• Mysql: Working With 192 Trillion Records... (Yes, 192 Trillion)

  Here's the question... Considering 192 trillion records, what should my considerations be? My main concern is speed. Here's the table... The SELECT's will be done much more frequently than the INSERT. However, occasionally I want to add a few hundred records at a time. Load-wise, there will be nothing for hours then maybe a few thousand queries all at once. Don't think I can normalize any more (need the p values in a combination) The database as a whole is very relational. This will be the largest table by far (next largest is about 900k) UPDATE (08/11/2010) Interestingly, I've been given a second option... Instead of 192 trillion I could store 2.6*10^16 (15 zeros, meaning 26 Quadrillion)... But in this second option I would only need to store one bigint(18) as the index in a table. That's it - just the one column. So I would just be checking for the existence of a value. Occasionally adding records, never deleting them. So that makes me think there must be a better solution then mysql for simply storing numbers... Given this second option, should I take it or stick with the first... • SOAP PHP Parsing Error?

  I'm communicating with a SOAP service created with EJB -- it intermittently fails, and I've found a case where I can reliably reproduce. I'm getting a funky ass SOAP fault that says "looks like we got not XML," however, when retrieving the last response I get what is listed below (and what looks like valid XML to me). Any thoughts? • EXC_BAD_ACCESS in CFAttributedStringSetAttribute and NSNumber?

  Hi all, I am getting an infuriating EXC_BAD_ACCESS error in an objective c app I am working on. Any help you could offer would be much appreciated. I have tried the normal debug methods for this error (turning on NSZombieEnabled, checking retain/release/autorelease to make sure I'm not trying to access a deallocated object, etc.) and it hasn't seemed to help. If I change the length of CFRangeMake from 1 to 0, it takes a lot longer for the program to crash, but still eventually does. (I don't think I am trying to access beyond the bounds of attString, but am I missing something?) When it crashes, I get something similar to: #0 0x942c7ed7 in objc_msgSend () #1 0x00000013 in ??   Hi I have a weird problems with NSArray where some of the members of the objects in my array are going out of scope but not the others: I have a simple object called Section. It has 3 members. @interface Section : NSObject { NSNumber *section_Id; NSNumber *routeId; NSString *startLocationName; } @property(nonatomic,retain) NSNumber *section_Id; @property(nonatomic,retain) NSNumber *routeId; @property(nonatomic,retain) NSString *startLocationName; @end @implementation Section @synthesize section_Id; @synthesize routeId; @synthesize startLocationName; //Some static finder methods to get list of Sections from the db + (NSMutableArray *) findAllSections:{ - (void)dealloc { [section_Id release]; [routeId release]; [startLocationName release]; [super dealloc]; } @end I fill it from a database in a method called findAllSection self.sections = [Section findAllSections]; In find all sections I create some local variables fill them with data from db. NSNumber *secId = [NSNumber numberWithInt:id_section]; NSNumber *rteId = [NSNumber numberWithInt:id_route]; NSString *startName = @""; Then create a new Section and store these local variable's data in the Section Section *section = [[Section alloc] init]; section.section_Id = secId; section.routeId = rteId; section.startLocationName = startName; Then I add the section to the array [sectionsArray addObject:section]; Then I clean up, releasing local variables and the section I added to the array [secId release]; [rteId release]; [startName release]; [locEnd_name release]; [section release]; In a loop repeat for all Sections (release local variables and section is done in every loop) The method returns and I check the array and all the Sections are there. I cant seem to dig further down to see the values of the Section objects in the array (is this possible) Later I try and retrieve one of the Sections I get it from the array Section * section = [self.sections objectAtIndex:row]; Then check the value NSLog(@" SECTION SELECTED:%@",section.section_Id); BUT call to section.section_Id crashed as section.section_Id is out of scope. I check the other members of this Section object and theyre ok. After some trial and error I find that by commenting out the release of the member variable the object is OK. //[secId release]; [rteId release]; [startName release]; [locEnd_name release]; [section release]; My questions are: Am I cleaning up ok? Should I release the object added to an array and the local variable in the function? Is my dealloc ok in Section? Does this code look ok and should I be looking elsewhere for the problem? I'm not doing anything complicated just filling array from DB use it in Table Cell. If its a stupid mistake then tell me (I did put NEWBIE on the question so dont be shocked it was asked) I can comment out the release but would prefer to know why or if code looks ok then ill need further digging. the only place that secId is released is in the dealloc. Am I missing something in the DBIx::Class module? I realize that I could explicitly create the necessary index to match up with this foreign key constraint, but that seems to be repetitive work. Is there something I should be doing to make this occur implicitly?

• my jQuery codes suspected to fail on IE 7

  I have received numerous calls from users lately, stating that they are not able to access the conference sites with IE7. These sites are created from a template, and they are managed on Joomla. Previously on other sites, there have no problems or complaints. However, with the recent complaints , I suspect that the culprit is my simple jQuery codes since the sites that have been reported have been created recently and incorporated with jQuery features. • NServiceBus pipeline with Distributors

  I'm building a processing pipeline with NServiceBus but I'm having trouble with the configuration of the distributors in order to make each step in the process scalable. Here's some info: The pipeline will have a master process that says "OK, time to start" for a WorkItem, which will then start a process like a flowchart. Each step in the flowchart may be computationally expensive, so I want the ability to scale out each step. This tells me that each step needs a Distributor. I want to be able to hook additional activities onto events later. This tells me I need to Publish() messages when it is done, not Send() them. A process may need to branch based on a condition. This tells me that a process must be able to publish more than one type of message. A process may need to join forks. I imagine I should use Sagas for this. Hopefully these assumptions are good otherwise I'm in more trouble than I thought. For the sake of simplicity, let's forget about forking or joining and consider a simple pipeline, with Step A followed by Step B, and ending with Step C. Each step gets its own distributor and can have many nodes processing messages. NodeA workers contain a IHandleMessages processor, and publish EventA NodeB workers contain a IHandleMessages processor, and publish Event B NodeC workers contain a IHandleMessages processor, and then the pipeline is complete. There are basically 2 things that might happen: Both instances of Node B report that it is subscribing to EventA, and also that NodeC.Distrib.Data@MYCOMPUTER is subscribing to the EventB that Node B publishes. In this case, everything works great. Both instances of Node B report that it is subscribing to EventA, however, one worker says NodeC.Distrib.Data@MYCOMPUTER is subscribing TWICE, while the other worker does not mention it. In the second case, which seem to be controlled only by the way the distributor routes the subscription messages, if the "overachiever" node processes an EventA, all is well. If the "underachiever" processes EventA, then the publish of EventB has no subscribers and the workflow dies. So, my questions: Is this kind of setup possible? Is the configuration correct? It's hard to find any examples of configuration with distributors beyond a simple one-level publisher/2-worker setup. Would it make more sense to have one central broker process that does all the non-computationally-intensive traffic cop operations, and only sends messages to processes behind distributors when the task is long-running and must be load balanced? Then the load-balanced nodes could simply reply back to the central broker, which seems easier. On the other hand, that seems at odds with the decentralization that is NServiceBus's strength. And if this is the answer, and the long running process's done event is a reply, how do you keep the Publish that enables later extensibility on published events?

• python list mysteriously getting set to something within my django/piston handler

  To start, I'm very new to python, let alone Django and Piston. Anyway, I've created a new BaseHandler class "class BaseApiHandler(BaseHandler)" so that I can extend some of the stff that BaseHandler does. This has been working fine until I added a new filter that could limit results to the first or last result. Now I can refresh the api page over and over and sometimes it will limit the result even if I don't include /limit/whatever in my URL... I've added some debug info into my return value to see what is happening, and that's when it gets more weird. this return value will make more sense after you see the code, but here they are for reference: When the results are correct: "statusmsg": "2 hours_detail found with query: {'empid':'22','datestamp':'2009-03-02',}", when the results are incorrect (once you read the code you'll notice two things wrong. First, it doesn't have 'limit':'None', secondly it shouldn't even get this far to begin with.   In scipy fmin_slsqp (Sequential Least Squares Quadratic Programming), I tried reading the code 'slsqp.py' provided with the scipy package, to find what are the criteria to get the exit_modes 0? I cannot find which statements in the code produce this exit mode?   when i take a look at the paypal documentation, they say "Note that the PayPal SDK for PHP does not require SSL encryption". https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/api/apiCredentials/#encrypting-your-certificate Is the statement of this phrase, that i don't have to create a p12 certificate when working with php, but use the public_key.pem and paypal_public_key.pem? If yes: Is it secure enough to create the encrypted form input elements without p12 certificate? • Hibernate without primary keys generated by db?

  I'm building a data warehouse and want to use InfiniDB as the storage engine. However, it doesn't allow primary keys or foreign key constraints (or any constraints for that matter). Hibernate complains "The database returned no natively generated identity value" when I perform an insert. Each table is relational, and contains a unique integer column that was previously used as the primary key - I want to keep that, but just not have the constraint in the db that the column is the primary key. I'm assuming the problem is that Hibernate expects the db to return a generated key. • strange behavior while including a class in php

  I'm experiencing a strange behavior with PHP. Basically I want to require a class within a PHP script. I know it is straight forward and I did it before but when I do so, it change the behavior of my jquery (1.8.3) ajax response. I'm running a wamp setup and my PHP version is 5.4.6. The strange thing is that my result always fall under the default switch statement and the ajax response fit both present statement. I noticed then if I just paste the Container class on the top of the handler.php file, everything works properly but it kind of defeat what I try to achieve. I tried different way to include the Container class but it seem to be than the issue is specific to this current scenario. • Min-Ordered Bionomial Heap Insertion java

  Im writing a java code to make a min-ordered Binomial Heap and I have to Insert and Remove-min. I'm having a very big problem inserting into the Heap. I have been stuck on this for a couple of days now and it is due tomorrow. Whenever I go to insert, It only prints out the item I insert instead of the whole tree (which is in preorder). Such as if I insert 1 it prints (1) and then I go to insert 2 it prints out (2) instead of (1(2)) It keeps printing out only the number I insert last instead of the whole preordered tree. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this problem. • Metro: Introduction to the WinJS ListView Control

  The goal of this blog entry is to provide a quick introduction to the ListView control – just the bare minimum that you need to know to start using the control. When building Metro style applications using JavaScript, the ListView control is the primary control that you use for displaying lists of items. For example, if you are building a product catalog app, then you can use the ListView control to display the list of products. The ListView control supports several advanced features that I plan to discuss in future blog entries. For example, you can group the items in a ListView, you can create master/details views with a ListView, and you can efficiently work with large sets of items with a ListView. In this blog entry, we’ll keep things simple and focus on displaying a list of products. There are three things that you need to do in order to display a list of items with a ListView: Create a data source Create an Item Template Declare the ListView Creating the ListView Data Source The first step is to create (or retrieve) the data that you want to display with the ListView. In most scenarios, you will want to bind a ListView to a WinJS.Binding.List object. The nice thing about the WinJS.Binding.List object is that it enables you to take a standard JavaScript array and convert the array into something that can be bound to the ListView. It doesn’t matter where the JavaScript array comes from. It could be a static array that you declare or you could retrieve the array as the result of an Ajax call to a remote server. The following JavaScript file – named products.js – contains a list of products which can be bound to a ListView. This object is initialized with a plain-old JavaScript array which represents an array of products. To avoid polluting the global namespace, the code above uses the module pattern and exposes the products using a namespace. The list of products is exposed to the world as ListViewDemos.products. It doesn’t know how you want each list item to appear. To get the ListView control to render something useful, you must create an Item Template. Normally, you will declare your template in the same file as you declare the ListView control. In our case, both the template and ListView are declared in the default.html file. Here’s the markup for declaring a ListView: <div data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource:ListViewDemos.products.dataSource, itemTemplate:select('#productTemplate') }"> </div> You declare a ListView by adding the data-win-control to an HTML DIV tag. The data-win-options attribute is used to set two properties of the ListView. The ListView is associated with its data source with the itemDataSource property. Notice that the data source is ListViewDemos.products.dataSource and not just ListViewDemos.products. You need to associate the ListView with the dataSoure property. The ListView is associated with its item template with the help of the itemTemplate property. The ID of the item template — #productTemplate – is used to select the template from the page. • Package Dependencies Error in almost every install

  New to Ubuntu. In the other sofware sources i have "Debian 4.0 eth" officially supported "non-us.debian.org/"; etc ... "ppa.launcpad.net" and installing applications has stopped working. I think i first came across this problem after installing Blender 2.58 When using update manager it is prompting for a partial upgrade.
