  • Is it proper to get and especially set Perl module's global variables directly?

    I was wondering what the best practice in Perl is regarding getting - or, more importantly, setting - a global variable of some module by directly accessing $Module::varName in case the module didn't provide getter/setter method for it. The reason it smells bad to me is the fact that it sort of circumvents encapsulation. Just because I can do it in Perl, I'm not entirely certain I should (assuming there actually is an alternative such as adding a getter/setter to the module). I'm asking this because I'm about to request an addition of a getter/setter for a global variable in one of the core Perl modules, and I would like to avoid it soundly and unanimously rejected on the grounds of "Why the heck do you need one when you can access the variable in the package directly?" - in case doing the latter is actually considered perfectly OK by the community.

  • Possible to set monthCalendar to show current month and previous 2 months?

    In a WinForms (3.5) application there is form with a monthCalendar control. The calendar control has a calendarDimension of 3 columns by 1 row. This means that it currently shows June, July, August of 2010. Is it possible to have the calendar to show April, May, June of 2010 instead? My dataset doesn't have any future dates so the date selection will be for current or older dates.

    Hi I have a UITableViewController where I added a "editButtonItem" in the navigation bar : self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; No magic here, but I try to define the color (background and foreground/textcolor) of this button. I read in the Apple forum somewhere that the button changes the color if I change the navigationbar to the same color, well despite the fact that I do not get this to work either (for testing) I do not want to touch the navigationbr itself, just the button. Since this button is already predefined I am not sure how to handle this. Do I need to overwrite the button with my own definition or can I just simply apply a new style (if so how ?) Thx

  • How do you set Android ViewPager to encompass only one View or Layout?

    I am struggling with the concepts needed to properly implement a view pager. By following some tutorials and referencing developer.android.com, I am able to get a view pager almost fully functional. The pager will flip through several text views that have been setup to say "My Message 0" through "My Message 9". The problem is that the view pager also flips the button on the bottom of the activity and the red block that is right above the button. I would like to have the view pager only cycle through the text. Would you please help me understand what I'm doing wrong? I want to do this purely for visual reasons for the user as when the form submits I ignore the "minutes" and "am/pm". I'm trying to decide whether it would be best to change the selected values, change the selected values and then disable the element or hide them altogether. However, without any success in getting anything to happen at all I haven't been able to try the different approaches to see what feels right. I've ruled out the obvious things like a duplicate element ID or simply not linking to JQuery. Thank you.

I want to give this new textbox focus. I've tried this technique from a related StackOverflow question but it always sets focus to the textbox before the newly created one. private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { this.mCollection.Add("new item!"); // MoveFocus takes a TraversalRequest as its argument. Each VPS has its own IP-address, and I can use more if IPs if I need. I would like to have the domain name pointing to a single IP-address. How can setup my Erlang/OTP-application to be fault-tolerant behind a single IP-address? Do I need to use VLAN? Is there a way my Erlang/OTP-application can use heartbeats and handle virtual IP-addresses to route the traffic? or how should I solve this problem?

    Is there any way to supress the enclosing quotation marks around each command-line argument that powershell likes to generate and then pass to external executables for command line arguments that have spaces in them? Here's the situation: One way to unpack many installers is a command of the form: msiexec /a <packagename> /qn TARGETDIR="<path to folder with spaces>" Trying to execute this from powershell has proven quite difficult. Powershell likes to enclose parameters with spaces in double-quotes. The following lines: msiexec /a somepackage.msi /qn 'TARGETDIR="c:\some path"' msiexec /a somepackage.msi /qn $('TARGETDIR="c:\some path"') $td = '"c:\some path"' msiexec /a somepackage.msi /qn TARGETDIR=$td All result in the following command line (as reported by the Win32 GetCommandLine() api): "msiexec" /a somepackage.msi /qn "TARGETDIR="c:\some path"" This command line: msiexec /a somepackage.msi TARGETDIR="c:\some path" /qn results in "msiexec" /a fooinstaller.msi "TARGETDIR=c:\some path" /qn It seems that Powershell likes to enclose the results of expressions meant to represent one argument in quotation marks when passing them to external executables. This works fine for most executables. However, MsiExec is very specific about the quoting rules it wants and won't accept any of the command lines Powershell generates for paths have have spaces in them. Is there any way to suppress this behavior?

    Hello, I am coding a simple space empire management game in Visual C# 2008, which relies on connecting to a remote SQL server database to get/store data. I would like the user to be able to connect to a user-specified SQL server from the login screen(he specifies IP address, port, database name, ID, password and presses "connect" button). However, I found out that the Dataset connection string property is read only and cannot be changed. Is there any way to guide the wizard-generated DataSet to a user-specified server at run time?     Its great when you can return a null/empty object in most cases to avoid nulls, but what about Collection like objects? In Java, Map returns null if key in get(key) is not found in the map. The best way I can think of to avoid nulls in this situation is to return an Entry<T> object, which is either the EmptyEntry<T>, or contains the value T. Sure we avoid the null, but now you can have a class cast exception if you don't check if its an EmptyEntry<T>. Is there a better way to avoid nulls in Map's get(K)? And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null, so don't say just use nulls.

    Hello, I'm programming a short Paint program like and I'm trying to make an MDI architecture for it. To make that happen, I used JInternalFrame inside a JDesktopPane. Although I kind of obtain multiple frames, there are not really working properly. Basically, if I have 2 JInternalFrame I can draw only on the last one. The other one seems to be disabled.     I'm looking for something like the Exclude filter for msbuild, but I Want it in a makefile processed by nmake. Is that possible? Suppose I have a makefile that defines this macro: SOURCES=xxx.c yyy.c zzz.c and I invoke it with nmake OLD=xxx.c NEW=bbb.c ...can I produce, within the makefile, a macro with a value like: yyy.c zzz.c bbb.c ...basically substituting bbb.c for xxx.c ? The files can appear in any order. This would be pretty easy if the string substitution that is possible in nmake macros, allowed for evaluation of macros. In other words, I can do sources=xxx.c yyy.c zzz.c objs=$(sources:.c=.o) and the value of $(objs) is xxx.o yyy.o zzz.o But nmake does not allow a macro for the value of either argument to that substitution. I cannot do this: new=.o sources=xxx.c yyy.c zzz.c objs=$(sources:.c=$(new))

There are plugins which can handle one word but I haven't seen any that handles multiple words. Also, I hear JQuery is hosted on google code. Is it a good or bad idea to link directly from that?
