After i install last versions of Opera till Opera 10.53 i always found on their startup page http://www.opera.com/portal/startup/ that opera is The fastest browser on Earth ... is it really although i think that chrome is the really fast one during my use in last 16 month ?
I am going to www.facebook.com, but the site that appears is totally different. This occurs on Chrome 6+, IE9, and FF 3+. What could be happening? Is this a security risk?
Facebook was working just fine, then all of a sudden this happened.
Update: The same problem occurs on my netbook.
Update 2: When I go to http://69.63.189.11/, it works fine. So... DNS problem? How do I fix?
Update 3: Checked the hosts file:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
Looks like it hasn't been altered.
When I'm browsing I always use the address bar to search, but when I do this in Internet Explorer 10, I get taken to the default search engine Bing.
So I started looking in the Internet Options to see if I could change it, but I couldn't find the right option.
There's no clear way to add Google from this screen and when I clicked: Find more search providers..., you get taken to IE Gallery where Google isn't even listed.
So how do I change my Internet Explorer 10 search engine to Google?
When picking receiver from my contact, the receiver's name will be displayed as well, like "Somebody" . But I don't want receiver to know how I named them. I just want them see receiver as [email protected]. Can I do this in gmail? Thanks.
I switched to Chrome half a year back because Firefox had become sluggish on my Linux box (both Ubuntu and OpenSuse). 6 months later and the problem remains - anyone know what is going on and any tips to improve? I still need to use Firefox occasionally for Firebug.
After updating to the latest version of Chrome (33) on my Gentoo Linux box, certain sites such as GitHub have started rendering with ugly, pixelated, non-antialiased fonts. Small text is now basically impossible to read.
Before this, GitHub had looked the same to me on Windows, Linux, and Mac computers. So what has happened here and how can it be fixed?
EDIT: Appears to be fixed on the stable release of Chrome 34.
My goal is to show different web content full screen on multiple monitors automatically after booting from a single computer. The browser I would like to use is Chrome. If Chrome does not support this and Firefox does that would be fine.
The OS I would prefer is Windows, if it turns out that Linux is possible that would be fine.
On Windows it is possible to set the position of the Chrome browser window (--window-position=) and make Chrome start in full screen mode (--kiosk). Using these options combined you can start Chrome full screen on any of the desktops/screens that you have connected to your computer. I have managed to get this working.
However, if I then try to do the same thing a second time to have Chrome full screen on a second screen the second Chrome window will open over the first window, no matter the coordinates I use for the --window-position parameter.
I have tried using Chrome profiles and copying the Chrome directory and starting the second chrome.exe. All these things result in the same behaviour.
I've downloaded Advanced Chrome (http://browser.taokaizen.com/) and am now using it instead of Chrome.
Each time I open the browser, it keeps asking me if I would like to set it as the default browser, which I do. When the browser is reopened, it asks me again. I've looked at Settings and tried to click the 'make Chromium my default browser' button, but it doesn't appear to register my wish to make it the default browser - nothing happens!
Any ideas?
I cant open codinghorror.com in any of my browsers (IE, Firefox & Chrome).
Chrome gives this error msg:
Error 109
(net::ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE):
Unknown error
What could be the problem? Im running Win XP if that matters.
Recently Apple released a Java update. I mindlessly downloaded and installed it, thinking it must be good (I know that was stupid on my part). Now chrome doesn't work where sites require Java support. In terminal, java -version shows I have the 64bit version installed.
I know Chrome does not support 64bit Java. I'd like to go back to the last version that worked for me, the 32-bit version. I don't want to use Safari or Firefox. I'd like Chrome to work. I have too much invested in customizing it to work with another browser.
I cannot connect to the internet with Chrome or Internet Explorer. Firefox works fine.
It seems it happens when I was infected by a "Trojan Horse Generic 17.BWIK", "Trojan Horse SHeur.UHL" and "Fake_Antispyware.FAH". I have removed the threats using AVG anti-virus security. I got Firefox working, but Chrome and IE still cannot connect.
I do not want to loose Chrome History so re-setting would be my last option and uninstall and install will be out of the question. Is there a way around this? I am using XP Pro on a desktop and DSL connection.
I'm using the Chrome Browser. I enjoy the "automatic filling" that it uses to fill in things like my address when I'm shopping online.
Sometimes I get a message that says:
"This webpage has disabled automatic filling for this form"
Is there a way that I can tell Chrome to ignore what the webpage wants and just give me what I want?
I'm not talking about passwords, I'm talking about Chrome's automatic filling in of things like my email address, zip code, etc.
For Example: https://www.kansas.gov/ump/register/account?
Hi,
What is the best way to install a plugin capable of playing real videos for Debian Linux?
In particular I want this web page to run correctly under Iceweasel and Chrome:

I've been struggling this morning trying to associate an application with a custom protocol, namely emacsclient and org-protocol.
I'm calling this protocol from a webbrowser bookmarklet, and I get the following behaviour :
In chromium,
the "Launch Application" dialog comes up, and calls xdg-open org-protocol://... which ends up firing a new chromium frame.
In firefox,
I've tried setting network.protocol-handler.app.org-protocol to an empty string or my emacsclient path, anyhow I get the following error message :
"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (org-protocol) isn't associated with any program" without even showing any external application selection dialog.
I'm not using any desktop environment, so I need to make this work strictly with xdg, however, despite reading the shared mime info spec etc, I still can't fathom a working configuration.
So I was really excited about the new integrated pdf viewer in chrome.
However when I click on a pdf file link, chrome offers to download it instead of opening it inside its viewer.
How do i get it to open pdfs inside its viewer?
Edit: I have found that it behaves kinda randomly. Sometimes it does open it inside its viewer and sometimes it asks to download it.
In gmail though it always asks to download it.
Note: I already have the 'ask where to save each file before downloading' option unchecked.
I use the new built-in "Users" feature of Chrome to switch between Home/Work accounts easily. However, Chrome remembers the "last" user profile you had selected when launching new windows. This is a problem if I close down my "Home" profile last, because when I then click the Email shortcut on my taskbar, because it goes to mail.mycompany.com using my Home profile, and I'm not logged in.
I'd like to change the shortcut to the company webmail to pass a switch that tells Chrome to always start as the "Default" user, regardless of the last one used.
Note: I have tried user-data-dir, and this seems to do something very different, completely isolated from the Users functionality built in to Chrome. It's possible I'm using it wrong, but please test this before assuming it does the same thing and posting an answer ;-)
I use the GMall 'Call phone' feature a lot, and the numeric keyboard pad works great for entering conference codes, but most conference call services want you "Enter your conference code followed by the 'hash' or 'pound' sign. So I end up typing the 10 digit conference code using the keyboard but then I have to use my mouse to push the # or hash sign.
Is their a way to push the # with the keyboard?

I was looking in chrome://gpu which told me that "Rasterization: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled." and further down "Accelerated rasterization has not been enabled or is not supported by the current system."
Is there a way to enable hardware acceleration?
I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some gestures in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine .
What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ?
And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started
MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit
Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this .
Thanks in advance for responding to this post
I was curious if there was an equivalent technique in Chrome to do address bar param string replacement like you can do in Firefox. If you create a bookmark and put a %s in the bookmark URL/address part, and set a keyword for the bookmark, you can do things like
URL: http://php.net/%s
Keyword: php
Type in browser: php fopen
End up at: http://php.net/fopen
Is this making its way into Chrome or is there a way to do it?
Hi,
whenever I turn on Chrome, it crashes after a very short while (less than a minute). It started happening about a week ago for no apparent reason. I didn't install any new software, update or uninstall anything (as far as I remember), it just crashes. It doesn't matter wether I even open any page or not, Chrome just dies, period.
Doesn't anybody have an idea why might that be?
I'm running on Windows Vista Home Basic.
Is there a way to open all items in a folder in Chrome on Mac OS X? In Windows you can go to a folder in the bookmarks, right-click and select open all in tabs, but in Mac OS X this is not possible. Right click doesn't do anything. Is there an alternate way to do it?
JavaScript code can update the properties/attributes of DOM elements in real time by responding to events and so on. Here is an example.
In the table on that page, move your mouse over the cells. Notice how they change color when the mouse is on them, and the color goes away when you move the mouse to another cell.
Now, using Firefox or Chrome (but not IE, Opera, etc.), I want to examine the background color, expressed in RGB or hex or whatever, of the cells updated in real time, as the mouse cursor enters and leaves the region and causes the JS to do its thing.
The behavior that I observe, currently, is that the Inspect Element functionality of both Firefox and Chrome does not update the value of the properties as they are updated by JavaScript. So, in order to view the latest value of the property, I have to inspect the element again, and it takes a momentary "snapshot" of the values. But since the values only change while I have the mouse on them, I can't take a snapshot of the value I want while my mouse cursor is over the cell, because I have to remove my mouse from the cell to select the "Inspect Element" item in the right-click list!
If it is possible to have the values updated in real time using either Firefox or Chrome, or an extension, on any recent version of the software (up to the latest stable), please provide instructions for doing so.
On my Win 7 computer, this happens:
I work for several hours without problems, also using Chrome
Suddenly, just after refreshing a page in Chrome, disk starts being
used excessively
(here I can close Chrome or not, no matter, the disk won't stop)
Disk diod is on all the time and I hear it running like crazy, all
computer is a little slowed down
It last 5-10 minutes
In the meantime, I go to Windows Task Manager and observe what
processes are using disk and turn them off one by one - but no
success in stopping the excessive disk usage
After approximately 10 minutes everything stops
I go to Chrome (or re-open it) and refresh the page with mixed
results - sometimes the whole process repeats immediately, sometimes
not
Basically, it is almost always Chrome refreshing random page that starts the excessive disk usage, but killing Chrome process does not stop the disk.
Going to the same page in Firefox is not causing problems.
Windows Search is turned off.
I would like to know what is really happening. Perhaps there is a utility which would allow me to see which process is really using the disk, so that I can disable the service ? (not chrome, because killing chrome does not change anything) or even better, perhaps there is a way to fix it?
