• How to 'insert if not exists' in MySQL?

  I started by googling, and found this article which talks about mutex tables. I have a table with ~14 million records. If I want to add more data in the same format, is there a way to ensure the record I want to insert does not already exist without using a pair of queries (ie, one query to check and one to insert is the result set is empty)? Does a unique constraint on a field guarantee the insert will fail if it's already there? It seems that with merely a constraint, when I issue the insert via php, the script croaks.

  I am building a taxi dispatching app first: I need the passenger app to show the nearest taxis, now I know how to do that in code but in my way I have to go through all the taxis locations(in database on server) and calculate the distance from the passenger location and get the lowest ones - I don't want to do this because there will be a lot of taxis and going through all of them and making some math is kind of pain on the server- is there a way to get the nearest ones without going through all of them? second: what the best database to use - first, should it be sql or non-sql - I need a very robust database, because there will be a lot of updates (I mean the passengers locations added then deleted when arriving to destination && the taxis location changes frequently) finally: I will use RubyOnRails to do the server side and json as data transfer format, do you have a recommendation to me on something better? • Force Decimal Regex

  Hi, I'm looking for a regex or a way to format the NumberValidator so that only decimal places are allowed. The domain="real" allows you to put integer values, but I need to force the user to but in 2.0 if they want an integer. This is because they pass through a Castor mapping file, it complains if it gets an integer when it expects a decimal. I dont want to restrict the number of decimal places, just insist that there must be a point, and a number after it. Any help would be much appreciated.

  I've a project that connects to a dBase format database file, that I've always done in the past with a connection string of the form of: PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=MyData.dbf;Extended Properties=dBASE 5.0 I've had to revisit this recently, and have found that when attempting to create an OleDbConnection with that connection string on x64 machines, that have an x86 install of Office on it, it throws an exception. A quick hack of a fix shows that forcing the application to target x86 only makes it work, but I was hoping to be able to tidy this up and check in advance whether it would fail to create the connection, so that I could customise my import options to suit the available providers. Is it possible to enumerate the available data providers for the current processor architecture? (other than relying on catching the exception -- after all, the Framework Design Guidelines suggest that you should only throw in exceptional circumstances, and you have a method to check if something would throw an exception)

But I may need to deal with more file types in near future. I looked at Aspose.Words, it works good but for doc only. • MySQL: Limit output according to associated ID

  So here's my situation. I have a books table and authors table. An author can have many books... In my authors page view, the user (logged in) can click an author in a tabled row and be directed to a page displaying the author's books (collected like this URI format: viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23), very straight forward... However, in my query, I need to display the books for the author only, and not all books stored in the books table (as i currently have!) As I am a complete novice, I used the most simple query of: SELECT * FROM tasks_tb This returns the books for me, but returns every single value (book) in the database, and not ones associated with the selected author. And when I click a different author the same books are displayed for them...I think everyone gets what I'm trying to achieve, I just don't know how to perform the query. I'm guessing that I need to start using more advanced query clauses like INNER JOIN etc. Anyone care to help me out :)

  I'm reading some data from avro file using the avro library. It takes about a minute to load 33K objects from the file. This seem very slow to me, specially with the Java version reading the same file in about 1sec. • Rendering a different controller and action while keeping errors

  I have a form in one controller(A) that renders a partial from another controller(B), and stays on A's edit page during editing / updating etc. However... When the partial form form controller B has an error, the error doesn't show up on A's edit page right now, if there is an error, I am doing (in controller B's update method) redirect_to :controller => "A", :action => "edit" and then this is built in... but I don't know what to do with it... the error needs to be sent to controller A... but.. it doesn't format.xml { render :xml => @varFromB.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } thanks

  Is there any Python library that allows me to parse an HTML document similar to what jQuery does? i.e. I'd like to be able to use CSS selector syntax to grab an arbitrary set of nodes from the document, read their content/attributes, etc. The only Python HTML parsing lib I've used before was BeautifulSoup, and even though it's fine I keep thinking it would be faster to do my parsing if I had jQuery syntax available. :D Write an iterative program that finds the largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity. • FtpWebResponse and StreamReader - specifying an offset

  Hi, I am using the FtpWebRequest / FtpWebResponse objects in C# to download files from a server - so far, so good. I create a StreamReader object from the response stream and use a StreamWriter to create a local file. Now, the file I am reading happens to be in a very simple 'archive' format - there is a small TOC at the start of the file followed by the actual file data. I can therefore read the TOC and get a file offset and size of the data I want to download. My question is: Supposing the offset is 1024. I would use StreamReader.Read(buffer, 1024, length), but will .NET and the FTP protocol actually allow me to skip bytes 0-1023, or does the reader still go through the (relatively) slow process of downloading and discarding the bytes I don't need? This may make the difference between whether I want to use a single archive file, or a TOC file with the data files stored separately. As a bit of a secondary question, would my mileage vary using the Http classes instead of Ftp? Cheers, Adam

  Hi, I am using Rackspace Cloud CDN (Limelight CDN) for my website. The URLs of the CDN are in the format http://cxxxxxx.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/something.jpg My domain is mydomain.com. Can I use IIS URL rewriting to show http://cxxxxxx.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/something.jpg as http://images.mydomain.com/something.jpg? Or is this impossible without the CDN setup accepting my CNAME? If so, can you please help create the URL rewrite rule? (Sorry, don't know how to use regular expressions) Thanks, WT

  If in a database (MySQL), I have a datetime column (ex. 1899-12-30 19:00:00), how do I sum 1 day to it? Following http://corelib.rubyonrails.org/classes/Time.html#M000240 If I want to add 1 day, it actually adds 60*60*24 days (86,400 days) r=Record.find(:first) =>Sat, 30 Dec 1899 19:00:00 -0600 r.date + (60*60*24) =>Fri, 20 Jul 2136 19:00:00 -0600 But if I do this it actually adds 1 day: t = Time.now =>Mon Jun 14 10:32:51 -0600 2010 t + (60 * 60 * 24) =>Tue Jun 15 10:33:21 -0600 2010 I guess it has to do with the format...how do I make this work?

• Problems with mod_rewrite and 301 redirects from one dynamic url to another

  Hey all, I'm having all kinds of problems with a bunch of apache redirects just now and could really use some help! I'm wating to put in a 301 redirect for a load of urls from a client's old site to their new site in the following format; Old - page.php?pageNum_rs_all=0&totalRows_rs_all=112 New - page/sub?foo=bar The values in the query sting for the old site don't in any way tie up to any ids or references on the new site, I only want to match that specific request and redirect to the new page. It feels like I've tried just about every combination of rewriterule I can find online but still nothing seems to be working. This is running on Apache 2.2. The rule I started with (and keep going back to) is; RewriteRule ^/page.php\?pageNum_rs_all=0&totalRows_rs_all=112 /page/sub?foo=bar [R=301,L,NE] Any help would be greatly appreciated! c.

  I'm new to Python scripting, so please forgive me in advance if the answer to this question seems inherently obvious. I'm trying to put together a large-scale find-and-replace script using Python. Specifically, I want it to find some information (metadata) specified at the top of a text file. Eg: Title: This is the title Author: This is the author Date: This is the date and convert it into LaTeX format. Eg: \title{This is the title} \author{This is the author} \date{This is the date} Maybe I'm tackling this the wrong way. If there's a better way than regular expressions please let me know! Thanks!

I'm getting crazy searching functions to do that but now i can't see anyone in Javascript. modified End expected format will be first the next: array[0]='255 250 250 snow (255 250 250)' Then i wanna take it and extract each line into some vars to use them: colour[0]=255; colour[1]=250; colour[2]=250; string=snow (255 250 250); (the vars will be reused with each line)

Pastebin API uses paste_code as its main data input, but it can use optional things like paste_name that sets the name of the upload or paste_private that sets it private.

My goal is to save QPixmap data into a QByteArray and save that QByteArray to a file (with the ability to read this QByteArray back from the file and into a QPixmap). I want to use following code from the QPixmap documentation: QPixmap pixmap(<image path>); QByteArray bytes; QBuffer buffer(&bytes); buffer.open(QIODevice::WriteOnly); pixmap.save(&buffer, "PNG"); // writes pixmap into bytes in PNG format After writing the buffer to a file, I want to be able to retrieve the QByteArray and load it back into a QPixmap using the QPixmap::loadFromData() function.   I sometimes need to search code for patterns in a way that goes beyond the regex capabilities of Visual Studio (e.g. patterns that depend on what was seen previously in the file or on the contents of other files). So I use Perl to analyze the source and output matching lines, along with the file name and line number. Since this is the exact same format as is produced by the search feature of Visual Studio, I wonder if there is a way to duplicate the functionality where I can double-click on a line and it will display that line in context in Visual Studio. Any ideas?

  I need to append/format a url with a list of ids for an api call however, when i put the list at the end of the api https://api.twitter.com/1.1/users/lookup.json?user_id=%s'%a i just get an empty string as a response. i have tried turning the list into a string and removing the square brackets doing a = str(followers['ids'])[1:-1] but i still get the same problem. and im assuming that its being caused by the single quote at the start. i have tried removing the apostrophe from the string doing a.replace("'", "") and now i have run out of ideas thanks
