• In which layer should I join 2 entities together?

  I use Spring MVC and a regular JDBC. I've just learned that I should separate business process into layers which are presentation layer, controller layer, service layer, and repository/DAO layer. Now suppose that I have an Entity called Person that can have multiple Jobs. Job itself is another entity which have its own properties. From what I gathered, the repository layer only manages one entity. Now I have one entity that contains another entity. Where do I "join" them? The service layer? Suppose I want to get a person whose job isn't known yet (lazy loading). But the system might ask what the job of that particular person is later on. What is the role of each layer in this case? Please let me know if I need to add any detail into this question.

  I have a class that implements IComparable. public class MyClass : IComparable<MyClass> { public int CompareTo(MyClass c) { return this.whatever.CompareTo(c.whatever); } etc.. } I then can call the sort method of a generic list of my class List<MyClass> c = new List<MyClass>(); //Add stuff, etc. c.Sort(); and have the list sorted according to my comparer. How do i specify further comparers to sort my collection different ways according to the other properties of MyClass in order to let users sort my collection in a number of different ways?

• Exposing a "dumbed-down", read-only instance of a Model in GAE

  Does anyone know a clever way, in Google App Engine, to return a wrapped Model instance that only exposes a few of the original properties, and does not allow saving the instance back to the datastore? I'm not looking for ways of actually enforcing these rules, obviously it'll still be possible to change the instance by digging through its __dict__ etc. I just want a way to avoid accidental exposure/changing of data. My initial thought was to do this (I want to do this for a public version of a User model): class ReadOnlyUser(db.Model): display_name = db.StringProperty() @classmethod def kind(cls): return 'User' def put(self): raise SomeError() Unfortunately, GAE maps the kind to a class early on, so if I do ReadOnlyUser.get_by_id(1) I will actually get a User instance back, not a ReadOnlyUser instance.

• iPhone: Run method from another view

  I have two views that I am loading, the first is a view with an MKMapView, the second has a table view. I would like to access a method in the first views controller, from the second view. I have been told to use the delegate for this, but I can't get it right. In my app delegate, I have set up added properties for the class of my first view. Then, in my second view, I try to access the first view using the delegate: MyAppDelegate *mainDelegate = (MyAppDelegate*) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; Then try: [mainDelegate.mapViewControllerClass myMethodToRun]; It seems to me that it should be calling the myMethodToRun method, which is in my map view. But, it does not work. What is wrong with what I am doing here? There must be a way to access a method of another view...

• What structure of data use to communicate via tcp/ip in java?

  Let's assume I want to send many messages between 2 programs made in java that use TCP sockets. I think the most convienient way is to send objects like: PrintStream ps = new PrintStream(s.getOutputStream()); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(ps); some_kind_of_object_here; oos.writeObject(some_kind_of_object_here); ps.print(oos); I want to send, strings, numbers, HashMaps, boolean values How can I do this using fx 1 object that can store all that properties? I though about ArrayList that is serializable and we can put there everything but is not elegant way. I want to send different types of data because user can choose from a variety of options that server can do for it. Any advices?

• Entity Framework with 'Get' Stored Procedure that returns Entities

  Hello, I am attempting to execute a stored procedure that returns data with exactly the same columns as that of a table Entity I have in my project. I set the 'Returns a Collection Of' property in the 'Add Function Import' dialog to my entity type. I get a NullReferenceException error when executing the stored procedure and on further digging it seems that it is because the 'EntityKey' property is missing. Is there anything I can do to tell it to ignore those special properties of the Entity? I already have a partial class for that entity with '[ScaffoldColumn(false)]' but that doesn't seem to matter. • No Parameterless Constructor defined for - ViewModel with UOW

  I have a view model class which uses UnitOfWork to some database operations like fetching of items to create select lists and IPrincipal for some auditing (like modified by etc.). It cannot work without this UOW. I have configured my web site to use Ninject to inject UOW into Controllers. From controller I pass this UOW when creating view model. But when performing POST operation I am getting No parameterless constructor defined for this object. I have few SelectList type of properties which I have excluded with Bind attribute. How can I overcome this problem? Can I configure Ninject to create the objects of this type and make ModelBinder use it?

• Listview icons show up blurry (C#)

  I'm attempting to display a "LargeIcon" view in a listview control, however the images I specify are blurry. This is what I have so far: The .png files are 48x48 and that's what I have it set to display at in the ImageList properties. There's one thing that I've noticed (which is probably the cause) but I don't know how to change it. Inside the "Images Collection Editor" where you choose what images you want for the ImageList control, it looks like it's setting the wrong size for each image. As you can see the "PhysicalDimension" and the "Size" is set to 16x16 and not abled to be manipulated. Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks!

• dependencies linking isnt enough?

  In Visual Studio (C++) the other day, I was trying to build some example code and it would not work, even though I was pointing at the right include and lib directories. (I got linker errors) I asked a friend who fixed the problem by specifying the necessary .lib files in the General Properties-Linker-Input field of the project settings. My questions: Simply pointing to the directory with the .lib files is not enough? You need to specifically tell the linker which lib files to link? By listing the .lib files in the "additional dependencies" field, am I specifying exactly which static libs get built into the exe? If the answer to this is yes, then will these be the ONLY lib files that get built into the exe? Why is it called "additional" dependencies? Is there another place to specify lib files to include? Before I thought this was done by including the necessary header file? Thanks everyone! Russel

• Build turns partially transparent image pixels black

  I'm very new to C# and I've run into a problem and haven't been able to solve it. I have a row of buttons that have .png images assigned to them. The images are in .png format to allow transparency, and smoothing the edges in GIMP leaves some semi-transparent pixels. I've set the Image List Toolbar (imglToolbar)'s properties to recognize "Transparent" as the designated color to show up as transparent. I'm working in Visual Studio 2005. The strange thing is that everything looks great when I'm viewing the Visual C# form preview window. The icons look exactly as they should. However, once I actually build the project, the buttons treat every semi-transparent pixel near the edge of the image as if it's black.   Hey team of awesomeness!, (Iphone Objective-C question) First off, I despise singletons with a passion. Though I should probably be trying to use one, I just dont want to. I want to create a data class (that is instantiated only once by a view controller on loading), and then using a different class, message the crap out of that data instance until it is brimming with so much data, it smiles. So, how do i do that? I made a pointer to the instance of the data class when I instantiated it. I'm now over in a separate view controller, action occurs, and I want to update the initial data object. I think I need to reference that object by way of pointer, but I have no idea how to do that. yes I've set properties and getters and setters, which seem to work, but only in the initial view controller class.   I'm trying to create a templated silverlight control that has a simple animation (swap a few color properties). An example would be a control that is similar to the 'questions' menu item in stackoverflow. So the consumer of the control can specify the background color and the background color for the mouseover event. I've run into the issue that I can't use template binding for a storyboard animation (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1336689/is-it-possible-to-use-templatebinding-in-a-storyboard-in-silverlight). • How to limit SMTP delivery to hourly batches

  In an effort to keep us from being labeled spammers by major ISPs (in addition to SPF records, privacy policies, CANSPAM compliance and the like) - I wanted to limit the amount of mail we send out an hour. Is this possible in W2K3 SMTP server? I was looking at outbound connection properties in the SMTP virtual server config screens...It's just not that clear if tinkering with those settings are going to do what I want. In a nutshell, I'd love mail being sent by this server to queue up and send for example, 5,000 messages every 10 minutes or so. Is this possible?

• Customizing TabWidget in SDK 1.5, API 3

  I'm aware that API 3 doesn't allow a view to be set for a tab, but I still need to modify the TextView displayed as the indicator. I'd also like to change the Drawable for the tab, but I don't see a way to do it without a custom tab view as allowed in 1.6, API 4. Working with this generic example below, is there way to retrieve the TextView and modify its properties or change the drawable?   I am curious about how c/c++ compiler analyse lib files ? I mean say I create a library containing some classes, I am using that library in my main program. How does compiler know what class names are there in that library. Of course that information is present in binary format, I want to use that functionality in my program, to be specific I have a binary lib file and I want to know all classes and properties/functions present in that lib file. Is it possible ? If compiler can do that why can't some library ? thanks for any clue

• Re-ordering a collection of UIView's based on their CGPoint

  Hi all, I have a NSMutableArray that holds a collection of UIViewControllers Amongst other properties and methods an instance of each of the viewControllers are placed in a parent view The user will place these objects individually when desired to. So essentially I use - (void)addSubview:(UIView *)view when a new view is added to the parent view controller. Because the UI is isometric it's made things a tad more complicated What I am trying to do is re-order the views based on their co-ordinate position, so items higher up the parent UIView frame is indexed lower then views lower in the parent UIview frame. And items that are on the left side of the view are positioned at a higher index to those on the right I think the solution may have to do with re-ordering the NSMutableArray but how can I compare the CGpoints? Do I need to compare the x and y separately?

• Custom service application - proxy stopped

  Ive created a custom service app using samples from Tony Bierman and MS. I can see the application in central admin, I can create a new service app from it, the create page works, the manage page is blank and I don't have a properties page. I havent yet tried using the beast, I just want to get the deployment and admin stuff working first. However, after creating it, I see the Service app has started but the app proxy is stopped. I dont know if this is a problem or not but I cant find anywhere to start it. Should I worry?

Now I wan to create a model named "OrderDetails" which will have properties from both the model like product name and id from product and Order number from orders something like this. • How to keep assigned SAS user promts from disappearing after you sign out of SAS?

  I have successfully assigned user prompts by: right clicking on the program - properties - prompts - Prompt Manager and adding what I want the user to edit when the run button is pushed. What I have not yet discovered is how to keep those prompt assignments after I exit SAS. When I reopen the program the prompts are gone/blank. I understand that I need to edit the program file in which I want to use a prompt. The prompt should be added to the code as &prompt-name. But I have not yet found code or examples on how to do this. Can anybody help?

• How to Iterate a Resharper Template ?.

  I have a small Resharper Template I have written for Null check of a function Parameter (C#). Check.IsNotNull($param$, "$param$"); - Suggest Parameter - #1 I can now null check the function paramters one by one. But I want to be able to null check all the paramters at once through a template. Is it Possible in Resharper?. Is there someting like a "$Foreach" using which I can loop through parameter variables and write the code to check them one by one ?. (without writing out the foreach into the code) I see that the "Alt + Ins" does something similar. (Taking all Properties on the class and making them as parameters of a constructor). So hoping that there's a way out.
