  • Changing <img src="XXX" />, js event when new image has finished loading?

    I have a photo gallery web page where a single <img src="XXX" /> element's src is changed (on a click) with javascript to show the next image—a poor man's ajax I guess. Works great on faster connections when the new image appears almost immediately. Even if it takes a few seconds to load, every browser I've tested it on keeps the old image in place until the new one is completely loaded. It's a little confusing waiting those few seconds on a slow connection, though, and I'm wondering if there's some javascript event that fires when the new image is done loading, allowing me to put a little working... animated gif or something up in the meantime. I know I could use AJAX for real (I'm using jQuery already), but this is such a nice and simple solution. Besides this lag, is there any other reason I should stay away from this approach to changing images? thanks.

But, I really love JQuery, and it would be great if there was something more like JQuery in the PHP world that I could use for sever side DOM manipulation. NOTE: I'm only interested here in how JQuery Selects and Manipulates the DOM, not all the other parts of JQuerry (I guess you can say just the Pop and the Sizzle parts).

  • If you delete a DOM element, do any events that started with that element continue to bubble?

    What behavior should I expect if I delete a DOM element that was used to start an event bubble, or whose child started the event bubble - will it continue to bubble if the element is removed? For example - lets say you have a table, and want to detect click events on the table cells. Another piece of JS has executed an AJAX request that will eventually replace the table, in full, once the request is complete. What happens if I click the table, and immediately after the table gets replaced by a successful completion of an AJAX request? I ask because I am seeing some behavior where the click events don't seem to be bubbling - but it is hard to duplicate. I am watching the event on a parent element of the table (instead of attaching the event to every TD), and it just doesn't seem to reach it sometimes.

I can do this right now by first querying to find the number of rows and then running another query that sorts and selects the nth row: select count(*) as `total` from mydata; select * from mydata order by `field` asc limit 37,1; Can I combine these two queries into a single query?

  • Selection on table view causes parent view to change

    Hi there, I'm working on an iPad app and here's my scenario: I have a view which contains a table view inside of it. When the user selects an item on the table view, I would like the parent's view to change in a navigational manner. For those of you that have an iPad, this would be akin to the "Settings" app. But I guess in the "Settings" app, the right pane is composed of a grouped table view right?     I want to make someone able to register on my site (or upgrade their current account) with one of 3 membership levels. When someone selects the membership level (or upgrades their current account) and registers, they will register under that membership level and payment will be started from there. My real question being how do I make someone able to sign up (or upgrade) an account upon registration (for new accounts) and upgrade for existing accounts and have this happen automatically so I dont have to do them all by hand? If say, I request to a web page in different domain with AJAX, it is not allowed because of the Cross side scripting error. But why is it allowed to access via a server side page. For e.g. we can use CURL in php to access any site.? Why is this feature OK for server side scripting and NOT OK for Client Side Scripting?

Wufoo generates a lovely XML (or json) file that can be grabed and parsed. I'm trying to grab the entries xml feed that is associated with the form and parse it via jquery to show who has entered.     Each tweet has a single URL such as http://twitter.com/#!/DeliciousHot/status/23189589820702720. The tweet identification (/DeliciousHot/status/23189589820702720) is in the URL fragment segment which is not actually sent to server. Originally, I thought it works this way: The URL response doesn't have this tweet specific info. It is JavaScript module that extracts tweet id from current browser URL and fetch tweet payload with AJAX. The page content is then updated with the tweet payload. To my surprise, it is doesn't work this way! With Firebug, you can view that response of http://twitter.com/#!/DeliciousHot/status/23189589820702720 has tweet payload "10 Signs of a True Gentleman" text in inline JavaScript. The tweet payload is not fetched by another AJAX. So, how does Twitter server get to know the expected tweet ID even it is in URL fragment segment?

Ho can I keep the reference to the main object inside XMLHttpRequest events?

  • Do you take the pain of learning it or use an out of the box solution?

    Hi all What I'm getting at here is being presented with a control or framework that does 95% of what you want but has its shortcomings when opposed to learning how to do it yourself. To give a good example (ASP.Net) UpdatePanel vs DIY JS/JSON. The UpdatePanel gives you AJAX instantly without doing anything additional, however I've come to learn that its shortcomings are mainly that it's a bit of a hack and performs badly on busy pages and I've found myself having to scrap UpdatePanels in favour of rolling my own JS, and I've now made it a habit to fully investigate any shortcomings in out-of-the-box solutions, as I've been stung by this experience. So I guess what I'm asking is: Is it better to find out how to DIY or is it considered a better approach to try the available solution and risk going a full circle? Obviously I've only targetted a single control, but it is a very attractive control to people learning AJAX - I'm sure there are others out there. Sorry if dupliate. Thanks

    I am looking for some sample Java code demonstrating how to get AJAX content displayed into a custom font using Typeface.js within a GWT app. I have tried a little bit by calling the following native function native void Typeface_renderDocument() /*-{ $wnd._typeface_js.renderDocument(); }-*/; after having filled the relevant widget with the AJAX content, and after calling the following function on the widget : void applyTypeface(Widget widget) { widget.addStyleName("typeface-js"); widget.getElement().getStyle().setProperty("fontFamily", "Helvetiker"); Typeface_renderDocument(); } ...where Helvetiker is a custom font (actually available from Typeface.js fonts page (http://typeface.neocracy.org/fonts.html). But that didn't work. I am looking forward to any suggestions since I am bit stuck here. Alternatively I would be interested in an example using cufón within GWT, although I am not so keen about the replacement by images that cufón does (which is the main reason why I was trying to use Typeface.js.)
