  • Current state of client-side XSLT

    - by Casey
Last I heard, Blizzard was one of the few companies to put client-side XSLT into practice (2008). Is this still the case in 2011, or are more people now exploring this technique in production?  It seems that modern browsers (IE9, FF4, Chrome) and client processing power are primed to exploit this standard for tangible savings in server CPU power and bandwidth on large scale properties. Am I missing something? The negative aspects I'm aware of include * additional rendering time * additional assets required on uncached page load * additional layer of complexity * noticably less developer experience than server-side template techniques The benefits I perceive include * distributed template composition (offloaded on the client) * caching of common template fragments offloaded on the client * logical separation of document structure and data * well-documented web standard supported by all modern browsers Finally, although I know it's impossible to predict the future, I am curious to know opinions on whether or not client-side XSLT's day will come. With interest in HTML5 driving users to upgrade their browsers and developers to explore new techniques, I would say yes. How about you? Thanks in advance, Casey

  • Opening a text file in browser - error on server

    - by Lehan Coetzee
I'm trying to open a text file in my browser, when doing it from my local machine it works perfectly but when I upload my files to my web server the link to the text file no longer works and I get a broken link error from the browser. Here is my code for opening the txt file: <div style="width: 100%; background-color: #CCC;text-align: center;"> <a href="code.txt" onclick="window.open(this.href,this.target,'height=300, width=500');return false;">Code</a> </div>

  • How can I change the CSS visibility style for elements that are not on the screen?

    - by RenderIn
I have a lot of data being placed into a <DIV> with the overflow: auto style. Firefox handles this gracefully but IE becomes very sluggish both when scrolling the div and when executing any Javascript on the page. At first I thought IE just couldn't handle that much data in its DOM, but then I did a simple test where I applied the visibility: hidden style to every element past the first 100. They still take up space and cause the scrollbars to appear. IE no longer had a problem with the data when I did this. So, I'd like to have a "smart" div that hides all the nested div elements which are not currently visible on the screen. Is there a simple solution to this or will I need to have an infinite loop which calculates the location of the scrollbar? If not, is there a particular event that I can hook into where I could do this? Is there a jQuery selector or plugin that will allow me to select all elements not currently visible on the screen?

  • Show PDF in HTML in web

    - by Anil
    Hi, I'm using the object tag to render PDF in HTML, but I'm doing it in MVC like this: <object data="/JDLCustomer/GetPDFData?projID=<%=ViewData["ProjectID"]%>&folder=<%=ViewData["Folder"] %>" type="application/pdf" width="960" height="900"> </object> and Controller/Action is public void GetPDFData(string projID, Project_Thin.Folders folder) { Highmark.BLL.Models.Project proj = GetProject(projID); List<File> ff = proj.GetFiles(folder, false); if (ff != null && ff.Count > 0 && ff.Where(p => p.FileExtension == "pdf").Count() > 0) { ff = ff.Where(p => p.FileExtension == "pdf").ToList(); Response.ClearHeaders(); Highmark.BLL.PDF.JDLCustomerPDF pdfObj = new JDLCustomerPDF(ff, proj.SimpleDbID); byte[] bArr = pdfObj.GetPDF(Response.OutputStream); pdfObj = null; Response.ContentType = "application/" + System.IO.Path.GetExtension("TakeOffPlans").Replace(".", ""); Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=\"TakeOffPlans\""); Response.BinaryWrite(bArr); Response.Flush(); } } The problem is, as I'm downloading data first from server and then return the byte data, it is taking some time in downloading, so I want to show some kind of progress to show processing. Please help me on this.

  • What is the best way to limit the amount of text that can be entered into a 'textarea'?

    - by Jesse Taber
What is the best way to limit the amount of text that a user can enter into a 'textarea' field on a web page? The application in question is ASP .NET, but a platform agnostic answer is preferred. I understand that some amount of javascript is likely needed to get this done as I do not wish to actually perform the 'post' with that amount of data if possible as ASP .NET does have an upper limit to the size of the request that it will service (though I don't know what that is exactly). So maybe the real question is, what's the best way to do this in javascript that will meet the following criteria: -Must work equally well for both users simply typing data and copy/paste'ing data in from another source. -Must be as '508 compliance' friendly as possible.

  • Disabling normal link behaviour on click with an if statement in Jquery?

    - by Qwibble
I've been banging my head with this all day, trying anything and everything I can think of to no gain. I'm no Jquery guru, so am hoping someone here can help me out. What I'm trying to do in pseudo code (concept) seems practical and easy to implement, but obviously not so =D What I have is a navigation sidebar, with sub menu's within some li's, and a link at the head of each li. When a top level link is clicked, I want the jquery to check if the link has a sibling ul. If it does, the link doesn't act like a link, but slides down the sibling sub nav. If there isn't one, the link should act normally. Here's where I'm at currently, what am I doing wrong? $('ul.navigation li a').not('ul.navigation li ul li a').click(function (){ if($(this).parent().contains('ul')){ $('ul.navigation li ul').slideUp(); $(this).siblings('ul').slideDown(); return false; } else{ alert('Link Clicked') // Maybe do some more stuff in here... } }); Any ideas?

  • CSS: achieving TWO-WAY infinite scroll with mouse drag

    - by Miguel Ping
Hi, I'm trying to create an infinite scroll component. I'm using this site as a tutorial, but it seems that I can only get the infinite scroll on one way, because when I add elements to the leftmost side, the scrollLeft property auto-adjusts thus the page gets a quirky scroll, jumping instead of making a smooth movement. Is there any way of achieving infinite scroll both-ways? I don't plan to use scrolling buttons, just mouse drag for moving the scroll view.

  • File size and mime-type before upload

    - by Marcos Placona
Hi, I've scavenged on every single topic on this forum to try and find an answer before I posted this. Most people say you should simply use SWFUpload, some others mention Activex, and it keeps going. I know this is do-able, as Google does it with gMail when you try to upload a file that's bigger than 25mb, or executable. My question is, how can I determine the file size and mime-type before the file actually hits my server. I primarily thought it was an impossible task, but Google proves me wrong. Could anyone give me a definitive answer on how to accomplish such task? Thanks

  • assigning width to li

    - by badnaam
    I am using jquery ui tabs, which requires the tabs to be <li> elements, by default at least. I only need 2 tabs, but I am not able to size them so that they are both equal and take up 100% of available width of the ul. here is my code. <div id="intro_tabs" class="tabs"> <ul id="intro_nav"> <li> <h3><a href ="#tabs-1" class="null_link"><%= t('home.index.what_is_it') %></a></h3> </li> <li> <h3><a href ="#tabs-2" class="null_link"><%= t('home.index.how_works') %></a></h3> </li> </ul> <div id="tabs-1"> <%= simple_format t 'home.index.what_intro_details' %> </div> <div id="tabs-2"> <div id="intro_accordion"> <h3><a href="#">Users</a></h3> <div> <%= t 'home.index.how_intro_details_user' %> </div> <h3><a href="#">Merchants</a></h3> <div> <%= t 'home.index.how_intro_details_merchant' %> </div> </div> </div> </div> I have tried using css property width:50%, on both li's but it doesn't work. Thanks

  • Javascript InnerHTML Erases Data In Form Elements

It should leave the data in form elements

  • Absolute positioned div jumps outside containing div in IE7

    - by user367232
Having trouble with a couple of display issues in IE7. Firstly, my large text headers display too far up in Internet Explorer (all pages) Secondly, my descriptions on my Portfolio pages end up outside their containing divs. Works great on FF/Chrome/Opera/Safari though! You'll see what I mean: http://bit.ly/a3hUD4 (I've used bitly so my dumb questions don't show up when someone googles my website). I've googled extensively. Not sure if problem number 2 is a overflow issue, or a absolute positioning bug in IE. Here's the CSS for the centre div with the jumbo-text titles .column1 { padding: 103px 10px 10px 10px; float: left; width: 500px; margin: 0; } And for the description div on the portfolio page .porttxtbox { text-align: right; background-image: url(images/porttxtBG.png); bottom: 0; position: absolute; width: 100%; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } And it's container div .portimgbox { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; height: 250px; width: 480px; position: relative; border: 5px solid #EAEAEA; Thanks in advance!

  • How can I edit a css rule in jQuery?

    - by chacham15
The purpose is that rows are dynamically added to a table and it is not as nice (and slower) to apply the rule manually later. The specific example is that I am creating a tree table to represent a folder directory. Each folder is a div. In each div, there is a ul with an li for each columns' information. These li have a class name equivalent to the column name. This provides column width. I want to make the columns resizable however. I could do $('.className').css('width', newWidth) but then this wont apply to newly inserted items. Therefore, I want to modify the css rule. How do I do this?

  • Vertical centering text (jQuery)

    - by Nimbuz
<div style="width: 100px; height:50px; line-height:50px; overflow:hidden;"> <p>A short line</p> </div> <div style="width: 100px; height:50px; line-height:50px; overflow:hidden;"> <p>A really really really long line</p> </div> Wrapped text in the second example gets cut off because of the line-height:50px which should be 25px in this case. How do I use jQuery to find if theres single or multi-line text in an element? Thanks!

  • Read cookies with JavaScript

    - by Etienne
    I know how to write cookies in JavaScript //Create the cookies document.cookie = "Name=" + Name + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; document.cookie = "Surname=" + Surname + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; document.cookie = "Number=" + Number + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; document.cookie = "Email=" + Email + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; document.cookie = "Country=" + Country + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; document.cookie = "Company=" + Company + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; document.cookie = "Title=" + Job + ";expires=Friday, 31-Dec-2011 12:00:00 GMT; path=/"; But how can I read each one of them in JavaScript because I want to populate the text boxes next time the user come to the form? • window.onbeforeunload and window.location.href in IE

    - by Zuber
We are using window.location.href to navigate the user to a page. Also, we have configured the window.onbeforeunload event to alert users in case there are any unsaved changes. window.onbeforeunload = confirmBeforeClose; function confirmBeforeClose() { if (jwd.global.inEditMode) return "Your changes will not be saved :) and you will be punished to death"; } In places where there are unsaved changes, and I try to use window.location.href to navigate the user, I get the alert message. It works fine if I click OK on the popup. However, if I click CANCEL, the JS throws an unspecified error at window.location.href. Any help is appreciated.

  • How can I pass checkbox onclick event to parent onclick ?

    - by Kim
I a with an onclick event and , and inside it. When I click on the checkbox then the div-onclick event doesnt fire - I would like it to fire without having to dublicate the onclick onto the checkbox. <div id="id-tag" onclick="do()"> <span>text</span> <img src="pic.jpg" /> <input type="checkbox" name="mycheck" /> </div> I know the div-idtag but ideally would like to avoid specifying it inside the checkbox. Using another function call on the checkbox onclick to call the parent is NOT what I am looking for, like onclick="run_parent_onclick()" but this is okay (untested) onclick="this.parent.click()"

  • Ampersand in GET, PHP

    - by NightMICU
I have a simple form that generates a new photo gallery, sending the title and a description to MySQL and redirecting the user to a page where they can upload photos. Everything worked fine until the ampersand entered the equation. The information is sent from a jQuery modal dialog to a PHP page which then submits the entry to the database. After Ajax completes successfully, the user is sent to the upload page with a GET URL to tell the page what album it is uploading to -- $.ajax ({ type: "POST", url: "../../includes/forms/add_gallery.php", data: $("#addGallery form").serialize(), success: function() { $("#addGallery").dialog('close'); window.location.href = 'display_album.php?album=' + title; } }); If the title has an ampersand, the Title field on the upload page does not display properly. Is there a way to escape ampersand for GET? Thanks

  • How do I rotate an image in Javascript or CSS

    - by Eric
I am creating a simple game. I want to use jQUERY to rotate the joints making it move. I am using .animate ( http://api.jquery.com/animate/ ) to animate CSS properties but if it is also possible to use Javscript, I can make my own custom code. More TO-THE-POINT How do I rotate images in CSS or Javascript? I prefer CSS but Javascript is fine too. If it is impossible (which I am pretty sure it is but I am not giving up yet) is there any other possible way to do what i am trying to do without making a bunch of seperate images, each rotated a different way. Or can anyone at least give me an example of a site that does something similar. EDIT: I need 1 CSS property (no -something: rotation(500deg);) that works with FireFox, Safari and Chrome because those are the only browsers I really work with.
