  I need help from a prototype.js expert: I'm trying to achieve the following (taken from the addthis forum), and port the solution from jquery to prototype.js (I'm using magento). • Use Google Calendar UI but showing only filtered events

  I have just started using Google Calendar API (using Python client). I'm basically developing a web app for a school with Django. What I'd like to achieve is something like this: To make things simple for now, I have 1 Google account and all events will be created in the calendar under that account (this is the school calendar). The calendar will be made public. When a class is created by a teacher, the class schedule will be automatically added as an event in the Google Calendar. When a student logs in, he can see the school calendar, showing only schedules from the classes that he's registered in. I think I can filter the calendar feeds to show only class schedules that a student is registered in using Google Data API. The problem is, how can I display Google Calendar on my web app using Google Calendar UI to show only those filtered events? I can use Google Calendar UI with the provided embeddable HTML snippet, but I can't control/filter events with that (i.e. all events in the school calendar will be displayed). Or perhaps I'm missing something? I read the Data API guide and the Publishing tool doc but I can't seem to find this information. THanks in advance!

• How to create a semi transparent window in WPF that allows mouse events to pass through

  I am trying to create an effect similar to the Lights out /lights dim feature in Adobe Lightroom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87hNd3vaENE) except in WPF. What I tried was to create another window over-top of my existing window, make it transparent and put a semi transparent Path geometry on it. But I want mouse events to be able to pass through this semi transparent window (on to windows below). This is a simplified version of what I have: <Window x:Class="LightsOut.MaskWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" AllowsTransparency="True" WindowStyle="None" ShowInTaskbar="False" Topmost="True" Background="Transparent"> <Grid> <Button HorizontalAlignment="Left" Height="20" Width="60">click</Button> <Path IsHitTestVisible="False" Stroke="Black" Fill="Black" Opacity="0.3"> <Path.Data> <RectangleGeometry Rect="0,0,1000,1000 "/> </Path.Data> </Path> </Grid> The window is fully transparent, so on places where the Path doesn't cover, mouse events pass right through. So far so good. The IsHitTestvisible is set to false on the path object. So mouse events will pass through it to other controls on the same form (ie you can click on the Button, because it is on the same form). But mouse events wont pass through the Path object onto windows that are below it. Any ideas? Or better ways to solve this problem? Thanks.

• Multiple jQuery.noConflict() instances...

  I am working with several jQuery scripts that include a MenuFader (http://css-tricks.com/examples/MenuFader/), twitter feed, and timestamp. Additionally I have a couple Mootools scripts that include the Barackslideshow (http://devthought.com/wp-content/moogets/BarackSlideshow/demo.html). And finally I have a scrolling ticker with tooltips taken from the twitter homepage. I originally had a conflict with the Jquery MenuFader and Mootools BarackSlideshow, but easily fixed this issue with the jQuery.noconflict(); and replaced all corresponding $ with jQuery. Unfortunately, after I added the scrolling ticker from Twitter, the Mootools BarackSlideshow and the Jquery MenuFader no longer work. I tried to implement jQuery.noconflict(); then $.noconflict(); then var j = jQuery.noconflict(); and replacing the $ as I did previously, but I cannot get the scripts to play nicely. Any help is greatly appreciated...I have been working on this all day. I am pretty new with javascript, but have managed to get through most problems with a little persistence. • Getting the eventargs of registered events

  i'm new with maps and openlayers, but i'm playing around with openlayers because i'll need mapfunctionality in my next project. The map is an image (because it's a drawn map of a medieval town). I found how i can register events, and it's working. But the problem is, that the "eventargs" is not working as in the examples i found. In one of the examples they are getting the x and y values after the users panned like this: map.events.register('moveend', map, function (e) { alert(e.xy); }); If i try this in visual studio, e doesn't have a 'xy' property. What am i missing? • Back From Microsoft Web Camps Beijing

  I am just back from Microsoft Web Camps, where Web developers in Beijing had a good time for 2 days with 2 fantastic speakers, Scott Hanselman and James Senior. On day 1, Scott and James talked about Web Platform Installer, ASP.NET core runtime, ASP.NET MVC, Entity Framework, Visual Studio 2010, … They were humorous and smart, and everyone was excited! On day 2, developers were organized into teams to build Web applications. At the end of day 2, each team had a chance of presentation. Before ending, I also demonstrated my so-called “WebOS”, a tiny but funny Web website developed with ASP.NET MVC and jQuery, which looks like an operating system, to show the power of ASP.NET MVC and jQuery. Scott, James and me were joking there, and people cannot help laughing and applauding… You can play with it here: http://www.coolwebos.com/, if interested. • JavaScript local alias pattern

  Here’s a little pattern that is fairly common from JavaScript developers but that is not very well known from C# developers or people doing only occasional JavaScript development. In C#, you can use a “using” directive to create aliases of namespaces or bring them to the global scope: namespace Fluent.IO { using System; using System.Collections; using SystemIO = System.IO; In JavaScript, the only scoping construct there is is the function, but it can also be used as a local aliasing device, just like the above using directive: (function($, dv) { $("#foo").doSomething(); var a = new dv("#bar"); })(jQuery, Sys.UI.DataView); This piece of code is making the jQuery object accessible using the $ alias throughout the code that lives inside of the function, without polluting the global scope with another variable. The benefit is even bigger for the dv alias which stands here for Sys.UI.DataView: think of the reduction in file size if you use that one a lot or about how much less you’ll have to type… I’ve taken the habit of putting almost all of my code, even page-specific code, inside one of those closures, not just because it keeps the global scope clean but mostly because of that handy aliasing capability.

My question are: Instead of having many CASES is it possible to create dynamic vb code that parses the ajax request and creates dynamically the call to the desired SP (also implementing the parameters passed by JS)? What is the best approach to handle situations like this, by using the advantages of .Net + protoype or jQuery? How the big sites handle situation like this? Do they do it by creating 1 page for request? Thanks in advance for suggestion, direction and tips.

• HTML5 media loading sometimes suspends or aborts: misconfigured Apache?

  Recently, some code that has been working fine for months started to run unexpectedly. That code is just a media files loading JavaScript function, that uses jQuery. It's pretty long, but in essence it is like this: var $audio=$('<audio>'); $audio.on('canplaythrough',function(e){ $audio[0].play(); }); $audio.attr('src','song.ogg'); Basically, the file only loads sometimes, and sometimes stops loading with a suspend or even an abort event. I have uploaded a little testing HTML to http://www.joanbotella.com/tests/loading , where you can see what's happening. You can download the test files from http://www.joanbotella.com/tests/loading/loadingTest.zip for local testing. I have just checked that opening the test index.html file directly into Firefox, and not through my localhost Apache server, makes the audio files perfectly playable. So, I assume, my hosting and I have the Apache server misconfigured for serving media files. My software versions are: Apache 2.2.22-1ubuntu1.7 , Mozilla Firefox 31.0 , Chromium 36.0.1985.125 and jQuery 1.11.0. Can you help me? Thanks in advance!

• Internet Explorer menu z-order problem [migrated]

  I have what appears to be a z-order problem with Internet Explorer 9. It might be in other IE versions also, but not tested. I have to assume so. This page: http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/partsfinder/trex500esp/frames If you hover over the "All pages for this model" menu item on the parts finder menu bar (below the currency selector) - it should drop down a list of all the parts finder pages for the selected model helicopter. If you view the same page in IE or Chrome etc, you will see how it should appear. In IE9, the menu gets cut off at the top of the main exploded view image - suggesting the z-order is wrong. I have tried amending this with a jquery snippet but it didn't fix IE9. I know the code was inserted by jquery as shown by firebug in firefox. $j('div.std img[src*="/partsfinder/img"]').attr("style","position:relative;z-index:-100;"); I really do not know why this is not working.

• A Case for Oracle Fusion Middleware by Lucas Jellema

  An in-depth look at the interaction of people, processes, and technologies in the transition to a service-oriented architecture. Author's Note This article presents a profile of a fictitious organization, NOPERU. The story of NOPERU as told in this article is actually a collage of the events at some dozen organizations that I have been involved with over the past few years. None of these organizations sport all the characteristics of NOPERU - but all of them have gone through or are going through a similar transition as described here and all aspects of this article were taken from real life at one or usually many of these organizations. Background NOPERU (National Organization for Permits for Emissions and Resource Usage) is a public organization that continues to transform in terms of its business, organization and technology. Changing business requirements; new interaction channels; and increasing demands for more flexibility, faster throughput and lower costs drive these transformations, while technological evolution and new architecture patterns enable the change. NOPERU chose Oracle Fusion Middleware as the technology platform to implement the new architecture and required applications. This article takes a close look at NOPERU's journey from its origins in the early 1990s as a largely paper-based entity with regional databases and client-server Oracle Forms applications. Its upcoming business objectives are introduced: what is required of the organization and what the higher goals behind these requirements are. The architecture roadmap is described at a high level as well as drilled down to a service oriented design. Based on the architecture roadmap and the business requirements and NOPERU went through a technology selection to determine the technology stack with which the future would be realized in terms of IT. The article discusses that selection and details the projects subsequently planned (and executed to date). The new architecture and technology as well as the introduction of an Agile development method have had substantial consequences for the IT organization, the processes and individual staff members. The approach NOPERU has adopted with regard to the people and the organization is portrayed. Finally, the article discusses many conclusions that NOPERU has drawn that may benefit itself and other organizations. Introducing NOPERU NOPERU is a national organization charged with issuing permits for excessive emissions (i.e., carbon dioxide) and disproportionate usage of such resources as energy or water. Anyone-whether a commercial enterprise, government agency or private person--who emits or consumes more than what is considered "fair usage" requires such a permit. When someone builds an outdoor heated swimming pool, for example, or open-air terrace heating, such a permit needs to be obtained. When a company installs new, energy-intensive equipment, such as water boilers or deep freezers, it too needs to get a NOPERU permit. Government-sponsored projects at every level that involve consumption of large quantities of fresh water or production of high volumes of emissions must turn to NOPERU for a permit. • Passing touch events on to subviews

  I have a view within a UIScrollView that loads an additional subview when the user presses a certain area. When this additional subview is visible, I want all touch events to be handled by this - and not by the scrollview. It seems like the first couple events are being handled by the subview, but then touchesCancelled is called and the scrollview takes over the touch detection. How can I make sure that the subview gets all the events as long as the movement activity is being performed on this view? • Why does this call to jQuery's $.ajax() fire an empty request in Chrome and Firefox?

  Hello, I am trying to call a WCF RESTful service from jQuery. I am using JSON to encode both request and response.   Background To secure websites from cross-site request forgery (CSRF, or XSRF) attack, ASP.NET MVC provides an excellent mechanism: The server prints tokens to cookie and inside the form; When the form is submitted to server, token in cookie and token inside the form are sent by the HTTP request; Server validates the tokens. Specify validation on controller (not on each action) Problem For the first problem, usually a controller contains actions for both HTTP GET and HTTP POST requests, and usually validations are expected for HTTP POST requests. Submit token via AJAX Problem For AJAX scenarios, when request is sent by JavaScript instead of form:$.post(url, { productName: "Tofu", categoryId: 1 // Token is not posted. }, callback); This kind of AJAX POST requests will always be invalid, because server side code cannot see the token in the posted data. Solution The token must be printed to browser then submitted back to server. So first of all, HtmlHelper.AntiForgeryToken() must be called in the page where the AJAX POST will be sent. • Does jQuery ajaxSetup method not work with $.get or $.post?

  Does the jQuery $.ajaxSetup method not respect the data field in the options hash when $.post or $.get is called? For example, I might have this code: $.ajaxSetup({ data: { persist: true } }); Then, to send a POST request, I would call this: $.post("/create/something", { name: "foo" }); I was expecting the actual POST data to look like this: { persist: true, name: "foo" } but the only data sent by $.post is { name: "foo" }. Is there any way to get the expected behavior? I'm using jQuery 1.4.1.

• QGraphicsView and eventFilter

  Hello everyone, This has been bugging me for more than two days now, so i thought i should ask. I am using Qt 4.5.3 (compiled with VC2008) on Win7. I have MyGraphicsView (inherits QGraphicsView) and MyFilter (inherits QObject) classes. When i install the MyFilter object as an event filter to MyGraphicsView, Mouse events are delivered to MyFilter after they are delivered to MyGraphicsView whereas Key events are delivered to MyFilter before they are delivered to MyGraphicsView. In the second case, i install the MyFilter object as an event filter to MyGraphicsView-viewport() (which is a standart QGLWidget), Mouse events are delivered to MyFilter before they are delivered to MyGraphicsView, whereas Key events are delivered to only MyGraphicsView. The events are supposed to be delivered to event filters before they are delivered to the actual object, so why is this happening? What should i do to ensure this order? Thanks in advance. The saveCmd property is bound through knockout, but gives an error since it cannot be found. How can the ko.applyBindings get the right reference to the viewmodel? In other words, with what do we need to replace the 'this' keyword int he applyBindings. I would imagine you can 'ask' requirejs to give us the ealiers instantiated object with identifier 'vm.inkoopfactuurAanleveren' but I cannot figure out how.

• DoDragDrop disables MouseMove Events

  After having started a Drag & Drop operation by DragDrop.DoDragDrop(...) no more MouseMove Events are fired. I even tried AddHandler(Window.MouseMoveEvent, new MouseEventHandler(myControl_MouseMove), true); where the last parameter means I even opt in for handled events. No chance, seems like the MouseMove Event is never fired at all! Any way to still get MouseMove Events while using Drag & Drop? I'd like to Drag & Drop a control, while dragging this control it shall follow the mouse pointer. Any idea how to do this in this case?

• C# ASPNET MVC - How do you use ModelState.IsValid in a jquery/ajax postback?

  From what I've seen ModelState.IsValid is only calculated by the MVC frame work on a full postback, is that true? I have a jquery postback like so: var url = "/path/to/controller/myaction"; var id = $("#Id").val(); var somedata = $("#somedata").val(); // repeated for every textbox $.post(url, { id: id, somedata: somedata }, function (data) { // etc }); And the controller action looks like: public JsonResult MyAction(MyModel modelInstance) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { // ... ModelState.IsValid is always true, even when there is invalid data } } But this does not seem to trigger ModelState.IsValid. For example if somedata is 5 characters long, but the DataAnnotation says [StringLength(3)] - in this case ModelStae.IsValid is still true, because it hasn't been triggered. Is there something special I need to do when making a jquery/ajax post instead of a full post? Thanks!

• Composite events in locally scoped regions with Prism (CAL)

  I'm starting to train Prism (CAL) with a small application and faced some problems. I'm creating multiple instances of my MainView, which itself contains some regions, and display them in the Shell. I'm using locally scoped regions to easily handle view injections within my MainView. Currently I'm searching for a way of communication between the views (viewModels) inside the MainView. Composite events could do it, but when I publish those events, they are handled in all instances of my MainView, which I really don't want. Is there a way of raising "locally scoped" composite events like with locally scoped regions? Or may be there's a better way of communicating between views in my case?

  Have you ever taken a look under the hood at the JQuery 1.4 source code and noticed how it's encapsulated in the following way: (function( window, undefined ) { //All the JQuery code here ... })(window); I've read an article on JavaScript Namespacing and another one called "An Important Pair of Parans," so I know some about what's going on here. But I've never seen this particular syntax before. What is that undefined doing there? And why does window need to be passed and then appear at the end again?
