• How do I detect whether the sample supplied by VideoSink.OnSample() is right-side up?

  We're currently using the Silverlight VideoSink to capture video from users' local webcams, kinda like so: protected override void OnSample(long sampleTime, long frameDuration, byte[] sampleData) { if (FrameShouldBeSubmitted()) { byte[] resampledData = ResizeFrame(sampleData); mediaController.SetVideoFrame(resampledData); } } Now, on most of the machines that we've tested, the video sample provided in the byte[] sampleData parameter is upside-down, i.e., if you try to take the RGBA data and turn it into, say, a WriteableBitmap, the bitmap will be upside-down. That's odd, but fairly easy to correct, of course -- you just have to reverse the array as you encode it. The problem is that at least on some machines (e.g., the single Macintosh in our test environment), the video sample provided is no longer upside-down, but right-side up, and hence, flipping the image actually results in an image that's received upside-down on the far side. I reported this to MS as a bug, but their (terse) response was that it was "As Designed". Further attempts at clarification have so far been ignored. Now, I'll grant that it's kinda entertaining to imagine the discussions behind this design decision: "OK, just to make it interesting, let's play the video rightside up on a Mac, but let's turn it upside down for Windows!" "Great idea!" "Yeah, that'll keep those developers guessing!" But beyond that, I can't find this, umm, "feature" documented anywhere, nor can I find any documentation on how one is supposed to be able to tell that a given video sample is upside down or rightside up. Any thoughts on how to tell this?

• Fluent NHibernate - Unable to parse integer as enum.

  I have a column mapped to an enum with a convention set up to map this as an integer to the database. • Error in {% markdown %} filter in Django Nonrel

  I'm having trouble using Markdown in Django Nonrel. I followed this instructions (added 'django.contrib.markup' to INSTALLED_APPS, include {% load markup %} in the template and use |markdown filter after installing python-markdown) but I get the following error: Error in {% markdown %} filter: The Python markdown library isn't installed. In this line: /path/to/project/django/contrib/markup/templatetags/markup.py in markdown they will be silently ignored.   I try to configure log4j.xml in such a way that file will be rolled upon file size, and the rolled file's name will be i.e: "C:/temp/test/test_log4j-%d{yyyy-MM-dd-HH_mm_ss}.log" I followed this discussion: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/NUYyjJipzkDOS3reRiMz Finally it worked for me only when I add: try { Thread.sleep(1); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } to the method: public boolean isTriggeringEvent(Appender appender, LoggingEvent event, String filename, long fileLength) which make it works. The question is if there is a better way to make it work? since this method call many times and slow my program. • Does NSArray:lastObject return an autoreleased object?

  I'm working on an iPhone project where I would like to retrieve an object from an NSMutableArray, remove the object from the array and then use it later. The code looks something like this: NSMutableArray * array; // fill the array NSObject * obj = [array lastObject]; [array removeLastObject]; // do something with obj (in the same function) array is the only entity with a retain on the object that is being accessed. Is this safe to do? I would assume that this would only work if lastObject autoreleased the object which is something that I can't figure out if it does.

PS I do not care which of the 3 it returns mind you, but I need it to only return 3 (or what ever how many DISTINCT fruit there are. ex return would be John,Smith,apple Bill,evans,orange Willma,Jones,grape Thanks in advance I've been banging my head on this all day.

• Excel VBA: importing CSV with dates as dd/mm/yyyy

  ello I understand this is a fairly common problem, but I'm yet to find a reliable solution. I have data in a csv file with the first column formatted dd/mm/yyyy. When I open it with Workbooks.OpenText it defaults to mm/dd/yyyy until it figures out that what it thinks is the month exceeds 12, then reverts to dd/mm/yyyy. This is my test code, which tries to force it as xlDMYFormat, and I've also tried the text format. I understand this problem only applies to *.csv files, not *.txt, but that isn't an acceptable solution.   Hi I want to write a mysql statement which will return a list of results from one table along with a comma separated list of field from another table. I think an example might better explain it Table 1 ======================== id First_Name Surname ---------------------- 1 Joe Bloggs 2 Mike Smith 3 Jane Doe Table 2 ======================== id Person_Id Job_id --------------------- 1 1 1 2 1 2 3 2 2 4 3 3 5 3 4 I want to return a list of people with a comma separated list of job_ids. So my result set would be id First_Name Surname job_id ------------------------------ 1 Joe Bloggs 1,2 2 Mike Smith 2 3 Jane Doe 3,4 I guess the sql would be something like select id, First_Name, Surname, (SELECT job_id FROM Table 2) as job_id from Table 1 but obviously this does not work so need to change the '(SELECT job_id FROM Table 2) as job_id' part.   Is there any way of retrieving an absolute URL for a file on a mounted volume in Cocoa? For example, say afp://server/Documents is mounted at /Volumes/Documents. How can I get full URL to a file on the mounted volume in the form of afp://server/Documents/path/to/file? I've tried using statfs but the value of f_mntfromname doesn't contain a url, it contains the same value that is given by the mount command.

  Hey, I've been trying to get the xWinForms 3.0 library (a library with forms support in xna) working with my C# XNA Game project but I keep getting the same problem.   How can I find out which FORM an HTML element is contained within, using a simple/small bit of JavaScript? In the example below, if I have already got hold of the SPAN called 'message', how can I easily get to the FORM element? <form name="whatever"> <div> <span id="message"></span> </div> </form> The SPAN might be nested within other tables or DIVs, but it seems too long-winded to iterate around .parentElement and work my way up the tree. Is there a simpler and shorter way? If it wasn't a SPAN, but an INPUT element, would that be easier? Do they have a property which points back to the containing FORM? Google says no...

• iPhone OpenGL Splash Screen? How?

  My app is based pretty much on the EAGLView in the SDK. It doesn't incorporate a ViewController. Rather it simply inits GL and starts painting immediately.. Currently, my app will load a very small PNG and displays it as quickly as possible. On a 3GS this is rather instant, but on a 3G it can take about 2 seconds. In the latter case of the 3G, the user is looking at a black screen for that time. Is this behavior allowed by Apple? Is there any way to alter this SDK example so that it makes use of 'default.png'? It doesn't seem so straight forward to me. I want my user to see an image as quickly as possible, and I also don't want to be rejected for such a little quirk like this as well. In the guidelines, they encourage you to use default.png for standard applications to show a sort of mockup of the interface while it actually loads. I want to initialize OpenGL, and ALSO display this. This default.png is loaded before the app screen launches. This is EXACLTY what I want to make use of. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

• How to verify an XML digital signature in Cocoa?

  I have a C# application that uses XML digital signatures to sign license files. I've used the standard Microsoft approach described here. I'm porting the application to the MAC and need to verify the signature. My general question is how best to do this? This is what I've done: I've used macport to install Aleksey's xmlsec1 library. Used the Chilkat library to convert my XML public key to a PEM file Chilkat.PublicKey pubKey = new Chilkat.PublicKey(); pubKey.LoadXml(publicKeyXml); pubKey.SaveOpenSslPemFile("publicKey.pem"); Compiled and ran the alekseys sample program. See (http://www.aleksey.com/xmlsec/api/xmlsec-verify-with-key.html) to verify an XML dsig. Result: my license files fail to validate. The call to xmlSecDSigCtxVerify fails with status=unknown.   I cannot for the life of me figure out why I'm getting a NullPointerException. • Android NDK Question

  The NDK does not contain very many shared libraries for you to access. As a result, I must build many sources myself and link them into my shared library via static/shared libraries. I want to compile libpng as a Static Library. Trouble is, I have absolutely no idea how, nor does google instruct you how to do so in their NDK. I'm no expert on the NDK even after reading everything I can find, so I would really appreciate someone who actually knows how this is done. I do have the Android.mk file for libpng, as google's Android OS source contains it. Infact, I got the entire directory on the android OS source for libpng and it's dependent libraries. It was somewhat of a shortcut instead of making one myself. I don't know how to make a particular directory which contains this file, though. Thanks for reading!

• Fuzzy Search on Material Descriptions including numerical sizes & general descriptions of material t

  We're looking to provide a fuzzy search on an electrical materials database (i.e. conduit, cable, etc.). The problem is that, because of a lack of consistency across all material types, we could not split sizes into separate fields from the text description because some materials are rated by things other than size. I've attempted a combination of a full text search & a SQL CLR implementation of the Levenshtein search algorithm (for assistance in ranking), but my results are a little funky (i.e. they are not sorting correctly due to improper ranking). For example, if the search term is "3/4" ABCD Conduit", I'll might get back several irrelevant results in the following order: 1/2" Conduit 1/4" X 3/4" Cable 1/4" Cable Ties 3/4" DFC Conduit Tees 3/4" ABCD Conduit 3/4" Conduit I believe I've nailed the problem down to the fact that these two search algorithms do not factor in the relevance of punctuation & numeric. That is, in such a search, I'd expect the size to take precedence over any fuzzy match on the rest of the description, but my results don't reflect that. My question is: Can anyone recommend better search algorithms or different approaches that may be better suited for searching a combination of alphanumerics & punctuation characters?

• how to display a dialog if user can't download file

  hi. dealing with php/html/javascript. i'm trying to figure out a good/best approach to allowing a user to download a file. i can have the traditional href link, that interfaces with the back end php app to download the file. however, i want to have the app display some sort of dialog/alert if the user isn't able (basedon acl/permissions) to download the file... does this have to ba an ajax thing, as i don't want to do a page refresh... thoughts/comments/pointers to code samples are appreciated. thanks. -tom

• Mercurial "hg clone" on Windows via ssh with plink issue

  I have a Windows Server 2008 machine (iis7) that has CopSSH set up on it. To connect to it, I have a Windows 7 machine with Mercurial 1.5.1 (and TortoiseHg) installed. I can connect to the server using PuTTY with a non-standard ssh port and a .ppk file just fine. So I know the server can be SSH'd into. Next, I wanted to use the CLI to connect via hg clone to get a private repo. I've seen elsewhere that you need to have ssh configured in your mercurial.ini file, so my mercurial.ini has a line: ssh = plink.exe -ssh -C -l username -P #### -i "C:/Program Files/PuTTY/Key Files/KyleKey.ppk" Note: username is filled in with the username I set up via copSSH. #### is filled in with the non-standard ssh port I've defined for copSSH. I try to do the command hg clone ssh://inthom.com but I get this error: remote: bash: inthom.com: command not found abort: no suitable response from remote hg! It looks like hg or plink parses the hostname such that it thinks that inthom.com is a command instead of the server to ssh to. That's really odd. Next, I tried to just use plink to connect by plink -P #### ssh://inthom.com, and I am then prompted for my username, and next password. I enter them both and then I get this error: bash: ssh://inthom.com: No such file or directory So now it looks like plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly. I fiddled around for a while trying to figure out how to do call hg clone with an empty ssh:// field and eventually figured out that this command allows me to reach the server and clone a test repo on the inthom.com server: hg clone ssh://!/Repos/test ! is the character I've found that let's me leave the hostname blank, but specify the repo folder to clone. What I really don't understand is how plink knows what server to ssh to at all. neither my mercurial.ini nor the command specify a server. None of the hg clone examples I've seen have a ! character. They all use an address, which makes sense, so you can connect to any repo via ssh that you want to clone. My only guess is that it somehow defaults to the last server I used PuTTY to SSH to, but I SSH'd into another server, and then tried to use plink to get to it, but plink still defaults to inthom.com (verified with the -v arg to plink). So I am at a loss as to how plink gets this server value at all. For "fun", I tried using TortoiseHg and can only clone a repo when I use ssh://!/Repos/test as the Source. Now, you can see that, since plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly, I had to specify the port number and username in the mercurial.ini file, instead of in the hostname like [email protected]:#### like you'd expect to. Trying to figure this out at first drove me insane, because I would get errors that the host couldn't be reached, which I knew shouldn't be the case. My question is how can I configure my setup so that ssh://[email protected]:####/Repos/test is parsed correctly as the username, hostname, port number, and repo to copy? Is it something wrong with the version of plink that I'm using, or is there some setting I may have messed up? If it is plink's fault, is there an alternative tool I can use? I'm going to try to get my friend set up to connect to this same repo, so I'd like to have a clean solution instead of this ! business. Especially when I have no idea how plink gets this default server, so I'm not sure if he'd even be able to get to inthom.com correctly. PS. I've had to use a ton of different tutorials to even get to this stage. Therefore, I haven't tried pushing any changes to the server yet. Hopefully I'll get this figured out and then I can try pushing changes to the repo.

• mysql - select pagination chunk that includes a given id

  ...before the pagination chunks have been determined. I know you can do this in multiple statements, but there must be a better way. my results are returned ordered by date and I want to return the pagination chunk that contains a given id. So I could, for example, select the date of the given id and then select a chunk of results where date is less than or greater than the date. That would work. But is there some native mysql method of doing this sort of thing in one statement? It just seems reasonable to expect that we could ask for X results in which a given id exists if results are ordered by date.

• asp.net Membership : Extending Role membership?

  Hi there, I am been taking a look at asp.net membership and it seems to provide everything that i need but i need some kind of custom Role functionality. Currently i can add user to a role, great. But i also need to be able to add Permissions to Roles.. i.e. Role: Editor Permissions: Can View Editor Menu, Can Write to Editors Table, Can Delete Entries in Editors Table. Currently it doesn't support this, The idea behind this is to create a admin option in my program to create a role and then assign permissions to a role to say "allow the user to view a certain part of the application", "allow the user to open a menu item" Any ideas how i would implement soemthing like this? I presume a custom ROLE provider but i was wondering if some kind of framework extension existed already without rolling my own? Or anybody knows a good tutorial of how to tackle this issue? I am quite happy with what asp.net SQL provider has created in terms of tables etc... but i think i need to extend this by adding another table called RolesPermissions and then I presume :-) adding some kind of enumeration into the table for each valid permission?? THanks in advance
