  • Showing a loading spinner only if the data has not been cached.

    - by Aaron Mc Adam
    Hi guys, Currently, my code shows a loading spinner gif, returns the data and caches it. However, once the data has been cached, there is a flicker of the loading gif for a split second before the data gets loaded in. It's distracting and I'd like to get rid of it. I think I'm using the wrong method in the beforeSend function here: $.ajax({ type : "GET", cache : false, url : "book_data.php", data : { keywords : keywords, page : page }, beforeSend : function() { $('.jPag-pages li:not(.cached)').each(function (i) { $('#searchResults').html('<p id="loader">Loading...<img src="../assets/images/ajax-loader.gif" alt="Loading..." /></p>'); }); }, success : function(data) { $('.jPag-current').parent().addClass('cached'); $('#searchResults').replaceWith($(data).find('#searchResults')).find('table.sortable tbody tr:odd').addClass('odd'); detailPage(); selectForm(); } });

So how I can get information about the scrollbars of an Webbrowser control instance or the IE Webbrowser?

  • Error Handling for Application in PHP

    - by Zubair1
    I was wondering if someone can show me a good way to handle errors in my PHP app, that i am also easily able to reuse in my codes. So far i have been using the following functions: Inline Errors function display_errors_for($fieldname) { global $errors; if (isset($errors[$fieldname])) { return '<label for="' .$fieldname. '" class="error">' . ucfirst($errors[$fieldname]). '</label>'; } else { return false; } } All Errrors function display_all_errors($showCounter = true) { global $errors; $counter = 0; foreach ($errors as $errorFieldName => $errorText) { if ($showCounter == true) { $counter++; echo '<li>' . $counter . ' - <label for="' .$errorFieldName. '">' .$errorText. '</label></li>'; } else { echo '<li><label for="' .$errorFieldName. '">' .$errorText. '</label></li>'; } } } I have a $errors = array(); defined on the top of my global file, so it is appended to all files. The way i use it is that if i encounter an error, i push a new error key/value to the $errors array holder, something like the following: if (strlen($username) < 3) { $errors['username'] = "usernames cannot be less then 3 characters."; } This all works great and all, But i wondering if some one has a better approach for this? with classes? i don't think i want to use Exceptions with try/catch seems like an overkill to me. I'm planning to make a new app, and i'll be getting my hands wet with OOP alot, though i have already made apps using OOP but this time i'm planning to go even deeper and use OOP approach more extensively. What i have in mind is something like this, though its just a basic class i will add further detail to it as i go deeper and deeper in my app to see what it needs. class Errors { public $errors = array(); public function __construct() { // Initialize Default Values // Initialize Methods } public function __destruct() { //nothing here too... } public function add($errorField, $errorDesc) { if (!is_string($errorField)) return false; if (!is_string($errorDesc)) return false; $this->errors[$errorField] = $errorDesc; } public function display($errorsArray) { // code to iterate through the array and display all errors. } } Please share your thoughts, if this is a good way to make a reusable class to store and display errors for an entire app, or is getting more familiar with exceptions and try/catch my only choice?

  • AS3: Adding get/set methods to a class via prototype

    - by LiraNuna
    I'm looking for a way to extend a class via prototype by adding a get and set functions. The following code will add a function to the class' prototype: MyClass.prototype.newMethod = function(... args) { }; However I want to add both a get and set functions. I tried: MyClass.prototype.fakeProperty = get function(... args) { }; MyClass.prototype.fakeProperty = set function(... args) { }; But that seem to throw compile errors. Is this even possible? Is there some 'internal' naming convention for get/set functions? I am not looking for answers such as 'create a new class and new get/set functions there'.

  • Using the "naked" attribute for functions in GCC

    - by Art Spasky
    GCC documentation (http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Function-Attributes.html) states in 6.29 Declaring Attributes of Functions "naked Use this attribute on the ARM, AVR, IP2K, RX and SPU ports to indicate that the specified function does not need prologue/epilogue sequences generated by the compiler. It is up to the programmer to provide these sequences. The only statements that can be safely included in naked functions are asm statements that do not have operands. All other statements, including declarations of local variables, if statements, and so forth, should be avoided. Naked functions should be used to implement the body of an assembly function, while allowing the compiler to construct the requisite function declaration for the assembler." Can I safely call functions using C syntax from naked functions, or only by using asm?

  • So many ways to bind an event

    - by XGreen
    There are various ways to bind events to elements in jquery .click , .bind, .live, .delegate, saving events data in .data etc which is the most superior method among these and why? wouldn't a single pattern like this be more beneficial? $('selector').bind({ event: 'click mouseover ...', keepAlive: (true, false, ...), trigfunction: (function() { // I run for click }, function() { // i run for mouseover }, function() { ///... }) });

  • Java-script object - get variable name

    - by Mikk
    Hi, To begin with, I'm not even sure, if it is the right way to do it. Let's say, i have script (jquery included) like this: foo = function() { this.bar = function() { alert('I\'m bar'); } this.test = function() { $('body').append('<a onclick="my_var.bar();">Click me</a>'); } this.test(); } var my_var = new foo(); Is there any way, i could make variable "my_var" dynamic inside function "foo". So I could do something like $('body').append('<a onclick="'+the_variable_which_im_assigned_to+'.bar();">Click me</a>'); Thank you

  • Resolve php "deadlock"

    - by Matt
    Hey all, I'm currently running into a situation that I guess would be called deadlock. I'm implementing a message service that calls various object methods.. it's quite similar to observer pattern.. Here's whats going on: Dispatcher.php Dispatcher.php <? class Dispatcher { ... public function message($name, $method) { // Find the object based on the name $object = $this->findObjectByName($name); // Slight psuedocode.. for ease of example if($this->not_initialized($object)) $object = new $object(); // This is where it locks up. } return $object->$method(); ... } class A { function __construct() { $Dispatcher->message("B", "getName"); } public function getName() { return "Class A"; } } class B { function __construct() { // Assume $Dispatcher is the classes $Dispatcher->message("A", "getName"); } public function getName() { return "Class B"; } } ?> It locks up when neither object is initialized. It just goes back and forth from message each other and no one can be initialized. Any help would be immensely helpful.. Thanks! Matt Mueller

  • Mapping over sequence with a constant

    - by Hendekagon
    If I need to provide a constant value to a function which I am mapping to the items of a sequence, is there a better way than what I'm doing at present: (map my-function my-sequence (cycle [my-constant-value])) where my-constant-value is a constant in the sense that it's going to be the same for the mappings over my-sequence, although it may be itself a result of some function further out. I get the feeling that later I'll look at what I'm asking here and think it's a silly question because if I structured my code differently it wouldn't be a problem, but well there it is!

  • delete row from result set in web sql with javascript

    - by Kaijin
    I understand that the result set from web sql isn't quite an array, more of an object? I'm cycling through a result set and to speed things up I'd like to remove a row once it's been found. I've tried "delete" and "splice", the former does nothing and the latter throws an error. Here's a piece of what I'm trying to do, notice the delete on line 18: function selectFromReverse(reverseRay,suggRay){ var reverseString = reverseRay.toString(); db.transaction(function (tx) { tx.executeSql('SELECT votecount, comboid FROM counterCombos WHERE comboid IN ('+reverseString+') AND votecount>0', [], function(tx, results){ processSelectFromReverse(results,suggRay); }); }, function(){onError}); } function processSelectFromReverse(results,suggRay){ var i = suggRay.length; while(i--){ var j = results.rows.length; while(j--){ console.log('searching'); var found = 0; if(suggRay[i].reverse == results.rows.item(j).comboid){ delete results.rows.item(j); console.log('found'); found++; break; } } if(found == 0){ console.log('lost'); } } }

  • emacs windows, distribute the width through the frame

    - by Gauthier
    I used once a very nice emacs function that set all my windows (emacs windows, not frames) width evenly. If you open emacs and do C-x 3 twice in a row, you get three vertical windows. Then running the function I am looking for makes the width of these windows the same. I can't for the life of me find this function again. Wouldn't someone help me to: find the name of the function give me the keyboard shortcut if any tell me what I should have done to find the answer by myself Thanks!

  • help me understand JS execution on onclick event of button

    - by Anil Namde
    <input type="button" name="reset" onclick="return ValidateValue(); __doPostBack('ApplyBtn','')" /> The above is the code generated for asp server button button control on browser. Now my query is that irrespective of ValidateValue() returning true/false __doPostBack('ApplyBtn','') function is not showing any effect for me. My understanding is that string passed to onclick acts like function body, and return will from first function will return control preventing second function from execution. Is that correct ? Please provide helpful inputs.

  • How to use VBA to colour pie chart

    - by Timon Heinomann
    I have the following code in which the code tries to create a bubble chart with pie charts as the bubbles. As in this version colour themes are used to create a different colour in each pie chart (bulbble) in the function part I have the problem that it works depending on the paths to the colour paletts. Is there an easy way to make the function in a way that it works independently of those paths either by coding a colour for each pie chart segment or by using standardize paths (probably not possible, not preferable). Sub PieMarkers() Dim chtMarker As Chart Dim chtMain As Chart Dim intPoint As Integer Dim rngRow As Range Dim lngPointIndex As Long Dim thmColor As Long Dim myTheme As String Application.ScreenUpdating = False Set chtMarker = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("chtMarker").Chart Set chtMain = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("chtMain").Chart Set chtMain = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("chtMain").Chart Set rngRow = Range(ThisWorkbook.Names("PieChartValues").RefersTo) For Each rngRow In Range("PieChartValues").Rows chtMarker.SeriesCollection(1).Values = rngRow ThisWorkbook.Theme.ThemeColorScheme.Load GetColorScheme(thmColor) chtMarker.Parent.CopyPicture xlScreen, xlPicture lngPointIndex = lngPointIndex + 1 chtMain.SeriesCollection(1).Points(lngPointIndex).Paste thmColor = thmColor + 1 Next lngPointIndex = 0 Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub Function GetColorScheme(i As Long) As String Const thmColor1 As String = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 15\Theme Colors\Blue Green.xml" Const thmColor2 As String = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 15\Theme Colors\Orange Red.xml" Select Case i Mod 2 Case 0 GetColorScheme = thmColor1 Case 1 GetColorScheme = thmColor2 End Select End Function The code copies a single chart again and again on the bubbles. So I woudl like to alter the Function (now called Get colourscheme) into a fucntion that assigns a a unqiue rgb colour to each segment of each pie chart

  • Regexp for handling recursive arguments

    - by Matt
    Hi all, I'm a regexp novice, so I'm wondering what the regexp for the following: function {function arg1, arg2}, arg3 I'm looking to be able to just select the top-level arguments: {function arg1, arg2} & arg3 Ideally the response would be using preg_match in PHP, but almost any regexp would work fine. Thanks! Matt

  • How does the hash part in hash maps work?

    - by sub
    So there is this nice picture in the hash maps article on Wikipedia: Everything clear so far, except for the hash function in the middle. How can a function generate the right index from any string? Are the indexes integers in reality too? If yes, how can the function output 1 for John Smith, 2 for Lisa Smith, etc.?

  • passing unicode string from C# exe to C++ DLL

    - by Martin
    Using this function in my C# exe, I try to pass a Unicode string to my C++ DLL: [DllImport("Test.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern int xSetTestString(StringBuilder xmlSettings); This is the function on the C++ DLL side: __declspec(dllexport) int xSetTestString(char* pSettingsXML); Before calling the function in C#, I do a MessageBox.Show(string) and it displays all characters properly. On the C++ side, I do: OutputDebugStringW((wchar_t*)pString);, but that shows that the non-ASCII characters were replaced by '?'.

  • Efficient calculation of matrix cumulative standard deviation in r

    - by Abiel
    I recently posted this question on the r-help mailing list but got no answers, so I thought I would post it here as well and see if there were any suggestions. I am trying to calculate the cumulative standard deviation of a matrix. I want a function that accepts a matrix and returns a matrix of the same size where output cell (i,j) is set to the standard deviation of input column j between rows 1 and i. NAs should be ignored, unless cell (i,j) of the input matrix itself is NA, in which case cell (i,j) of the output matrix should also be NA. I could not find a built-in function, so I implemented the following code. Unfortunately, this uses a loop that ends up being somewhat slow for large matrices. Is there a faster built-in function or can someone suggest a better approach? cumsd <- function(mat) { retval <- mat*NA for (i in 2:nrow(mat)) retval[i,] <- sd(mat[1:i,], na.rm=T) retval[is.na(mat)] <- NA retval } Thanks.

  • how to modify this jquery syntax

    - by Gandalf StormCrow
    Hi all, this example below works when hover event is trigered and when its not, its working for elements already in DOM, but when element created dynamically it doesn't work, I realize I need to use jQuery live() or delegate() for this, the thing is I tried to modify it and its not producing the results as expected, here is the working code : $(".sidebar li").hover( function(){ $(this).css("background-color", "#F9F4D0"); $(this).append($('<button class="promoter" type="button" title="Active promotion"></button>')); }, function(){ $(this).css("background-color", "#F9FAFA"); $(this).children("button").remove(); } ); Here is the bit when I wanted to add live but it's not producing correct results : $(".sidebar li").live('hover', function(){ $(this).css("background-color", "#F9F4D0"); $(this).append($('<button class="promoter" type="button" title="Active promotion"></button>')); }, function(){ $(this).css("background-color", "#F9FAFA"); $(this).children("button").remove(); } ); Where did I made mistake, thank you
