I want to change Windows 7's boot screen. Is there any way?
Edit: I'm not talking about the logon screen. I'm talking about the screen which you see before the Welcome screen:
When trying to use the method below to send message in Windows 7 nothing happens.
net send
It seems the Messenger Service is not working. Any suggestions as to why?
If i return to my windows 7 x64 computer after it has been idle for a couple of minutes it will respond for 3 seconds and after that everything freezes for around 5-30 seconds and then the computer starts working normally again. The freezing time varies and some times it even get stuck there forever requiring a hard reboot.
This is very annoying as you can imagine, it's almost as slow as resuming from hibernation every time you left it idle enough to turn off the monitor.
As per the title.
My VMWare player installation has setup the two network adaptor VMnet1 and VMnet8 and they are picked up as unidentified networks with no network access (i need this to activate my windows server installation on it).
The option to change the network location is not available (this might be because of network policy on the domain despite having set this as configurable in the local security policy section). Is there anyway i can change how these networks are detected or alter the configuration of vmware to get around this?
I have some old classic asp scripts. They used to work on my 2003/IIS 6 server. But on my Vista/IIS 7 and now Windows 7 Ultimate/IIS 7 server the asp pages don't work.
I did what they said here: Deploying a Classic ASP Server (IIS 7) (Microsoft TechNet).
I enabled those 3 features in IIS 7 but that just went from getting 404 to 500 error.
I want to password-protect a few applications (not just files/folders) on Windows 7, such that, there is no change to the protected application's .exe file itself.
Since the .exe files can't be changed, "Empathy" and "Protect Exe" can't be used as they change the .exe file.
I tried using WinGuard Pro and LockThis! also but they don't work for Microsoft Outlook and some other apps (that I need).
Is it possible at all? Please help.
I notices in the Network overview of Windows 7 that my switches are found on the path to the gateway, which baffled me completely. The last time I checked they just took the ethernet packages and transported them to the "right" location.
How does this switch detection work? Do switches alter the packages? Do they react on ICMP messages?

Is that possible? Anyone knows how to do that?
Thanks
I was wondering what are the best ways on local Windows for resuming transfer of files over ssh from remote linux?
I tried SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9, but I cannot find it works for resuming.
I tried Putty's psftp. It also seems not having the resuming ability.
Thanks and regards!
I want to have a script that does the following thing:
connect to a remote windows machine
get the list of applications that are currently open on the machine, e.g exactly what I would get in the "applications" tab in the task manager, and print it.
Is it possible to do that in batch?
If not, what other options do I have?
I have been using Windows 8 x64 Developers Preview as my primary OS on my laptop.
Unfortunately I have been unable to enable hibernate (tried through registry and through powercfg.cpl). The closest I have got is that I was able to enable hibernate on pressing of power button, but that just turns of screen and keeps everything else running, I have to force shutdown to do anything.
Do you know how I can get hibernate to work on my Dell Studio 17?
recently I found a video on the net ( a .mp4 file), and when I had it on my computer with Windows7, I noticed its thumbnail was not the average windows 7 video thumbnail (which looks like a piece of video film with a random picture from the movie), but a custom thumbnail! Looking in the file properties did not help find the correct button to change the thumbnail...so I just wonder how he did it! Here is a picture:
left: the custom thumbnail, right: the average thumbnail...

Does anybody know a good software tool to scan and repair sectors on harddisks (an alternative to the standard that is included with windows e.g. scandisk/chkdsk)?
I know already about all emergency/ultimate boot cd's, I am looking for a tool that is not on one of the boot-cd's.
Thank you,
Kindest regards,
Marcel

If I run Management Studio as normal user and try to connect to database 'MyDatabase', I get this error message 'The database MyDatabase is not accessible'.
I I run Management Studio per right click 'Run as administrator', then 'MyDatabase' is accessible.
Where & what should I set, to be able to access MyDatabase as normal user?
Hi
Is it possible to set on a Windows Client or Server that they only communicate with the same specific Active Directory Server? Maybe trough a Registry Hack?
Kind regards
If I want to log onto our WIFI network, Windows keeps asking for credentials. After many connection attempts (and sometimes some reboots) we finally manage to connect. Then the connection usually stays intact for the rest of the day. But it sometimes takes 15-20 minutes before we're online... Needless to say we're using a single username/password for all failing/succeeding attempts.
Does anybody recognize these symptoms? How to troubleshoot this?
I need to mount a VMWare disk image in Windows 7 64-Bit however the "VMware Mount Utility" only works on 32-Bit operating systems. Is there an application or method that I can use to mount the disk?
Hi all,
I have a 64 bit windows 7 install (thru bootcamp) on my 17" macbook pro, with the bootcamp 3.0 drivers. Whenever i run the apple software update to install the 3.1 drivers, it downloads and installs them, then reboots, and when i've rebooted, it's still stuck on version 3.0 according to 'about boot camp' on the system tray icon. I've tried installing several times, it keeps happening.
Any ideas?
Thanks
I have a directory on my Windows 7 machine that has hundreds if not thousands of sub-directories. Some of them have files, some do not. I want to delete all the empty directories.
Looking at the del and rmdir DOS command, it does not look like you can recursively do this without deleting all the files. Is there a way to do this from the command line? Or is there a tool that would do it for me?
Windows 7: I have the Browse folders option set to "Open each folder in the same window" in the Folder Options dialog. Double-clicking folders opens a new window. Please, make it stop.
