  • Tool to highlight and annotate text on websites?

    - by doug
When I read something I need to underscore what I like, or what I think is important, and to take notices about that read, near on that current paragraph. So, does anyone know a Firefox add-on or something else (another browser, any other application) which can provide me such a functionality? ps: I've tried some research tools as Zotero, but it is not what I'm looking for.

The extension is .AC3 and it opens an plays in QuickTime, VLC etc. What I want is each individual channel in a separate file, but I can't seem to find any tools that will allow be to do that. • Which tool do you use for your to-do list?

  • Run verilog on Mac

    - by Gabe
I need to simulate verilog on my Macbook Pro for school. I've tried downloading, configuring, and installing icarus and veriwell. The make test works for icarus, but not for veriwell, neither of them are recognized by the terminal. The command I'm using is: iverilog hello.vl and veriwell hello.vl Terminal claims that neither of these commands exist... I'm very new at configuring tools with the terminal, but I think the issue is just USING the program afterwards. Any ideas?

  • Rule "Restart computer" failed when installing SQL Server 2008

    - by J. Pablo Fernández
When trying to install SQL Server 2008 Developer and Enterprise editions on a Windows 7 box I've got this message: Rule "Restart computer" failed. A computer restart is required. You must restart this computer before installing SQL Server. Of course I already restarted 10 times. I've found a post in a forum saying that I should clear HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations but I don't have such a key.

  • SQL Server Management Studio unable to connect to local instance.

    - by Ben Collins
I'm not a DBA, I'm a developer - and I'm having trouble with SQL Server Management studio. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard on Windows 2008 Server R2, and according to Sql Server Configuration Manager, I've got two instances: OFFICESERVERS (for sharepoint) and MSSQLSERVER. When I open SQL Server Management Studio I can only discover OFFICESERVERS. I've checked the protocol configuration for both instances and didn't see anything that indicates to me why this would be. Any hints?

  • methods for preventing large scale data scraping from REST api

    - by Simon Kenyon Shepard
I know the immediate answer to this is going to be there is no 100% reliable method of doing this. But I'd like to create a question that details the different possibilities, the difficulty of implementing them and success rates. I would like to go from simple software ip/request speed analysis to high end sophisticated soft/hardware tools, e.g. neural networks. With a goal of predicting and preventing bogus requests and attempts to scrape the service. Many Thanks.

  • Evaluate cron expression

    - by Jake A. Smith
Is there a command line tool that will simply evaluate a cron expression and return a bool response if it is supposed to be running right now? I'm looking for something I can use as a utility in another bash script. Something like so: run_script=$(/tools/evaluate-cron-expression "02 4 * * *") if [ "$run_script" -eq "1" ] # etc etc I know, I know, I could just setup a real cron job, but I'm playing with the idea of wrapping all of my scheduled scripts inside of another script.

  • Wirelss card not being detected in backtrack 5

    - by Jesse Nelson
I just installed backtrack 5 and I am unable to detect my wireless card. iwconfig doesn't list my interface. I can see that the hardware is present in lspci -vnn (see below) but I can't get the interface detected. I have tried to reinstall the compat-wireless package but I get errors during the build (see below) I have done a ton of researching and I keep hitting a brick wall, mostly because the wiki for backtrack is down and I can't find any good resources. Does anyone know how to fix the issue? Also, does anyone no how I can scan the hardware to determine what NIC is assigning my interface? If I can figure out the interface name I think I can set it up manually by putting up the link and using wireless-tools to manually configure the connection, this is what I had to do in arch on my mac. As stated the wiki for backtrack is down and I can't find any help on the issue. I tried to do the full kernel upgrade suggested in my software update but after the update was complete and I logged back in I had a new log in manager and the only thing I was able to log into was window managers. However, after this update my wireless was working fine. Please help I am new to Linux and the wiki is down, I have nowhere else to turn. Forgot to mention I am using the KDE version, not Gnome. Thanks in advance for any help or support. • Latency in TCP/IP-over-Ethernet networks

    - by aix
What resources (books, Web pages etc) exist out there that: explain the causes of latency in TCP/IP-over-Ethernet networks; mention tools for looking out for things that cause latency (e.g. certain entries in netstat -s); suggest ways to tweak the Linux TCP stack to reduce TCP latency (Nagle, socket buffers etc). The closest I am aware of is this document, but it's rather brief. Alternatively, you're welcome to answer the above questions directly.

  • Does GoogleBot respect User-agent: *

    - by rkulla
I blocked a page in robots.txt under User-agent: *, and tried to do a manual removal of that URL from Google's cache in the webmasters tools. Google said it wasn't being blocked in my robots.txt, so I then blocked it specifically under User-agent: GoogleBot and tried removing it again and this time it worked. Does that mean Google doesn't respect User-agent: * or what?

  • How to set default file format for MS Paint

    - by torbengb
I'm using MS Paint on WinXP at work, for capturing simple screenshots. Problem: MS Paint always wants to save in BMP format. How can I set PNG to be Paint's default file-saving format? Note: Suggestions about other software are irrelevant. I know there are many other software tools available. But I'm asking specifically about MS Paint.

  • What software to use to keep important files mirrored on several PCs / Mac?

    - by Jian Lin
There are sometimes important files that we don't want to lose and be able to access it on all different PCs and Macs at home. If they are text files for constant editing, then the Source Code Versioning Systems such as CVS, Subversion, Git, Mercurial should be good tools for mirroring the files and keeping the revisions. But what if the file are PDF, mp3, .doc, .xls, .avi -- binary type of files instead of ASCII text files. In this case, what is a good method / software for achieving this purpose?

  • Recovering files using Recuva

    - by Nev Meek
I'm currently using Recuva to recover some files from an external NTFS disk. It finds the files I'm interested in during it's analysis phase (when tools like test-disk fail to find them at all) and reports them as "Not-deleted" and a big green marker to signify 100% chance of recovery. However when it tries to recover the files I get a "the system could not find the file specified" message. Is there any easy way to recover non-deleted files off of a disc that I can no longer simply access through explorer?

  • What is a quick way to report login/logout times on Windows 2003?

    - by blueberryfields
I have about a dozen servers, and I am looking to quickly find out all of the login/logout times, for a subset of users, for all servers, during January. Is there a quick, easy way to get this information (faster and easier than manually combing through the security logs)? I would rather not replicate any work - are there any publicly posted tools or scripts that already implement a solution to this problem?

  • shorter URLs for locally hosted files

    - by Ashwini
I have seen in many developer talks, the presenter using a demo.local URL instead of the conventional localhost/demo for faster access. I've read about editing host entries over here How can I create shorter URLs to sites on my computer? but my question is since the localhost IP is the same 127.0.0.1 for every folder inside my var/www or htdocs then how to make it accessible in the shorter format?
