  • Best Data Access Methods for New Web Application

    - by user98454
I'm building a new web application project and am confused by the numerous methods of performing data access. I'm backending on SQL and a bit confused whether to use LINQ to SQL or trtaditional ADO.net ? what are the advantages and disadvantages of using LINQ/SQL over ADO.net? If it is ADO.net,then what is the best way to retrieve data means either calling the stored procedures or directly calling the t-sql code? My question is what is cleanes and most effiecient and professional way of creating DAL for webapplication in asp.net? Thanks

  • Uniquely identifying mobile devices over a network for webforms

    - by Eric
I'm designing a system for mobile devices that can be assigned only to one job at a time. So I need to be able to know which mobile device is being used by accessing it's own unique static IP address or its device ID. I don't want to assign an ID myself for every machine that comes in which is why a static IP would work great. However, in trying to retrieve the client ip address I'm retrieving the wireless router's ip or some other ip which is not the mobile device's ip. I want to store that ip in a table and control which jobs are assigned to it. How can I accomplish this? I've tried the following but I'm getting the wireless ip: var hostEntry = Dns.GetHostEntry(Dns.GetHostName()); var ip = ( from addr in hostEntry.AddressList where addr.AddressFamily.ToString() == "InterNetwork" select addr.ToString() ).FirstOrDefault(); I'd rather not set a cookie if there exists a better alternative. TIA!

  • Selecting radiobuttons populated within asp.net RadioButtonList with jQuery

    - by user194881
Hello and thanks in advance for the communal help I always find here. I have been tinkering around with what should seem a pretty straight forward task even for a jQuery newb as myself. I have a radiobuttonlist control bound to a collection: <asp:RadioButtonList ID="radBtnLstPackageSelector" runat="server" CssClass="PackageS"> </asp:RadioButtonList> My form does have several other controls of the same type; Now, the challenge is to select and wire up a on Click event for every radiobutton from the radBtnLstPackageSelector. I have tried several approaches such as: var results1 = $(".PackageS").children("input"); var results1 = $(".PackageS").children("input[type=radiobutton"); var results1 = $("table.PackageS > input[type=radiobutton"); with no luck... Your help would be great right now! ~m

  • Why doesn't AJAX History work in IE7 as it does in IE8 and every other browser?

    - by Nick
I have two ASP.NET pages, say page1 and page2. Page1 contains an update panel and I use AJAX History to allow browser back/forward button support. Users can navigate to page2 via page1 - I do a response.redirect server-side so that I can store in a session what options were on page1 when they left. On page2, a user can click the back button and return to page1 with it displaying what was there prior to navigating to page2. You can click the back button again on page1 to go back to other selectively chosen history states. This all works great in IE8, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. However, in IE7 it doesn't. The user can get back to page1 from page2, but when they click the back button again it doesn't show the previous states of page1 - it displays the original page load content. The history data looks to still be encoded in the url when using ie7 but is not working for some reason. Does anyone know why this is happening in IE7 and how I can get around this? It really needs to work in IE7 as most of our users are on IE7. Please help.

  • How do I access static variables in an enum class without a class instance?

    - by krick
    I have some code that processes fixed length data records. I've defined the record structures using java enums. I've boiled it down the the simplest example possible to illustrate the hoops that I currently have to jump through to get access to a static variable inside the enum. Is there a better way to get at this variable that I'm overlooking? If you compile and run the code, it just prints out "3". Note: the "code" tag doesn't seem to want to format this properly, but it should compile. class EnumTest { private interface RecordLayout { public int length(); } private enum RecordType1 implements RecordLayout { FIELD1 (2), FIELD2 (1), ; private int length; private RecordType1(int length) { this.length = length; } public int length() { return length; } public static int LEN = 3; } private static <E extends Enum<E> & RecordLayout> String parse(String data, Class<E> record) { // ugly hack to get at LEN... try { int len = record.getField("LEN").getInt(record); System.out.println(len); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println(e); } String results = ""; for (E field: record.getEnumConstants()) { // do some stuff with the fields } return results; } public static void main(String args[]) { parse("ABC", RecordType1.class); } }

    - by user175084
I have a tree view like this and i want to navigate to 3 different pages using response .redirect --machine groups (main) ----dept (Parent) ------xyz (child) protected void TreeView2_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (TreeView2.SelectedValue == "Machine Groups") { Response.Redirect("~/Gridviewpage.aspx"); } else switch (e.Node.Depth) { case 0: Response.Redirect("~/Machineupdate.aspx?node=" + TreeView2.SelectedNode.Value); break; case 1: Response.Redirect("~/MachineUpdatechild.aspx?node=" + TreeView3.SelectedNode.Value); break; } } } now if i put EventArgs it points to an error on e.Node that system.EventArgs does not contain definition for Node. If i replace EventArgs with TreeNodeEventArgs then that error goes but i get an error on compilation. Compiler Error Message: CS0123: No overload for 'TreeView2_SelectedNodeChanged' matches delegate 'System.EventHandler' <asp:TreeView ID="TreeView2" runat="server" OnUnload="TreeViewMain_Unload" ontreenodepopulate="TreeView2_TreeNodePopulate" onselectednodechanged="TreeView2_SelectedNodeChanged"> <Nodes> <asp:TreeNode PopulateOnDemand="True" Text="Machine Groups" Value="Machine Groups"></asp:TreeNode> </Nodes> </asp:TreeView> Please help me out.... • Dynamic filter expressions in an OpenAccess LINQ query

We had some support questions recently where our customers had the need to combine multiple smaller predicate expressions with either an OR or an AND  logical operators (these will be the || and && operators if you are using C#). And because the code from the answer that we sent to these customers is very interesting, and can easily be refactorred into something reusable, we decided to write this blog post. The key thing that one must know is that if you want your predicate to be translated by OpenAccess ORM to SQL and executed on the server you must have a LINQ Expression that is not compiled. So, let’s say that you have these smaller predicate expressions: Expression<Func<Customer, bool>> filter1 = c => c.City.StartsWith("S");Expression<Func<Customer, bool>> filter2 = c => c.City.StartsWith("M");Expression<Func<Customer, bool>> filter3 = c => c.ContactTitle == "Owner"; And ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • AngularJS dealing with large data sets (Strategy)

    - by Brian
I am working on developing a personal temperature logging viewer based on my rasppi curl'ing data into my web server's api. Temperatures are taken every 2 seconds and I can have several temperature sensors posting data. Needless to say I will have a lot of data to handle even within the scope of an hour. I have implemented a very simple paging api from the server so the server doesn't timeout and is currently only returning data in 1000 units per call, then paging through the data. I had the idea to intially show say the last 20 minutes of data from a sensor (or all sensors depending on user choices), then allowing the user to select other timeframes from which to show data. The issue comes in when you want to view all sensors or an extended time period (say 24 hours). Is there a best practice of handling this large amount of data? Would it be useful to load those first 20 minutes into the live view and then cache into local storage something like the last 24 hours? I haven't been able to find a decent idea of this in use yet even though there are a lot of ways to take this problem. I am just looking for some suggestions as to what might provide a good balance between good performance and not caching the entire data set on the client side (as beyond a week of data this might not be feasible).
