• Is there a way to pass a custom type from C# to Oracle using System.Data.OracleClient?

  I was searching online for a solution to passing a string array to a stored procedure in Oracle. The "easy" but messy way was using a comma delimited string. I had found a sample based on which I created my own type of TABLE of VARCHAR2(200). I understood that I could use a constructor created "behind-the-scenes" by Oracle to give a list of values that would, in the PL/SQL, be treated as a TABLE I could iterate through. But when I got to the C# I saw that there is no way for me to create an OracleParameter object that would allow me to use this implicit constructor. All the samples I'm finding online for now are dealing with Oracle Data Adapter, none say anything about System.Data.OracleClient. Is there a way to achieve this?

  I have several layers of function calls, passing around a common dictionary of key word arguments: def func1(**qwargs): func2(**qwargs) func3(**qwargs) I would like to supply some default arguments in some of the subsequent function calls, something like this: def func1(**qwargs): func2(arg = qwargs.get("arg", default), **qwargs) func3(**qwargs) The problem with this approach is that if arg is inside qwargs, a TypeError is raised with "got multiple values for keyword argument". I don't want to set qwargs["arg"] to default, because then func3 gets this argument without warrant. I could make a copy.copy of the qwargs and set "arg" in the copy, but qwargs could have large data structures in it and I don't want to copy them (maybe copy.copy wouldn't, only copy.deepcopy?). What's the pythonic thing to do here?

  I have a DataGrid. In the DataGrid's AutoGeneratingColumn event I have some code that looks like this: if (e.Property.Name.Contains("MetaData")) { var descCol = new DataGridTextColumn(e.Property); var bnd = new Binding("Description"); bnd.Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay; descCol.Binding = bnd; e.Column = descCol; e.Column.Header = "Description"; return; } The column binds to a type MetaData which has a string property named Description that I would like displayed in my DataGrid. So far I've been unable to get the value of the Description property to display in my DataGrid. I think the path I am passing into the Binding constructor might be incorrect. I've tried "MetaData.Description" as well and it doesn't work either. Can anyone help me properly set up the binding on my DataGridTextColumn?

When passing from A.swf, it gets a Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. • Marshal a list of objects from VB6 to C#

  I have a development which requires the passing of objects between a VB6 application and a C# class library. The objects are defined in the C# class library and are used as parameters for methods exposed by other classes in the same library. The objects all contain simple string/numeric properties and so marshaling has been relatively painless. We now have a requirement to pass an object which contains a list of other objects. If I was coding this in VB6 I might have a class containing a collection as a member variable. In C# I might have a class with a List member variable. Is it possible to construct a C# class in such a way that the VB6 application could populate this inner list and marshal it successfully? I don't have a lot of experience here but I would guess Id have to use an array of Object types.

I have no problem of showing multiple auto completes but problem comes when one selects options from auto complete. I have seen that autocompet.js uses id toValues to show selected option from autocomlte. So if there is only one autocomplete on one form then we can have one element as toValues to show the selected value. But if we have multiple auto completes then how to show the selected item of each auto complete as separately? • How can I Convert XML to an Object using Spring 3.0 mvc while making RESTful request

  Hi, I'm using the Spring 3.0 RC1 framework and I'm currently testing out Spring mvc. I wanted to use Spring mvc to handle restful requests. I have set up my controller to handle the URI request. I am passing in xml with the request. So on the controller I have a method like follows: public void request(RequestObject request) { doSomething(); } I am having a hard time converting the xml to the RequestObject. I haven't seen much documentation on this and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I'm guess that you would have to annotate the RequestObject using JAXB or something in order to tell Spring to convert the xml file to RequestObject but I'm not sure. Thanks for all of your help!!

• Backing Up Transaction Logs to Tape?

  I'm about to put my database in Full Recovery Model and start taking transaction log backups. I am taking a full nightly backup to another server and later in the evening this file and many others are backed up to tape. My question is this. I will take hourly (or more if necessary) t-log backups and store them on the other server as well. However, if my full backups are passing DBCC and integrity checks, do I need to put my T-Logs on tape? If someone wants point in time recovery to yesterday at 2pm, I would need the previous full backup and the transaction logs. However, other than that case, if I know my full back ups are good, is there value in keeping the previous day's transaction log backups?

• Can a class inherit from LambdaExpression in .NET? Or is this not recommended?

  Consider the following code (C# 4.0): public class Foo : LambdaExpression { } This throws the following design-time error: Foo does not implement inherited abstract member System.Linq.Expressions.LambdaExpression.Accept(System.Linq.Expressions.Compiler.StackSpiller) There's absolutely no problem with public class Foo : Expression { } but, out of curiosity and for the sake of learning, I've searched in Google System.Linq.Expressions.LambdaExpression.Accept(System.Linq.Expressions.Compiler.StackSpiller) and guess what: zero results returned (when was the last time you saw that?). Needless to say, I haven't found any documentation on this method anywhere else. As I said, one can easily inherit from Expression; on the other hand LambdaExpression, while not marked as sealed (Expression<TDelegate> inherits from it), seems to be designed to prevent inheriting from it. Is this actually the case? Does anyone out there know what this method is about? EDIT (1): More info based on the first answers - If you try to implement Accept, the editor (C# 2010 Express) automatically gives you the following stub: protected override Expression Accept(System.Linq.Expressions.ExpressionVisitor visitor) { return base.Accept(visitor); } But you still get the same error. If you try to use a parameter of type StackSpiller directly, the compiler throws a different error: System.Linq.Expressions.Compiler.StackSpiller is inaccessible due to its protection level. EDIT (2): Based on other answers, inheriting from LambdaExpression is not possible so the question as to whether or not it is recommended becomes irrelevant. I wonder if, in cases like this, the error message should be Foo cannot implement inherited abstract member System.Linq.Expressions.LambdaExpression.Accept(System.Linq.Expressions.Compiler.StackSpiller) because [reasons go here]; the current error message (as some answers prove) seems to tell me that all I need to do is implement Accept (which I can't do).

• Can I configure the ResetPassword in Asp.Net's MembershipProvider?

  I have an C# asp.net app using the default Sql MembershipProvider. My web.config has a few settings that control how I'm using this Provider: enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresUniqueEmail="true" passwordFormat="Hashed" minRequiredPasswordLength="5" The problem I'm running into is that when people reset their passwords, it seems the ResetPassword() method returns a password that is longer than I want and has characters that can be confusing (l,1,i,I,0,O). Furthermore, I'm sending my users an email with a plain-text message and an HTML message (I'm using MailMessage with AlternateViews). If the password has unsafe HTML characters in it, when the email clients render the HTML text the password might be different (e.g. the %, &, and < aren't exactly HTML safe). I've looked over the "add" element that belongs in the web.config, but I don't see any extra configuration properties to only include certain characters in the ResetPassword() method and to limit the password length. Can I configure the ResetPassword() method to limit the password length and limit the character set it is choosing from? Right now I have a workaround: I call ResetPassword() to make sure the supplied answer is correct, and then I use a RandomPassword generator I downloaded off the internet to generate a password that I like (without ambiguous characters, HTML safe, and only 8 characters long) and then I call ChangePassword() to change the user's password after I've already reset it. My workaround seems kludgy and I thought it would be better to configure ResetPassword() to do what I want. Thank you~! ColoradoTechie

  Hi, In my program, I'm grep-ing via NSTask. For some reason, sometimes I would get no results (even though the code was apparently the same as the command run from the CLI which worked just fine), so I checked through my code and found, in Apple's documentation, that when adding arguments to an NSTask object, "the NSTask object converts both path and the strings in arguments to appropriate C-style strings (using fileSystemRepresentation) before passing them to the task via argv[]" (snip). The problem is that I might grep terms like "Río Gallegos". Sadly (as I checked with fileSystemRepresentation), that undergoes the conversion and turns out to be "RiÃÅo Gallegos". First we had a model called marks which has the following fields id, student, subject, mark the student is a string column which has the active directory login value, later on for reporting functionality we introduce another table called user which has the following fields id, ad_name, full_name Now on the Mark model, we have added the belongs to class belongs_to :student_details, :class_name = "User", :foreign_key = "student", :primary_key = "ad_name" and when loading using the ActiveRecord's find method we are passing in the include conditon for eager loading Marks.find(:all, :include = :reserved_user) but when the find is executed, for each and every mark a student select query executed. Is this a known bug in ROR? or am i missing something?

• Is it a good idea to create an STL iterator which is noncopyable?

  Most of the time, STL iterators are CopyConstructable, because several STL algorithms require this to improve performance, such as std::sort. However, I've been working on a pet project to wrap the FindXFile API (previously asked about), but the problem is it's impossible to implement a copyable iterator around this API. A find handle cannot be duplicated by any means -- DuplicateHandle specifically forbids passing handles to it. And if you just maintain a reference count to the find handle, then a single increment by any copy results in an increment of all copies -- clearly that is not what a copy constructed iterator is supposed to do. Since I can't satisfy the traditional copy constructible requirement for iterators here, is it even worth trying to create an "STL style" iterator? On one hand, creating some other enumeration method is going to not fall into normal STL conventions, but on the other, following STL conventions are going to confuse users of this iterator if they try to CopyConstruct it later. Which is the lesser of two evils?

I am using a script that allows users to submit comments through jquery ajax, however when they are submitted, the submitted comments submit at the bottom of the other comments which are sorted in descending order (newest on top) when the page first loads (due to mysql query). • Rolling Back a Transaction with MySQL Connector in VB.net

  Hey all- I have one multi-row INSERT statement (300 or so sets of values) that I would like to commit to the MySQL database in an all-or-nothing fashion. insert into table VALUES (1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), (7, 8, 9); In some cases, a set of values in the command will not meet the criteria of the table (duplicate key, for example). When that happens I do not want any of the previous sets added to the database. I've implemented this with the following code, however, my rollback command doesn't appear to be making a difference. • Loading remote assembly from the webservice with reflection

  I am using Assembly.LoadFrom within a web service to load assemblies from a web site. but the problem is it is in the virutal directory and the server.mappath parses the url like \share\mydll.dll and loadform method failed. Is there anyway to reference dll from the remote location? I've tried passing the url (http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll) and again it got "Could not load file or assembly 'http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll' or one of its dependencies. HTTP download of assemblies has been disabled for this appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131048)"

  Hi, I worked on code .It is working successfully. But Problem i am facing is: New Columns are not visible in List ( I tried with With Setting Required = "TRUE" ). I tried with compairing Field Value of Both Visible and No-Visible Columns. Difference i found is : Visible Columns (Created Manually) doesn't contain Version value. wereas columns i am creating have it. So i tried with passing null value to "ndVersion.Value". But it is still not working and automaticaly putting some value to version. Can you help me out in this? I tried Solution given Here . But it din't Worked again. :(

• Error getting twitter request token using OAuth and PEAR Services_Twitter

  Hello, I am moving from the basic authentication method using username and password to the OAuth based authentication. I was using an old version of the pear package Services_Twitter, that did not support OAuth. The latest version of this package supports OAuth authentications, it has a few dependencies (HTTP_Request2, HTTP_OAuth). It was very simple to install them and upgrade the package. I did all this my local machine and had no trouble getting the authentication up and running. I committed this code to the test site, but every time the code request a "request token" I get the following error message "Unable to connect to ssl://api.twitter.com:443. Error #0" I have spend 6 hours making sure that all the pear packages where up to date, checking the customer token and token secret, making sure port 443 is not closed... in addition to various other test. I have exhausted my resources and I come to you in hope to find some answers. Thank you PD: One of the things I do not understand is why does the message says that the url is ssl://api.twitter.com:443 rather than https://api.twitter.com/request_token? the former one is the one I am using to get the request token.

Currently the method I'm showing at the top throws an exception because no overload is public.   What is the data inputted into DSA when PGP signs a message? From RFC4880, i found A Signature packet describes a binding between some public key and some data. • Double pointer as Objective-C block parameter

  Is it possible (and if so, safe) to create/use a block which takes a double pointer as an argument? For instance: - (void)methodWithBlock:(void (^)(NSError **error))block; Additional context, research, and questions: I'm using ARC. When I declare the method above and attempt to call it, XCode autocompletes my method invocation as follows: [self methodWithBlock:^(NSError *__autoreleasing *error) {}]; What does __autoreleasing mean here and why is it being added? I presume it has something to do with ARC. If this is possible and safe, can the pointer still be dereferenced in the block as it would be anywhere else? In general, what are the important differences between doing what I'm describing, and simply passing a double pointer as a method parameter (e.g. - (void)methodWithDoublePointer:(NSError **)error;)? What special considerations, if any, should be taken into account (again assuming this is possible at all)?
