• Any way to chunk gzip with Apache and PHP

  I have a web application on a site that takes a while (~10 seconds) to complete a portion of the page near the bottom - it has been as optimized as it can be, and caching is not an option. We have compression enabled on the server via an .htaccess directive SetOutputFilter DEFLATE the problem is this causes the whole page to be held until completion before it starts outputting to the user, this is not optimal as the user sees nothing until the page completes. I have also tried it via the php ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); method. Currently I have a <FilesMatch > in my .htaccess restricting this specific script from being compressed. Basically my question is this - Is there a way to say chunk gzip or deflate so that the user gets it in pieces, so they can see that the page has begun loading?

  Hi, I need to parse a string like this: a[metadata][][name]=dont|do|this&a[name]=Hello World&a[metadata][][value]=i|really|mean it CGI::parse gives me this: {"a[name]"=["Hello World"], "a[metadata][][name]"=["dont|do|this"], "a[metadata][][value]"=["i|really|mean it"]} I would like something like what PHP does with parse_str, which when given the same string does this: Array ( [a] => Array ( [metadata] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [name] => dont|do|this ) [1] => Array ( [value] => i|really|mean it ) ) [name] => Hello World )) Any help would be awesome.   I'm working on some PHP code which takes input from various sources and needs to find the URLs and save them somewhere. The kind of input that needs to be handled is as follows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY2j_GPIqRA Try google: http://google.com! (note exclamation mark is not part of the URL) Is http://somesite.com/ down for anyone else? Output: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY2j_GPIqRA http://google.com http://somesite.com/ I've already borrowed one regular expression from the internet which works, but unfortunately wipes the query string out - not good! Any help putting together a regular expression, or perhaps another solution to this problem, would be appreciated.

• PHP: How to read email attachment

  What I have: A person daily send to me an email, which has a zip'ed XML attachment. What I do: I save that attachment, unpack it and import via XML importerer to my web site. What I need: Automatic script, what I can automatically forward my email to ex.: [email protected] and read that attachment via some php file in my website, which maybe will be activated daily via server cronjob. • php require class call from inside method

  from my understanding, require pastes code into the calling php file. what if you were requiring from inside a method...it would paste the entire code/class inside the method, blocking the next statement in the method. eg. function test() { require 'pathtosomeclasscode'; somestatement; // any code after the require is blocked. } how do i get around this, to be able to require code where-ever, without it being pasted in that exact spot? • Organizing PHP includes in your development environment

  I'm auditing my site design based on the excellent Essential PHP Security by Chris Shiflett. One of the recommendations I'd like to adopt is moving all possible files out of webroot, this includes includes. Doing so on my shared host is simple enough, but I'm wondering how people handle this on their development testbeds? Currently I've got an XAMPP installation configured so that localhost/mysite/ matches up with D:\mysite\ in which includes are stored at D:\mysite\includes\ In order to keep include paths accurate, I'm guess I need to replicate the server's path on my local disk? Something like D:\mysite\public_html\ Is there a better way?

  Hi, I am developing an application using PHP but I am new to regular expressions, I could not find a solution to my problem. I want to replace all occurences of #word with a link, i have written a preg_match for this: $text=preg_replace('~#([\p{L}|\p{N}]+)~u', '<a href="/?aranan=$1">#$1</a>', $text); The problem is, this regular expression also matches the html character codes like &#039; and gives corrupt output. I need to exclude the words starting with &# but i do not know how to do that using regular expressions. Thanks for your help.

  Hi everyone, After debugging a codeigniter app that were installed into a new development environment, I have started to freak out when seeing white screens with nothing more available. I have been able to solve each and every one of the errors that have caused this, but it have taken seriously way too long time. PHP error_reporting(E_ALL) & display_errors", 1 is set as well. I even installed Xdebug in hope of getting more output, but no. My logging settings are also working, but nothing is written to the log. Is there a way to get something informative printed out instead of a complete white screen? It would certainly shorten my time spent on solving the eventual errors that causes this? Thanks a lot! • Redirecting a large number of URLs with htaccess or php header

  I have undergone a major website overhaul and now have 5,000+ incoming links from search engines and external sites, bookmark services etc that lead to dead pages or 404 errors. A lot of the pages have corresponding "permalinks" or known replacement hierarchy/URL structure. I've started to list the main redirects with htaccess or physical files with simply a header location reidrect which is clearly not sustainable! What would be the best method to list all of the old link addresses and their corresponding new addresses with htaccess, php headers, mysql, sitemap file or is it better to have all broken links and wait for search engines etc to re-index my site? Are there any implications for having a large number of redirecting files for this temporary period until links are reset?

• Open browser window with formed URL after posting a PHP form

  So here's the question. I have this php form that collects some data, after posting the data gets parsed an URL is constructed. After this URL is constructed, I'd like to open a new browser window for the user with this newly constructed URL. How can I actually accomplish this? Is this something that can only be done with javascript? If so... How? I already have the code in place and i've tested it works that construct the URL after posting the form, now it's just a matter of opening a new window with the URL.

• Security when writing a PHP webservice?

  I am writing a web service in PHP for the first time and had ran into some security problems. 1) I am planning to hash passwords using md5() before I write them to the database (or to authenticate the user) but I realize that to do that, I would have to transmit the password in plaintext to the server and hash it there. Because of this I thought of md5()ing it with javascript client side and then rehashing on the server but then if javascript is disabled, then the user can't login, right? 2) I have heard that anything that when the action is readonly, you should use GET but if it modifies the database, you should use POST. Isn't post just as transparent as GET, just not in the address bar?

  I can't seem to get the function connection_aborted to work with nginx. The code I used to test is as follow: <?php ignore_user_abort(true); ob_implicit_flush(); $i = 0; while (!connection_aborted()) { echo $i; $i++; sleep(1); } file_put_contents('test',$i); In Apache, it works correctly, although it delays a little. i.e. When I press stop button on browser when "3", the 'test' file shows "8". That is an acceptable margin, but on nginx, it doesn't seem to output anything to the 'test' file.

• Help with regex pulling XML data from response body in PHP

  I am working on a project that pulls data from JMS queue using PHP and Zend Framework. The HTTP client response is below. All I need is the XML string. I came up with /(.*)<\/RequestDetails/gs which tests ok on http://gskinner.com/RegExr/ but the preg_match call is returning an empty matches array.   Hello I'm getting a bunch of weird html output in users messages e.g. \u0644\u064a\u0646\u0643 \u0627\u0644 \u0639\u0627\u0645\u0644 I assume their aribic characters decoded? How can I perhaps preg replace all these codes with something a little more useful? because search results are filled with pages and pages of this stuff Perhaps even display them as they're supposed to be? • FastCGI, PHP, Sendmail, and Codeigniter

  Hi Everyone. I am experiencing an odd issue. I just switched to FastCGI (Apache) because of the big performance boost. Everything is working great, except when I attempt to use sendmail (Codeigniter Class or just raw PHP). I have tested with and without CI and still get a 500 internal server error when trying to send. Could this be getting caused by a discrepency in how FastCGI utilizes sendmail? Has anyone else experienced this issue? Also, the email will send, it just errors afterwards. Please let me know a solution if you have one! Thanks! :)
