassFish team's own Mahesh Kannan also contributed, in particular by implementing much of the Java EE integration work for the reference implementation. This was an excellent example of multilateral engineering collaboration through the standards process. For many complex reasons it is not too hard to find evidence of less than amicable interaction between the Spring ecosystem and the Java EE standard over the years if one cares to dig deep enough. In reality most developers see Spring and Java EE as two sides of the same server-side Java coin. At the core Spring and Java EE ecosystems have always shared deep undercurrents of common user bases, bi-directional flows of ideas and perhaps genuine if not begrudging mutual respect. We can all hope for continued strength for both ecosystems and graceful high notes of collaboration via efforts like JSR 352.

• sqlcmd won't execute - Claims Native Client not installed properly

  I'm trying to use sqlcmd to execute some SQL scripts. Using a test command with a simple query like: sqlcmd -S HOSTNAME -d MYDATABASE -Q 'SELECT Names FROM Customers' sqlcmd does not appear to make any attempt to connect to the server as it displays this message: Sqlcmd: Error: Connection failure. SQL Native Client is not installed correctly. To correct this, run SQL Server Setup. The native client was presumably installed as part of the SQL Server setup and likely correctly. I actually get this message on any machine with SQL server installed trying to use sqlcmd so it's not a matter of the installation being corrupt. Unfortunately the message really tells me nothing about the problem so I don't know what the real issue is. I know the SQL Native client is working properly since a vbscript was able to execute SQL queries against the database. Is there some additional configuration needed to use sqlcmd?

  I have small website hosted on our WS 2008 R2 server using IIS 7. I can access our website from anywhere in the world using: www.ourwebsite.co.nz But from any local computer on our internal network I can only access the website using: http://ourwebsite.co.nz Our employees are constantly asking why they cant just use www.ourwebsite.co.nz I'm not sure what info to provide. I presume that because the wesbite correctly functions from outside the local network that I have correctly setup our Web DNS A records at our domain host. And the problem may lie with our local DNS configuration.

• How do I get my Nvidia monitor position settings (in Linux) to persist after a restart?

  I have two monitors, and I run them both in Linux using the proprietary Nvidia drivers with "TwinView". I just installed Linux Mint 13, and since the install after every reboot my monitors come up in the wrong position (the computer thinks the left monitor is on the right). After boot-up I can run the Nvidia config and fix the monitors' position, and I can even save the configuration file successfully. But as soon as I restart again, the monitors re-appear switched. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this (and more importantly, how I can solve it?)
