• Restructure XML nodes using XSLT

  Looking to use XSLT to transform my XML. The sample XML is as follows: <root> <info> <firstname>Bob</firstname> <lastname>Joe</lastname> </info> <notes> <note>text1</note> <note>text2</note> </notes> <othernotes> <note>text3</note> <note>text4</note> </othernotes> I'm looking to extract all "note" elements, and have them under a parent node "notes". The result I'm looking for is as follows: <root> <info> <firstname>Bob</firstname> <lastname>Joe</lastname> </info> <notes> <note>text1</note> <note>text2</note> <note>text3</note> <note>text4</note> </notes> </root> The XSLT I attempted to use is allowing me to extract all my "note", however, I can't figure out how I can wrap them back within a "notes" node. • XPath and special characters

  I am having an issue with an XPath query I'm performing for a Sitecore CMS system. This query works fine: /root/content/Meta-Data/Tips/* But when I try this: /root/content/Meta-Data/Tips/*[@SomeAttribute='somekey'] I get an error which says "End of string expected at position 22" which is where the dash character is found. I was under the impression that the dash was not a special character in XML... am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to encode this in some way? Or is this a bug in the XPath parser? Any suggested workarounds?

• Wired component null in seam EntityHome action

  I have a custom EntityHome class. I wire the dependent entity in the wire method, but when I call the action (persist) the wired component is always null. What could be the reason, similar code generated by seam gen is apparently working. Here is the entity class. • Linq to sql Error "Data at the root level is invalid " for nullable xml column

  I have Created a table like CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tab1]( [Id] [int] NOT NULL, [Name] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [Meta] [xml] NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_tab1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [Id] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY] When I am doing linq to sql query to fetch a data it throw an error "data at the root level is invalid linq". In further investigation I come to know that the meta column is null in that case. In real it is nullable Do I have to remove the nullable and set some blank root node as default or there is some another way to get rid of the error. My linq Query which throws error var obj1= (from obj in dbContext.tab1s where obj.id== 123 select obj).FirstOrDefault<Tab1>();

• VARCHAR does not work as expected in Apache Derby

  I'm having this same problem: How can I truncate a VARCHAR to the table field length AUTOMATICALLY in Derby using SQL? To be specific: CREATE TABLE A ( B VARCHAR(2) ); INSERT INTO A B VALUES ('1234'); would throw a SQLException: A truncation error was encountered trying to shrink VARCHAR '123' to length 2. that is already answered: No. You should chop it off after checking the meta-data. Or if you don't wanna check the meta-data everytime, then you must keep both your code and database in sync. But thats not a big deal, its a usual practice in validators. but my doubt is: isn't VARCHAR suppose to variate its size to fit the data? What's wrong with apache derby's VARCHAR?

• Vbscript - Creating a script that mirrors several sets of folders

  Ok, this is my problem. I'm doing a logonscript that basically copies Microsoft Word templates from a serverpath on to a local path of each computer. This is done using a check for group membership. But, if a user is member of more than one group, the /MIR switch removes the content from the first group, since it's mirroring the content from the second group. Meaning, I can't have both contents. This is "solved" by not using the /MIR switch and just let the content get copied anyway. BUT the whole idea of having the templates on a server is so that I can control the content the users receive through the script. So if I delete a file or folder from the server path, this doesn't replicate on the local computer. Since I don't use the /MIR switch anymore. Comprende? So, what do I do? I did a small script that basically checks the folders and files and then removes them accordingly, but this actually ended up being the same functionality as the /MIR switch anyway. How do I solve this problem? Edit: I've found that what I actually need is a routine that scans my local template folder for files and folders and checks if the same structure exists in any of the source template folders. The server template folders are set up like this: \\fileserver\templates\group1\ \\fileserver\templates\group2\ \\fileserver\templates\group3\ \\fileserver\templates\group4\ \\fileserver\templates\group5\ \\fileserver\templates\group6\ And the script that does the copying is structures like this (pseudo): If User is MemberOf (group1) Then RoboCopy.exe \\fileserver\templates\group1\ c:\templates\workgroup *.* /E /XO End if If User is MemberOf (group2) Then RoboCopy.exe \\fileserver\templates\group2\ c:\templates\workgroup *.* /E /XO End if If User is MemberOf (group3) Then RoboCopy.exe \\fileserver\templates\group3\ c:\templates\workgroup *.* /E /XO End if Etc etc With the /E switch, I make sure it copies subfolders as well. And the /XO switch only copies files and folders that are newer than those in my local path. But it doesn't consider if the local path contains files or folders that doesn't exist on the server template path. So after the copying is done, I would like to check if any of the files or folders on my c:\templates\workgroup actually exists in either of the sources. And if they don't, delete them from my local path. Something that could be combined in these memberchecks perhaps?

  I'm programming an app in which one of the ViewControllers is showing an UIScrollView that shows an image. I'd like to load an image (pushpin in png format) and draw it (and delete it) in some points of the UIScrollView image. I'd also would like to draw bezier paths in that image (and deleting them).   This belongs on Meta but I can't ask it there since, well, I can't log in :-) I'm unable to log into my account using my OpenID, josh.gitlin.name on either StackOverflow or Meta. • Have boost effect on lucene/compass field search.

  Hi there, In our compass mapping, we're boosting "better" documents to push them up in the list of search results. Something like this: <boost name="boostFactor" default="1.0"/> <property name="name"><meta-data>name</meta-data></property> While this works fine for fulltext search, it does not when doing a field search, e.g. the boost is ignored when searching something like name:Peter Is there any way to enable boosting for field searches? • When spliting MP4s with ffmpeg how do I include metadata?

  I have a few MP4s that i want to upload to my flickr account but they have a maximum size of 500mb as mine is only about 550 i was planing to simply split them in half then upload them, but i want to make sure all the meta data is included but it does not seem to be.   Hi, My understanding is that there are two obvious places in a Grails app where one can do meta-programming: The init closure of Bootstrap.groovy The doWithDynamicMethods closure of a plugin The meta-programming I'm referring to here should be visible throughout the metaprogramming, typical examples include adding (or replacing) methods of 3rd party classes. String.metaClass.myCustomMethod = { /* implementation omitted */ } The disadvantage of (1), is that the metaprogramming won't be applied when the application is dynamically reloaded. The disadvantage of (2) is that I need to create and maintain an entire plugin just for the sake of a little metaprogramming. Is there a better place to do this kind of metaprogramming? Thanks, Don

• Scala actors: receive vs react

  Let me first say that I have quite a lot of Java experience, but have only recently become interested in functional languages. Recently I've started looking at Scala, which seems like a very nice language. However, I've been reading about Scala's Actor framework in Programming in Scala, and there's one thing I don't understand. In chapter 30.4 it says that using react instead of receive makes it possible to re-use threads, which is good for performance, since threads are expensive in the JVM. Does this mean that, as long as I remember to call react instead of receive, I can start as many Actors as I like? Before discovering Scala, I've been playing with Erlang, and the author of Programming Erlang boasts about spawning over 200,000 processes without breaking a sweat. I'd hate to do that with Java threads. What kind of limits am I looking at in Scala as compared to Erlang (and Java)? Also, how does this thread re-use work in Scala? Let's assume, for simplicity, that I have only one thread. Will all the actors that I start run sequentially in this thread, or will some sort of task-switching take place? For example, if I start two actors that ping-pong messages to each other, will I risk deadlock if they're started in the same thread? According to Programming in Scala, writing actors to use react is more difficult than with receive. This sounds plausible, since react doesn't return. However, the book goes on to show how you can put a react inside a loop using Actor.loop. As a result, you get loop { react { ... } } which, to me, seems pretty similar to while (true) { receive { ... } } which is used earlier in the book. Still, the book says that "in practice, programs will need at least a few receive's". So what am I missing here? What can receive do that react cannot, besides return? And why do I care? Finally, coming to the core of what I don't understand: the book keeps mentioning how using react makes it possible to discard the call stack to re-use the thread. How does that work? Why is it necessary to discard the call stack? And why can the call stack be discarded when a function terminates by throwing an exception (react), but not when it terminates by returning (receive)? I have the impression that Programming in Scala has been glossing over some of the key issues here, which is a shame, because otherwise it's a truly excellent book.

  Is it possible to make xsl:analyze-string return one string instead of a sequence of strings? Background: I'd like to use xsl:analyze-string in a xsl:function that should encapsulate the pattern matching. Ideally, the function should return an xs:string to be used as sort criteria in an xsl:sort element. At the moment, i have to apply string-join() on every result of the function call since xsl:analyze-string returns a sequence of strings, and xsl:sort doesn't accept such a sequence as sort criteria.   For smarty's html_options function, is there a way to avoid having to do this (other than not using smarty that is)? {if $smarty.post} {html_options name=option_1 optins=$options selected=$smarty.post.option_1} {else} {html_options name=option_1 optins=$options} {/if} I realize that it won't show up in the template, but it seems like a bad practice to leave something that is not defined in the template (it also fills up my error logs with noise about undefined indexes).
