• Setup Windows Media Player 11 to stream from TVersity

  I've got TVersity installed on a Windows 2003 server box (work had an extra license that they donated to let me install at home to get some practice setting up/administering a domain etc.) I found out that Windows Media Player 11 won't install on Windows 2003, but installed TVersity instead and streaming to my 360 is working great. Problem is that I don't know how to setup streaming to any other PC on the network. All of the PCs have access to the shared network folder, but playing from there doesn't stream and the stutter is pretty bad. Is there a way to setup Windows Media Player 11 or another player to stream from TVersity?

• Replicate GAE Datastore On A Server LAN in Java

  There may be instances wherein one Company Client may not have internet connection on their vicinity. Either their Internet Service Provider currently experience a down time or there are some other problems involving the network, but not their LAN. GAE seems to be needing a connection at all times in the internet. I only need GAE Datastore. I'm thinking about a different application. Creating a Java Swing Client, for instance, and connecting to the Office Server via HRD of GAE Datastore. When I tried to check on the solutions for Java, it does not say anything about uploading all data and I do not need the App. I just need the GAE Datastore. In Java GAE, only indexes can be able to be manipulated. So, is there any tricks/ideas that you can use HRD with GAE Datastore on Java with an Internal Office Server combined? This way, it may provide service even during network down times. (Can somebody create me a tag of gae-datastore, please.)

• Getting 0x80070043 error when accessing Samba share from Windows 7

  I created a Samba share on my new Ubuntu 10.04 machine. When I try to access it from a Windows 7 client, I get network error 0x80070043 (The network path not found). However, I get this error when I click on the share in the Windows Explorer, so it seems that Windows does find the path. I already enabled NTLMv1, disabled 128bit security and made sure that NetBIOS is running. I briefly disabled the Windows firewall, it didn't make a difference. What could be the problem?

• Clonezilla-SE with another DHCP Server in LAN

  I want to install Clonezilla-Server(192.168.1.100) in a network that already have a DHCP Server (dd-wrt with dnsmasq - 192.168.1.1). I've installed Clonezilla-SE on ubuntu Server 10.10, once installed and configured Clonezilla Server i've removed the DHCP-Server and set pxe server address in dnsmasq configuration on DHCP Server : dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,,192.168.1.100 When i try to start from PXE a Computer in the network clonezilla start, but give me an error that the ipddress of the machine is not given by the clonezilla server and can't continue ... Someone has already tried to configure Clonezilla-SE in a similar enviroment? Is there some configuration on DRBL server of Clonezilla that i need to do ?

• Replay UDP Packet Capture

  I have a UDP packet capture which was streamed from Port1 on IP1 to Port2 on IP2 on network N1. I need to replay these packets on another network N2 from Port3 on IP3 to Port4 on IP4. I need to know what software to use in order to do this and how I would go about replaying these packets so that I can detect/capture them again in N2. So far, I've tried strictly replaying these packets using a program called Colasoft Packet Player, with little luck. I'd appreciate any help on this. Thank you in advance

• Rsync like windows backup tool

  Hi, I need to backup some windows machines and have been unable to find the proper tool. What I need is a tool that does efficient copying of changed files to a windows network location, like Rsync does. In turn, the server will then back that up using rdiff-backup, a tool which does very clever incremental backups. Right now I'm using windows' 7 included backup feature, but I really don't get that. It's too much off-topic, but it doesn't suffice (seems buggy as well). I looked into Amanda, but as soon as it wanted to install MySQL, I aborted. I also tried Deltacopy, but unfortunately, I don't remember what the problem with that was... Any advice for an rsync like tool that just does daily syncs to a network location?

• Exposing warnings\errors from data objects (that are also list returned)

  I'm exposing Data objects via service oriented assembly (which on future usages might become a WCF service). The data object is tree designed, as well as formed from allot of properties.Moreover, some services return one objects, others retrieve a list of them (thus disables throwing exceptions). I now want to expose data flow warnings and wondering what's the best way to do it having to things to consider: (1) seperation (2) ease of access. On the one hand, i want the UI team to be able to access a fields warnings (or errors) without having them mapping the field names to an external source but on the other hand, i don't want the warnings "hanged" on the object itself (as i don't see it a correct design). I tought of creating a new type of wrapper for each field, that'll expose events and they'll have to register the one's they care about (but totally not sure) I'll be happy to hear your thoughts. Could you please direct me to a respectful design pattern ? what dp will do best here ? Thank you very much!

All in all my app took 10 times longer than I think that it should have, it is almost impossible to look the source code and tell what's going on with the classes, and may or may not have unused methods that I'll never be able to find... To be more specific, I only need the following support for following packages/softwares/components. wxPython C Network Support Linux Utilities Vi File System(fdisk/parted, ntfsprogs etc) Basic(cp, mount/umount, mkdir etc) The application will run from a live CD. Currently i am using Fedora 12 with Gnome for live CD. Currently the size of live image is around 350 MB. The size of application is hardly 1 MB. I don't need anything else except above mentioned. Just my application and supporting packages, no desktop etc. So, I need a Lightweight Linux image as smaller as possible providing all the above mentioned packages/components. I am considering the following distributions: Xfce LXDE Fluxbox Enlightenment Any ideas/suggestions?

• Correct configuration of multiple Analytics trackers per page, spanning domains and subdomains

  My company publishes sites on a somewhat convoluted domain structure, and we're having trouble getting accurate numbers in Analytics when we have multiple trackers on the page. We publish under two brands (A, B). Each brand has a "national" site at A.com, B.com, as well as per-city "local" sites at eg. ny.A.com, la.A.com, sf.A.com, etc. Right now we're trying to track in these dimensions: Full network (A.com, ny.A.com, B.com, la.B.com, etc.) All sites in brand (A.com, ny.A.com, la.A.com, etc.) Inidividual site (ny.A.com) Here are the commands we're using on an individual site: _gaq.push( ['t0._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXX-1'], // full network ['t0._setDomainName', 'none'], ['t0._setAllowLinker', true], ['t0._trackPageview'], ['t1._trackPageLoadTime'], ['t1._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXX-2'], // brand ['t1._setDomainName', 'none'], ['t1._setAllowLinker', true], ['t1._trackPageview'], ['t1._trackPageLoadTime'], ['t2._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXX-3'], // individual ['t2._setDomainName', 'none'], ['t2._setAllowLinker', true], ['t2._trackPageview'], ['t2._trackPageLoadTime'] ); We send the same commands to each account because we've had strange results when trackers were configured differently in the past. However, right now we're seeing inflated numbers for uniques on all three trackers. What is the correct way to configure this setup? Thanks for your time.

• Checksum Transformation

  The Checksum Transformation computes a hash value, the checksum, across one or more columns, returning the result in the Checksum output column. The transformation provides functionality similar to the T-SQL CHECKSUM function, but is encapsulated within SQL Server Integration Services, for use within the pipeline without code or a SQL Server connection. As featured in The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit by Joy Mundy and Warren Thornthwaite from the Kimbal Group. Have a look at the book samples especially Sample package for custom SCD handling. All input columns are passed through the transformation unaltered, those selected are used to generate the checksum which is passed out through a single output column, Checksum. This does not restrict the number of columns available downstream from the transformation, as columns will always flow through a transformation. The Checksum output column is in addition to all existing columns within the pipeline buffer. The Checksum Transformation uses an algorithm based on the .Net framework GetHashCode method, it is not consistent with the T-SQL CHECKSUM() or BINARY_CHECKSUM() functions. The transformation does not support the following Integration Services data types, DT_NTEXT, DT_IMAGE and DT_BYTES. ChecksumAlgorithm Property There ChecksumAlgorithm property is defined with an enumeration. It was first added in v1.3.0, when the FrameworkChecksum was added. All previous algorithms are still supported for backward compatibility as ChecksumAlgorithm.Original (0). Original - Orginal checksum function, with known issues around column separators and null columns. This was deprecated in the first SQL Server 2005 RTM release. FrameworkChecksum - The hash function is based on the .NET Framework GetHash method for object types. This is based on the .NET Object.GetHashCode() method, which unfortunately differs between x86 and x64 systems. For that reason we now default to the CRC32 option. CRC32 - Using a standard 32-bit cyclic redundancy check (CRC), this provides a more open implementation. The component is provided as an MSI file, however to complete the installation, you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox by hand. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component?, just select Checksum from the SSIS Data Flow Items list in the Choose Toolbox Items window. Please choose the version to match your SQL Server version, or you can install multiple versions and use them side by side if you have more than one version of SQL Server installed. • Protecting Windows SMTP service against the spam

  Hi, I'm trying to use a Windows SMTP service on Windows Server 2008, but I can't understand how to secure it. Basically, if I open firewall for local network IPs only for %windir%\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exe and keep Connection and Relay settings of SMTP Virtual Server to "All except the list below" (with an empty list), a few minutes later I see spam appearing in Queue directory. (Why? Isn't firewall intended to block this?) Now, if I set Connection or Relay to "Only the list below", specifying the range of local IPs, I can't use the SMTP server nevermore (a "Unable to read data from the transport connection: net_io_connectionclosed." exception is thrown). So what is the way to get rid of spam from internet but let send mails from local network?

• Some sites won't load on Ubuntu/Mint

  I have a REALLY weird problem with either my network or my OS. Last week I've suddenly had difficulties loading some websites or even more odd some parts of different websites. For example, I could load gmail.com, login and view the list of emails in my inbox but when I clicked one of them it would just time out. Another example is http://www.ynet.co.il, I can view the home page but going into any one of the articles fails (times out). I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Opera, all fail the same way. If I take a URL of a page I cannot load via the browser and try to wget it though the console I get the file just fine. I've formatted my machine (Used to run Ubuntu 13.04) and installed Mint Linux this time, it worked fine for a few days and now, again, having the same exact issues. Important to note that I have other machines connected either directly or via Wi-Fi to the router and they are all working fine (two win7 machines and 1 raspberry pi). Another strange behavior is that I can ftp or ssh to remote machines but cannot send files via ftp (times out) even if I set passive mode ON and when using ssh I can do just about anything but I cannot paste text into the remote machine, for example if I nano a file on the remote machine and try to paste anything from my clipboard it freezes. What I've tried so far: Disable IPv6 on the networking admin (and on firefox disabling ipv6 on the about:config page) Changing the port and the network cable I went to the store and bought a new standalone PCIe network adapter Connected my win7 laptop using the same cable and router port (sites that were not working on my Mint are working just fine on the win7 machine) Loaded Mint from a livecd, got the same result Tried changing the MTU (was 1500, tried 1492) Some observations: When I clear my browser cache and go to facebook.com for example, the homepage loads but I fail to load any profile/group page. If I refresh facebook.com homepage a couple of times it stops and fails to load until I clear my browser cache. I changed the chrome cache folder permissions to 0777 but that did not help. When I run netstat -n I see A LOT of connections that are in 'FIN_WAIT' mode (I'm guessing that's when I try to refresh pages that are not working and timing out), I have no idea what it means or if it helps anyone figure out what's wrong. The sites that are not loading correctly are always that same, they don't vary or anything and they fail to load exactly the same way on all three browsers that I've tried. When I Googled 'Ubuntu some sites not loading' I see a huge amount of complaints just like mine, but none of them that I could find actually says what the problem is or how they fixed it. • Vista laptop won't connect to airport extreme

  Our previous router died, and to replace it I procured an apple airport extreme. My mac, my wrt54gs (with ddwrt acting as a bridge) and a linux machine have had no problem connecting to the wireless. None of the wired clients are having a problem obviously. The problem is one of my roommates can not connect. That's not strictly true. He can connect to the network, and will, infact, get a dhcp lease. However he cannot get any packets out. Can't ping the router, can't access any web sites, nothing. However he's fine if we switch to an unsecured network. Which is obviously not acceptable. The airport only allows for 'wpa/wpa2 personal' and 'wpa2 personal' (and of course the enterprise versions there of) I keep reading about this problem in multiple spots on the web, but never see any actual answers... Anyway the laptop: hp/compaq cq50-215nr vista home premium wireess card: atheros 5007 airport is simultaneos dualband II

• Get source and destination of outbound traffic in pfSense

  I'm looking at the traffic graph in pfSense (Version 1.2.2), which we're using as a router / NAT / ect on our network. Recently, I'm seeing a sudden, constant spike of 15 - 30kbps traffic outbound, that is unusual for our network (normally its below 2kbps, we're mostly all inbound traffic) Is there any way to determine what the source of this traffic is, or where it's going? (Just an internal IP address for source, and external IP address for destination would be all I need) I've already tried switching the traffic graph to 'LAN' and watching the host list on the right side, but it seems ... flakey. The numbers it shows seem to fade in and out at random, and the values never add up to anywhere near the graph values. • Netgear router-speed problem after XBox use

  When my son is at my place at the weekend, he plays XBox Live over the internet, using my wireless network (Netgear 'g' type router). This usually thrashes & crashes the router to the extent I have to hard-boot it to get it working again. However, after this weekend, on my two laptops, I'm left with the problem that the router is working, but I'm only getting 0.38Mbps out of it, at all times of the day. I've tried hard-booting the router, but no difference. Could this be a knock-on effect of the Xbox use? I can't believe the router could be damaged, but working slower? Is that possible? Tiscali haven't come back to me yet on any 'network' issues. Thanks in advance

  I am doing some research to prepare some web development environment for our small(10ppl and growing) new office. User Case: For each new web project usually we create new alias on an Apache server someproject.companywebsite From my understanding in order to see this website locally for all the rest of our team(including mangers and directors) they will need to edit hosts file (e.g. "192.168.1.10 someproject.companywebsite"), and like that each time for a new project(can be 2-5 each week) Solution: And I looking for a solution how to edit this hosts file only once and distribute it over all mac machines in our network at once or much more flawlessly than poking around with each machine every time over and over again. Is that possible? Or that a very wrong way of doing that? Perhaps we better set up own local dns server and point to it our router? Though own dns server a bit concerns me because of might be some network interruption and others lags, if you know what I mean. Or perhaps there are another workflows for that? What's the best way for such things? So I'll be so grateful to hear some advices from experienced admins.   I'd like to find a small linux box with the following specifications: Small (mini-ITX size is OK) Fanless Runs Debian At least two gigabit network interfaces WLAN that supports "host ap" with hostapd + mac80211 in AP mode Can encrypt AES at least 10 megabytes per second Total cost $300 or less Solutions from multiple parts also accepted - I can buy an external network card etc. and build the box myself if the components are available. If you don't know about the "host ap" thing, just suggest your solution, I'll find out if I can get that resolved. If I can't get all that, I can possibly skip the "runs Debian" part, and I can definitely skip the hostapd part if the box can be a wireless access point with multiple ESSIDs out of the box. Something like Asus RT-N16 is close - doesn't run Debian easily, and probably doesn't encrypt AES fast enough. Something like Zotac ZBOX HD-ID11 is also close - no idea which WLAN card it has and it lacks second gigabit interface, but otherwise nice.

• Oracle Sequences

  Reminder to myself - SQL Server has nice index columns directly tied to their tables. Oracle has sequences that are islands to themselves. select seq_name.currval from dual; select seq_name.nextval from dual; currval - return current number at top of sequence nextval - increment sequence by 1, return new number   therefore - to create functionality in oracle similar to an index column - OPTION A) - Create insert trigger: CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER dept_bir BEFORE INSERT ON departments FOR EACH ROW WHEN (new.id IS NULL) BEGIN SELECT dept_seq.NEXTVAL INTO :new.id FROM dual; END; This will handle creating a unique identity, but will not necessarily inform process flow of identity without additional logic. OPTION B) - Select indentity into temp variable, insert whole item into tab **** When attemptint to query currval, the below error was being thrown - SELECT seq_name.currval from dual; ERROR : TABLE OR VIEW DOES NOT EXIST *** Although Oracle sys tables may have access to the sequences, that isn't to say the Oracle user may have access to those sequences - verify permissions when the system can't see object that are being reported in the object explorer.

• OpenOffice Calc doesn't show up in the alt-tab window switcher

  I just upgraded to ubuntu 12.04, and it's mostly working. My biggest problem so far: OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc doesn't show up under the task switcher. When I pres alt-tab to change windows, I can see all my windows except for any OpenOffice documents I have open. If I minimize other windows, then I can get to my Calc documents, but Alt-Tab just doesn't work. It only seems to be a problem with Calc. Writer and Impress both work fine. I do a lot of work in spreadsheets, so this is really messing up my flow. Any thoughts on how to fix it?
