    - by dominic
Hi I am having a problem debugging an issue on a website. Everything works locally, the local and server databases are the same The strange thing about the error is that it points to my local dev machine in the error stack. Is that crazy or what, The files are published and being hosted on a server machine and the error is pointing to a line of code on my local dev box. I feel like I am losing the plot. Can someone pls help be clear the air here because this is very weird Error in '/' Application. Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. • ASP.NET MVC pass information from controller to view WITHOUT ViewData, ViewModel, or Session

    - by josh
I have a unique scenario where I want a base controller to grab some data and store it in a list. The list should be accessible from my views just as ViewData is. I will be using this list on every page and would like a cleaner solution than just shoving it in the ViewDataDictionary. After attempting to come up with a solution, I thought I would create a custom ViewPage with a property to hold my list. My custom ViewPage would inherit from System.Web.MVC.ViewPage. However, I do not know where MVC passes the viewdata from the controller off to the view. More importantly, how do I get it to pass my list down to the view? Thanks for the help.

  • Generic data input form in asp.net mvc application

    - by Diego
Hello, I have an application that have EF 16 classes that share this information: They all are classes only with a key field and a description. I think it should be a waste if I make a controller with just 1 method just to present a form to fill these classes info, then I was thinking in to make a generic form(with key, description) and dynamically fill the right class through a sort of selection the selected info in any way, any good suggestion or pattern to do that? Where the generic methods should be located.

  • NHibernate session management in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Kevin Pang
I am currently playing around with the HybridSessionBuilder class found on Jeffrey Palermo's blog post: http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/use-this-nhibernate-wrapper-to-keep-your-repository-classes-simple/ Using this class, my repository looks like this: public class UserRepository : IUserRepository { private readonly ISessionBuilder _sessionBuilder; public UserRepository(ISessionBuilder sessionBuilder) { _sessionBuilder = sessionBuilder; } public User GetByID(string userID) { using (ISession session = _sessionBuilder.GetSession()) { return session.Get<User>(userID); } } } Is this the best way to go about managing the NHibernate session / factory? I've heard things about Unit of Work and creating a session per web request and flushing it at the end. From what I can tell, my current implementation isn't doing any of this. It is basically relying on the Repository to grab the session from the session factory and use it to run the queries. Are there any pitfalls to doing database access this way?

  • Setting current culture with threads in ASP.NET MVC

    - by mare
Here's an example of SetCulture attribute which inside does something like this: public void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext) { string cultureCode = SetCurrentLanguage(filterContext); if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(cultureCode)) return; HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies.Add( new HttpCookie("Culture", cultureCode) { HttpOnly = true, Expires = DateTime.Now.AddYears(100) } ); filterContext.HttpContext.Session["Culture"] = cultureCode; CultureInfo culture = new CultureInfo(cultureCode); System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = culture; System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = culture; } I was wondering how does this affect a site with multiple users logged on and each one setting their own culture? What is the scope of a thread here with regards to the IIS worker process (w3wp) that the site is running in?

  • How do I 'donut cache' in ASP.NET MVC for something more than a date

    - by Simon_Weaver
All the examples for donut caching I've seen are just like this : <%= Html.Substitute( c => DateTime.Now.ToString() )%> Thats fine if I just want the date, but what other options are there? I know there is a delegate 'MvcSubstitutionCallback' which has the following signature : public delegate string MvcSubstitutionCallback(HttpContextBase httpContext); but RenderAction and RenderPartial returns void so i cant just return them from the delegate method. How can I effectively use this callback for more complex situations. I've looked at both of Phil Haacked's articles here and here, but neither seems to do exactly what I want.

  • ASP.NET Dynamic Data Browser Compatibility

    - by Petras
Could any experienced users of Dynamic Data comment on whether there are issues with it in: Internet Explorer 6 Safari Chrome Opera We are looking to use it on a public facing website and good old IE6 has many important users in government departments and large companies so it has to work there. The other browsers could also become an issue.

  • ASP.NET MVC2 and Browser Caching

    - by Dan
    Hi I have a web application that fetches a lot of content via ajax. For example when a user edits some data, the browser will send the changes using an ajax post and then do an ajax get to get fresh content and replace an existing div on the page with that content. This was working just find with MVC1, but in MVC2 I would get inconsistent results. I've found that MVC1 by default included an Expires item in the response headers set to the current time, but in MVC2 the Expires header is missing. This is a problem with some browsers (IE8) actually using the cached version of the ajax get instead of the fresh version. To deal with the problem I created a simple ActionFilterAttribute that sets the reponse cache to NoCache (see below), which works, but it seems kind of sillly to decorate every controller with this attribute. Is there a global way to set this for every controller? Is this a bug in MVC2 and it really should be setting the expires on every ActionResult/view/page? Don't most MVC programs deal with data entry where stale data is a very bad thing? Thanks Dan public class ResponseNoCachingAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute { public override void OnResultExecuted(ResultExecutedContext filterContext) { base.OnResultExecuted(filterContext); filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(System.Web.HttpCacheability.NoCache); } }

  • ASP.NET catching controls from html generated from the database

    - by Drahcir
I have a set of websites that basically do the exact same thing in terms of functionality, the only thing that varies is the css and how the html is laid out. Is there a way to generate the html from a database (ie retreiving the html from a table) and then catching the controls (like buttons, textboxes etc) from the code behind? UPDATE: Here is an example of what I want to acheive: <html> <div id="generatedContent" runat="server"> <!-- the following content has been generated from the database on the page load event --> <div> This is a textbox <input id="tb1" runat="server" type="text" /> This is a button <input type="submit" id="btn1" runat="server" value="My Button" /> </div> </div> </html> This is the code behind var tb1 = new HtmlControls.HtmlInputText(); tb1 = FindControl("tb1"); var btn1 = new New HtmlControls.HtmlInputSubmit(); btn1 = FindControl("btn1"); Now obviously since the html has been generated from the database (ie after the page has already been initialised) the FindControl method will return null.

  • [ASP.NET] IIS7 downloading file length

    - by GTD
I've following code for file download: FileInfo fileInfo = new FileInfo(filePath); context.Response.Clear(); context.Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"; context.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + System.IO.Path.GetFileName(filePath)); context.Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fileInfo.Length.ToString()); context.Response.WriteFile(filePath); context.Response.End(); When I run it on my local IIS6 it works fine. Web browser (tested on IE8, Firefox 3.5.2, Opera 10) shows file length before I start download the file. When I run this code on remote IIS7, web browser doesn't shows file length. File length is unknown. Why I don't get file length when this code runs under IIS7?

    - by user3519124

It has number of functions, and I understand only few of them, like with connecting to the database or creating a command object but there are 2 that I dont understand: public static DataTable GetTable(string str) { OleDbConnection con = DAL.GetConnection(); OleDbCommand cmd = DAL.GetCommand(con, str); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); OleDbDataAdapter adp = new OleDbDataAdapter(); adp.SelectCommand = cmd; adp.Fill(dt); return dt; } public static int ExecuteNonQuery(string str) { int num = -1; OleDbConnection con = DAL.GetConnection(); con.Open(); if (con.State == ConnectionState.Open) { OleDbCommand cmd = DAL.GetCommand(con, str); num = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); con.Close(); } return num; } thank you :)

  • Asp Dot Net : IHttpModule + m_context.Server.Transfer = session state error

    - by tinky05
I have an IHttpModule that implements IRequiresSessionState. The session state is at "on" on the page directive and I also added it to the web.config. In the method "OnBeginRequest" in the IHttpModule, I make a Server.Transfer but I get the error : Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. When I access the page directly or with a Response.Redirect, there is no error. Any idea?

  • Splitting a string in ASP Classic

    - by Sam
So here's my string: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam elit lacus, dignissim quis laoreet non, cursus id eros. Etiam lacinia tortor vel purus eleifend accumsan. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Quisque bibendum vestibulum nisl vitae volutpat. I need to split it every 100 characters (full words only) until all the characters are used up. So we'd end up with: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam elit lacus, dignissim quis laoreet non, and cursus id eros. Etiam lacinia tortor vel purus eleifend accumsan. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique and senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Quisque bibendum vestibulum nisl vitae volutpat. Any ideas on the best way to do that?

  • Asp.Net MVC best way to update cached table

    - by Eddy Mishiyev
There are certain tables that get called often but updated rarely. One of these tables is Departments. So to save DB trips, I think it is ok to cache this table taking into consideration that the table has very small size. However, once you cached it an issue of keeping the table data fresh occurs. So what is the best way to determine that the table is dirty and therefore requires a reload and how that code should be invoked. I look for solution that will be scalable. So updating the cache right after inserting will not work. So if one machine inserted the record all other on network should get notified to reload the cache. I was thinking for calling corresponding web service from T-SQL but don't really like the idea of consuming recourses on sql server. So what are the best practices to resolve this type of problems. Thanks in advance Eddy
