  • Future of IE9: Opacity + Performance

    I just tried the IE9 "Second Internet Explorer Platform Preview" - which supports CSS opacity now. That's nice, but I tried it with one of my website prototypes, and it's quite slow when scrolling etc. Admittedly, the prototype uses hundreds of images with opacity != 1, but everything is snappy with current versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. Does anybody know, if there are plans for IE9 to become faster in this area? Even rumours about this would be interesting in this case.

Also I'd like to know if by messing with all APN (adding a suffix to the "apn" and "type" fields to disable 3G/EDGE/GPRS connections , and the deleting this suffix ) , the preferred APN can be disrupted. Also if it need special settings in case an APN manipulation is desired.

    Is there anything wrong with the optimization of overloading the global operator new to round up all allocations to the next power of two? Theoretically, this would lower fragmentation at the cost of higher worst-case memory consumption, but does the OS already have redundant behavior with this technique, or does it do its best to conserve memory? Basically, given that memory usage isn't as much of an issue as performance, should I do this?

Further, lets assume that only the value is used inside the function i.e. the function doesn't try to modify it. In that case will the compiler will be able to figure out that it can pass the value by const-reference (for performance reasons) and generate the code accordingly?     I have this to add a class to the main table that the report is in if there is no data returned. $('#report-area table td:contains("Sorry, your search did not return any data")').parents('#reportArea').addClass('no-report-data') However, I have another div area "#report-footer" but it's not inside #report-area. I'd like to also add the .no-report-data class to "#report-footer" as well but in this case I don't think the .parents selector will work. Is there another selector I can use to do this?

  • mySQL: Can I make count() honor limit clause?

    I'm trying to get a count of records matching certain criteria within a subset of the total records. I tried (and assumed this would work) SELECT count(*) FROM records WHERE status = 'ADP' LIMIT 0,10 and I assumed this would tell me how many records of status ADP were in that set of 10 records. It doesn't - it returns, in this case 30, which is the total number of ADP records in the table. How do I just count up the records matching my criteria including the limit?
