• How to nest joins with CakePHP?

- by Daren Thomas
I'm trying to behave. So, instead of using following SQL syntax: select * from tableA INNER JOIN tableB on tableA.id = tableB.tableA_id LEFT OUTER JOIN ( tableC INNER JOIN tableD on tableC.tableD_id = tableD.id) on tableC.tableA_id = tableA.id I'd like to use the CakePHP model->find(). This will let me use the Paginator too, since that will not work with custom SQL queries as far as I understand (unless you hardcode one single pagination query to the model which seems a little inflexible to me). What I've tried so far: /* inside tableA_controller.php, inside an action, e.g. "view" */ $this->paginate['recursive'] = -1; # suppress model associations for now $this->paginate['joins'] = array( array( 'table' => 'tableB', 'alias' => 'TableB', 'type' => 'inner', 'conditions' => 'TableB.tableA_id = TableA.id', ), array( 'table' => 'tableC', 'alias' => 'TableC', 'type' => 'left', 'conditions' => 'TableC.tableA_id = TableA.id', 'joins' = array( # this would be the obvious way to do it, but doesn't work array( 'table' => 'tableD', 'alias' => 'TableD', 'type' => 'inner', 'conditions' => 'TableC.tableD_id = TableD.id' ) ) ) ) That is, nesting the joins into the structure. But that doesn't work (CakePHP just ignores the nested 'joins' element which was kind of what I expected, but sad. I have seen hints in comments on how to do subqueries (in the where clause) using a statement builder. Can a similar trick be used here?

• Java: Altering UI fonts (Nimbus) doesn't work!

- by ivan_ivanovich_ivanoff
Hello! I'm referring to this Nimbus reference. I tried to set global Font to be slightly larger: UIManager.put("defaultFont", new Font(Font.SANS_SERIF, 0, 16)); ...works only for the menu but nothing else (buttons, labels). I tried to change labels and buttons fonts with UIManager.put("Button.font", new Font(Font.SANS_SERIF, 0, 16)); UIManager.put("Label.font", new Font(Font.SANS_SERIF, 0, 16)); but the font remains. The only thing that worked for me was deriving a font: someButton.setFont(someButton.getFont().deriveFont(16f)); But this is not an option, since this must be done for each element manually. Note, that deriving a font for UIManager doesn't work either: UIManager.put("Label.font", UIManager.getFont("Label.font").deriveFont(16f)); I tested everything under Linux and Windows: same behavior. I just can't understand how an API can be so messy. If a method is called setFont(..) then I expect it to set the font. If this method fails to set the font in any thinkable circumstances, then it should be deprecated. EDIT: The problem not only applies to Nimbus, but also to the default LAF.

• Hiding a button on pushed view and showing it when back to list view

- by torr
When I load my list view it has several blog posts and a refresh button on the top left. If I tap on a list item a view is pushed with the contents of that specific post. When this view is pushed in, the refresh button is hidden. But when I tap 'Back' to the parent list view, I'd like the refresh button to show (un-hide) - but it remains hidden. Any idea how to make this work? This is my View: Ext.require(['Ext.data.Store', 'MyApp.model.StreamModel'], function() { Ext.define('MyApp.view.HomeView', { extend: 'Ext.navigation.View', xtype: 'homepanel', requires: [ 'Ext.dataview.List', ], config: { title: 'Home', iconCls: 'home', styleHtmlContent: true, navigationBar: { items: [ { xtype: 'button', iconMask: true, iconCls: 'refresh', align: 'left', action: 'refreshButton', id: 'refreshButtonId' } ] }, items: { title: 'My', xtype: 'list', itemTpl: [ '<div class="post">', ... '</div>' ].join(''), store: new Ext.data.Store({ model: 'MyApp.model.StreamModel', autoLoad: true, storeId: 'stream' }), } } }); }); and my Controller: Ext.define('MyApp.controller.SingleController', { extend: 'Ext.app.Controller', config: { refs: { stream: 'homepanel' }, control: { 'homepanel list': { itemtap: 'showPost' } } }, showPost: function(list, index, element, record) { this.getStream().push({ xtype: 'panel', html: [ '<div class="post">', '</div>' ].join(''), scrollable: 'vertical', styleHtmlContent: true, }); Ext.getCmp('refreshButtonId').hide(); } });

• Is it possible to store pointers in shared memory without using offsets?

- by Joseph Garvin
When using shared memory, each process may mmap the shared region into a different area of their address space. This means that when storing pointers within the shared region, you need to store them as offsets of the start of the shared region. Unfortunately, this complicates use of atomic instructions (e.g. if you're trying to write a lock free algorithm). For example, say you have a bunch of reference counted nodes in shared memory, created by a single writer. The writer periodically atomically updates a pointer 'p' to point to a valid node with positive reference count. Readers want to atomically write to 'p' because it points to the beginning of a node (a struct) whose first element is a reference count. Since p always points to a valid node, incrementing the ref count is safe, and makes it safe to dereference 'p' and access other members. However, this all only works when everything is in the same address space. If the nodes and the 'p' pointer are stored in shared memory, then clients suffer a race condition: x = read p y = x + offset Increment refcount at y During step 2, p may change and x may no longer point to a valid node. The only workaround I can think of is somehow forcing all processes to agree on where to map the shared memory, so that real pointers rather than offsets can be stored in the mmap'd region. Is there any way to do that? I see MAP_FIXED in the mmap documentation, but I don't know how I could pick an address that would be safe.

• php - sort and delete duplicates?

- by c41122ino
I've got an array that looks like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( num => 09989, dis => 20 ) [1] => Array ( num => 09989, dis => 10 ) [2] => Array ( num => 56676, dis => 15 ) [3] => Array ( num => 44533, dis => 20 ) [4] => Array ( num => 44533, dis => 50 ) ) First, I'm trying to sort them by num, and can't seem to get the usort example from php.net working here. It simply doesn't appear to be sorting... I'm also trying to delete the array element if it's a duplicate and whose dis value is higher than the other one. So, based on the example above, I'm trying to create: Array ( [0] => Array ( num => 09989, dis => 10 ) [1] => Array ( num => 44533, dis => 20 ) [2] => Array ( num => 56676, dis => 15 ) ) This is the code from php.net: function cmp($a, $b) { if ($a == $b) { return 0; } return ($a < $b) ? -1 : 1; }

• Use jQuery to find and add an image tooltip

- by lund.mikkel
Hey people Okay, what I'm trying to accomplish is a simple tool tip that, when you hover over the name of a color, shows a little image of that color. The html markup looks like this: <label class="colorPicker"> <input type="radio" checked="" id="20" value="20" name="id[2]"> <img width="16" height="16" title=" DinoBlack Mat " alt="DinoBlack Mat" src="images/attributes/color/dinoblack_mat.jpg">DinoBlack Mat </label> <label class="colorPicker"> <input type="radio" id="874" value="874" name="id[2]"> <img width="16" height="16" title="XrayBlue shiny" alt="XrayBlue shiny" src="images/attributes/color/xrayblue_shiny.jpg">XrayBlue shiny </label> I'm using the jQuery plugin "Tooltip" and I've added following to my main js-file: $('.colorPicker').tooltip({ track: true, delay: 0, showURL: false, fade: 250, bodyHandler: function() { return $("<img/>").attr("src", [THE SOURCE FOR THE IMAGE]); } }); The idea is simply that the image should be hidden by default. But when you hover over the text the little thumbnail shows up and makes it easy to recognize the color. The problem is I haven't got a clue how to get the src for the thumbnail. I don't know how to extract the src from the img inside the selected element. I've tried various combinations using the this keyword, but nothing seemed to work. I've also tried to add the src path as a rel attribute to the label, but also without any success. Should be needless to say I also control the PHP-output... I really hope you can help me. I've search the web for days without any luck. I'm getting desperate :D /Mikkel Lund

• jQuery Accordion: IE animation issues

- by Nathan Long
Update I am making this a community wiki, for three reasons: I don't feel like I got a definitive answer, but I have long since stopped needing an answer, because I rolled my own accordion function this question gets tons of views, so clearly lots of people are still interested So if anybody wants to change/clarify this question and make it a definitive guide, be my guest. I'm working on a page using jQuery's accordion UI element. I modeled my HTML on that example, except that inside the <li> elements, I have some unordered lists of links. Like this: $(document).ready(function() { $(".ui-accordion-container").accordion( {active: "a.default", alwaysOpen: true, autoHeight: false} ); }); <ul class="ui-accordion-container"> <li> <!-- Start accordion section --> <a href='#' class="accordion-label">A Group of Links</a> <ul class="linklist"> <li><a href="http://example.com">Example Link</a></li> <li><a href="http://example.com">Example Link</a></li> </ul> <!--and of course there's another group --> Problem: IE Animation stinks Although IE7 animates the documentation's example accordion menu just fine, it has problems with mine. Specifically, one accordion menu on the page moves jerkily and has flashes of content. I know that it's not a CSS issue because the same thing happens if I don't include my CSS files. The other accordion menu on the page opens the first section you click and, after that, won't open any of them. Both of these problems are IE-specific, and both go away if I use the option animated: false. But I'd like to keep the default slide animation, since it helps the user understand what the menu is doing. Is there another way?

• Checking inherited attributes in an 'ancestry' based SQL table

- by Brendon Muir
I'm using the ancestry gem to help organise my app's tree structure in the database. It basically writes a childs ancestor information to a special column called 'ancestry'. The ancestry column for a particular child might look like '1/34/87' where the parent of this child is 87, and then 87's parent is 34 and 34's is 1. It seems possible that we could select rows from this table each with a subquery that checks all the ancestors to see if a certain attribute it set. E.g. in my app you can hide an item and its children just by setting the parent element's visibility column to 0. I want to be able to find all the items where none of their ancestors are hidden. I tried converting the slashes to comma's with the REPLACE command but IN required a set of comma separated integers rather than one string with comma separated string numbers. It's funny, because I can do this query in two steps, e.g. retrieve the row, then take its ancestry column, split out the id's and make another query that checks that the id is IN that set of id's and that visibility isn't ever 0 and whala! But joining these into one query seems to be quite a task. Much searching has shown a few answers but none really do what I want. SELECT * FROM t1 WHERE id = 99; 99's ancestry column reads '1/34/87' SELECT * FROM t1 WHERE visibility = 0 AND id IN (1,34,87); kind of backwards, but if this returns no rows then the item is visible. Has anyone come across this before and come up with a solution. I don't really want to go the stored procedure route. It's for a rails app.

• Are there any libraries for showing diffs between two web pages?

- by Chad Johnson
I am looking for a library in any language--preferably PHP though--that will display the difference between two web pages. The differences can be displayed side-by-side, all in one document, or in any other creative way. Examples of what this would look like: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pLC3YDiv_I4/SBZPYQMDsPI/AAAAAAAAADk/wUMxK307jXw/s1600-h/wikipediadiff.jpg http://www.rohland.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/html_diff_output_text.PNG I am NOT looking for raw code diffing, like this: http://thinkingphp.org/img/code_coverage_html_diff_view.png. I do NOT want to show the difference between two sets of HTML. I want to show differences in rendered, WYSIWYG form. Every solution I tried suffered from one or more of the following problems: If I change the attribute of an element (eg. change
to
), then I'll have an extra table tag in the output (eg.

...). And, one table tag will have a del tag around it, while the other will have an ins tag around it, and that will obviously cause problems. If I change
[body]some content here[/body]
to
[body]some other content here[/body]
then it looks like
[body][del]original[/del][ins]new[/ins] content here[/body]
I'm looking for out-of-the-box ideas. Any ideas are welcome.

• Using max-width = 100% and max-height = 100% on an image, calculate the display width/height

- by NatalieMac
I am creating a slideshow for images of various sizes to display centered vertically and horizontally within a canvas area. In my CSS, I set the width and height of the image to 100% so that each image would proportionally fill the canvas. I want the canvas to auto-size itself to fit within the viewer's screensize as the original size of the images is quite large (up to 800 pixels tall). I am using jQuery 1.4, and using the height of the image to calculate the top value for absolute positioning it to the middle of the canvas. I have tried using jQuery to get the .height(), innerHeight(), and outerHeight(), but it always gets the full size of the image. I extracted the DOM element from the jQuery object and tried using .width, .offsetWidth, and .clientWidth, but that too always seems to return the full size of the image. Firebug displays the correct dimensions, so I know there's some way of calculating the actual display height of the image, I just can't figure out what it is. How do you get the actual display height of an image if you've set max-height = 100%? I didn't want to have to calculate and set the height of each image in the js, but if I have to, I will. It just seems like I should be able to set the canvas size and have the images auto-adjust.

• Does Internet Explorer 7 have a CSS parsing issue with the "background-image" property?

- by user312003
Having CSS layout issues with Internet Explorer 7 (big surprise). Upon using the Developer Tools to inspect the CSS, I discovered that some properties defined in the stylesheet are not appearing in the parsed CSS structure... THEN I saw THIS being shown as the parsed value for the background-image property: background-image : url(/trunk/httpdocs/images/layout/HCBL_Homepage_01.jpg); WIDTH: 1200px; pretty much obliterating the width that was defined property. The actual code in the CSS file for this element: div#header { width: 1200px; height: 100px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; background-image: url('/trunk/httpdocs/images/layout/HCBL_Homepage_01.jpg'); background-repeat: no-repeat; } If anyone could offer any insight, or provide a link describing this problem (and maybe a workaround...) I would be very appreciative. Also, I am only interested in this from a parsing of the stylesheet and CSS syntax perspective. I am not concerned with rendering and display issues at the moment; I simply want to get IE 7 (and I have a feeling IE 6 will have similar issues) to recognize and parse ALL of the CSS properties that have been defined in the stylesheet. Thanks in advance guys!

• How to sort a date array in PHP

- by Click Upvote
I have an array in this format: Array ( [0] => Array ( [28th February, 2009] => 'bla' ) [1] => Array ( [19th March, 2009] => 'bla' ) [2] => Array ( [5th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [3] => Array ( [19th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [4] => Array ( [2nd May, 2009] => 'bla' ) ) I want to sort them out in the ascending order of the dates (based on the month, day, and year). What's the best way to do that? Originally the emails are being fetched in the MySQL date format, so its possible for me to get the array in this state: Array [ ['2008-02-28']='some text', ['2008-03-06']='some text' ] Perhaps when its in this format, I can loop through them, remove all the '-' (hyphen) marks so they are left as integars, sort them using array_sort() and loop through them yet again to sort them? Would prefer if there was another way as I'd be doing 3 loops with this per user. Thanks. Edit: I could also do this: $array[$index]=array('human'=>'28 Feb, 2009', 'db'=>'20080228', 'description'=>'Some text here'); But using this, would there be any way to sort the array based on the 'db' element alone? Edit 2: Updated initial var_dump

• How can I enable child inputs text selection in Mozilla Firefox using CSS?

- by L. Shaydariv
Hi. Let consider the following scenario. I have the following page where all rendered elements must be non-selectable. You can select the text from me" /> <textarea> And me too. </textarea> </div> </body> </html> The input and textarea text is still selectable in Google Chrome, but the text is not selectable in Firefox. I've already tried the following: input, textarea { -moz-user-select: text !important; } And... It simply doesn't work because (as far as I can see) input and textarea are nested in the document body element that's already is not selectable. So, is it possible to enable text selection of the nested user input elements in Firefox using CSS? Thank you for suggestions.

• GWT : Internet Explorer transparency issue

- by dindeman
This post concerns only IE. The last line of the following code is causing the issue. int width = 200; int height = 200; int overHeight = 40; AbsolutePanel absPanel = new AbsolutePanel(); absPanel.setSize(width + "px", height + "px"); SimplePanel underPanel = new SimplePanel(); underPanel.setWidth(width + "px"); underPanel.setHeight(height + "px"); underPanel.getElement().getStyle().setBackgroundColor("red"); SimplePanel overPanel = new SimplePanel(); overPanel.setWidth(width + "px"); overPanel.setHeight(overHeight + "px"); overPanel.getElement().getStyle().setBackgroundColor("black"); //Setting the IE opacity to 20% on the black element in order to obtain the see through effect. overPanel.getElement().getStyle().setProperty("filter", "alpha(opacity=20)"); absPanel.add(underPanel, 0, 0); absPanel.add(overPanel, 0, 0); RootPanel.get("test").add(absPanel); //The next line causes the problem. absPanel.getElement().getStyle().setProperty("filter", "alpha(opacity=100)"); So basically this code should display a red square of 200px by 200px (see underPanel in the code) and on top of it a black rectangle of 200px by 40px (see overPanel in the code). However the black rectangle is partially see through since its transparency is set to 20%, therefore it should appear in red, but of a darker red than the rectangle sitting under since it is actually a faded black item. Some rendering problem occurs because of the last line of code that sets the opacity of the containing AbsolutePanel to 100% (which in theory should not affect the visual result). Indeed in that case the panel lying over remains still see through but straight through the background colour of the page! It's like if the panel sitting under was not there at all... Any ideas? This is under GWT 2.0 and IE7.

• jQuery: preventDefault() not working on input/click events?

- by Jason
I want to disable the default contextMenu when a user right-clicks on an input field so that I can show a custom contextMenu. Generally speaking, its pretty easy to disable the right-click menu by doing something like: $([whatever]).bind("click", function(e) { e.preventDefault(); }); And in fact, I can do this on just about every element EXCEPT for input fields in FF - anyone know why or could point me towards some documentation? Here is the relevant code I am working with, thanks guys. HTML: <script type="text/javascript"> var r = new RightClickTool(); </script> <div id="main"> <input type="text" class="listen rightClick" value="0" /> </div> JS: function RightClickTool(){ var _this = this; var _items = ".rightClick"; $(document).ready(function() { _this.init(); }); this.init = function() { _this.setListeners(); } this.setListeners = function() { $(_items).click(function(e) { var webKit = !$.browser.msie && e.button == 0; var ie = $.browser.msie && e.button == 1; if(webKit||ie) { // Left mouse...do something() } else if(e.button == 2) { e.preventDefault(); // Right mouse...do something else(); } }); } } // Ends Class

• Nested parsers in happy / infinite loop?

- by McManiaC
I'm trying to write a parser for a simple markup language with happy. Currently, I'm having some issues with infinit loops and nested elements. My markup language basicly consists of two elements, one for "normal" text and one for bold/emphasized text. data Markup = MarkupText String | MarkupEmph [Markup] For example, a text like Foo *bar* should get parsed as [MarkupText "Foo ", MarkupEmph [MarkupText "bar"]]. Lexing of that example works fine, but the parsing it results in an infinite loop - and I can't see why. This is my current approach: -- The main parser: Parsing a list of "Markup" Markups :: { [Markup] } : Markups Markup { $1 ++ [$2] } | Markup { [$1] } -- One single markup element Markup :: { Markup } : '*' Markups1 '*' { MarkupEmph $2 } | Markup1 { $1 } -- The nested list inside *..* Markups1 :: { [Markup] } : Markups1 Markup1 { $1 ++ [$2] } | Markup1 { [$1] } -- Markup which is always available: Markup1 :: { Markup } : String { MarkupText $1 } What's wrong with that approach? How could the be resolved? Update: Sorry. Lexing wasn't working as expected. The infinit loop was inside the lexer. Sorry. :) Update 2: On request, I'm using this as lexer: lexer :: String -> [Token] lexer [] = [] lexer str@(c:cs) | c == '*' = TokenSymbol "*" : lexer cs -- ...more rules... | otherwise = TokenString val : lexer rest where (val, rest) = span isValidChar str isValidChar = (/= '*') The infinit recursion occured because I had lexer str instead of lexer cs in that first rule for '*'. Didn't see it because my actual code was a bit more complex. :)

• jQuery Character Counter Inside Newly Created Tooltip

- by Dodinas
Hello all, I'm having a difficult time figuring this one out. I'm attempting to have a user open a tooltip (using jQuery qTip). What this does is create a "new" tooltip element on the page; it takes it from an existing hidden HTML div on the webpage. Once this new tooltip is created, it has a character counter that is supposed to dynamically update as the user types in the textbox (which is inside the tooltip). The "Max Length Character Counter" script can be found here. However, the "counter" portion is not working inside the newly created tooltip. Any ideas how I can bind this max length character counter to the tooltip? Here's what I'm working with so far: function load_qtip(apply_qtip_to) { $(apply_qtip_to).each(function(){ $(this).qtip({ content: $(".tooltip-contents"), //this is a DIV in the HTML show: 'click', hide: 'unfocus' }); }); } $(document).ready(function() { load_qtip(".tooltip"); $('.my_textbox').maxlength({ 'feedback' : '.my_counter' }); }); And here's what the HTML basically looks like (remember, though, this entire div is "replicated" into a new tooltip): <div class="tooltip_contents"> <form> <div class="my_counter" id="counter">55</div> <textarea class="my_textbox" maxlength="55" id="textbox"></textarea> <input type="button" value="Submit"> </form> </div> Any direction/suggestions on this would be great, as I am completely lost. Thanks very much!

• Serializing a DataType="time" field using XmlSerializer

- by CraftyFella
Hi, I'm getting an odd result when serializing a DateTime field using XmlSerializer. I have the following class: public class RecordExample { [XmlElement("TheTime", DataType = "time")] public DateTime TheTime { get; set; } [XmlElement("TheDate", DataType = "date")] public DateTime TheDate { get; set; } public static bool Serialize(Stream stream, object obj, Type objType, Encoding encoding) { try { using (var writer = XmlWriter.Create(stream, new XmlWriterSettings { Encoding = encoding })) { var xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(objType); if (writer != null) xmlSerializer.Serialize(writer, obj); } return true; } catch (Exception) { return false; } } } When i call the use the XmlSerializer with the following testing code: var obj = new RecordExample {TheDate = DateTime.Now.Date, TheTime = new DateTime(0001, 1, 1, 12, 00, 00)}; var ms = new MemoryStream(); RecordExample.Serialize(ms, obj, typeof (RecordExample), Encoding.UTF8); txtSource2.Text = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(ms.ToArray()); I get some strange results, here's the xml that is produced: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RecordExample xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <TheTime>12:00:00.0000000+00:00</TheTime> <TheDate>2010-03-08</TheDate> </RecordExample> Any idea's how i can get the "TheTime" element to contain a time which looks more like this: <TheTime>12:00:00.0Z</TheTime> ...as that's what i was expecting? Thanks Dave

• HTML checkbox field is being passed to PHP as checked even when it is not

- by Ryan
Hello all, First of all thanks in advance, this has been very frustrating and I'm hoping someone can see something I'm not, I am definitely no php expert. Well here' what is going on. I have a form where I have a checkbox for people to opt in to our newletter. The form element looks like this: <label for=newsletter accesskey=N class="checkbox">Signup for Cloverton's Newsletter</label> <input name="newsletter" type="checkbox" id="newsletter" value="Yes" style="width:20px;" /> That is then submitted to a php file with this code: if (isset($_POST['newsletter']) && $_POST['newsletter'] == 'Yes'){ echo "newletter yes"; $newsletter = 1; }else{ echo "newsletter no"; $newsletter = 0; } $newsletter is then inserted into a database field. The issue is that whether the box is checked or not it is being sent to php as true, so every entry is receiving the newsletter. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

• Possible defect with jQuery ':checked' selector (finding checked checkbox when there are none)

- by Mphammad Ashour
Found a strange thing. The following code is supposed to set a default value for a UI element based on whether one of a group of checkboxes (all having attribute name="privacy") is checked (in say, a form postback). If there is no value in the HTML sent by the server (the form is not a postback), the default value should be firstMenuItemKey. Otherwise, it should be the one checked in the underlying HTML. However, while this works on the first call to the URL that includes the form, a refresh of the page will set the value of defaultPrivacyValue to one of the privacy checkboxes'. I've checked that the server isn't checking the checkbox before the script runs (it's not). I've also checked whether somewhere else in the script is checking the checkbox (it's not). var defaultPrivacyValue = firstMenuItemKey; $('input[name=privacy]:checked').each(function() { defaultPrivacyValue = $(this).next().find('.name').text(); }); selectMenuItem(defaultPrivacyValue); When I chaged the selector to 'input[name=privacy][checked=checked]' it worked as expected. Is this a defect in the jQuery implementation of DOM retrieval based on the ':checked' selector???? I'm using jQuery 1.4.2. Thanks for any help you can give.

• if/else statement in a function: using onclick as a switch

- by Aurora Schmidt
I have looked for solutions to this on google for what seems like an eternity, but I can't seem to formulate my search correctly, or nobody has posted the code I'm looking for earlier. I am currently trying to make a function that will modify one or several margins of a div element. I want to use an if/else statement within the function, so that the onclick event will switch between the two conditions. This is what I have been working on so far; function facebookToggle() { if($('#facebooktab').style.margin-left == "-250px";) { document.getElementById("facebooktab").style.marginLeft="0px"; } else { document.getElementById("facebooktab").style.marginLeft="-250px"; } } I have tried twisting it around a little, like switching between "marginLeft" and "margin-left", to see if I was just using the wrong terms.. I'm starting to wonder if it might not be possible to combine jQuery and regular javascript? I don't know.. It's all just guesses on my part at this point. Anyway, I have a div, which is now positioned (fixed) so almost all of it is hidden outside the borders of the browser. I want the margin to change onclick so that it will be fully shown on the page. And when it is shown, I want to be able to hide it again by clicking it. I might be approaching this in the wrong way, but I really hope someone can help me out, or even tell me another way to get the same results. Thank you for any help you can give me. You can see it in action at: http://www.torucon.no/test/ (EDIT: By the way, I am a complete javascript novice, I have no experience with javascript prior to this experiment. Please don't be too harsh, as I am aware I probably made some really stupid mistakes in this short code.) EDITED CODE: function facebookToggle() { if($('#facebooktab').css('margin-left', '-250px') { $('#facebooktab').css('margin-left', '0px'); } else { $('#facebooktab').css('margin-left', '-250px'); } }

• generating images with php based on css3 gradient settings?

- by thrice801
Hi, Does anyone know if there is a php library, or if there isnt, have any input on how one would go about generating an image via php, from basic HTML element input settings, and CSS 3 gradient parameters. To give an example on why this would be useful, I have found as of a couple days ago, that laying out the wireframe for a webpage using basic Css3 gradient styling speeds up my design and development time by, well, alot. I cant design from photoshop, Ill spend hours tweaking stupid little things that only lead to me tweaking more stupid little things to compensate for stupid little changes. -- So, I had an epiphany to stop using photoshop until the end, and just focus on the main styling of elements, text-shadow, and borders for highlights, and I feel I am able to make super clean, more focused layout by being more restricted to the basics of graphic design with just css. Anyways, so Im planning on after I have the layouts done, to then recreate the graphics in photoshop, so that every browser is able to render the images. This wont take long, but as far as repeating it goes, if I could just do it with PHP, that would be incredible. For instance, take this style for example, which renders a clean looking ipad/pod ish menu/button gradient.
background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #808080, #454545 50%, #313131 51%, #333333); background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0, #808080), color-stop(.5, #454545), color-stop(.5, #313131), to(#333333));
Basically what Im looking to do is take one or more inputs that control rendering the image as you see there. Take a width and a height input, and then render the image gradient accordingly, so I can save it, upload it and then use it in my designs. So ya, I know PHP has some image generation capabilities but I dont know to what extent, any input on the most effective way to go about doing this or whether it already exists, would be appreciated!

• ASP.NET:Paging when deleting rows

- by Niels Bosma
I have a datagrid where a row can be deleted (using ajax). I'm have problem with the pager in the following scenario: Lets say my PageSize is 10, I have 101 rows so that's 11 pages with the last page with an single element. Let no assume that I'm on page 10 (PageIndex=9) and delete a row. Then I go to the 11'th page (who's now empty and doesn't really exist). ASP now shows me the EmptyDataTemplate and no pager so I can't go back. My approach (which isn't working) is to detect this scenario and step one page back: public void Bind() { gridMain.DataBind(); } public void SetPage(int page) { gridMain.PageIndex = page; gridMain.DataBind(); } protected void ldsGridMain_Selecting(object sender, LinqDataSourceSelectEventArgs e) { selectArgs = e; e.Result = (new EnquiryListController()).GetEnquiryList(OnBind(this), supplier); } protected void ldsGridMain_Selected(object sender, LinqDataSourceStatusEventArgs e) { totalRows = selectArgs.Arguments.TotalRowCount; //Detect if we need to update the page: if (gridMain.PageIndex > 0 && (gridMain.PageSize * gridMain.PageIndex + 1) > totalRows) SetPage(gridMain.PageIndex - 1); } protected void gridMain_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e) { SetPage(e.NewPageIndex); } I can see that SetPage is called with the the right page index, but the databind doesn't seem to called as I still get the EmptyDataTemplate.
