  • How to detect changes to Address Book after ABPersonViewController presentation

    - by nkhorman
I have two view controllers that allow changes to the Address Book. The first one lets you add or create an entry based on an ABRedordRef or edit an existing ABRecordRef, by presentation of either ABUnknownPersonViewController or ABPersonViewController. The second one is a standard ABPeoplePickerNavigationController that allows you to view/edit any of the contents of the Address Book. Both views are accessible easily accessible to the use via the main application UITabBarController. How can I determine that changes were made by either view controller, so that I can force data dependency changes to a third separate view controller. I thought that I saw a notification center message that I could subscribe to, but I can't seem to find it again... I don't care if the notification center is the method that should be used, or a delegate protocol or... whatever, I don't care, I just need to know how to detect the change or the need to re-sync with the Address Book. Can someone Please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

  • GameKit: GKSession manual

    - by mongeta
Hello, I want to connect two devices using the GKSession, starting one as a server and the other one as a client. Using this configuration I can't use the GKPeerPickerController. I'm having problems for connecting the two devices: Using only bluetooth: impossible using WiFi: at least there are some data exchange between the devices but no successfully conection. In the interface file I have the GKSessionDelegate GKSession *session; In the implementation, I start the server using this code: session = [[GKSession alloc] initWithSessionID:@"iFood" displayName:nil sessionMode:GKSessionModeClient]; session.delegate = self; session.available = YES; The client starts using this code: session = [[GKSession alloc] initWithSessionID:@"iFood" displayName:nil sessionMode:GKSessionModeServer]; session.delegate = self; session.available = YES; How I can force the use of Bluetooth instead of the WiFi ? Also I have implemented those calls: -(void)session:(GKSession *)session didReceiveConnectionRequestFromPeer:(NSString *)peerID { NSLog(@"Someone is trying to connect"); } - (BOOL)acceptConnectionFromPeer:(NSString *)peerID error:(NSError **)error { NSLog(@"acceptConnectionFromPeer"); } When I start, I get this into the debugger: Listening on port 50775 2010-02-19 14:55:02.547 iFood[3009:5103] handleEvents started (2) And when the other device starts to find, I get this: ~ DNSServiceBrowse callback: Ref=187f70, Flags=2, IFIndex=2 (name=[en0]), ErrorType=0 name=00eGs1R1A..Only by Audi regtype=_2c3mugr67ej6j7._udp. domain=local. ~ DNSServiceQueryRecord callback: Ref=17bd40, Flags=2, IFIndex=2 (name=[en0]), ErrorType=0 fullname=00eGs1R1A\.\.Only\032by\032Audi._2c3mugr67ej6j7._udp.local. rrtype=16 rrclass=1 rdlen=18 ttl=4500 ** peer 1527211048: oldbusy=0, newbusy=0 ~ DNSServiceBrowse callback: Ref=187f70, Flags=2, IFIndex=-3 (name=[]), ErrorType=0 name=00eGs1R1A..Only by Audi regtype=_2c3mugr67ej6j7._udp. domain=local. • NSDate dateFromString, how to parse 'around' UTC, GMT and User locale?

    - by RickiG
Hi I parse some values from an xml file. There is a @"25-12-2010'T'23:40:00"string with the time and date and there is a string with the GMT offset like this @"+0200". So the above time is the 25. of December 23:40:00 in timeZone +0200 GMT. (or 21:40 UTC) I have lots of these dates with different GMT offsets. I have to display these dates as they are, i.e. They must not be changed to fit the locale of the user. So if time 1: is 22:45 +0500 then that is what I must show the user, even if the user is in a different timezone. I have all sorts of trouble with displaying, calculating and parsing these strings. If I use a dateFormatter and dateFromString the user specific GMT info will be included in the resulting NSDate meaning the above will be saved as 23:40:00 +0100 GMT because that is my phones setting and maybe 23:40:00 -0400 on a user from new New York's phone. When I subsequently do subtraction, addition and comparisons between these dates I have to keep the GMT offset around and everything gets worse if the phone switches locale settings, from when the date was parsed to when the date is displayed... Is there a way for me to extract this date from the string as UTC, then save it as an interval instead of an actual (timezone dependent) date. I know that is how dates are always saved internally. But I can't figure out how to do it with the separate GMT string and taking into account the users locale. Cheers

  • OpenGL view in an iPad splitview

    - by dc
I'm attempting to add an OpenGL view (such as the one given in Apple's sample code) as the detail view of an iPad's splitview but am running into issues. I've taken the sample code from the base OpenGL project and attempted to add it as a subview of my DetailViewController - ie EAGLView *glview = [[EAGLView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,100,100)] but when I add it to the main view and call startAnimating on it, nothing at all happens. Any solutions to this? I have never worked with OpenGL before so perhaps I'm doing this all wrong.

  • Returning objects with autorelease but I still leak memory

    - by gok
I am leaking memory on this: my custom class: + (id)vectorWithX:(float)dimx Y:(float)dimy{ return [[[Vector alloc] initVectorWithX:dimx Y:dimy] autorelease]; } - (Vector*)add:(Vector*)q { return [[[Vector vectorWithX:x+q.x Y:y+q.y] retain] autorelease]; } in app delegate I initiate it: Vector *v1 = [[Vector alloc] initVector]; Vector *v2 = [[Vector alloc] initVector]; Vector *vtotal = [[v1 add:v2] retain]; [v1 release]; [v2 release]; [vtotal release]; How this leaks? I release or autorelease them properly. The app crashes immediately if I don't retain these, because of an early release I guess. It also crashes if I add another release.

  • underline text in UIlabel

    - by semix
How to underline a text that could be multiple lines of string? I find some people suggest UIWebView, but it is obviously too heave a class for just text rendering. My thoughts was to figure out the start point and length of each string in each line. And draw a line under it accordingly. I meet problems at how to figure out the length and start point forthe string. Can anybody help me on this? I try to use UILable::textRectForBounds, this should be the drawing bounding rect for the text right? Then I have to work on the aligment ? How can I get the start point of each line when it is center-justified and right justfied? I am new here, so thank in advance.

  • Question about Objective C calling convention and argument passing on ARM

    - by overboming
I want to know how objective C runtime handle arguments when I call a objective C method like [NSString stringWithFomat:@"%@, %@", @"Hello", @"World"] There are three arguments for this objective C call, how does it work compared to typical way on a ARM system. I have known register r0, r1, r2, r3 will hold first 4 arguments, how about there are additional arguments? How does it put them on a stack and pop them later?

  • UITableView: Juxtaposing row, header, and footer insertions/deletions

    - by jdandrea
Consider a very simple UITableView with one of two states. First state: One (overall) table footer One section containing two rows, a section header, and a section footer Second state: No table footer One section containing four rows and no section header/footer In both cases, each row is essentially one of four possible UITableViewCell objects, each containing its own UITextField. We don't even bother with reuse or caching, since we're only dealing with four known cells in this case. They've been created in an accompanying XIB, so we already have them all wired up and ready to go. Now consider we want to toggle between the two states. Sounds easy enough. Let's suppose our view controller's right bar button item provides the toggling support. We'll also track the current state with an ivar and enumeration. To be explicit for a sec, here's how one might go from state 1 to 2. (Presume we handle the bar button item's title as well.) In short, we want to clear out our table's footer view, then insert the third and fourth rows. We batch this inside an update block like so: // Brute forced references to the third and fourth rows in section 0 NSUInteger row02[] = {0, 2}; NSUInteger row03[] = {0, 3}; [self.tableView beginUpdates]; state = tableStateTwo; // 'internal' iVar, not a property self.tableView.tableFooterView = nil; [self.tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSIndexPath indexPathWithIndexes:row02 length:2], [NSIndexPath indexPathWithIndexes:row03 length:2], nil] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; [self.tableView endUpdates]; For the reverse, we want to reassign the table footer view (which, like the cells, is in the XIB ready and waiting), and remove the last two rows: // Use row02 and row03 from earlier snippet [self.tableView beginUpdates]; state = tableStateOne; self.tableView.tableFooterView = theTableFooterView; [self.tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSIndexPath indexPathWithIndexes:row02 length:2], [NSIndexPath indexPathWithIndexes:row03 length:2], nil] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; [self.tableView endUpdates]; Now, when the table asks for rows, it's very cut and dry. The first two cells are the same in both cases. Only the last two appear/disappear depending on the state. The state ivar is consulted when the Table View asks for things like number of rows in a section, height for header/footer in a section, or view for header/footer in a section. This last bit is also where I'm running into trouble. Using the above logic, section 0's header/footer does not disappear. Specifically, the footer stays below the inserted rows, but the header now overlays the topmost row. If we switch back to state one, the section footer is removed, but the section header remains. How about using [self.tableView reloadData] then? Sure, why not. We take care not to use it inside the update block, per Apple's advisement, and simply add it after endUpdates. This time, good news! The section 0 header/footer disappears. :) However ... Toggling back to state one results in a most exquisite mess! The section 0 header returns, only to overlay the first row once again (instead of appear above it). The section 0 footer is placed below the last row just fine, but the overall table footer - now reinstated - overlays the section footer. Waaaaaah … now what? Just to be sure, let's toggle back to state two again. Yep, that looks fine. Coming back to state one? Yecccch. I also tried sprinkling in a few other stunts like using reloadSections:withRowAnimation:, but that only serves to make things worse. NSRange range = {0, 1}; NSIndexSet *indexSet = [NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndexesInRange:range]; ... [self.tableView reloadSections:indexSet withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; Case in point: If we invoke reloadSections... just before the end of the update block, changing to state two hides the first two rows from view, even though the space they would otherwise occupy remains. Switching back to state one returns section 0's header/footer to normal, but those first two rows remain invisible. Case two: Moving reloadSections... to just after the update block but before reloadData results in all rows becoming invisible! (I refer to the row as being invisible because, during tracing, tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: is returning bona-fide cell objects for those rows.) Case three: Moving reloadSections... after tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: brings us a bit closer, but the section 0 header/footer never returns when switching back to state one. Hmm. Perhaps it's a faux pas using both reloadSections... and reloadData, based on what I'm seeing at trace-time, which brings us to: Case four: Replacing reloadData with reloadSections... outright. All cells in state two disappear. All cells in state one remain missing as well (though the space is kept). So much for that theory. :) Tracing through the code, the cell and view objects, as well as the section heights, are all where they should be at the opportune times. They just aren't rendering sanely. So, how to crack this case? Clues welcome/appreciated!

  • NSURL URLWithString: raises exception

    - by Stephen Darlington
In short, [NSURL URLWithString:] appears to be raising an exception. According to the documentation "If the string was malformed, returns nil." There is no mention of an exception being raised under any circumstance. In addition to this, I am both encoding the URL and checking for nil before converting the string to a URL. Can anyone offer any advice as to which exception it could be or what other error checking I should be doing before converting the URL? In case you're interested in the details, the calling code looks like this: NSString* tmpText = [newUrl stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; if (tmpText == nil) { // error handling } else { NSURL* tmpURL = [NSURL URLWithString:tmpText]; And this is a section from the crash report download from iTunes Connect: 8 libobjc.A.dylib 0x300c1f84 objc_exception_throw 9 CoreFoundation 0x3029a598 +[NSException raise:format:arguments:] 10 CoreFoundation 0x3029a538 +[NSException raise:format:] 11 Foundation 0x30696dde -[NSURL initWithString:relativeToURL:] 12 Foundation 0x30696cd8 +[NSURL URLWithString:relativeToURL:] 13 Foundation 0x30696cae +[NSURL URLWithString:] 14 Yummy 0x000146ca -[DeliciousPostCell setUrl:] + 46 It seems that the URL was in a "bad" format somehow but that should really be returning a nil not an exception. I have never seen the exception being raised myself so I can't use XCode to trap the code and see what's happening. And the user(s) that experienced the problem never contacted me directly so I can't ask for more details. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Update (14/7/2009): Seems like such a hack, but I added an exception block around the suspect line. I also raised a Radar bug report (#7031551) suggesting that the code should match the documentation.

  • How to pushviewcontroller to a viewcontroller stored in a tabbaritem?

    - by Jann
First of all I know this is a long question. REST ASSURED I have tried to figure it out on my own (see: StackOverflow #2609318). This is driving me BATTY! After trying and failing to implement my own EDIT feature in the standard moreNavigationController, I have decided to re-implement my own MORE feature. I did the following: Add a HOME view controller which I init with: initWithRootViewController Add 3 other default tabs with: ResortsListViewController *resortsListViewController; resortsListViewController = [[ResortsListViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ResortsListView" bundle:nil]; resortsListViewController.title = [categoriesDictionary objectForKey:@"category_name"]; resortsListViewController.tabBarItem.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"whatever.png"]; resortsListViewController.navigationItem.title=@"whatever title"; localNavigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:resortsListViewController]; localNavigationController.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlack; [localControllersArray addObject:localNavigationController]; [localNavigationController release]; [resortsListViewController release]; Those work when i add them to the tabbar. (ie: click on them and it goes to the view controller) Then I add my own MORE view controller to the tabbar: MoreViewController *moreViewController; moreViewController = [[MoreViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MoreView" bundle:nil]; moreViewController.title = @"More"; moreViewController.tabBarItem.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"more.png"]; moreViewController.navigationItem.title=@"More Categories"; localNavigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:moreViewController]; localNavigationController.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlack; [localControllersArray addObject:localNavigationController]; [localNavigationController release]; [moreViewController release]; Then tabBarController.viewControllers = localControllersArray; tabBarController.moreNavigationController.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlack; tabBarController.customizableViewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:nil]; tabBarController.delegate = self; That creates the necessary linkages. Okay, so far all is well. I get a HOME tab, 3 category tabs and a customized MORE tab -- which all work. in the MORE tab view controller I implement a simple table view that displays all the other tabs I have in rows. SINCE I want to be able to switch them in and out of the tabbar I created them JUST like i did the resortslistviewcontroller above (ie: as view controllers in an array). When I pull them out to display the title in the tableview (so the user can go to that "view") i simply do the following: // [myGizmoClass CategoryArray] holds the array of view controller tab bar items that are NOT shown on the main screen. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { ... etc... UIViewController *Uivc = [[myGizmoClass plusCategoryArray] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [Uivc title]; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator; } THIS is where it falls through: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { MyGizmoClass *myGizmoClass= [MyGizmoClass sharedManager]; UIViewController *tbi = [[myGizmoClass plusCategoryArray] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSLog(@"%@\n",[[tbi navigationItem ]title]); [self.navigationController pushViewController:tbi animated:YES]; } This is the error i get ("ATMs" is the title for the clicked tableview cell so i know the Uivc title is pulling the correct title and therefore the correct "objectatindex": 2010-04-09 11:25:48.222 MouseAddict[47485:207] ATMs 2010-04-09 11:25:48.222 MouseAddict[47485:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Pushing a navigation controller is not supported' BIG QUESTION: How do i make the associated VIEW of the UIViewController *tbi show and get pushed into view? I am GUESSING that the UIViewController is the correct class for this tbl .. i am not sure. BUT i just wanna get the view so i can push it onto the stack. Can someone plz help?

I am trying to access the pixels of a CGContext written to with a PDF, but the bitmap buffer doesn't seem to update. See schema for details: For getting all instance of EntityA which depend from EntityB.name I use the predicate like this: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"ANY EntityB.name like 'SomeName'"]; What should be predicate for getting all instance of EntityA which depend from EntityC.name? I tried query like @"ANY EntityB.entitiesC.name like 'SomeName'" but get exception "multiple to-many keys not allowed here". Best regards, Victor
