  Excel 07. I have two excel spreadsheets. Sheet1 has a few cells on it that I would like to be populated with a few cells from sheet2. This I want sheet1 to replicate this about 400 times for all employees in the agency. Here is the example. Sheet 1 Person name number1 number 2 number 3 Cell cell cell cell Sheet 2 Information sheet.   I would like my code to update contact details (like name, phone number, email, organization details, etc) in the android contact book. I was successful in modifying a few (name, phone number and email to be specific) but not all. • A shortest path problem with superheroes and intergalactic journeys

  You are a super-hero in the year 2222 and you are faced with this great challenge: starting from your home planet Ilop you must try to reach Acinhet or else your planet will be destroyed by evil green little monsters. To do this you are given a map of the universe: there are N planets and M inter-planetary connections ( bidirectional ) that bind these planets. Each connection requires a certain time and a certain amount of fuel in order for you to cover the connection from one planet to another. The total time spent going from one planet to another is obtained by multiplying the time past to cover each connection between all the planets you go through. There are some "key planets", that allow you to refuel if you arrive on those certain "key planets". A "key planet" is the planet with the property that if it disappears the road between at least two planets would be lost.(In the example posted below with the input/output files such a "key planet" is 2 because without it the road to 7 would be lost) When you start your mission you are given the possibility of choosing between K ships each with its own maximum fuel capacity. The goal is to find the SHORTEST TIME CONSUMING path but also choose the ship with the minimum fuel capacity that can cover that shortest path(this means that if more ships can cover the shortest path you choose the one with the minimum fuel capacity). Because the minimum time can be a rather large number (over long long int) you are asked to provide only the last 6 digits of the number. • Create Sum of calculated rows in Microsoft Reporting Services

  This seems like it should be simple but I can't find anything yet. In Reporting Services I have a table with up to 6 rows that all have calculated values and dynamic visibility. I would like to sum these rows. Basically I have a number of invoice items and want to make a total. I can't change anything on the DB side since my stored procedures are used elsewhere in the system. Each row pulls data from a different dataset as well, so I can't do a sum of the dataset. Can I sum all the rows with a table footer? Similarly to totaling a number of rows in Excel? It seems very redundant to put my visibility expression from each row into my footer row to calculate the sum.

• Socket : can an asynchronous Receive returns without reading all the bytes I asked for?

  Hi; I was reading an article on Vadym Stetsiak's blog about how to transfer variable length messages with async sockets (url: http://vadmyst.blogspot.com/2008/03/part-2-how-to-transfer-fixed-sized-data.html). He says : What to expect when multiple messages arrive at the server? While dealing with multiple messages one has to remember that receive operation can return arbitrary number of bytes being read from the net. Typically that size is from 0 to specified buffer length in the Receive or BeginReceive methods. So, even if I tell BeginReceive to read 100 bytes, it may read less than that and returns??? I am developing a network-enabled software (TCP/IP), and I always receive the same exact number of bytes I asked for. I don't even understand the logic : why would Receive completes asynchronously if it didn't get every byte I asked for ... just keep waiting. Maybe it has something to do with IP vs TCP? • Newbie question - MySQL index size

  I've just started to investigating how I should optimize my database. Indexing seems to be a good idea, so I want to index a VARCHAR column, the engine is MyISAM. From what I've read, I understand that an index is limited to a size of 1000 bytes. A VARCHAR character is 3 bytes in size. Does this mean that if I want to index a VARCHAR column with 50 rows, I need an index prefix of 6 characters? I came to that number by dividing 1000 with the row number 50, then the bytesize per character that is 3. 1000/50/3=6,66. It seems a little complicated, so I'm just wondering if I'm thinking right? It seems weird to me that you'd only be able to index 333 rows in a VARCHAR column, using a prefix of 1 character.

• Alert on moving to a different page of a grid when user changes contents of textboxes in a Grid

  In a ASP.NET application I have a paging RadGrid which shows up textbox in each row. Outside the grid, there is an OK button to save the content of all the textbox. If user changes text in any one or more of the textbox and without clicking on the "OK" button, tries to move to a different page number (of the grid by clicking on the page number), he should be prompted for confirmation of save or cancel the changes. I am guessing that one can write a Javascript function which would look for any form input control (textbox in my case) and detect changes and If there are changes, would prompt the user. However, I am not sure where I can call this function from? Any suggestion on this or a better way to achieve this would be appreciated. I am using RadGrid but I guess this should be applicable to GridView as well.

• SQL - Finding continuous entries of a given size.

  I am working on a system for reserving seats. A user inputs how many seats they wish to reserve and the database will return a set of suggested seats that are not previously reserved that matches the number of seats being reserved. For instance if I had the table: SeatID | Reserved ----------------- 1 | false 2 | true 3 | false 4 | false 5 | false 6 | true 7 | true 8 | false 9 | false 10 | true And the user inputs that they wish to reserve 2 seats, I would expect the query to return that seats (3, 4), (4, 5), and (8, 9) are not reserved and match the given number of input seats. Seats are organized into sections and rows. Continuous seats must be in the same row. How would I go about structuring this query to work in such a way that it finds all available continuous seats that match the given input?

• How to set which version of the VC++ runtime Visual Studio 2005 targets

  I have an application that contains a VC++ project (along with C# projects). Previously, (i.e. during the last year or so) when a build has been done, Visual Studio 2005 appears to be targeting the VC++ runtime version 8.0.50727.762. At least, that is what the Assembly.dll.intermediate.manifest file is telling me: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes'?> <assembly xmlns='urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1' manifestVersion='1.0'> <dependency> <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.CRT' version='8.0.50727.762' processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> </dependentAssembly> </dependency> </assembly> This version number matches the Visual Studio 2005 version number. The application worked fine when deployed to the webserver. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and all was right with the world. Now something has changed. I don't know what - a security patch, an obscure Visual Studio setting or something. I can absolutely guarantee that nothing at all has changed in the solution - we zip up the entire contents of the solution as part of the build process and archive it. I have unzipped a number of these to a temp directory, verified that the previous manifest file refers to 8.0.50727.762, recompiled using exactly the same command at the command line and then verified that the new manifest file now refers to 8.0.50727.4053. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 77646-008-0000007-41610. Why would Visual Studio revert to a previous version of the VC++ runtime? How do I specify which version it should use? What is going wrong here?

• Where should I put WPF specific code when using MVVM?

  I'm just getting up to speed on MVVM, but all the examples I've seen so far are binding View controls to simple non-WPF specific data types such as strings and ints. However in our app I want to be able to set a button's border brush based on a number in the Model. At the moment, I translate the number into a brush in the ViewModel to keep the View XAML only, but is that right? I don't like putting WPF specific code in the ViewModel, but equally I don't like the idea of putting code-behind on my View panel. Which is the best way? Thanks

  Hi, I have a desktop application that needs to upload/download images to/from service computer over TCP Protocol. At first, I stored images in file system, but I need to in MS SQL DB to compare which solution is better. Number of images is over half a million. I don't know yet will there be any limitation on size of a photo. If you have done smth like that, please, write what your opinion upon this question. Which one is faster, more safe? Which of them works better with this number of photos? If I'll store on DB, do I need to store images apart from all other tables which I use for my application and which type works better - image or varbinary on DB?..and so on. Thank you.

• .NET Excel Interop - Why aren't my Footers displaying in my printed output file?

  I'm working with C# and Office 2007's Excel Interop API. I'm opening an Excel file, applying some formatting and then sending it to the printer. I've got a problem, though. The Footer text doesn't appear to be printing. If I check the PageSetup.RightFooter property, I can see the expected Page Number in the Footer. That Page Number doesn't appear anywhere on the printed output sheet. When I print using Excel, though, they appear. Does anyone know why my Footer text is not appearing? Here's my code.   Hi all, In a web application I'm working on using Spring 2.5.6.SEC01, I essentially have an Integer field that takes a number to determine which page to scroll to. The requirements changed, and we no longer want to display an error message, but simply ignore the user's input if they enter an invalid number, say "adfadf". I was reading that you can do that via: TypeMismatch.property=Some New Error Message However, after having tried that, we are still getting the original error message: java.lang.Integer.TypeMismatch=... I only want to disable this message for that given property. How can I do that? I still want binding to occur automatically, I just don't want to hear about it now. Walter

• PHP/MySQL Database application development tool

  I am an amateur PHP coder, and have built a couple of dozen projects from scratch (including fairly simple e-commerce systems with user authentication, PayPal integration etc - all coded by hand from a clean page. Have also done a price comparison engine that takes data from multiple sites etc.). But I am no expert with OO and other such advanced techniques - I just have a fairly decent grasp of the basics of data processing, logic, functions and trying to optimize code as much as possible. I just want to make this clear so you have some idea of where I'm coming from. I have a couple of fairly large new projects on my plate for corporate clients - both require bespoke database-driven applications with complex relationships, many tables and lots of different front-end functions to manipulate that data for the internal staff in these companies. I figured building these systems from scratch would probably be a huge waste of time. Instead, there must be tools out there that will allow me to construct MySQL databases and build the pages with things like pagination, action buttons, table construction etc. Some kind of database abstraction layer, or system generator, if you will. What tool do you recommend for such a purpose for someone at my level? Open source would be great, but I don't mind paying for something decent as well. Thanks for any advice.

Eliminate any rows that is NOT duplicate (not everybody in this file has been admitted again) and compare the dates to get the ReAdmitdate and ReDischargedate I dumped the data into a SQL table and trying to compare the dates to figure out "ReAdmitdate" and "ReDischargedate" any help is appreciated. • Performance monitor shows 4294967293 sessions active

  I have an ASP.Net 3.5 website running in IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 R2. It is a relatively small internal application that probably serves less than ten users at any given time. The server has 4 Gig of memory and shows that 3+ Gig is available while the site is active. Just minutes after restarting the web application Performance monitor shows that there is a whopping 4,294,967,293 sessions active! I am fairly certain that this number is incorrect; at the time this reading there were only 100 requests to the website. Has anyone else experienced this kind odd behavior from perf mon? Any ideas on how to get an accurate reading? UPDATE: After running for about an hour the number of active sessions has dropped by 4. So it does seem to be responding to sessions timing out.

• Can "\Device\NamedPipe\\Win32Pipes" handles cause "Too many open files" error?

  Continuing from this question: When I am trying to do fopen on Windows, I get a "Too many open files" error. I tried to analyze, how many open files I have, and seems like not too much. But when I executed Process Explorer, I noticed that I have many open handles with similar names: "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e2", "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e3", etc. I see that the number of these handles is exactly equal to the number of the iterations that my program executed, before it returned "Too many open files" and stopped. I am looking for an answer, what are these handles, and could they actually cause the "Too many open files" error? In my program I am loading files from remote drive, and I am creating TCP/IP connections. Could one of these operations create these handles?

• OpenAL - determine maximum sources

  Is there an API that allows you to define the maximum number of OpenAL "sources" allowed by the underlying sound hardware? Searching the internet, I found 2 recommendations : keep generating OpenAL sources till you get an error. However, there is a note in FreeSL (OpenAL wrapper) stating that this is "very bad and may even crash the library" assume you only have 16; why would anyone ever require more? (!) The second recommendation is even adopted by FreeSL. So, is there a common API to define the number of simultaneous "voices" supported? Thank you for your time, Bill
