    Hello, I am wondering how to limit the amount of tags, the tag_cloud function returns for this plugin. http://github.com/collectiveidea/acts-as-taggable-on Also, I would like to know how to order it so that it orders the tags by the highest count. So the most popular are at the top. I tried to do @tags = Post.tag_counts_on(:tags, :limit = 5) but that did not work.   • Rails: constraint violation on create but not on update

    Note: This is a "railsier" (and more succinct) version of this question, which was getting a little long. I'm getting Rails behavior on a production server that I can't replicate on the development server. The codebases are identical save for credentials and caching settings, and both are powered by Oracle 10g databases with identical schema (but different data). My Rails application contains a user model, which has_one registration; registration in turn has_and_belongs_to_many company_ownerships through a registration_ownerships table. Upon registering, users fill out data pertinent to all three models, including a series of checkboxes indicating what registration_ownerships might apply to their account. On the dev server, the registration process is seamless, no matter what data is entered. On production, however, if users check off any of the company ownership fields before submitting their registration, Oracle complains about a constraint violation on the primary key of the company_ownerships table (which is a two-field key based on company_ownership_id and registration_id) and users get the standard Rails 500 error screen. In every case, I've verified that no conflicting record on these two fields exists in the production database, so I don't know why the constraint is getting violated. To further confuse things, if a user registers without listing any ownerships and later goes back and modifies their account to reflect ownership data (which is done through the same interface), the application happily complies with their request and Oracle is well-behaved (this is both on production and dev). I've spent the past couple days trying to figure out what might be causing this problem and am reaching the end of my wits. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • How to Automatically re-raise Exceptions

    If you wrap a call to HttpResponse.End within a try catch block, the ThreadAbortException would automatically be re-raised. I assume this is the case even if you wrap the try catch block in a try catch block. How can I accomplish the same thing?   • ctags doesn't work when class is defined like "class Gem::SystemExitException"

    You can define a class in a namespace like this class Gem class SystemExitException end end or class Gem::SystemExitException end When code uses first method of class definition, ctags indexes the class definition like this: SystemExitException test_class.rb /^ class SystemExitException$/;" c class:Gem With the second way, ctags indexes it like this: Gem rubygems/exceptions.rb /^class Gem::SystemExitException < SystemExit$/;" c The problem with the second way is that you can't put your cursor (in vim) over a reference to "Gem::SystemExitException" and have that jump straight to the class definition. Your only recourse is to page through all the (110!) class definitions that start with "Gem::" and find the one you're looking for. Does anyone know of a workaround? Maybe I should report this to the maintainer of ctags?

  • Dynamically add User Controls to a Silverlight 4 page

    I am building an iGoogle like "dashboard" for our application with silverlight 4. Each users dashboard (which snapins and their positions) will be stored in the database. Each snap in is a user control, for example... AwesomeSnapin.xaml. On the dashboard page in silverlight I am retrieving the users dashboard which is a collection of snapin objects which include the information on the snapin. I can store the name of the page or the class or whatever is needed. I have the following code which loops through the collection of snapins to add them to the dashboard page. In testing I have just hard coded a single snapin item. Here is the prototype code: foreach (var UserSnapin in op.Entities) { UserControl uc = new AmsiSL.eFinancials.BudgetCheck(); Canvas.SetLeft(uc, UserSnapin.PositionLeft); Canvas.SetTop(uc, UserSnapin.PositionTop); Layout.Children.Add(uc); MessageBox.Show(String.Format("Added {0}",UserSnapin.Snapin.Name)); } The above works fine... but of course adds the BudgetCheck snapin for every item that is defined for the users dashboard. Of course the messagebox is for debugging purposes only. How would I change line 3 of that to load the user control class (using classname or xaml path whichever is better) based on the data in the collection.

  • Rails - Logic for finding info from a :has_many :through needed!

    I have 3 relevant tables. User, Orders, and Viewables The idea is that each User has got many Orders, but at the same time, each User can View specific other Orders that belong to other Users. So Viewables has the attributes of user_id and order_id. Orders has a :has_many :Users, :through => :viewables Is it possible to do a find through an Order's view? So something like @viewable_orders = Orders.find(:all, :conditions = ["Viewable.user_id=?",1]) To get a list of Orders which are viewable by user_id=1. (This doesn't work, else I won't be asking. :( ) The idea being that I can do something like a sidebar where the current user (the logged-in one) can view a list of other people's orders that he can view. For example Three other Users who have some Orders that he can view should be eventually displayed like this: Jack (2) Basic Order (registry_id: 1) New Order (registry_id: 29) Amy (4) Short Order (registry_id: 12) Jill (5) Hardware Order (14) Pink Order (17) Software Order (76) (The number in brackets are the respective user_id or registry_id) So to find the list of all of the orders that the current user can find (assuming user_id of the current user is 1), would be found by doing @viewable_orders = Viewable.find(:all, :conditions => ["user_id=?", 1]) And that would give me the collection of the above 6 registries. Now, the easiest way to do this, is for me to just have a list of + Jill's Hardware Order + Jill's Pink Order + Amy's Short Order + etc But that gets ugly for long lists. Thanks!

  • adding one time options to items

    Hello, I'm building an Event Registration site. For any given event, we'll have a handful of items to choose from. I have a table for these items. For each event we might have special options for users. For example, for one of the events new users get to buy an item which is not available to other users. This may not apply to all the events. For other events we might have some other restriction on items. I will obviously be checking this programmatically on application side. I would like to though, set up a column containing flag in the items table. But I don't find it feasible because this condition may only apply to one particular event. I don't want all the future items to have this column. What is a good approach to take in such a situation? Should I create a special "restrictions" table and just do a join? How would I handle this on the application side?

  • Ruby - Subclassing array to make it randomize when flattened

    I'm trying to subclass Array in ruby to make it randomize its elements when flatten! is called. Looking at the source code for Array#flatten (http://ruby-doc.org/core/classes/Array.src/M002218.html), it looks like it should recursively call flatten! on any array contained within an array. So, I tried doing something like this: class RandArray < Array def randomize! self.sort!{rand(3)-1} end def flatten! randomize! super end end However, when a normal array contains my RandArray and flatten is called on the normal array, flatten! is never called in my array. I figure ruby is just calling some other method to flatten the arrays recursively, but I can't figure out what that is. Any tips?

  • Help replace this SQL cursor with better code

    Can anyone give me a hand improving the performance of this cursor logic from SQL 2000. It runs great in SQl2005 and SQL2008, but takes at least 20 minutes to run in SQL 2000. BTW, I would never choose to use a cursor, and I didn't write this code, just trying to get it to run faster.   • Calling SetWindowsHookEx inside VS2008 debugger always returns NULL

    we're working on a .Net application that does a low level keyboard hook. When we call the SetWindowsHookEx running inside the debugger the call always fail. When running from the compiled executable everything works fine. If we attach to the processs the the SetWindowsHookEx has been called everything works too. I've read somewhere (I can not remember) that VS already does a low level keyboard hook but this shouldn't be a problem as there is the CallNextHook function. Someone knows what's happening? EDIT: The code is pretty straigfoward, the exception is thrown inside debugger but not outside. I am using from_dt as a virtual attribute (string). The 'presence of' and 'format of' validation errors show up on the form, but when the user enters an invalid date format on the form and Date.Parse raises an exception I have a 'errors.add_to_base' statement in the rescue clause. Can anyone tell me why this error does not show up in the form error messages when I disable the 'format of' validation. thanks.

When the other data line in the sample below is used instead of the upper line, it looks better. I find that my app crashes repeatedly when making a request b/c the call is trying to update the sessions table whenever I query the db.     I want to handle a TRttiMethod as anonymous method. How could I do this? Here is a simplified example of how I wish things to work: Interface: TMyClass = class public // this method will be acquired via Rtti procedure Foo; // this method shall return above Foo as anonymous method function GetMethodAsAnonymous: TProc; end; Implementation: function TMyClass.GetMethodAsAnonymous: TProc; var Ctx: TRttiContext; RttiType: TRttiType; RttiMethod: TRttiMethod; begin Ctx := TRttiContext.Create; try RttiType := Ctx.GetType(Self.ClassType); RttiMethod := RttiType.GetMethod('Foo'); Result := ??????; // <-- I want to put RttiMethod here - but how? finally Ctx.Free; end; end;
