In .NET WinForms I want to display message in a status bar and suspend the program execution until user moves mouse or presses keyboard. How can I do that?
I would like to use WebSockets in my Windows Forms or WPF-application. Is there a .NET-control that is supporting WebSockets implemented yet? Or is there any open source project started about it?
An open source solution for a Java Client supporting WebSockets could also help me.
What is the best way to support multiple languages for the interface in an ASP.NET MVC application. I've seen people use resource files for other applications. Is this still the best way?
I have a Linq to SQL data model that uses single table inheritance.
I created a new ASP.net Dynamic Data web site with all table scaffolding enabled, but I can't see any of the derived classes in my data model being scaffolded.
Is this by design?
Hi,
Is it possible to create a new thread in asp.net to do some processing, and then upon completion, set a flag so that when the user requests the next page, I can insert some extra text or code to perform some notification? Or if it is possible to send some text to the browser after the request has completed?
For example jGrowl would be great to have a notification after some processing has been performed.
Thanks
Hi folks!
I'm looking for a .NET image processing component or an open source alternative to automate the following tasks:
Photo capture (webcams and photo cameras)
Photo printing (grid/strip modes)
Applying photo effects
Saving photos
AtalaSoft DotImage is quite expensive, any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks J
I've seen some discussion on why c# does not implement multiple inheritance but very little as to why it isn't supported in vb. I understand that both c# and vb are compiled down to intermediary language and so they both need to share similar restrictions.
The lack of multiple inheritance in VB seems to have been given as one reason for the lack of the feature in dot net. Does anyone know why VB doesn't support multiple inheritance? I'm hoping for a bit of history lesson and discussion on why this was never considered for VB.
I'm a total beginner when it comes to computer languages, and was asked for a code to write .NET with assembler x86, and i'm stuck here at the moment.
Any basic code lines would work, still couldn't find any on the web.
I've added an App_Code directory to my ASP.NET MVC project so that I get dynamic compilation for plugins.
Only slight annoyance is that when developing new plugins, I don't get intellisense on classes inside the App_Code directory.
Currently I am creating them in another directory inside my project and then copying them into App_Code.
is there any way around this?
I have a Oracle procedure to which I have to pass a datetime value (2/5/2010 11:46 AM)
How do I pass this value from VB.net. When I pass the date as shown below it is not returning any records though there are records.
With Cmd
.Connection = FactsConn
.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
.CommandText = "sp_atas_image_qry"
.Parameters.Add(New OracleParameter("vinspectiondatetime", OracleClient.OracleType.DateTime)).Value = "2/5/2010 11:46 AM"
.Parameters.Add(New OracleParameter("io_cursor", OracleClient.OracleType.Cursor)).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
End With
Have anyone seen or tried Wordpress.NET?
I read an article about it before, but it is now nowhere to be found.
Any similar open source where I could get one?
I have a GridView in my ASP.NET application that takes data to be rendered from EntityDataSource. GridView allows user to select rows. I want to get the entity that corresponds to the row user selected. I can get from GridView the ID(primary key) of the entity that corresponds to the row selected. How can I get the Entity that has that ID(primary key) ?

I have a web forms web application (asp.net 2.0). When the user submits the form I have the submit link actually going away so they can't submit it again. However, they could press F5 and that is causing another insert into the database, which I don't want to have happen.
Is there a setting of some sort that I can set if/when they do press F5 to tell the page - don't submit again?
I'm developing a huge console application for Unix using C# via Mono.
If I develop that app using M Visual Studio and .NET 3.5 and I carefully neglect to use win32 specific API calls, should I expect that application to automatically work in my Unix box? Or should I just get MonoDevelop and go the Mono way?
I'm looking for a server app to be routinely generating certificates for client applications using self-signed root. Is there any streamlined process in .NET to programmatically generate those certificates?
I can, of course, keep spawning makecert or openssl, but I was looking for more programmatic, in-memory method, when you just get X509Certificate on output.
If someone got a code snippet, can you please share?
In terms of performance, IIS process management and reliability, is there a best practice in how to expose functionality over ASP.NET webservices?
Like:
Each consulting service in a specific asmx (like consultA.asmx)
All consulting services in one asmx (like consults.asmx)
NOTE: In this case, I cannot use WCF

I'm currently supporting a Python web app with increasingly complicated user/role/permission management requirements. Currently, we are rolling our own user, groups, permissions, etc. code and supporting database.
I'd like to find something like ASP.NET membership that can help manage user authentication and authorization, rather than risk security issues in continuing to create an increasingly complicated custom solution. Are there any similar projects out there worth taking a look at?
I wondered how certain .NET hosting providers can safely grant full trust to their customers?
Doesn't this open up everybody who is hosting with that company to potential safety issues? Or is there a way to safely restrict each customer, despite giving full trust, to "their" space without giving them the abiliy to bring down the system or spy on other customers?
for very low-volume bandwidth site in production with iis7/win08 - should i have concerns (re: overall system stability) about installing CruiseControl.NET as a build server implementation?
Hi,
I would like to know how I would go about altering the HTML that is displayed by my VB.net application using GeckoFX. What I would like to do restrict certain words/names/attributes from showing in the browser.
Any info/links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
