  I think in nmake if I do this: example : set value=77 echo %%value%% The result will display 77 on the console. Is there a way for me to invoke a .cmd or .bat file that will affect the environment of the nmake.exe process? Suppose I put the statement set value=77 in a file called "setvalue.cmd". Then change the makefile to this: example : setvalue echo %%value%% I get: %value% Alternatively, if there's a way to set a macro within a command block, that would also work. Or, a way to set the value of a macro from a batch file, even outside a command block.

• Running same powershell script multiple asynchronous times with separate runspace

  Hi, I have a powershell script which is called by a batch script which is called by Trap Receiver (which also passes environment variables) (running on windows 2008). The traps are flushed out at times in sets of 2-4 trap events, and the batch script will echo the trap details for each message to a logfile, but the powershell script on the next line of the batch script will only appear to process the first trap message (the powershell script writes to the same logfile). My interpetation is that the defaultrunspace is common to all iterations of the script running and this is why the others appear to be ignored. I've tried adding "-sta" when I invoke the powershell script using "powershell.exe -command", but this didn't help. I've researched and found a method using C# but I don't know this language, and busy enough learning powershell, so hoping to find a more direct solution especially as interleaving a "wrapper" between batch and powershell will involve passing the environment variables. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/threads/AsyncPowerShell.aspx I've hunted through stackoverflow, and again the only question of similar vein was using C#. Any suggestions welcome. Some script background: The powershell script is actually a modification of a great script found at gregorystrike website - cant post the link as I'm limited to one link but its the one for Lefthand arrays. Lots of mods so it can do multiple targets from one .ini file, taking in the environment variables, and options to run portions of the script interactively with winform. But you can see the gist of the original script. The batch script is pretty basic.   I am using Entity Framework 5 code first and ASP.NET MVC 3. I am struggling to get a child object's child object to populate. Below are my classes.. How do I specify that each child object must include the ChildRelationshipType object like what I did above?

• Can I spead out a long running stored proc accross multiple CPU's?

( Credit cards in this case. ) Most of the time, the performance is tolerable, but there are a couple customers where the process is painfully slow, taking literally 1 minute to complete. ( Well, 59377ms to return from SQL Server to be exact, but it can vary by a few hundred ms based on load ) When I watch the process, I see that SQL is only using a single proc to perform the whole process, and typically only proc 0. Is there a way I can change my stored proc so that SQL can multi-thread the process? Is it even feasible to cheat and to break the calls in half, ( top 50%, bottom 50% ), and spread the load, as a gross hack? This used to work perfectly fine, because I was running Visual Studio 2008. However, one of my developers use C# Express Edition and they need to do a similar thing. I especially like the usage of yield and and the way that sets are treated as first class citizens. However, there in lies my problem. What would be the best way to: 1.Duplicate the functionality of the yield return construct in Java? Would it instead be best to maintain a list and append my partial results to this list? How would you handle the yield keyword. 2.Handle the dealing with the sets? I know that I could probably use one of the Java collections which implements that implements the Set interface and then using things like removeAll() to give me a set difference. Is this what you would do in that case? Ultimately, I'm looking to reduce this method into as concise and straightforward way as possible in Java. I'm thinking the return type of the java version of this method will likely return a list of int arrays or something similar. How would you handle the situations above when converting this method into Java?

The very first question is one I have seen before, typically called the Peaks and Flags question. If you are not familiar A non-empty zero-indexed array A consisting of N integers is given. A peak is an array element which is larger than its neighbours. More precisely, it is an index P such that 0 < P < N - 1 and A[P - 1] < A[P] A[P + 1] . For example, the following array A: A[0] = 1 A[1] = 5 A[2] = 3 A[3] = 4 A[4] = 3 A[5] = 4 A[6] = 1 A[7] = 2 A[8] = 3 A[9] = 4 A[10] = 6 A[11] = 2 has exactly four peaks: elements 1, 3, 5 and 10. You are going on a trip to a range of mountains whose relative heights are represented by array A. You have to choose how many flags you should take with you. The goal is to set the maximum number of flags on the peaks, according to certain rules. Flags can only be set on peaks. What's more, if you take K flags, then the distance between any two flags should be greater than or equal to K. The distance between indices P and Q is the absolute value |P - Q|. For example, given the mountain range represented by array A, above, with N = 12, if you take: two flags, you can set them on peaks 1 and 5; three flags, you can set them on peaks 1, 5 and 10; four flags, you can set only three flags, on peaks 1, 5 and 10. You can therefore set a maximum of three flags in this case. Write a function that, given a non-empty zero-indexed array A of N integers, returns the maximum number of flags that can be set on the peaks of the array. For example, given the array above the function should return 3, as explained above. Assume that: N is an integer within the range [1..100,000]; each element of array A is an integer within the range [0..1,000,000,000]. Complexity: expected worst-case time complexity is O(N); expected worst-case space complexity is O(N), beyond input storage (not counting the storage required for input arguments). Elements of input arrays can be modified. Obviously my assumption is that the beginning or end of an Array can be a peak, is this not the case?   I use xterm and set its appearance in ~/.Xdefaults: XTerm*background: paleTurquoise XTerm*foreground: black I also use emacs, but set its appearance differently in ~/.emacs: (set-background-color "black") (set-foreground-color "yellow") I usually run emacs within the terminal console with emacs -nw, rather than creating a separate X window. For some reason, this doesn't work properly for emacs23; instead, emacs retains the pale turquoise background of my xterm window. Looking at what's new in emacs23, I noted that: ** When running in a new enough xterm (newer than version 242), Emacs asks xterm what the background color is and it sets up faces accordingly for a dark background if needed (the current default is to consider the background light). So it's a feature, not a bug? Anyway, is there some way that I can I tell emacs23 to ignore the xterm background settings when running in console mode, and use the settings in ~/.emacs instead? I'll also note that: Running M-x set-background-color within emacs23 -nw has no effect. It works fine in emacs23 running in a separate X window (without the -nw option). It worked fine in emacs22; and I'm not really sure whether I need to use emacs23... It's not just xterm: the same problem exists with $TERM=cygwin, for example.

  I have a table with a column using utf8_unicode_ci character set. This table stores Japanese data and my problem is that using this character set, I'm not able to store the same word written in katakana and hiragana because it's considered to be the same word. For example ??? and ???, which mean I, me. I know that I can change the character set to utf8_general_ci to resolve this problem but is it possible to bypass this limitation ? I mean, keep utf8_unicode_ci character set and make those two words be inserted? Is it possible to make this work using CONVERT or CAST operators? Thanks.

  I need recommendations on how to solve / structure a solution to the following problem. In an asp.net web application i'll have to visualise results returned from a web service call. Im planning to use a repeater server control and bind this with an objectdatasource. But, if i press down-arrow key on keyboard, it cycles thru the options in the order I've inserted, but never does it show more than 1 option in the box. So, In case an user wants to select option3, he has to cycle through options 1 and 2 !! Though once I select any option using the keyboard, the appropriate event handlers are fired, I'm miffed by this behaviour , as is understandable. I'm listing the properties of the combo-box control as well - only the properties that are true(rest are set to false): Type - Dropdown Vertical Scrollbar Visible Tabstop This has bugged me for weeks now.   I have followed this document on cisco site to set up the L2TP over IPsec connection. When I try to establish a VPN to ASA 5505 from my Windows XP, after I click on "connect" button, the "Connecting ...." dialog box appears and after a while I get this error message: Error 800: Unable to establish VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection. ASA version 7.2(4) ASDM version 5.2(4) Windows XP SP3 Windows XP and ASA 5505 are on the same LAN for test purposes. Edit 1: There are two VLANs defined on the cisco device (the standard setup on cisco ASA5505). - port 0 is on VLAN2, outside; - and ports 1 to 7 on VLAN1, inside. I run a cable from my linksys home router (10.50.10.1) to the cisco ASA5505 router on port 0 (outside). Port 0 have IP 192.168.1.1 used internally by cisco and I have also assigned the external IP 10.50.10.206 to port 0 (outside). I run a cable from Windows XP to Cisco router on port 1 (inside). Port 1 is assigned an IP from Cisco router 192.168.1.2. The Windows XP is also connected to my linksys home router via wireless (10.50.10.141).   I need to make the "WE8EBCDIC500" character set available in an Oracle XE installation (on my desktop) to import a mainframe-generated file. Running SELECT value FROM v$nls_valid_values WHERE parameter='CHARACTERSET' does not show this character set to be installed and I get KUP-03006: error initializing handle for character set WE8EBCDIC500 when attempting to use it.
