• ORM on which standards i can select?

  Q: This question is about how can i figure or select the convenient ORM to my web application. when beginning a new web application,What are the criteria on which i can consider a specific ORM is better than another one for my project or case(web application)? another part of my question : when i begin any web application i use three layers: the DB layer (which contains the connections , and handle the CRUD operations ) the Managers layer(the Data Access Layer) a class for each table on my db (loosely coupled with the previous layer )it contains the CRUD operations for the specific table and the other required operations. the interface layer.. and i use Object Data source.Is that considered as an ORM (as a concept) or I'm wrong in understanding this concept. note:I still a beginner in this field ,, and every day i learn more about web development. please i want explanation and suggestions for this point.   I am trying to add a global shortcut to a gtk.MenuItem which has a sub menu. Here is my code: import pygtk, gtk import keybinder dlg = gtk.Dialog('menu test') dlg.set_size_request(200, 40) menubar = gtk.MenuBar() menubar.show() menuitem = gtk.MenuItem('foo') menuitem.show() menubar.append(menuitem) mitem = gtk.MenuItem('bar') mitem.show() menu = gtk.Menu() menu.add(mitem) menu.show() menuitem.set_submenu(menu) def show_menu_cb(): menubar.select_item(menuitem) keybinder.bind('<Super>i', show_menu_cb) dlg.vbox.pack_start(menubar) dlg.show() dlg.run() When I press the key menu pops up, I can then select items in the sub menu or press Esc to make it disappear. But after that the menuitem keeps selected and other windows never get input focus again. I have to click on the menuitem twice to get everything back normal.

  Hi, I have a select form element with 5 options. If option 2 is selected I want to display another form input box (this has a style of display:none initially). How can I attach an event to option 2 so that whenever it is selected the input box is shown otherwise it is hidden. I have this currently but this does not handle is option 2 is already selected when the page loads $('#type').change(function(){ var typeSelected = $(this).val(); if (typeSelected == 2) { $('#extraInput').show(); } }); I know I could add another bit of code which checks what is selected on page load but wondered if there was a neater way of doing this. Also something that could handle the hiding of the input box if option 2 is not selected at the start as currently I have just hard-coded style="display:none" onto the input box but I would prefer this to be dynamic.   I have this data structure: request ======= building_id lot_code building ======== building_id lot_id lot === lot_id lot_code The request table is missing the value for the building_id column and I want to fill it in from the other tables. So I've tried this: UPDATE request SET building_id = ( SELECT bu.building_id FROM building bu INNER JOIN lot lo ON bu.lot_id=lo.lot_id WHERE lo.lot_code = request.lot_code ); But I'm getting this error: Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , , = or when the subquery is used as an expression. Is it due to wrong syntax? The data model allows more than one building per lot but actual data doesn't contain such cases so there should be at most one building_id per lot_code.

For example, we have the following structure in our XML: <item> <latitude/> <longitude/> </item> I want to see if there are any records that have latitude/longitude in the opposite order i.e. <longitude/> then <latitude/>. I've tried some XPath expressions but with no luck.

  Hi there! I'm trying to determine a subset of nodes stored in the variable objs by using a user defined function cube:is_active: <xsl:variable name="active_cubes" select="$objs[cube:is_active(XXX) = 'TRUE']"/ Since the function does not allow a local context I'm required to pass it as a parameter (denoted by XXX). However, the usual suspects "." or "current()" do not work since they refer to context node of the surrounding block and NOT to the current element of objs which is evaluated. The only solution so far which DOES work is: XXX=SOME_CHILD_TAG/.. But this is really ugly since it depends on the existence of the child tag for the parent node to work correctly. Is there any other way? Thanks!

• Z-Index problems with IE6 and html <select> element

  I have a <div> that opens up on a jquery hover event (display goes from hidden to block). Sometime it's opens up over some form elements. And of course it works fine in all browsers except IE6. <select> boxes bleed through as if there z-index is higher than the <div> tag. I've tried setting the <div> tag with a higher z-index, but it still gets ignored by IE6. I'm hoping to implement any fix -- jquery or css, I really don't care at this point. Any ideas?

• Troubleshooting occasional timeout of select() in windows

  I'm having an occasional problem with select() timing out on me. I have it set for twenty seconds. The system will handle 100's of transactions correctly, but occasionally one fails with the selet timing out. It does about 1 transaction every few seconds, opening and closing the tcp conncetion with each transaction. I thought the server my app was connecting to might have to many connection attempts pending, but no 4226 events are showing up in the logs One more point thing I noticed when using wireshark that I'm getting a SYN,RST in response to the SYN I am appearently sending. This only happens a few times over the first second or two, then I don't see any more activity in Wireshark

I would like to select the books according to a list of tags. For example : selected tags list : {A,B} - book 1 My idea was to use the MINUS SQL function, to subtract book tags list to the selected tags list, and return the book if the list was empty. Unfortunately, this SQL function is not supported by HQL. Any idea about that ?

  I am using an alphabetical sorting feature and need a SQL statement to return records beginning with a variable length string. However, records also need to be returned if there are periods, spaces, or dashes between any of the characters in the string. For example, the string could be "M" (easy). Or "MA" (in which case it needs to return records starting with "MA", "M.A", "M A", and "M-A"). Or "MAA", and so on. This is the statement I have so far: "SELECT * from table where LEFT(name," + value.Length + ")='" + value + "'" But I can't work out how to get it to return results where there are periods, spaces or dashes in name. Any help constructing the statement would be great.

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement.   I'm using Rails 3. I want to create a select tag with some options grouped and others not grouped. Options would look something like this: Income Auto Fuel Maintenance Home Maintenance Mortgage In this example, Income is not a group, but Auto and Home are. I see three helper methods grouped_options_for_select and grouped_collection_select, option_groups_from_collection_for_select. Is there a way to use a helper to do this or will I have to generate the HTML myself? I imagine I could use two different helpers to create the options and just append the results of both.

I'm not getting the escapes right. It's something like this where 'Code', 'Description' and 'Absent' are the columns I want from the table.
