  • Most valued skill set in web development industry/what should I be doing now? (Kinda random "career"

    I want to be a web programmer [when I grow up?] because it's what I like doing, and I really do thoroughly enjoy it (web development in general, actually). I have about 2 years experience with PHP, CSS, and HTML and a few months experiance with JS and jQuery. I've been wondering this for a while -- what languages should I be most familiar with if I want to try and make a career out of web development? I'm only 17, so I've got plenty of time, and I think I've got a decent headstart on things, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If I'm thinking in terms of being able to get hired as a web programmer, what is (or what are...?) the most useful thing I can do now to be able to have an upper hand when it comes to looking for a job. What languages, as a young programmer, should I really focus on? If you were looking to hire a developer, what would you be looking for?

But still getting a 401 when I cal rs.Render(...). The Reporting Services install is sitting on a Windows Server 2008 box and requires integrated authentication. Thanks

  • How to always return a set number of records when using find_related_tags with acts-as-taggable-on

    I'm using the acts-as-taggable-on gem and I need to use find_related_tags on my survey model to get back 3 surveys every time. In the event there aren't always 3 related I need to pick how ever many are related plus some random ones to get to 3. Additionally I have a method I wrote called completed_survey_ids which return an array of survey_ids that shouldn't be used because the user has already completed them. Also there is a rare case that there won't be enough surveys because the user has completed them all so in that event it is okay to return less surveys then requested. I did write a named_scope to handle getting rid of the completed_survey_ids that I think works named_scope :not, lambda { |survey_ids| {:conditions => "id NOT IN (#{survey_ids.join(',')})" } }

The problem is that when this page posts back via some event on the page, I never get these tags in the Request.Form collection. Is this simply how ASP.NET works (e.g. only server-side control post back) or am I missing something simple. My understanding was that a postback should bring back all the form variables.

    In my environment, if I create a class in JScript syntax: class test{ } and then save it to a file named "test.js" and run it with wscript, I get a Microsoft JScript "Syntax error" at line 1. However, if I simply, say, write a function: function getInput() { var wshell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell"); wshell.Popup ("Do you want to continue?"); return userInput } getInput() and run it the same way, it works. Hopefully, there is something fundamentally wrong with my class definition. If that is the case, I am excited to find out.

  • What is the proper way to set my drawable directories to support the new Dell Streak without losing support for older devices?

    This seems to be a widespread problem. I have the following drawable directories: drwxr-xr-x 18 mike staff 612 Feb 4 17:28 drawable/ drwxr-xr-x 51 mike staff 1734 Feb 4 17:32 drawable-nodpi/ drwxr-xr-x 44 mike staff 1496 Feb 4 17:30 drawable-normal-mdpi/ My xml drawable resources are in drawable. My resources intended for the large-mdpi (Dell Streak) and normal-hdpi (Droid, Nexus, Incredible, etc.) are all in drawable-nodpi. My resources for normal-mdpi (older phones like the G1) are in drawable-normal-mdpi. Unfortunately, the normal-hdpi phones like the Droid are pulling their resources from drawable-normal-mdpi instead of from drawable-nodpi. This is likely because of the rules in How Android Finds the Best-matching Resource. So the question is, how do I provide support for large-mdpi devices like the Streak along with normal-hdpi devices like the Droid, as well as normal-mdpi devices like the G1? The simplest solution would probably be to make two copies of my large resources, one in normal-hdpi for the droid and one in large-mdpi for the streak, but i'd like to avoid duplicating all of these resources. Update Per Mayra's suggestion, I could make an alias for every resource. However, there are a lot of resources I'd have to make aliases for, which would make maintenance a nightmare going forward, so I'm hoping for another solution.

    I have Apache2 + Django + X-sendfile. My problem is that when I upload an animated GIF, it won't "animate" when I output through the browser.     I'm able to rotate an image that has been added to a JLabel. The only problem is that if the height and width are not equal, the rotated image will no longer appear at the JLabel's origin (0,0). Here's what I'm doing. I've also tried using AffineTransform and rotating the image itself, but with the same results. Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g; g2d.rotate(Math.toRadians(90), image.getWidth()/2, image.getHeight()/2); super.paintComponent(g2d); If I have an image whose width is greater than its height, rotating that image using this method and then painting it will result in the image being painted vertically above the point 0,0, and horizontally to the right of the point 0,0.

    I have a class (mxml) that extends Button while implementing drag/drop support. When I drag one of them onto another, the drag receiver stays stuck in its 'over' phase until I click on it (As if something about DragManager.acceptDragDrop is preventing the MouseEvent from getting to button) Is there a way to make a button re-evaluate its phase after the drop? I've tried fabricating a MouseEvent and sending it to rollOverHandler with no luck.     Hi all, I'm looking for guidance in setting up a corporate source server, but when I google this topic the best I can come up with is articles and walkthrough concerned with configuring VS to use microsoft's public symbol servers for use with debugging .NET assemblies. Provided for background info, the environment I'm concerned with using is Vs2010/Tfs2010. Basically, the workflow I'm looking to facilitate is this: 1) customer reports problem with application 2) application of the appropriate version is installed on a virtual machine 3) developer repros bug attaching to process on virtual machine and leveraging source server (symbol server?) on corporate domain. This is the step I'm concerned with. 4) developer pinpoints problem fixes bug in workspace. 5) developer performs a dll swap on VM to test changes? (side topic, not sure on this) 6) normal development/source control workflows. Any advice is welcome! Edit: since writing this, I have stumbled on this article, which is a nice writeup on the configuration of source server for TFS 2008. Has anyone adapted this for Tfs 2010?

    This may be a very dumb question but I can't seem to get it working. I use at many places the following syntax for dynamically binding a property of a control in aspx file to the resource entry, e.g. <SomeFunnyControl Text="<%$ Resources : ResClass, ResEntry %>" /> I want to do a similar thing with a class containing some constants, something like <SomeFunnyControl Text="<%= MyConstantsClass.MyStringConstant %>" /> But this doesn't seem to work, it simply sets the text to the exact expression without evaluating it. I am using ASP.NET 3.5 btw. I have tried the databinding approach but I get an HttpParseException saying Databinding expressions are only supported on objects that have a DataBinding event.

    If I have a strongly typed data table with a column for values of type Int32, and this column allows nulls, then I'll get an exception if I do this for a row where the value is null: int value = row.CustomValue; Instead I need to do this: if (!row.IsCustomValueNull()) { int value = row.CustomValue; // do something with this value } Ideally I would like to be able to do this: int? value = row.CustomValue; Of course I could always write my own method, something like GetCustomValueOrNull; but it'd be preferable if the property auto-generated for the column itself simply returned a nullable. Is this possible?
