  • Saving a single entity instead of the entire context - revisited

    I’m looking for a way to have fine grained control over what is saved using Entity Framework, rather than the whole ObjectContext.SaveChanges(). My scenario is pretty straight forward, and I’m quite amazed not catered for in EF – pretty basic in NHibernate and all other data access paradigms I’ve seen. I’m generating a bunch of data (in a WPF UI) and allowing the user to fine tune what is proposed and choose what is actually committed to the database. For the proposed entities I’m: getting a bunch of reference entities (eg languages) via my objectcontext, creating the proposed entities and assigning these reference entities to them (as navigation properties), so by virtue of their relationship to the reference entities they’re implicitly added to the objectconext Trying to create & save individual entites based on the proposed entities. I figure this should be really simple & trivial but everything I’ve tried I’ve hit a brick wall, either I set up another objectcontext & add just the entity I need (it then tries to add the whole graph and fails as it’s on another objectcontext). I’ve tried MergeOptions = NoTracking on my reference entities to try to get the Attach/AddObject not to navigate through these to create a graph, no avail. I've removed the navigation properties from the reference entities. I've tried AcceptAllChanges, that works but pretty useless in practice as I do still want to track & save other entities. In a simple test, I can create 2 of my proposed entities, AddObject the one I want to save and then Detach the one I dont then call SaveChanges, this works but again not great in practice. Following are a few links to some of the nifty ideas which in the end don’t help in the end but illustrate the complexity of EF for something so simple.   • popViewControllerAnimated doesn't update info iPhone SDK

    When I try to pop a view controller, it doesnt update info for the previous view. Example: I have a cell that displays text in a label in View1. When you click on the cell it goes to View2 (for example) When I choose an option in View2, popViewControllerAnimated is used to go back to View1, however, I want the label to now be updated with the new option in View1. My dilemma is that when I pop View2, the label in View1 does not update. Any ideas?     Most examples of a DCI Context are implemented as a Command pattern. When using Dependency Injection though, it's useful to have the dependencies injected in the constructor and send the parameters into the executing method.   • Adding linked table to Access 2003 while keeping ODBC connection info in MDB

    I have an Access 2003 database MDB where all of the tables exist as linked tables within SQL Server 2005. The MDB file contains all of the ODBC information that points to the correct SQL Server and log-on credentials (trusted connection). What I would like to do is add a new linked table to the MDB file however I am not sure how to go about specifying the ODBC connection information. When I try to add a new linked table I keep getting prompted to locate or create a DSN file. I don't want to have to create a new DSN entry on every machine, rather I would like all that information stored within the Access MDB file itself. In the existing database I can "hover" over the table names and see the ODBC connection info as a tool-tip. All I need to do is add another linked table using the same connection information. I do have access to the SQL Server where the tables are linked to,. I have already created the new table I wanted to add. I just need to find a way to link to it.

    This occurred after a Trojan incident. We managed to get the Trojan cleaned off the computer, but now we can't Right click the desktop. We have tried changing HKCU/software/microsoft/windows/current version/policies/explorer/noviewcontextmenu in the registry, and group policy user configuration/administrative templates/windows explorer/remove windows explorers default context menu, but neither worked. How do we reenable the right-click menu for the desktop? (it works everywhere else)

    It's always been hard for me to add a music folder with subfolders to Windows Media Player's playlist. I double click a file in the folder (or click on WMP shortcut), WMP opens, and I drag the other files or folders manually to the playlist. Isn't there an option to add a right-click context menu item that can automatically add all audio contents in a folder (with subfolders) to WMP playlist?

    An application I use regularly is command-line based, and I would like to add the most used commands in the Windows Explorer's context menu that pops up when right-clicking on a file or folder. From what I read, a lot of programs in that menu are COM applications. Is there an easier way to add commands to the menu, as an alternative to opening a DOS box and typing commands? Ideally, it should work for XP, Vista, and 7.

The use of this context can result in unexpected behavior for serialization, casting and dependency resolution. In almost all cases, it is recommended that the LoadFrom context be avoided. This can be done by installing assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache or in the ApplicationBase directory and using Assembly.Load when explicitly loading assemblies. It's nightmare for me...!!!     I,m trying to work through and test a Voice Recognition example based on the VoiceRecognition.java example at http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/app/VoiceRecognition.html but when click on the button to create the activity, I get a dialog that says Connection problem. My Manifest file is using the Internet Permission, and I understand it passes the to the Google Servers. Do I need to do anything else to use this.   • WPF - Redrawing a Context Menu when Items change?

    I have a ItemsControl in a ScrollViewer, and when the items exceed the width of the ScrollViewer they are put into a ContextMenu and shown as a DropDown instead. My problem is that when the Context Menu is first loaded, it saves the saves the size of the Menu and does not redraw when more commands get added/removed. For example, a panel has 3 commands. 1 is visible and 2 are in the Menu. Viewing the menu shows the 2 commands and draws the control, but then if you resize the panel so 2 are visible and only 1 command is in the menu, it doesn't redraw the menu to eliminate that second menu item. Or even worse, if you shrink the panel so that no commands are shown and all 3 are in the Menu, it will only show the top 2. Now when 'preSuggest' is called, it add a script to the header and circumvent the crossdomain problem. Now when the data is received back 'JSONcallback' is called. I can use the data, but when 'Suggest' is I can't use the this.keywords array or this.suggest_url. I think this is because 'JSONcallback' and 'Suggest' are called in a different context. How can I get this working?

  • Running out of memory with UIImage creation on an offscreen Bitmap Context by NSOperation

    I have an app with multiple UIView subclasses that acts as pages for a UIScrollView. UIViews are moved back and forth to provide a seamless experience to the user. No retain or release is involved in the process. The problem is that after a while I run out of memory. The number of the UIViews is static. CGImageRef and UIImage are created, retained and released correctly (or so it seems to me). Instruments does not show any leaks, just the free memory available dip constantly, rise a few times, and then dip even lower until the application is terminated. The app cycles through about 2-300 of the aforementioned pages before that, but I would expect to have the memory usage reach a more or less stable level of used memory after a bunch of pages have been already skimmed at fast speed or, since the images are up to 3MB in size, deplete way earlier. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

    I went through the dev portal provisioning process twice now trying to get it to work, but to no avail. I don't think it's the second half (signature is invalid), I think it actually may have to with my binary. I have a warning in xcode that isn't helping me because I don't know what to do about it. And honestly I don't know how relevant this information even is. But it says: "Check Dependencies: Warning: The copy bundle resources build phase contains target's info.plist" The app runs perfectly in the simulator, and I haven't made any changes to the info.plist since I submitted the app to Apple last week. (this is an update) any suggestions?

  • Is it possible to start an activity from a regular java class?

    In my ActionBarSherlock I have the same menu items for all activities, so it seems unwise to define onClick handlers in each activity - they all do the same. Instead I created a class called MyClickListener that implements com.actionbarsherlock.view.MenuItem.OnMenuItemClickListener, and in there I have a simple switch block that starts the appropriate activity. Problem is that Intent constructor's first argument is of type Context, and even when I pass this to MyClickListener's constructor, I can't start any activity. The same goes for every method that has a Context object as a parameter. Is there a way to work around it? What is a context object? Thanks

  • Strange WCF Error - IIS hosted - context being aborted

    I have a WCF service that does some document conversions and returns the document to the caller. When developing locally on my local dev server, the service is hosted on ASP.NET Development server, a console application invokes the operation and executes within seconds. When I host the service in IIS via a .svc file, two of the documents work correctly, the third one bombs out, it begins to construct the word document using the OpenXml Sdk, but then just dies. I think this has something to do with IIS, but I cannot put my finger on it. There are a total of three types of documents I generate. In a nutshell this is how it works SQL 2005 DB/IBM DB2 - WCF Service written by other developer to expose data. This service only has one endpoint using basicHttpBinding My Service invokes his service, gets the relevant data, uses the Open Xml Sdk to generate a Microsoft Word Document, saves it on a server and returns the path to the user. The word documents are no bigger than 100KB. I am also using basicHttpBinding although I have tried wsHttpBinding with the same results. What is amazing is how fast it is locally, and even more that two of the documents generate just fine, its the third document type that refuses to work. To the error message: An error occured while receiving the HTTP Response to http://myservername.mydomain.inc/MyService/Service.Svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP Protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the server shutting down). See server logs for more details. I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure out what is going on, I have tried everything, including changing the maxReceivedMessageSize, maxBufferSize, maxBufferPoolSize, etc etc to large values, I even included: <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="2097151" executionTimeout="120"/> To see maybe if IIS was choking because of that. Programatically the service does nothing special, it just constructs the word documents from the data using the Open Xml Sdk and like I said, locally all 3 documents work when invoked via a console app running locally on the asp.net dev server, i.e. http://localhost:3332/myService.svc When I host it on IIS and I try to get a Windows Forms application to invoke it, I get the error. I know you will ask for logs, so yes I have logging enabled on my Host. And there is no error in the logs, I am logging everything. Basically I invoke two service operations written by another developer. MyOperation calls - HisOperation1 and then HisOperation2, both of those calls give me complex types. I am going to look at his code tomorrow, because he is using LINQ2SQL and there may be some funny business going on there. He is using a variety of collections etc, but the fact that I can run the exact same document, lets call it "Document 3" within seconds when the service is being hosted locally on ASP WebDev Server is what is most odd, why would it run on scaled down Cassini and blow up on IIS? From the log it seems, after calling HisOperation1 and HisOperation2 the service just goes into la-la land dies, there is a application pool (w3wp.exe) error in the Windows Event Log. Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.1830, stamp 42435be1, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.3311, stamp 49c5225e, debug? 0, fault address 0x00015dfa. It's classified as .NET 2.0 Runtime error. Any help is appreciated, the lack of sleep is getting to me. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

I want to use jQuery so that when I click the H3, the image, or the paragraph inside the LIE(which are all information about a certain site), it would fade out the entire UL, then grab info about that site from our database. I think this requires AJAX but I don't have much experience with it. I'm also confused on how to use jQuery to write the new HTML after the information is grabbed.
