  Hi, I'm new to doctrine: I have a problem with the sorting of joined records. A sample. I've got an Article model which is associated with a Source model in 1 <- n. The source model has a property called 'position' with an integer value. Now I want to fetch an article with it's sources orderes by the position. My DQL looks like this: $q = Doctrine_Query::create() ->select('a.title, s.content') ->from('Article a') ->leftJoin('a.Source s') ->where('a.id = ?') ->orderBy('s.position'); The result doesn't change if I edit the position. • Unique text field in MySQL and php

  I've created a salt using; md5(rand(0,10000000)); (there is probably a better way?) There doesn't seem to be possible to make a text field unique in MYSQL. So how do I check if the salt has already been used for a previous user? Or should I generate the salt based on the current date/time? as it is impossible for 2 users to register at exactly the same time correct?

  Im sure if the title is exactly what I am trying to describe so sorry if it isnt. Ok here is what i am trying to do: What i want to do is create a function that you can enter unlimited ammount of coordinates ( the blue dots) and then it will create a shape like so and then return all coordinates the shape covers. Because this is for working with pixels, there will be no decimal coordinates.   I am trying to measure the time a script takes to upload a file to a PHP script, inside the receiving script. " seconds."; I've submitted 4MB, 25MB, 100MB and 1.4GB files. They took anything from a fraction of a second, to almost a minute, yet the script above always yielded 0 seconds. NOTE: I know that this is a duplicate question, but the accepted answer on the other question did not work for me (at least, initially): Detect how long it takes for a file to upload (PHP) I've tried it using PHP 5.3.3 with Apache 2.2.16 on Ubuntu 10.4. UPDATE: I've discovered that both the Apache header and Ajax solutions work. In fact, the solution on the duplicate question also works. The critical element to making these solutions work is to ensure that the following values in the php.ini are sufficiently high: memory_limit = 1000M upload_max_filesize = 1000M post_max_size = 1000M I am accepting the Apache header solution, since it only uses PHP.

• Handling large datasets with PHP/Drupal

  Hi all, I have a report page that deals with ~700k records from a database table. I can display this on a webpage using paging to break up the results. However, my export to PDF/CSV functions rely on processing the entire data set at once and I'm hitting my 256MB memory limit at around 250k rows. I don't feel comfortable increasing the memory limit and I haven't got the ability to use MySQL's save into outfile to just serve a pre-generated CSV. However, I can't really see a way of serving up large data sets with Drupal using something like: $form = array(); $table_headers = array(); $table_rows = array(); $data = db_query("a query to get the whole dataset"); while ($row = db_fetch_object($data)) { $table_rows[] = $row->some attribute; } $form['report'] = array('#value' => theme('table', $table_headers, $table_rows); return $form; Is there a way of getting around what is essentially appending to a giant array of arrays? At the moment I don't see how I can offer any meaningful report pages with Drupal due to this. Thanks

• Using a single PHP script for an entire site

  I had an idea today (that millions of others have probably already had) of putting all the sites script into a single file, instead of having multiple, seperate ones. When submitting a form, there would also be a hidden field called something like 'action' which would represent which function in the file would handle it. I know that things like Code Igniter and CakePHP exist which help seperate/organise the code. Is this a good or bad idea in terms of security, speed and maintenance? Do things like this already exist that i am not aware of?

  Hello, I am creating a counter for unique number of visits on a post, so what I have until now is a table for storing data like this; cvp_post_id | cvp_ip | cvp_user_id In cases a registered user visits a post, for the first time a record is inserted with cpv_post_id and cvp_user_id, so for his next visit I query the table and if the record is available I do not count him as a new visitor. In cases of an anonymous user the same happens but now the cvp_ip and cpv_post_id are used. My concerns is that I do a query every time anyone visits a post for checking if there has been a visit, what would be a more effective way for doing this?

  I'm trying to print out a html-table from db-table 'dimensions'. I only want dimensions from the selected pipetype which I get from a dropdownbox. For now I just put in "Steel" manually. Steel has pipe_id = 2 in db-table 'pipes'. I've run the first query in my db-tool and it returns 2 so there's nothing wrong there. The second query returns nothing. But when I manually set $wq = 2 (which I comment out below) it prints out the html-table perfectly.   I have a membership based website and im planning on implementing a referral system. My website is credit based, the idea is that if User X refers User Y, then User X gets 100 bonus credits. Has anybody built a referral system before and if so what obstacles should I bear in mind? I've had a snoop round SO tonight but couldn't find any suitable answers. My theory is to give each user a random string which is generated and stored in the DB when they sign up, The user will then be presented with a URL incl. that string which when they pass to somebody (User Z), User Z is then sent to a page, the page then uses the GET method to gather the Random string and update the DB Row they currently occupy, does this sound feasible or could it easily be breached? I need something that will help me with my include_once paths, but $_SESSION[DOCUMENT_ROOT] goes too far down. And if I were to use this, and transfer the website folder later, all my include_once paths will/might break. Hope my question is clear... Any recommendations?

  I have 3 featured product panels on the homepage, and I'm writing a CMS page for it. I'm trying to validate the items. They are selected via three <select> elements, featured1, featured2 and featured3. The default is <option value="0" selected>Select an element</option> I need to validate the $_POST to ensure that the user hasn't selected the same product for more than one of the panels. I have worked out that each $_POST needs to be $_POST['featuredN'] > 0 but I can't seem to find a logical way of processing the 7 potential outcomes. Using a logic table, where 1 is a set value. 1 2 3 ------- 0 0 0 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 1 If an item is 0, then I will not update it, but I want the user to be able to update a single item if needs be. I cannot find a logical way to see if the item is not 0, and then compare it to another item if that also is not 0. So far my colleague suggested, adding up the values. Which works to see if condition 1 0 0 0 is not met. I have a vague feeling that some form of recursive function might be in order, but I can't quite get my brain to help me on this one! So to the collective brain! :)

  This is the var_dump: object(stdClass)#27 (8) { ["SETTING_ID"]=> string(2) "25" ["SETTING_SOURCE"]=> string(2) "XV" ["SETTING_FLEET"]=> string(3) "313" ["SETTING_EXAM"]=> string(1) "A" ["SETTING_HIDE"]=> string(1) "0" ["SETTING_THRESHOLD"]=> string(1) "0" ["SETTING_COUNT"]=> string(8) "POSITIVE" ["SETTING_USAGE"]=> string(7) "MILEAGE" } The variable I am testing is SETTING_HIDE. This is being pulled from MySQL using the Code igniter framework. I don't know if it is just me being thick after a rather long day at work or what, but no matter what value the variable holds, any if statement made against it returns true, even when typecast as a boolean or a direct string comparison, ie. == "0" or == "1". Anyone with a fresh pair of eyes care to make me feel silly!?! :) Just to clarify: Have tried the following: if($examSetting->SETTING_HIDE == "1") { $showOnABC = "checked=\"checked\""; } if((bool)$examSetting->SETTING_HIDE) { $showOnABC = "checked=\"checked\""; } if($examSetting->SETTING_COUNT == "POSITIVE") further on in my code works perfectly.
