  • Error when decoding image C# asp

    - by Wayneio
    I am trying to use MessagingToolkit to decode an image in C#/ASP. I have managed to encode a qr using this package, but when i try to decode, using the code below it comes up with 2 errors (at the bottom of the page) I believe this is because I am not getting the image correctly after uploading, but can someone point out exactly where I have gone wrong. Thanks. protected void CreateCode_OnClick(object sender, EventArgs e) { string path = "C:\\Users\\Wayneio\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2012\\Projects\\BAMSystem\\BAMSystem\\"; if (QRUpload.HasFiles == true) { FileInfo fi = new FileInfo(QRUpload.FileName); string extA = fi.Extension; if (extA == ".jpg" || extA == ".png") { QRCodeDecoder decoder = new QRCodeDecoder(); QRUpload.SaveAs(path + QRUpload.FileName); System.Drawing.Image myImg = System.Drawing.Image.FromFile(path + QRUpload.FileName); decoder.Decode(myImg); } else { error.Text = "You have uploaded a " + extA + " file. • How can I embed images in an ASP.NET Generated Word File

    - by Nikos Steiakakis
    Hi everyone! I have a quite common problem, as I saw in the various user groups but could not find a suitable answer. What I want to do is generate an ASP.NET page in my website which will have the option of being exported into Microsoft Word .doc format. The method I have used is this: Response.Clear(); Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=Test.doc"); Response.Charset = ""; Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache); Response.ContentType = "application/msword"; StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(); HtmlTextWriter htmlWrite = new HtmlTextWriter(sw); Page.RenderControl(htmlWrite); Response.Write(sw.ToString()); Response.End(); However this eventhough it generates a word doc, the images are note embedded in the document, rather they are placed as links. I have looked for a way to do this, but have not found something that actually worked. I would appreciate any help I can get, since this as "last minute" requirement (talk about typical) Thanks

  • ASP.NET MVC Map String Url To A Route Value Object

    - by mwgriffiths
    I am creating a modular ASP.NET MVC application using areas. In short, I have created a greedy route that captures all routes beginning with {application}/{*catchAll}. Here is the action: // get /application/index public ActionResult Index(string application, object catchAll) { // forward to partial request to return partial view ViewData["partialRequest"] = new PartialRequest(catchAll); // this gets called in the view page and uses a partial request class to return a partial view } Example: The Url "/Application/Accounts/LogOn" will then cause the Index action to pass "/Accounts/LogOn" into the PartialRequest, but as a string value. // partial request constructor public PartialRequest(object routeValues) { RouteValueDictionary = new RouteValueDictionary(routeValues); } In this case, the route value dictionary will not return any values for the routeData, whereas if I specify a route in the Index Action: ViewData["partialRequest"] = new PartialRequest(new { controller = "accounts", action = "logon" }); It works, and the routeData values contains a "controller" key and an "action" key; whereas before, the keys are empty, and therefore the rest of the class wont work. So my question is, how can I convert the "/Accounts/LogOn" in the catchAll to "new { controller = "accounts", action = "logon" }"?? If this is not clear, I will explain more! :) Matt This is the "closest" I have got, but it obviously wont work for complex routes: // split values into array var routeParts = catchAll.ToString().Split(new char[] { '/' }, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries); // feels like a hack catchAll = new { controller = routeParts[0], action = routeParts[1] };

  • Exporting dataset to Excel file with multiple sheets in ASP.NET

    - by engg
    In C# ASP.NET 3.5 web application, I need to export multiple datatables (or a dataset) to an Excel 2007 file with multiple sheets, and then provide the user with 'Open/Save' dialog box, WITHOUT saving the Excel file on the web server. I have used Excel Interop before. I have been reading that it's not efficient and is not the best approach to achieve this and there are more ways to do it, 2 of them being: 1) Converting data in datatables to an XML string that Excel understands 2) Using OPEN XML SDK 2.0. It looks like OPEN XML SDK 2.0 is better, please let me know. Are there any other ways to do it? I don't want to use any third-party tools. If I use OPEN XML SDK, it creates an excel file, right? I don't want to save it on the (Windows 2003) server hard drive (I don't want to use Server.MapPath, these Excel files are dynamically created, and they are not required on the server, once client gets them). I directly want to prompt the user to open/save it. I know how to do it when the 'XML string' approach is used. Please help. Thank you.

  • Custom Class to store the properties and passing the class object across the pages - ASP.NEt

    - by NLV
    Hello I've a requirement where i need to pass some objects across the pages. So i created a custom class with all the properties required and created a instance of it and assigned all the properties appropriately. I then put that object in the session and took it the other page. The problem is that even when i set the properties values to the class it is coming as null. I set a breakpoint in the getter-setter and saw that the value itself is coming as null. Code - public class GetDataSetForReports { private Table m_aspTable; private int m_reportID; private string m_accountKey; private string m_siteKey; private string m_imUserName; /// <summary> /// Asp Table containing the filters /// </summary> public Table aspTable { get { return m_aspTable; } set { m_aspTable = aspTable; } } /// <summary> /// Report ID /// </summary> public int reportID { get { return m_reportID; } set { m_reportID = reportID; } } /// <summary> /// All the accounts selected /// </summary> public string accountKey { get { return m_accountKey; } set { m_accountKey = accountKey; } } /// <summary> /// All the sites selected /// </summary> public string siteKey { get { return m_siteKey; } set { m_siteKey = siteKey; } } /// <summary> /// Current User Name /// </summary> public string imUserName { get { return m_imUserName; } set { m_imUserName = imUserName; } } } This is how i'm creating an instance in the page1 and trying to get it in the page2. Page1 Code //Add the objects to the GetDataSetForReports Class GetDataSetForReports oGetDSForReports = new GetDataSetForReports(); oGetDSForReports.aspTable = aspTable; oGetDSForReports.reportID = iReportID; oGetDSForReports.accountKey = AccountKey; oGetDSForReports.siteKey = Sitekey; oGetDSForReports.imUserName = this.imUserName.ToString(); But the values are not getting set at all. The values are not passing to the class (to the setter) at all. Am i making any OOPS blunder? Any ideas? NLV

  • can't publish my asp.net project?

    - by Sulaiman
    dears, when try to publish my mroject I get this error: Error 3 Task failed because "AL.exe" was not found, or the correct Microsoft Windows SDK is not installed. The task is looking for "AL.exe" in the "bin" subdirectory beneath the location specified in the InstallationFolder value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1) Install the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. 2) Install Visual Studio 2008. 3) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. 4) Pass the correct location into the "ToolPath" parameter of the task.

  • ASP.NET output caching - dynamically update dependencies

    - by ColinE
    Hi All, I have an ASP.NET application which requires output caching. I need to invalidate the cached items when the data returned from a web service changes, so a simple duration is not good enough. I have been doing a bit of reading about cache dependencies and think I have the right idea. It looks like I will need to create a cache dependency to my web service. To associate the page output with this dependency I think I should use the following method: Response.AddCacheItemDependency(cacheKey); The thing I am struggling with is what I should add to the cache? The dependency my page has is to a single value returned by the web service. My current thinking is that I should create a Custom Cache Dependency via subclassing CacheDependency, and store the current value in the cache. I can then use Response.AddCacheItemDependency to form the dependency. I can then periodically check the value and for a NotifyDependencyChange in order to invalidate my cached HTTP response. The problem is, I need to ensure that the cache is flushed immediately, so a periodic check is not good enough. How can I ensure that my dependant object in the cache which represents the value returned by the web service is re-evaluated before the HTTP response is fetched from the cache? Regards, Colin E.

  • How to set focus to a web control in ASP.NET

    - by Dan7el
    Question: What is the best way to set focus to a web control in ASP .NET. I can do it, but it's ugly. I have a web control wrapped in a web control hosted on a web page. So, if you do a view | source on the page the id is something like WrapperControl_Control_TextBox. I've tried the "tried and true" Javascript methods of grabbing the element and setting it's focus: document.getElementByID( "WrapperControl_Control_TextBox" ).focus(); and it didn't work. I'm not sure why. I know I could possibly do: document.getElementById( "<%= TextBox.ClientID %" ).focus(); too, I think. This won't work because of another totally separate error based on the fact you can't dynamically add controls to a header if there is a "<% %" in the page. GAH. In the "bottom-most" control, I've tried setting the focus (TextBox.Focus() in Page_Load) and that doesn't work either. Anyway, the way that works is by simply taking the ControlsCollection of the Page, grabbing the control I need from that, getting it's collection, grabbing the next lower control and so forth. I only have to do this seven times. So I have eight foreach loops. Basically, my code is like this: /////////////////////////////// // On the page /////////////////////////////// ControlCollection controls = Controls; foreach( Control control in controls) { if ( string.Equals( control.ID, "FormID", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnore ) ) { ControlCollection nextControls = control.Controls; foreach( Control nextControl in nextControls ) { if ( string.Equals( nextControl.ID, "DivICareAboutInTheForm", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnor ) ) { ControlCollection nextNextControls = nextControl.Controls; //: //: //Yes, it's that bad and so forth. //: //: } } } }

  • MEF and ASP.NET MVC

    - by denis_n
    I want to use MEF with asp.net mvc. I wrote following controller factory: public class MefControllerFactory : DefaultControllerFactory { private CompositionContainer _Container; public MefControllerFactory(Assembly assembly) { _Container = new CompositionContainer(new AssemblyCatalog(assembly)); } protected override IController GetControllerInstance(RequestContext requestContext, Type controllerType) { if (controllerType != null) { var controllers = _Container.GetExports<IController>(); var controllerExport = controllers.Where(x => x.Value.GetType() == controllerType).FirstOrDefault(); if (controllerExport == null) { return base.GetControllerInstance(requestContext, controllerType); } return controllerExport.Value; } else { throw new HttpException((Int32)HttpStatusCode.NotFound, String.Format( "The controller for path '{0}' could not be found or it does not implement IController.", requestContext.HttpContext.Request.Path ) ); } } } In Global.asax.cs I'm setting my controller factory: protected void Application_Start() { AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); ControllerBuilder.Current.SetControllerFactory(new MefControllerFactory.MefControllerFactory(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly())); } I have an area: [Export(typeof(IController))] [PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared)] public class HomeController : Controller { private readonly IArticleService _articleService; [ImportingConstructor] public HomeController(IArticleService articleService) { _articleService = articleService; } // // GET: /Articles/Home/ public ActionResult Index() { Article article = _articleService.GetById(55); return View(article); } } IArticleService is an interface. There is a class which implements IArticleService and Exports it. It works. Is this everything what I need for working with MEF? How can I skip setting PartCreationPolicy and ImportingConstructor for controller? I want to set my dependencies using constructor. When PartCreationPolicy is missing, I get following exception: A single instance of controller 'MvcApplication4.Areas.Articles.Controllers.HomeController' cannot be used to handle multiple requests. If a custom controller factory is in use, make sure that it creates a new instance of the controller for each request.

  • ASP MVC 2: Regular expression attribute working on clientside but not on serverside

    - by wh0emPah
    [Required(ErrorMessage = "Date is required")] [RegularExpression(@"^(((0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01])\/(0[13578]|1[02])\/((1[6-9]|[2-9]\d)\d{2}))|((0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)\/(0[13456789]|1[012])\/((1[6-9]|[2-9]\d)\d{2}))|((0[1-9]|1\d|2[0-8])\/02\/((1[6-9]|[2-9]\d)\d{2}))|(29\/02\/((1[6-9]|[2-9]\d)(0[48]|[2468][048]|[13579][26])|((16|[2468][048]|[3579][26])00))))$", ErrorMessage="Date is not valid must be like (dd/mm/jjjj)")] public DateTime Startdate{ get; set;} The client-side validation works perfectly. So it seems that JavaScript can successfully understand my regular expression. But when I do a postback, and the modelstate.Isvalid() gets called. My date isn't valid anymore. So I'm guessing that when .NET performs the matching with the regEx it doesn't match. My question: Why does this regular expression match on the client side but not on the server side?

  • ASP.NET:Paging when deleting rows

    - by Niels Bosma
    I have a datagrid where a row can be deleted (using ajax). I'm have problem with the pager in the following scenario: Lets say my PageSize is 10, I have 101 rows so that's 11 pages with the last page with an single element. Let no assume that I'm on page 10 (PageIndex=9) and delete a row. Then I go to the 11'th page (who's now empty and doesn't really exist). ASP now shows me the EmptyDataTemplate and no pager so I can't go back. My approach (which isn't working) is to detect this scenario and step one page back: public void Bind() { gridMain.DataBind(); } public void SetPage(int page) { gridMain.PageIndex = page; gridMain.DataBind(); } protected void ldsGridMain_Selecting(object sender, LinqDataSourceSelectEventArgs e) { selectArgs = e; e.Result = (new EnquiryListController()).GetEnquiryList(OnBind(this), supplier); } protected void ldsGridMain_Selected(object sender, LinqDataSourceStatusEventArgs e) { totalRows = selectArgs.Arguments.TotalRowCount; //Detect if we need to update the page: if (gridMain.PageIndex > 0 && (gridMain.PageSize * gridMain.PageIndex + 1) > totalRows) SetPage(gridMain.PageIndex - 1); } protected void gridMain_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e) { SetPage(e.NewPageIndex); } I can see that SetPage is called with the the right page index, but the databind doesn't seem to called as I still get the EmptyDataTemplate.

  • ASP.NET "Object reference not set..." error

    - by Roman
    Hi, I have a website written using ASP.NET. We have a development machine and a deployment server. The site works great on the development machine, but when is transfered (using simple FTP Upload) generates strange behavior. It starts working just fine, but after a while stops working and throws an exception "Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.". The deal is that the absolute path of the website on the development machine is different than on the deployment server (and why should they be similar?) and the exact error is: Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at SOMEPROJECT_Objects.Player..ctor(Int32 PlayerID) in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\SOMEPROJECTSolution\ALLPROJECT\SOMEPROJECT_Objects\Player.cs:line 123 at SOMEPROJECT_GameLayer.M_Game.PlayerActiveGame(Int32 PlayerID) in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\SOMEPROJECTSolution\ALLPROJECT\SOMEPROJECT_GameLayer\M_Game.cs:line 85 at Web.getsms.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\SOMEPROJECTSolution\ALLPROJECT\SOMEPROJECT-sms\Web\getsms.aspx.cs:line 59 The address that it is looking for is the address on the DEVELOPMENT machine, where as the site now resides on the deployment server. Any ideas why this happens would be appreciated. Thanks, Roman

  • ASP.Net Problem with Event Handlers and Control Creation Timing

    - by Oliver Weichhold
    What I am trying to achieve here is to display a number of LinkButtons in a RadGrid Column. The buttons are generated from a collection property member of the bound grid row item. The CollectionLinkButton control is nothing more than a asp:Panel derived control that populates its Child Controls from "DataItem.SomeCollection" and this is working fine. The problem I am facing is with this part: Collection='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.SomeCollection") %' This is because databound Collection Property is populated so late in the lifecycle of the page that the LinkButton Controls that the CollectionLinkButton class creates from the collection are not available yet during Postback when the Click event Handler is supposed to fire and I have currently no idea how to solve this problem. <radG:RadGrid ID="grid" runat="server" DataSourceID="ds_AB"> <MasterTableView> <Columns> <radG:GridTemplateColumn> <ItemTemplate> <local:CollectionLinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" CssClass="EntityLinkButton" Collection='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.SomeCollection") %>' CollectionProperty="Id" CollectionDisplayProperty="Name" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.Name") %>'</local:CollectionLinkButton> </ItemTemplate> </radG:GridTemplateColumn>

  • Asp.Net Login Control very slow initial connection to Non-Trusted AD Domain

    - by Eric Brown - Cal
    ASP.NET Login control is very slow making the initial connection to AD when authenticating to a different domain than the domain the web server is a member of. Problem occurs for the IIS server and when using with the Visual Studio's built in web server. It takes about 30 seconds the first time when attempting to use the control to connect against another domain. There is no trust relationship bewteen the web server's domain and the other domains (attempted connecting to several different domains). Subsequent connections execute quickly until the connection times out. Using Systernals Process Monitor to troubleshoot, there are two OpenQuery operations right before the delay to "C:\WINDOWS\asembly\GAC_MSIL\System.DirectoryServices\2.0.0.0_b03f5f7f11d50a3a\Netapi32.dll with a result NAME NOT FOUND" and right after the 30 second delay the TCP Send and TCP Recieves indicate communication begins with the AD server. Things we have tried: Impersonating an administrator on the web server in the web.config; Granting permissions to the CryptoKeys to the NetworkService and ASPNET; Specifying by IP instead of DNS name; Multiple variations of specifying the name and ldap server with domains and OU's; Local host entries; Looked for ports being blocked (SYN_SENT) with netstat -an. Nslookup resolves all the domains and systems involved correectly. TraceRt shows the Correct routes Any Idea or hints are greately appreicated.

  • ASP.NET MVC UpdateModel - fields vs properties??

    - by mrjoltcola
    I refactored some common properties into a base class and immediately my model updates started failing. UpdateModel() and TryUpdateModel() did not seem to update inherited public properties. I cannot find detailed info on MSDN nor Google as to the rules or semantics of these methods. The docs are terse (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd470933.aspx), simply stating: Updates the specified model instance using values from the controller's current value provider. SOLVED: MVC.NET does indeed handle inherited properties just fine. This turned out to have nothing to do with inheritance. My base class was implemented with public fields, not properties. Switching them to formal properties (adding {get; set; }) was all I needed. This has bitten me before, I keep wanting to use simple, public fields. I would argue that fields and properties are syntactically identical, and could be argued to be semantically equivalent, for the user of the class.

  • How to use a Base ViewModel in Asp.net MVC 2

    - by Picflight
    As I familiarize myself with Asp.Net MVC, I am using MVC 2, I have noticed the use of a BaseViewData class in the Kigg project which I am unsure how to implement. I want each of my ViewModels to have certain values available. Using an iterface comes to mind but I am wondering what the best practice is and how does Kigg do it? Kigg public abstract class BaseViewData { public string SiteTitle { get; set; } // ...other properties } public class UserListViewData : BaseViewData { public string Title { get; set; } // .. other stuff } In my WebForms application I use a BasePage that inherits from System.Web.UI.Page. So, in my MVC project, I have this: public abstract class BaseViewModel { public int SiteId { get; set; } } public class UserViewModel : BaseViewModel { // Some arbitrary ViewModel } Referencing the Kigg methodology, how do I make sure that each of my ViewModel that inherits from the BaseViewModel have the SiteId property? What is the best practice, samples or patterns I should be using?

  • Architecting ASP.net MVC App to use repositories and services

    - by zaladane
    Hello, I recently started reading about ASP.net MVC and after getting excited about the concept, i started to migrate all my webform project to MVC but i am having a hard time keeping my controller skinny even after following all the good advices out there (or maybe i just don't get it ... ). The website i deal with has Articles, Videos, Quotes ... and each of these entities have categories, comments, images that can be associated with it. I am using Linq to sql for database operations and for each of these Entities, i have a Repository, and for each repository, i create a service to be used in the controller. so i have - ArticleRepository ArticleCategoryRepository ArticleCommentRepository and the corresponding service ArticleService ArticleCategoryService ... you see the picture. The problem i have is that i have one controller for article,category and comment because i thought that having ArticleController handle all of that might make sense, but now i have to pass all of the services needed to the Controller constructor. So i would like to know what it is that i am doing wrong. Are my services not designed properly? should i create Bigger service to encapsulate smaller services and use them in my controller? or should i have an articleCategory Controller and an articleComment Controller? A page viewed by the user is made of all of that, thee article to be viewed,the comments associated with it, a listing of the categories to witch it applies ... how can i efficiently break down the controller to keep it "skinny" and solve my headache? Thank you! I hope my question is not too long to be read ...

  • Core dump utility for .NET

    - by Dave
    In my past life as a COBOL mainframe developer I made extensive use of a tool called Abendaid which, in the event of an exception, would give me a complete memory dump including a formatted list of every variable in memory as well as a complete stack trace of the program with the offending statement highlighted. This made pinpointing the cause of an error much simpler and saved a lot of step-through debugging and/or trace statements. Now I've made the transition to C# and .NET web development I find that the information provided by ASP.NET only tells half the story, giving me a stack trace, but not any of the variable or class information. This makes debugging more difficult as you then have to run the process again with the debugger to try and reproduce the error, not easy with intermittent errors or with assemblies that run under the likes of SQL Server or CRM. I've looked around quite a lot for something that does this but I can't find anything obvious. Does anyone have any idea if there is one, or if not, what I'd need to start with in order to write one?

When I checked the Thread count in perfmon there was around 7000 threads created in worker process. In PageLoad() I have: using System.Threading; ... int count = 0; var threadList = new System.Collections.Generic.List<System.Threading.Thread>(); try { while (true) { Thread newThread = new Thread(ThreadStart(DummyCall), 1024); newThread.Start(); threadList.Add(newThread); count++; } } catch (Exception ex) { Response.Write(count + " : " + ex.ToString()); } Function: void DummyCall() { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000000000); } How do I restrict thread creation in ASP.NET with IIS6/7?

  • ASP.NET MVC WAP, SharePoint Designer and SVN

    - by David Lively
    All, I'm starting a new ASP.NET MVC project which requires some content management capabilities. The people who will be managing the content prefer to use SharePoint Designer (successor to FrontPage) to modify content. I'd like to allow them to keep doing that. The issues are: Since I'd like this to be a WAP, not a website project, how can I allow them to see their changes in action without requiring them to have Visual Studio on their local machines? Can I specify a "default" action for a controller so that given a url like /products/new_view_here Can I let them save pages (views) and see them in the browser without having to go through the check-in/build/deploy process? I'd like their changes to be stored in SVN; SharePoint designer seems to only support Visual SourceSafe (ugh) directly. The ideas I've come up with so far are Write an HTTP handler that implements the FrontPage Server Extensions protocol. This sounds time consuming, but I haven't yet looked at the protocol spec. However, it would allow me to perform whatever operations I want on the server side, including checking files into SVN. Ditch the WAP in favor of a website project. I do not like having the source present on the server, however. Also, will MVC work in a website project? Surely someone has tackled this problem before?
