  Hi, guys, I'm coding a web page in Hibernate-JPA and Oracle. I need the following: I have two classes: Place and Home. I need two collections of type Place in every Home: I do the following: Home: @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="ID_PLACES") private List<Places>places1; @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="ID_PLACES") private List<Places>Places2; However, hibernate got an exception (repeated column) and forces to me to mapping with insert and update to false. How Can I get Two ManyToOne relationship to same primary key with insert a true?.

  I am trying to download a CSV file using HttpResponse to make sure that the browser treats it as an attachment. • Dynamic query to immediate execute?

  I am using the MSDN Dynamic linq to sql package. It allows using strings for queries. But, the returned type is an IQueryable and not an IQueryable<T>. I do not have the ToList() method. How can I this immediate execute without manually enumerating over the IQueryable? My goal is to databind to the Selecting event on a linqtosql datasource and that throws a datacontext disposed exception. I can set the query as the Datasource on a gridview though. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks. The dynamic linq to sql is the one from the samples that comes with visual studio.

• How to implement an abstract class in ruby?

  I know there is no concept of abstract class in ruby. But if at all it needs to be implemented, how to go about it? I tried something like... class A def self.new raise 'Doh! You are trying to instantiate an abstract class!' end end class B < A ... ... end But when I try to instantiate B, it is internally going to call A.new which is going to raise the exception. Also, modules cannot be instantiated but they cannot be inherited too. making the new method private will also not work. Any pointers?

• Do we really need a safe release macro?

  Quite a lot of people seem to use a macro such as #define SAFE_RELEASE(X) [X release]; X = nil; (myself included). I've been reassessing why I am using it and wanted to canvas some opinion. The purpose (I think) for using this macro is so that if you were to accidentally use your object after releasing it then you won't get a bad access exception because objective-c will quite happily ignore it when the object is nil. It strikes me that this has the potential to mask some obscure bugs. Maybe it would actually be preferable for the program to crash when you try to use X again. That way during testing you can find the issue and improve the code. Does this macro encourage lazy programming? Thoughts?

  I'm running a database-heavy Java application on a cluster, using Connector/J 5.1.14. Therefore, I have up to 150 concurrent tasks accessing the same MySQL database. I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Too many connections This happens because the server can't handle so many connections. I can't change anything on the database server. So my question is: Can I check if a connection is possible BEFORE I actually connect to the database?   What's the best practise when adapting C-style functions which return a true/false to Java? Here's a simple method to illustrate where the problem lies. public static boolean fileNameEndsWithExtension( String filename, String fileExtension) { return filename.endsWith( fileExtension ); } Note that there's probably a more elegant way of filtering files (feel free to comment on this). Anyway, if filename is a null value, does one: Return a false if filename is null? If so, how does one go about distinguishing between the case where filename is null and the case where the String or file name doesn't end with a given file extension? Change the return type to the wrapper class Boolean which allows a null value. Throw an Exception and force the programmer to make sure that a null value is never passed to the method? Use another solution?

• C# Threading and Sql Connections

  I have a method that attempts to update a sql server database in an ASP.NET application. If the update fails, it catches the exception and then queues the update in MSMQ, and then spins up a new thread that will later de-queue the pending update and try again. When the thread starts, it fails to open a database connection because it is attempting to connect using Network Service as the login. The sql connection is using Windows Authentication, and will work outside of the thread. If I put a breakpoint in the code that executes inside the new thread and check the Thread.CurrentPrincipal, it shows the Identity as being the correct user. Why is the sql connection attempting to be opened by the Network Service account? I can elaborate further is necessary. Thanks.

• last_login_at not working (null) w/ Authlogic Magic Columns...

  I am using the Authlogicgem for authentication and most of it seems to be working great. Authlogic provides several columns that you can add to your Users table (for example) that it knows to fill in if they are present. i.e. login_count, current_login_ip, last_request_at and last_login_at. All seem to be working fine with the exception of the last_login_at field which is null for each user. Is there anything specific that could be causing this perhaps having to do with the user sessions, etc? I can post code if needed but wasn't sure what would relate to this.

• android: ListView.setAdapter() is causing IllegalStateException. Not sure how to fix it.

  I'm trying to populate a listview with the contents of various ListAdapters based upon the results of a switch statement nested in an OnItemClickListener. When clicking the item, the application was force closing, so I ran it through the dev tools and android debugger. Eclipse is showing me the in the main thread that the application has suspended due an IllegalStateException. I have a marginal understanding of what the particular exception indicates, but not sure how to fix it, or what in my code is causing it to be thrown.   I receive the following exception when Im trying to alter my @ID in an @Entity. identifier of an instance of com.google.search.pagerank.ItemEntity was altered from 1 to 2. I know that im altering the primary key in my table. Im using JPA-annotations. I solved this by using this single HQL query: update Table set name=:newName where name=:oldName instead of using the more oo approach: beginTransaction(); T e = session.load(...); e.setName(newName); session.saveOrUdate(e); commit(); Any idea what the diff is?

• ASP.NET MVC - how to modify requested URLs?

  The baidu spider seems to be adding ¤ to end of some crawled urls (it seems that it happens with urls containing single unicode character as the last character) The baidu-requested url looks like this: site.com/abc/ä¤ while site.com/abc/ä is the valid url and as linked from many places on my site. The internal problem is that a different route is matched for this kind of url and an unhandled exception occurs. I would not like to lose baidu because of too many 500 errors on the site. I would like to change the requested URL to a different URL by removing the added character before any ASP.NET MVC processing of the request starts. Can I write a request filter/http module or something similar in ASP.NET MVC to remove the trailing '¤' from the urls? I would not like to alter my routes to counter-hack this behavior.

  MSDN says that public static members of System.Windows.Application are thread safe. • Cannot connect via HTTPS in Java app on MacOSX (Certificate validation issue)

  I have a java application that connects to a webservice over https. The domain where i host the webservice has a valid Goddaddy issued SSL certificate. The application works fine on Windows but on MacOSx i receive the following exception when attempting to connect to the webservice via https. sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target I've tested it on two machines running Mac OS X 10.7.2 with the latest java runtime updates. I understand this is usually a problem with self signed certificates that need to be added manually, but i have a valid Godaddy issued certificate. In webbrowsers (safari & firefox) on mac os the certificate is recognized and seems ok. I even tried adding the certificate to the key chain manually like in the gase of a self signed one but to no result.

• NoClassDefFoundError when running java tool under Xcode

  Hi all, I'm trying to create a Java Tool by using Xcode. I've already changed my build.xml to have Xcode target java 1.6 and not 1.3 so I can use generics. I'm getting no build errors and using 'javac' and 'java' in the terminal works. Now I want it to work in Xcode as well. I keep getting the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: MyClass where 'MyClass' is the class containing the main method. It probably has something to do with the classpath, which as the build.xml prescribes is "${bin}". There is a bin folder in my project folder, and it contains all the .class files needed to run the program. If anybody could help me, it'd be great!

• Handling Timeouts In A Website SQLCommand Object and c#

  I'm using visual studio 2008 and sql server 2005 and everything is working just fine under normal use. However if a user is on a page for a while several minutes with no activity then clicks a button on occassion the site throws the following exception ... Procedure or Function "sp_name" parameter '@SomeParameterName', which was not supplied I'm also encountering this error in Visual Studio while debugging the application, in otherwords run the site from visual studio then make some change to the html in VS save the changes and refresh the page. The error is not consistent nor is the time the page has to stay idle in order for it to occur.... The current sql command object timeout is 30 secs and the website timeout is 30 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this scenario and what is the fix as I would not except anything to go out of scope until the website timeout occurs ... Any insight will be appreciated.
