• Is it possible to compile a query for linq-to-objects

  I have a linq to objects query in a recursive loop and afraid when the objects approach more then 1000 and a have more then 100 users on the site -- my website will break. so is it possible to compile a linq to objects query. The linq query does nothing more then find the direct children of a node.

• Single Sign On for WebServices, WCS, WFS, WMS (Geoserver), etc.

  I'm trying to implement a Single Sign On (SSO) for a web application. Maybe you can help me find a proper solution, give me a direction or tell me, that solutions already exist. The scenario: A GeoExt (ExtJS for geodata/map based apps) webapp (JavaScript only) has a login form to let the user authenticate himself. The authentication is not implemented yet, so i'm flexible with respect to that. After authenticating to the main webapp the user indirectly accesses multiple 3rd-party services like WebServices, GeoServer WFS, Google Maps, etc. These services might require additional authentication like credentials or keys. We are (so far) not talking about additional login screens, just some kind of "machine to machine"-authentication. The main problem: I'm unable to modify the 3rd party services (e.g. Google) to add a SSO mechanism. I'd like to have a solution that allows the user to log in once to have access to all the services required. My first idea was a repository that stores all the required credentials or keys. The user logs in and can retrieve all required information to acces sthe other services. Does anybody know of existing implementations, papers, maybe implementations of such services? Other requirements: The communication between the JS application and the repository must be secure. The credentials must be stored in a secure manner. But the JS app must be able to use them to access the services (no chance to store a decryption key in a JS-app securely, eh? *g).

• Why is the Clojure Hello World program so slow compared to Java and Python?

  Hi all, I'm reading "Programming Clojure" and I was comparing some languages I use for some simple code. I noticed that the clojure implementations were the slowest in each case. Does anyone have pointers on what the cause of this could be? Is Clojure really that slow, or are there JVM tricks et al that need to be used in order to speed up execution? More importantly - isn't this huge difference in performance going to be an issue at some point? (I mean, lets say I was using Clojure for a production system - the gain I get in using lisp seems completely offset by the performance issues I can see here). The machine used here is a 2007 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, a 2.16Ghz Intel C2D and 2G DDR2 SDRAM. • Cannot run a JUnit test case containing threads from Eclipse

  I am running JUnit test case from Eclipse 3.4.1 . This test case creates a class which starts a thread to do some stuff. When the test method ends it seems that Eclipse is forcibly shutting down the thread. If I run the same test from the command line, then the thread runs properly. Somehow I do not remember running into such problems with Eclipse before. Is this something that was always present in Eclipse or did they add it in 3.4.x ? Here is an example: When I run this test from Eclipse, I get a few printts of the cnt (till about 1800) and then the test case is terminated utomatically. • Architecting iPhone Views - seeking help on a specific issue + general advice

  Hi there, I am a web developer (rails, python) that is new to iPhone development. I've done some desktop development in the past within the MS environment (C#). I'm trying to build a really simple iPhone application and I am confused by the way that views work in general. If someone can provide advice for my particular problem, along with some resources where I can learn how to architect iPhone views in the future, that would be awesome. I feel like a lot of the Apple documentation that I've come across is too specific - I am lacking a fundamental understanding of how views work on the iPhone. My particular problem looks like this: I need one view that displays some downloaded text content. This is the view that shows when the app loads, and it is pretty straightforward. Then I need a settings area (I've already decided I don't want to use the iPhone settings area). The settings area main page will have some text fields on it. It will also have a 2-row grouped table. Each cell in that table will take you to another view which also has a grouped table used for multi-select. I suspect that I can reuse the same view for these two final "detailed setting" views. In summary: home page settings main page detailed setting 1 detailed setting 2 Any help and advice appreciated.

• jQuery eval of ajax inline script not throwing errors

I'm currently putting together an app that has scripts that get loaded in with an ajax request. An example: var main = _main.get(); main.load( someurl ); Where someurl is a page that contains an inline script element: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function(){ var activities = new activities(); activities.init(); }); </script> jQuery will do a line by line eval of js that lives in inline script tags. The problem is, I get no errors or any information whatsoever in firebug when something goes awry. Does anyone have a good solution for this? Or a better practice for loading pages which contain javascript functionality? Edit: A little progress... so at the top of the page that is being loaded in via ajax, I have another script that was being included like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/pages/activities.js"></script> When I moved the inline $(document).ready() code in the page to the end of this included file, instead, syntax errors were now properly getting thrown. As an aside, I threw a console.log() into the inline script tag, and it was being logged just fine. I also tried removing the $(document).ready() altogether, and also switching it out for a $(window).load() event. No difference. May have something to do with the inline scripts dependency on the included activities.js, I guess. :: shakes head :: javascript can be a nightmare.

• JSP Document/JSPX: what determines how space/linebreaks are removed in the output?

  I've got a "JSP Document" ("JSP in XML") nicely formatted and when the webpage is generated and sent to the user, some linebreaks are removed. Now the really weird part: apparently the "main" .jsp always gets all its linebreak removed but for any subsequent .jsp included from the main .jsp, linebreaks seems to be randomly removed (some are there, others aren't). For example, if I'm looking at the webpage served from Firefox and ask to "view source", I get to see what is generated. So, what determines when/how linebreaks are kept/removed? This is just an example I made up... Can you force a .jsp to serve this: <body><div id="page"><div id="header"><div class="title">... or this: <body> <div id="page"> <div id="header"> <div class="title">... ? I take it that linebreaks are removed to save on bandwidth, but what if I want to keep them? And what if I want to keep the same XML indentation as in my .jsp file? Is this doable?

• Is there a way in PHP to keep a file open and process each line and subsequent lines?

I'm thinking that I need to open a file, get the number of lines, then do this again in a loop - and when the size is different, read the new lines and process them. Unless there is a way to do it all in one request with Active Resource that is simple, I'd like to avoid it. Format doesn't matter. Whatever makes it convenient. The IDs don't need to be sent, because the other app will just be creating records and assigning new IDs in the "aggregate" system. The hierarchy would need to be preserved (E.g. "Hey other Rails app, I have genres, and each genre has an artist, and each artist has an album, and each album has songs" etc.)

• Running another process without GUI freezing

  I'm having trouble getting my GUI to appear and not freeze while running (and waiting for) an outside process. In this case, drivers.exe is a very simply program where the user simply clicks "OK". So whenever I click OK, it exits. I am trying to simply make my status strip count numbers up (really fast) as drivers.exe is executing.   Am facing a bit of trouble getting the 'combined fragment' to sit above an activation (in a sequence diagram). On adding a 'combined fragment' (loop/alt/opt etc) to a section of the sequence diagram, the label and the guard condition appear 'under' the activation block and hence is obscured.   I'm not too familiar with Linux/Bash, so I can't really find the right terms to search for. For example, if I type "test" and then try to go back by pressing the left button, ^[[D appears instead of my cursor going back one place: $ test^[[D I've tried the newer Console class as well, but the end result is the same. On Windows' cmd.exe shell, I don't have this problem. So, the question is: is there a way to change my Java code so that I can use the arrow keys without Bash transforming them in sequences like ^[[D but actually move the cursor instead? I'm hoping that I can solve this on a "programming level". If this is not possible, then I guess I'd better try my luck on Superuser to see if there's something I need to change on my Bash console.
