• I am receiving a message saying I have duplicate sources but I can't seem to find a duplicate of the line described, any ideas?

  I receive this meassage when I run sudo apt-get update in the terminal:- Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ precise/partner i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_partner_binary-i386_Packages) So i ran the command gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list and checked the source to find there was no duplicate, not that I can see anyway. • ISACA Webcast follow up: Managing High Risk Access and Compliance with a Platform Approach to Privileged Account Management

  Last week we presented how Oracle Privileged Account Manager (OPAM) could be used to manage high risk, privileged accounts.  If you missed the webcast, here is a link to the replay: ISACA replay archive (NOTE: you will need to use Internet Explorer to view the archive) For those of you that did join us on the call, you will know that I only had a little bit of time for Q&A, and was only able to answer a few of the questions that came in.  So I wanted to devote this blog to answering the outstanding questions.  Here they are. 1. Can OPAM track admin or DBA activity details during a password check-out session? Oracle Audit Vault is monitoring these activities which can be correlated to check-out events. 2. How would OPAM handle simultaneous requests? OPAM can be configured to allow for shared passwords.  By default sharing is turned off. 3. How long are the passwords valid?  Are the admins required to manually check them in? Password expiration can be configured and set in the password policy according to your corporate standards.  You can specify if you want forced check-in or not. 4. Can 2-factor authentication be used with OPAM? Yes - 2-factor integration with OPAM is provided by integration with Oracle Access Manager, and Oracle Adaptive Access Manager. 5. How do you control access to OPAM to ensure that OPAM admins don't override the functionality to access privileged accounts? OPAM provides separation of duties by using Admin Roles to manage access to targets and privileged accounts and to control which operations admins can perform. 6. How and where are the passwords stored in OPAM? OPAM uses Oracle Platform Security Services (OPSS) Credential Store Framework (CSF) to securely store passwords.  This is the same system used by Oracle Applications. 7. Does OPAM support hierarchical/level based privileges?  Is the log maintained for independent review/audit? Yes. OPAM uses the Fusion Middleware (FMW) Audit Framework to store all OPAM related events in a dedicated audit database.  8. Does OPAM support emergency access in the case where approvers are not available until later? Yes.  OPAM can be configured to release a password under a "break-glass" emergency scenario. 9. Does OPAM work with AIX? Yes supported UNIX version are listed in the "certified component section" of the UNIX connector guide at:http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E22999_01/doc.111/e17694/intro.htm#autoId0 10. Does OPAM integrate with Sun Identity Manager? Yes.  OPAM can be integrated with SIM using the REST  APIs.  OPAM has direct integration with Oracle Identity Manager 11gR2. 11. Is OPAM available today and what does it cost? Yes.  OPAM is available now.  Ask your Oracle Account Manager for pricing. 12. Can OPAM be used in SAP environments? How would this product integrate, if at all, with access to a particular field in the DB that need additional security such as SSN's? OPAM can work with DB Vault and DB Firewall to provide the fine grained access control for databases. 14. Is VM supported? As a deployment platform Oracle VM is supported. • How should I architect my Model and Data Access layer objects in my website?

  I've been tasked with designing Data layer for a website at work, and I am very interested in architecture of code for the best flexibility, maintainability and readability. I am generally acutely aware of the value in completely separating out my actual Models from the Data Access layer, so that the Models are completely naive when it comes to Data Access. And in this case it's particularly useful to do this as the Models may be built from the Database or may be built from a Soap web service. So it seems to me to make sense to have Factories in my data access layer which create Model objects. So here's what I have so far (in my made-up pseudocode): class DataAccess.ProductsFromXml extends DataAccess.ProductFactory {} class DataAccess.ProductsFromDatabase extends DataAccess.ProductFactory {} These then get used in the controller in a fashion similar to the following: var xmlProductCreator = DataAccess.ProductsFromXml(xmlDataProvider); var databaseProductCreator = DataAccess.ProductsFromXml(xmlDataProvider); // Returns array of Product model objects var XmlProducts = databaseProductCreator.Products(); // Returns array of Product model objects var DbProducts = xmlProductCreator.Products(); So my question is, is this a good structure for my Data Access layer? Is it a good idea to use a Factory for building my Model objects from the data? Do you think I've misunderstood something? And are there any general patterns I should read up on for how to write my data access objects to create my Model objects?

• Code to update HyperV Export file

  I am using the HyperV Module from Codeplex to do a "config only" export from a 2008R2 Hyper-V server. In order to import the configuration on another HyperV server, I need to edit the value of CopyVMStorage in the EXP file. This file is an XML file. I wrote the following code in PowerShell to do the update for me. The variable $existing is the existing exp file. $xml = [xml](get-content $existing) $xpath = '//PROPERTY[@NAME ="CopyVmStorage"]' foreach ($node in $xml.SelectNodes($xpath)) {$node.Value = 'TRUE'} $xml.Save($existing) This code makes the correct changes to the XML. However, when I go to import the file on the Hyper-V server, I get an error that says the file format is incorrect. I am wondering if the encoding of the file is incorrect or if there is something else going on. If I edit the file manually in wordpad, it imports without an issue. The filename is a GUID with a .exp extension, and it appears that the file name is too long for notepad to open. Notepad throws an error trying to open the file, which is why I went with WordPad. I have noticed that the file that is updated with PowerShell comes out formatted whereas the raw file is xml all bunched together with no whitespace. Any ideas on what "file format" means in this HyperV error message and how I might be able to use my code to automate this change in the XML without changing the file format?

• Ruby net:LDAP returns "code = 53 message = Unwilling to perform" error

  Hi, I am getting this error "code = 53, message = Unwilling to perform" while I am traversing the eDirectory treebase = "ou=Users,o=MTC". My ruby script can read about 126 entries from eDirectory and then it stops and prints out this error. I do not have any clue of why this is happening. I am using the ruby net:LDAP library version 0.0.4. Their responses, perhaps jokingly, frequently include "job security." I hear this from experienced professionals, too. And not just in programming; network engineers and system administrators widely subscribe to this belief. Can you really ensure job security by holding the details of your work in your head rather than on paper (or in files)? What's your experience?

• Is there a way to use a SSH connection to access SMB or UPnP files without setting up a VPN?

  What I'm trying to do is set up a SSH key that only gives access to certain directories, for security reasons I don't want it to have full access to my SSH server. I already have the ability to access the directories I need over my local network (right now using SMB, although I also used UPnP for awhile). I need, however, to be able to access those files securely over the internet from both Ubuntu and Windows machines. I'm somewhat new to SSH and not sure what the best approach to solving my problem is. If anyone knows how I can do this or where I can find a detailed tutorial I'd be grateful. And as always if anything is confusing or if there are any comments or corrections please let me know.

• QR Codes Printing, but Not Printing Correctly - Any Ideas?

  I am mail merging some QR codes via file paths stored in Excel into a label template in MS Word 2013. I have the whole process with the Ctrl+F9 working properly, but I am stumped on this: On the 30 label sheet I am trying to print I have 6 labels that are repeating information, and stored in duplicated rows in Excel for this print job. All of the labels have 2 images on them, one is a logo and the other one is a unique QR code for that person. For the first set of 6 labels that print out, everything works perfect. However, from the 2nd time the information is printed onward all of the merged fields and logo look correct, but the QR codes are printing strangely. Basically it's the QR code as I want it, but with a copy of itself covering the top left 25% of the QR code. Print preview doesn't show this happening, only once it's printed does it come out like this. I've been trying everything I can think of to fix this and don't know what to do. So far I've: Recreated the document several times, tried duplicating the images in the source folder and giving the links in the Excel document new file paths in case the mail merge feeding from the same .jpg was an issue (even though it's not a problem with the logo) Any help or insight is greatly appreciate because this is a test run for a larger batch run that I need to get done soon :( Thank you!

• Manual Http error response code in non-existent folder via routing

  Apache server running on ubuntu-like linux I am getting unexpected behaviour when i try to manually send error response. If my .htaccess is responsible for the error response , then appropriate error document is loaded and displayed , with according response code in browser console. However , if my router is origin of the response code , then i get blank screen , but correct response code. .htaccess looks like this RewriteEngine On # RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule !\.(css|js|icon|zip|rar|png|jpg|gif|pdf)$ index.php [L] ErrorDocument 404 /err/404.html ErrorDocument 403 /err/403.html ErrorDocument 500 /err/500.html part of my router that sends the response is the following header("HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden"); trying this format didnt help either header("HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden", TRUE, 403); I also tried HTTP/1.0. Furthermore i was thinking that maybe relative path to error page might be an issue , but discarded this idea after attempting to access a document that is forbidden via .htaccess EDIT I should also point out , this scenario happens when URL for not-existing article is requested. Is it possible that Server is looking for a .htaccess file in a folder based on URL ? Eg: domain/blog/non-existent , is server looking for blog folder ? I am specifically asking this because there is no blog folder

• Picasa(installed using Wine) unable to access some NTFS partitions again in Ubuntu 14.04?

  Recently I installed Picasa in my Ubuntu 14.04 using Wine. After performing a Wine configuration I was able to access all the images in the NTFS partitions on my hard disk. I performed Wine configuration as said in Why can an application installed using Wine not access NTFS partitions?. After 3 days, it became unable to access 2 NTFS partitions. But I can access 1 NTFS partition(named E, see image below). As you can see in the screenshot, I am unable to expand both D and F. How can I fix this issue permanently ?

  I tried the code provided by vba express for combining sheet, while execution it is displaying Run Time error 1004: Application Defined or Object Defined Error: My Scenario is: I have a Excel, in that I have first sheet "Connection" and after it I have Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on.   Dear Sirs, I am sorry if the post is too long, but I would be happy if someone would at least point read the bolded titles, and point me in the right direction. I am having this problem for couple of days, but was unable to found the answer on the net. These are the things I have found out so far. 1. "Access violation" exception crushes my managed application My C# WinForms app sometimes closes with an "Access violation" exception ("Attempted to read or write protected memory"), right in the moment when selecting a TabPage in a windows form TabControl. From the stack trace (try/catch around Application.Run) I can see that the exception happens at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.DispatchMessageW(MSG& msg), called inside UnsafeNativeMethods.IMsoComponentManager.FPushMessageLoop(Int32 dwComponentID, Int32 reason, Int32 pvLoopData). -- Message: Attempted to read or write protected memory.   I have a string which contains 3 elements: a 3 digit code (example: SIN, ABD, SMS, etc) a 1 digit code type (example: 1, 2, 3, etc) a 3 digit number (example: 500, 123, 345) Example string: SIN1500, ABD2123, SMS3345, etc.. I wanted to generate a UNIQUE 10 digit alphanumeric and case sensitive string (only 0-9/a-z/A-Z is allowed), with more than 2^30 (about 1 billion) unique combination per string supplied. The generated code must have a particular algorithm so that I can reverse the process. • How can I dynamically access user control properties?

  Im trying to create a "user control menu" where links to a page's usercontrols are placed at the top of the page. This will allow me to put several usercontrols on a page and allow the user to jump to that section of the page without scrolling so much. In order to do this, I put each usercontrol in a folder (usercontrols) and gave each control a Description property (<%@ Control Language="C#" Description = "Vehicles" .... %>). My question is how can I access this description dynamically? I want to use this description as the link in my menu. So far, I have a foreach on my page that looks in the ControlCollection for a control that is of the ASP.usercontrols type. If it is I would assume that I could access its attributes and grab that description property. How can I do this? (Im also open to a better way to achieve my "user control menu", but maybe thats another question.) Should I use ((System.Web.UI.UserControl)mydynamiccontrol).Attributes.Keys?

• flex and jsf access the same instance of bean

  i integrate a flex app in a jsf-icefaces app (in a jspx site with the ice:outputmedia-tag) and want to access the same instance of a bean from flex by remote, that jsf inject. i already connect with blazeds to a java-bean. this bean - like all other beans - get other beans by injection of jsf, but when i access the bean by remote from flex it doesnt hold the injected beans (like localizer and accesmanager, both session scoped) and i can't connect to the jsf session (FacesContext.getCurrentInstance() is null). this is because flex create a new instance of the bean and it’s not the same current instance, that jsf inject, i think. i can connect from flex to the database by create a new entity manager in the java bean, but that's not what i want, because it's again another entity manager...i want persist and get data over the accessmanager-bean. i know exadel fiji and flamingo, but i couldn't work with fiji, because my jsf app include the icefaces components and then it doesn't work with richfaces which fiji needs. and flamingo work only with jboss seam and spring. is it right? i also read about the spring-flex-integration, but the jsf application did not create with spring and i don't want to integrate spring in such a large jsf app. yesterday i read about the FlexFactory interface. this interface i have to implement in my own Factory and set it in the service-config.xml of blazeds as a factory read this. i still implement my own factory but i only get application scoped beans over the servlet context which i get over FlexContext.getServletContext().getAttribute("Bean"); and not session scoped beans... i hope there is a chance to connect throw flex and jsf... thanks!

  I am using DotNetOpenAuth in my ASP.Net Website. I have modified it to work with Facebook Connect as well, using the same methods and database structures. Now I have come across a problem. I have added a Facebook Connect button to a login page. From that HTML button, I have to somehow pull information from the Facebook Connect connection and pass it into a method to authenticate the user. The way I am currently doing this is by: Calling a Javascript Function on the onlogin function of the FBML/HTML Facebook Connect button. The javascript function calls a Web service to login, which it does correctly. The web service calls my data access layer to login. And here is the problem: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie is set at the data access layer. The Cookie is beyond the scope of the user's page and therefore is not set in the browser. This means that the user is authenticated, but the user's browser is never notified. So, I need to figure out if this is a bad way of doing what I need or if there is a better way to accomplish what I need. I am just not sure and have been trying to find answers for hours. Any help you have would be great.

  I'm converting a VB6 COM object that works with classic ASP to a c# .Net COM Object Interop_COMSVCS.ObjectContext objContext; Interop_COMSVCS.AppServer objAppServer; objAppServer = null; // need to initialize before using objAppServer = new Interop_COMSVCS.AppServer(); objContext = objAppServer.GetObjectContext(); oApplication = (Interop_ASP.Application)objContext["Application"]; oSession = (Interop_ASP.Session)objContext["Session"]; oResponse = (Interop_ASP.Response)objContext["Response"]; oRequest = (Interop_ASP.Request)objContext["Request"]; oSession works to store local information to.from ASP storage oResponse can do simple writes to the browser BUT any code like oRequest.Cookies["sessionId"] or oResponse.Cookies["sessionId"] doesn't provide any sort of read or write access. Any cast or conversion I trry to do tells me I'm dealing with an empty or null System Object. There doesn't seem to be any sort of syntax to get/set the cookie collection. With COM+ I've seesn soem articles that indcate a switch for Access to ASP Intrinsic Objects -- that seesm to describe my issue, but I'd rather not use COM+. There are also some articles that indicate if I was using ASP.NET I could use HttpContext and HttpRequest/Response, but that's a completely different set of data objects that don't seem to be available with classic ASP. I've been stuck on this fopr a few days. Any help appreciated.
