    hi, I'm emulating Ubuntu using VMWare and I've upgraded it to last stable 10.04 version. When I boot the system I get this error (below the Ubuntu logo): "an error occurred while mounting /mnt/hgfs" I made a screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72686/mountError.png So I have to click S to continue and the the OS seems to work well.     I just installed my fresh Windows 7 and so far are not very happy with it. Much more problems than with Windows Vista. The latest in a series: My Task Scheduler crashes right at the moment when I boot my system. When I check the Event Viewer it tells me that the scheduler crashes with a critical error: EventID: 404 ErrorDescription: RpcServerUseProtseq:ncacn_ip_tcp ResultCode: 1721 I found this entry in TechNet, but there is no "Internet" Key in my registry: "Task Scheduler service has encountered RPC initialization error..."

And i need to test it before we can use it on the production system. there is a french site which made it possible to download a virtualbox disk image but the documentaion about how to use this image is very poor or in french, so i can't read it. Has anybody ever been successfully virtualized a qnap NAS and could tell me exactly how this can be acclomlish?

  • SYSPART hidden folder in Windows 7

    We had a user with a Lenovo G-series laptop getting a STOP error on boot. We reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium using non-OEM media and restored the user's files from backup. We are now seeing a hidden folder in the root of the C:\ drive called SYSPART which appears to contain a copy of the contents of the C:\ drive - so while the user has 160 GB of files, the drive is using 320 GB because of this folder. What is it, and is it safe to delete?

  • XAMPPErrorDomain error 1 for changing MySQL data dirs

    Hi, I tried to move my mysql data dir from one disk to another, I modified the datadir parameter in my.cnf, but when XAMPP, and more precisely, MySQL starts, this error is displayed and MySQL doesn't run. Operation could not be completed. (XAMPPErrorDomain error 1.) What's the problem here? I correctly specified the new path.

    I need to configure Mountain Lion (10.8.2) OS X Server BOOTP to provide DHCP options 66 and 67 to provide PXE booting for PCs on my network. I have tried following the bootpd MAN pages, but they are not specific enough. I have also read conflicting information on the net, but nothing definitive for Mountain Lion DHCP. From bootpd man page: bootpd has a built-in type conversion table for many more options, mostly those specified in RFC 2132, and will try to convert from whatever type the option appears in the property list to the binary, packet format. For example, if bootpd knows that the type of the option is an IP address or list of IP addresses, it converts from the string form of the IP address to the binary, network byte order numeric value. If the type of the option is a numeric value, it converts from string, integer, or boolean, to the proper sized, network byte-order numeric value. Regardless of whether bootpd knows the type of the option or not, you can always specify the DHCP option using the data property list type <key>dhcp_option_128</key> <data> AAqV1Tzo </data> My TFTP server is 172.16.152.20 and the bootfile is pxelinux.0 I have edited /etc/bootpd.plist and added the following to the subnet dict: <key>dhcp_option_66</key> <data> LW4gLWUgrBCYFAo= </data> <key>dhcp_option_67</key> <data> LW4gLWUgcHhlbGludXguMAo= </data> According to the man page, the data elements are supposed to be Base64 encoded, but no matter what I try, I cannot get PXE clients to boot. I have tried encoding 172.16.152.20 using various methods: echo "172.16.152.20" | openssl enc -base64 returns MTcyLjE2LjE1Mi4yMAo= DHCP Option Code Utility (http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/DHCP-Option-Code-Utility.shtml) generating a string from 172.16.152.20 yields: LW4gLWUgMTcyLjE2LjE1Mi4yMAo= (used in the above example) DHCP Option Code Utility generating an IP Addresss from 172.16.152.20 yields: LW4gLWUgrBCYFAo= Encoding pxelinux.0 with the above methods likewise yields different encodings.     Problem Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition (and possibly previous versions as well, I haven't tested them) has no network connections after boot until at least 1 user logs in. This means any services that require networking (e.g. openssh-server) are not available until someone logs in locally either via gdm, kdm, or a TTY. Background Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition uses the NetworkManager service to take commands from the nm-applet in Gnome (or it's equivalent in KDE). As I understand it, while NetworkManager is running at boot, it is not issued any commands to connect until you login for the first time because nm-applet isn't running until you login and your Gnome session starts (or similar for KDE). I'm not sure what prompts NetworkManager to connect to the network when you login via a TTY. There are several relevant variables involved in starting up the network connections including: Wired vs Wireless (and the resulting drivers, SSID, passwords, and priorities) Static vs DHCP Multiple interfaces Constraints Support Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (bonus points for additional supported versions) Support wired eth0 interface Receive an IP address via DHCP Receive DNS information via DHCP (obviously the DHCP server must provide this information) Enable networking at the proper time (e.g. some time after file systems are loaded but before network services like ssh start) Switching distros or versions (e.g. to Server Edition) is not an acceptable solution Switching to a Static IP configuration is not an acceptable solution Question How to start networking on a wired interface before logon in Ubuntu Desktop Edition? What I have tried Per this guide, adding the following entry into /etc/network/interfaces so that NetworkManager won't manage the eth0 interface: auth eth0 iface inet dhcp After reboot eth0 is down. Issuing ifconfig eth0 up brings the interface up but it receives no IP address. Issuing dhclient eth0 instead Does bring up the interface and it Does receive an IP address. Completely removing the NetworkManager package in addition to the settings above. I'm a bit confused with the whole UpStart/SysVinit mangling that's going in Ubuntu currently (I'm more familiar with the CentOS world). However, directly issuing sudo /etc/init.d/networking start Or sudo start networking does not bring up the eth0 interface at all, much less get an IP address.     We recently built a replicating SAN array from 2x Dell R720XD's, we are using LSI 9270-8i MegaRAID cards with CacheCade 2.0, BBU and Write Back cache enabled. Our cards are showing HUGE chip temperatures (97*C+ with NO disk activity!). Our R720's are in auto temp management mode so the max exhaust temp is 50*C. The MegaRAID cards are passively cooled and depend on good airflow to cool them - however is 97*C normal? - I have seen reference to 60*C max ambients but nothing for chip temp.

Then using Windows 7's disk management console, I resized my Windows 7partition and created a 3rd NTFS partition for data, intending for both Windows 7 and Snow Leopard to read/write this partition. I installed MacFuse and NTFS-3G in Snow Leopard, but Snow Leopard still shows I have a single Windows 7 partition. How can I get Snow Leopard to recognize my third partition?

    I tried to install Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store and got the error 0x80070002. It seems that this error means that the download was not completed. I tried to restart the installation, I tried to clear the windows store cache, I tried to delete every thing in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder, I tried to do a clean boot. It always fails with the same error. As a workaround, is there a way to download windows 8.1 from somewhere else than the windows store?

    I'm wondering if anybody has ever used Dell storage products like the MD3220 array in a JBOD configuration. From what I can tell only perc h810 will work for external JBOD but that is not terribly specific, and for some reason I couldn't find many examples on the web of people configuring dell storage products as JBOD. My question is: Is it possible to connect to am MD3220 array, or other Dell arrays using a PERC h810 controller and use it as JBOD, and if so do I have to configure every disk in the array as a RAID 0 volume?

  • Windows7 hardlink over two different drives

    I am trying to create a hardlink on my C drive that points to a file on my D drive. I open up a terminal with Administrator privileges and try the following: C:\Users\sandro>mklink /H _vimrc D:\sandro-desktop\.vimrc The error that I get is: The system cannot move the file to a different disk drive. When I try a softlink I get the issue that for some reason changes to the link contents aren't reflected on the targeted file. Thank you!

  • windows 8.1 couldn't be installed with error 0xc1900101 0x20006

    I tried to install the just released update of windows 8.1, but after several reboot it said it couldn't install it with the error : windows 8.1 couldn't be installed with error 0xc1900101 0x20006 I don't have truecrypt or bitlocker, just a dual boot with MacOSx86 (hackintosh) and chimera bootloader, I am not sure if it has anything to do with the error.     My setup is Ubuntu 10.04 on AWS Autossh to create a tunnel for MySQL The tunnel is automatically created using Upstart (/etc/init/autossh.conf): respawn console none start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE=eth0) stop on [!12345] script #user/IP Address redacted exec autossh -M 20000 -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -L 3306:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] end script On boot the tunnel is created, works great. After some random idle time it dies. Any thoughts on how to keep it alive? I don't know what's killing autossh.
