I have managed to get all the theming into files (contemplate etc), but ideally my views settings, menu settings would be in line also... RAILS_GEM_VERSION Which makes sure that only Rails of version 2.3.2 or greater will be used to run this app. Is there a way of specifying both the lower and the upper boundary at the same time? So that it would run, say, only on versions higher than 2.3.1 and lower than 2.3.6?

• Can I have a workspace that is both a git workspace and a svn workspace?

  I have checked out now a local working copy of a codebase that lives in an svn repo. It's a big Java project that I use Eclipse to develop in. Eclipse of course builds everything on the fly, in it's own way with all the binaries ending up in [project root]/bin. That's perfectly fine with me, for development, but when the build runs on the build server, it looks quite a lot different (maven build, binaries end up in a different directory structure, etc). Sometimes I need to recreate the build server environment on my local development system to debug the build or what have you, so I usually end up downloading an entirely new working copy into a new workspace and running the build from there (prevents cluttering my development workspace with all the build artifacts and dirtying up the working copy). Of course sometimes I'm interested in running the full build on code that I don't want to check in yet, so I will manually copy over the "development" workspace onto the "build" workspace. Besides taking a lot of extra time copying a lot of files that I don't actually need (just overlaying the new over the old), this also screws up my svn metadata, meaning that I can't check in changes from that "build workspace" working copy, and I often end up having to re-download the code to get it back into a known state. So I'm thinking I make my svn working copy a local git repo, then "check out" the in-development code from the svn working copy/git master, into the local build workspace. Then I can build, revert my changes, have all the advantages of a version controlled working copy in the build workspace. Then if I need to make changes to the build, push those back into the git master (which is also a svn working copy), then check them into the main svn repo. |-------------| |main svn repo| <------- |---------------------| |-------------| |svn working copy | <------- |--------------------| | (svn dev workspace/ | | non-svn-versioned | | git master) | | build workspace | |---------------------| | (git working copy) | |--------------------| Just switching everything to git would obviously be better, but, big company, too many people using svn, too costly to change everything, etc. We're stuck with svn as the main repo for now. Actually any distributed version control system would probably work (hg possibly?). Advice? How does everybody else handle this situation of having a to manage both a "development" build process and a "production" build process?

• On android how would I go about creating a prompt for an app that requires a user to enter a username before fully launching the app?

  I'll preface this with I'm really new to working on Android. So I have to work on an existing app and create a screen that prompts the user for a username if one isn't entered then it won't launch the currently existing main activity (i.e. it won't fully launch the app. Instead it will just sit on that screen until a username is entered.) I suppose that it's tantamount to a web app login page in that it will not let a user past that page if the user is not authenticated and authorized. However, there's no authentication nor authorization in this app. Instead, on first run a user must simply register with a username and that username gets saved to the database and for any subsequent runs the app's main activity will just start because a user has registered to that phone. In fact, the app will not prompt the user for their name again unless the app gets deleted with all its data and reinstalled again. This implicitly means that I have to save the user's name in the database or some other kind of storage. So I was wondering what would be the best way of doing this in an app with an existing main activity? Should I try to accomplish this on that existing main activity or create a new activity to display this prompt screen and, in effect, block the main activity from running until the user enters their name? Any tutorials or links would be helpful and thank you in advance for any help.

  Hi, I've seen iphone related open source library which says something like, "You need 4.0+ iOS build environment but the code will run on 3.0+ iOS device." • Unable to install drivers of any kind of device on windows 8.1

  Windows 8.1 is unable to install drivers. First, I wanted to install Android ADB drivers for my Chinese Android Phone. I downloaded the relevant drivers from the manufacturers site and enabled USB debugging on my phone and tried to install it but Windows failed to find any drivers in the driver folder. After searching on google, I got to know that I will have to edit the win_usb.inf file in order to install the drivers so I did the editing part also. Added these line: %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 to both NTamd and NTx86 sections but the problem persists. Phone's current hardware id is: VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 I noticed that I need hardware ID with &MI_01 appended at the end. But Windows detects the device with the above hardware ID. I have the webcam drivers so I uninstalled WebCam Drivers to check if they can be installed back but I am also not able to install drivers for it. Windows is detecting the camera without that &MI_01 part. Please help. I cannot install webcam nor my android phone.

  I have a server A running OpenVPN, an OpenVPN client B (a rooted Android phone as it happens) and a third party C (a laptop, tablet etc.) tethered to B. B can use the VPN to access the internet via A; C can use the tethered connection WITHOUT the VPN to access the internet via B. However, with the VPN on B active, I cannot load information from the internet on C. A appears to log similar traffic inbound and outbound when B or C attempt to load a webpage, say, but the VPN on device B reports no inbound traffic when the connection originated from C. Where should I look for packets being dropped, and what ip rules should I use to make sure they are passed back through the VPN and into the local network B <- C? (I'll obviously post whatever further information is needed.) • Disk Drive not working

  The CD/DVD drive on my sisters' (I'm helping her shift from Win. XP (now officially deprecated by Microsoft) to Ubuntu) system. Now, it may end up being a failed attempt, all together (Almost the whole last year (when she's been on XP) the disk drive hasn't (not even powering on) been working.), I just want to make sure I've explored every remote possibility. Because I figure, "Huh, now that I've got Ubuntu running, instead of XP, that (just) might make a difference.". I have tried using the sudo lshw command in the terminal, to (seemingly) no avil, but, who knows, you might be able to make something out of it. For my project proposal, I need to calculate what is my server requirements to overcome the traffic I explained below? and if possible, I want to learn what is approximate cost of such server? I am giving the maximum expected values for calculation : -Database will be in mysql (Average service time of DB is 100-110ms in my computer[i5,4GB Ram]) -A request will transfer 150Kb data for each request on average. -Total user count : 1m -Active user count : 50k -Estimated request/sec for 1 active user : 0.06 -Total expected request/second to the server = ~5000 I am expecting this traffic between 20:00-1:00 everyday and then this values will decrease to 1/10 rest of the day. Is there any solution to this? [e.g increasing server capacity in a specific time period everyday to reduce cost]

• Maven deploy:deploy-file not found due to version/timestamp appended to jar

  I'm having a problem using deploy:deploy-file with snapshots I'd like some advice on please. I have 2 projects; 1) Ant based and 2) the other Maven based that consumes the jars of the other project via Archiva. I've added a target to the Ant project to deploy snapshots on every successful build during our iteration. • Cannot get assembly version for footer

  I'm using the automatic build versioning mentioned in this question (not the selected answer but the answer that uses the [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")] technique). I'm doing this in the footer of my Site.Master file in MVC 2. My code for doing this is as follows: <div id="footer"> <a href="emailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a> - Copyright © 2005-<%= DateTime.Today.Year.ToString() %>, foo LLC. All Rights Reserved. - Version: <%= Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().GetName().Version.ToString() %> </div> The exception I get is a Object reference not set to an instance of an object because GetEntryAssembly() returns NULL. My other options don't work either. GetCallingAssembly() always returns "4.0.0.0" and GetExecutingAssembly() always returns "0.0.0.0". When I go look at my DLLs, everything is versioning as I would expect. But I cannot figure out how to access it to display in my footer!!
