I am trying to print barcodes for a library. I have generated a list of sequential numbers and copied them into Word 2003.
I want Library name, barcode font, barcode number printed in an Avery 5160 label sheet.
I can get it to work by going to tools, letters and mailing, Envelopes and Labels, labels tab and type in what data I want. I don't see how I can pull this data from the list in the word document rather than just what I type.
Hi there,
I just stumbled across this Airfoil on Mac OS X, which lets me 'throw' music from my laptop to any other linux machine, iPhone or other device hooked up to a better set of speakers than my laptop - here's the page below:
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
What tools would I use to recreate this functionality on a linux box - are there any nice GUI interfaces to something like pulse audio (which is what I imagine I'd use ) for doing this?
Thanks
I've accidentally performed a quick format on the mobile hard disk thinking that the data is useless. Now my mum says that she needs them back.
What are the tools that I could use to recover the data?
hi there
When i read something I need to underscore what i like, or what i think is important, and to take notices about that read, near on that current paragraph.
Soo, does anyone know a firefox addon or something else(other browser, any other application) which can provide me such a functionality?
ps: I've tried some research tools as zotero, but it is not what I'm looking for.
I am trying to work with a legacy application in SQL Server which at some point does the following query
SELECT serverproperty('EngineEdition') as sqledition
The server replies with 2 (which is the correct edition), but the application closes since the app demands to be run over SQL Server Express which is 4. We don't have access to the code and the developer is long gone.
Is there a way to configure SQL Server so that when this query is received it simply returns 4 and not the value of the property?
Thanks
Hi
I want to use Yahoo's compressor for compressing js and css files.
Which can be found here:
http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/compressor/
My only problem is that i have never used Java before. I have no idea how to execute or use this command line. I only have experience with js, jquery and php.
It simply says:
Usage:
java -jar yuicompressor-x.y.z.jar [options] [input file]
How should I proceed?
So all the tutorials and documentation for the Linux quota system has left me confused. For each filesystem with quotas enabled/on where is the actual quota information stored? Is it filesystem metadata or is it in a file?
Say user foo creates a new file on /home. How does the kernel determine whether user foo is below their hard limit? Does the kernel have to tally up quota information on that filesystem each time or is it in the superblock or somewhere else?
As far as I understand, the kernel consults the aquota.user file for the actual rules, but where is the current quota usage data stored? Can this be viewed with any tools outside repquota and the like? TIA!!
Update:
Thanks for the help. I had already read that mini-HOWTO. I am pretty clear on the usage of the user space tools. What I was unclear on is whether the usage data was ALSO in the file that stored per-user limits and you answered this with a yes.
From what I can tell, rc.sysinit runs quotacheck and quotaon on startup. The quotacheck program analyzes the filesystem, updates the aquota.* files. It then makes use of quota.h and the quotactl() syscall to inform the kernel of quota info.
From this point forward the kernel hashes that information and increments/decrements quota stats as changes occur. Upon shutdown, the init.d/halt script runs the quotaoff command RIGHT before the filesystems are unmounted. The quotaoff command does not appear to update the aquota.* files with the information the kernel has in memory. I say this because the {a,c,m}times for the aquota.user file are only updated upon a reboot of the system or by manual running the quotacheck command. It appears - as far as I can tell - that the kernel just drops it's up-to-date usage data on the floor at shutdown. This information is never used to update the aquota.* files. They are updated during startup by quotacheck(rc.sysinit). Seems silly to me since that updated info had already been collected by the kernel. So...in conclusion I am still not entirely clear on the methods. ;)
It seems that most other filesystems handle the basic *nix permissions (ugo±rwx), with maybe an addition here or there. Or can be "made" to handle ACLs through the use of other tools on top of the system.
On the wikipedia pages about filesystems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List%5Fof%5Ffile%5Fsystems &
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison%5Fof%5Ffile%5Fsystems), it appears that while some do support extended meta-data, none support natively the level of permissioning that NTFS does.
Am I wrong in this understanding?
I am running mac 10.6.4 on an iMac and am using it as a developer server.
I have Apache and Entropy php5 installed, when i write my applications, some pages wont run when php has errors, however these are not recorded on a log file, I created one php_errors.log and entered the following on the php.ini file
error_log = /usr/local/php5/logs/php_errors.log
However errors are not written to this file and i have

What could be the problem
Many tools raise a common Windows XP file chooser dialog. This dialog offers various views: Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List, Details.
By default, I always get the List view, however, I almost always want the Details view.
Is there a way to make Details the default view for this dialog across all my applications?
This may not be a proper SU question, but here it goes.
I want to search for some info about Blogspot (tools and such) but if I search for "blogspot" it get results from "SomeBlog".blogspot.com.
Is there a way to search on Google so that it does not include the URL as part of the searh?
I use Diigo, but I'm looking for alternatives to it. The main feature I need (that most don't have) is the ability to search on the full page text. Diigo does this, but I was hoping there might be others out there to choose from too. If you know of one, I'd even consider locally installed programs that have this ability, but I do prefer web-based tools for this.
I have a CentOS "development / testing" server that runs extremely slowly. It's running Apache and Mysql using PHP. Top reports that 98% of the CPU utilization is frequently spent on "st" - Steal Time. What could cause a server to spend so much CPU on steal time, and how can I diagnose the problem? I didn't notice the problem until after I granted a third party developer root access (for all I know it has a root kit running, though unlikely).
One of our in-house applications has a SQLCLR assembly which is currently experiencing problems. The developer is having problems recreating the issue using the version that is stored in our source control system, so he suspects that some code may have been released that was not uploaded to source control. Is there a way to extract a SQLCLR assembly into a .dll file so that he can reverse engineer it for analysis?
Are there any web search tools that help with statistical research, like correlation?
For instance, if I wanted to see the union of bloggers who drink (or talk about) tea/coffee with the bloggers who experience (or talk about) various diseases?

Are there any tools for (in order of preference) Mac, Linux, or Windows to extract images per layer set from a PSD file, without using Photoshop? I had a web designer send me a PSD file containing multiple pages, and each page is apparently in a layer set, and GIMP cannot handle these--it can't understand layer groupings.
a command line tool, a rinky-dink Windows tool...anything will work, so long as it's free (preferable) or under $30, does not leave watermarks or anything of the sort, and works well.
How can I make a bootable backup of my Mac's internal hard drive to be restored using Disk Utility, without formatting my external destination drive as HFS+ (it's FAT32, of course)? Time Machine and SuperDuper both require that the volume where the backup is saved be HFS+ formatted.
This looks helpful:
http://developer.apple.com/macosx/backuponmacosx.html
But it doesn't explain how to use FAT32 disk.
The "spoon-feeding problem", as it was recently explained to me, happens when connections to your application server are tied up feeding data across slow network connections to your clients. This makes sense to me and now I understand the importance of putting a highly-concurrent proxy in front of my app servers.
My question is, how did the first person to recognize this problem figure it out? What *nix tools and troubleshooting techniques would help me to recognize this problem if I hadn't had it explained to me?
Hi,
I'm working in a software development team using svn. Since many developer's computers are working using windows, text file codification has to be agreed with everyone. I decided to use Linux, and probably I will have to change my machine's default character codification. How can this be done in Linux?
Thanks
Hi,
My web server container is Tomcat 6.0.14
JVM 1.6.0_17-b04
BlazeDS 3.2.0.3978
Im sending request from the same local machine via AMF to BlazeDS server and only first request takes about 10secend to proceed. Each next request is preceeding correctly (very fast, less than 0.5s). Anyone know what's the reason of soo slow responsing?
I'm a developer, not administrator so please be patient :)
