• does the accelerometer work for the iphone/ipad simulator?

  From what I can tell, my app should be firing accelerometer events while Im using the iPad simulator in XCode, but its not. I have googled around and it somewhat seems that the accelerometer is not implemented in the simulator, is this correct? If so, why on earth would they have a "Hardware-Shake Gesture" menu option?   One thing I love about ruby is that mostly it is a very readable language (which is great for self-documenting code) However, inspired by this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/609612/ruby-code-explained and the description of how ||= works in ruby, I was thinking about the ruby idioms I don't use, as frankly, I don't fully grok them. So my question is, similar to the example from the referenced question, what common, but not obvious, ruby idioms do I need to be aware of to be a truly proficient ruby programmer? By the way, from the referenced question a ||= b is equivalent to if a == nil || a == false a = b end (Thanks to Ian Terrell for the correction) Edit: It turns out this point is not totally uncontroversial. • IE9 syntax on jquery crossbrowser with jsonp and FF, Chrome

  I have the following code and i have a problem in ensuring part of it is used when a IE browser is used, and remove it when any other browser is used: $.ajax({ url: 'http://mapit.mysociety.org/areas/'+ulo, type: 'GET', cache: false, crossDomain: true, dataType: 'jsonp', success: function(response) { This works fine in IE9 because I have put the dataType as jsonp. But this will not work on Chrome or FF. So I need to remove the dataType. I tried this: <!--[IF IE]> dataType: 'jsonp', <![endif]--> But it did not work. It's worth noting, it does not need the dataType set when in FF or Chrome as it's json. Whats the correct syntax to have this work ? Thanks Andrew

• Undefined Results in jQuery Autocomplete

  So I've got the latest versions of jQuery and UI running. I can watch the results returned via Firebug and the JSON is correct there as well. Also, while the list only says "undefined" it does say that the same number of times as records returned in JSON. • How to Grant IIS 7.5 access to a certificate in certificate store?

  In Windows 2003 it was simple to do and one could use the winhttpcertcfg.exe (download) to give "NETWORK SERVICE" account access to a certificate. I'm now using Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5 and I am unable to find where and how to set permissions access permissions to a certificate in the certificate store. This Post showed how to do it in Vista and that winhttpcertcfg features were added into the certificates mmc however it doesn't seem to work with imported certificates or doesn't work anymore on Server 2008 R2. So does anyone have any idea on how give IIS 7.5 the correct permissions to read a certificate from the certificate store? And also what account from IIS 7.5 that needs the permission.

• How do you deal with UAC when creating a process as a different user?

  I am having an issue with UAC and executing a non interactive process as a different user (APIs such as CreateProcessAsUser or CreateProcessWithLogonW). My program is intended to do the following: 1) Create a new windows user account (check, works correctly) 2) Create a non interactive child process as new user account (fails when UAC is enabled) My application includes a administrator manifest, and elevates correct when UAC is enabled in order to complete step 1. But step 2 is failing to execute correctly. I suspect this is because the child process which executes as another user is not inheriting the elevated rights of my main process (which executes as the interactive user). I would like to know how to resolve this issue. When UAC is off my program works correctly. How can I deal with UAC or required elevated rights in this situation? If it helps any, the child process needs to run as another user in order to setup file encryption for the new user account.

But I have removed all cells in atableview before call 'reloadData'. • Ruby on Rails redirect_to not functioning in IF statement?

  Hi, I am redirecting a POST request to ensure the URL is correct along with other things. The redirect worked fine before I added in the if statements for town below: if !params[:address].blank? town = Town.find(:all, :conditions => ["name = ?", params[:address]]) @towns = town if !town.blank? redirect_to '/town/' + params[:address] else @town_invalid = 'test' end end end I am sure it is something simple and that I simply cannot see it. Also if you see any glaring errors or code mishaps let me know as I am just starting out. EDIT: I should mention this is what I get back from Safari when a real town is entered: Safari can’t open the page.Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost:3000/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again. Thanks!

  Hi all, I am currently using Quartz Scheduler for asynchronous tasks such as sending an email when an exception occurs, sending an email from the web interface, or periodically analyzing traffic. Should I use a message queue for sending an email? Is it any more efficient or correct to do it that way? The scheduler approach works just fine. If I use a queue and the email failed to send, is it possible for the queue to retry sending the email at a later time? The queue approach looks simpler than the scheduler for tasks that need to happen immediately, but for scheduler tasks, the scheduler still, unless there is more to the queue than I am aware of. I have not yet used JMS, so this is what I have read. Walter

• Team Foundation Error: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized

  Hello everybody. I'm trying to connect to the Team Foundation Server's ClientService.asmx web services. Over here, the TFS has webservices for retrieving work items, queries, metadata and more...a quite complete and useful set of information to get. My problem is that trying to access these services leads to an error: TF51313: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized I assume it has something to do with the RequestHeader Id structure. I give it a GUID inside the code I'm working on, but I don't know how correct it is...or what value it should have to begin with. Note: I can't use the TFS API/SDK because I am building a mobile application. Also an application on the TFS server side to communicate with the API and expose web services is not an option. Thanks.

• Can't get Logback Eclipse plugin to display output

  I followed these instructions here: http://logback.qos.ch/consolePlugin.html I have the correct and found logback.xml, it is set up correctly, and the port is listening. Nothing shows up with logger.error("Test"); It logs to sysout fine when I remove logback.xml, which shows to me that the logback is working fine. I installed the plugin on linux by moving it to /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins ...The window shows up, but no logging events are showing up. I also added a catch all ACCEPT filter like on that link. Perhaps this is a linux permission issue?

  hi, 1) if I create items in a for loop, is correct to add a new eventListener for each item ? Or should I add only 1 eventListener to the parent ? and call the event through ID ? 2) if I want to scale my item, (a LinkButton with icon image), I noticed that the icon is sometimes resized with delay, so I have a bit of flickering when I trigger the event. Should I not use icons, and set the image in another way ? How can I fix this ? thanks

  Hi, Is there any best practice when working with AST:s? I have a parsed expression AST. ConstantExpression, BinaryExpression etc. I want to populate a GUI-dialog with information from the AST, and it's here where I get kinda confused because my code gets pretty messy. Example: expression = "Var1 > 10 AND Var2 < 20" I want to populate two textboxes with value 10 resp. 20 from the AST. What I'm doing now is a recursive method that checks for correct child expression-types (with .Net Is-operator) and acts accordingly and the code is really "smelly" :) Is there any design pattern, like Visitor or such, that makes this somewhat easier/more readable/maintainable ?

• Passing jQuery object and WebMethod return value to an OnSuccess function

  I am calling a WebMethod from this code: if($(this).attr("checked")) { .. MyWebMethod(variable1, variable2, onSuccessFunction); } The MyWebMethod returns an integer, and I want to set $(this).attr("id") of the jQuery object above to the returned integer. Basically, I'm trying to do the equivalent of an MVC Ajax.ActionLink...AjaxOptions {UpdateTargetID =...} However, I can't figure out how to get both a reference to $(this) as well as the returned value. For example, if I do: MyWebMethod(variable1, variable2, onSuccessFunction($(this))); I can succesfully manipulate the jQuery object, but obviously it doesn't have the return value from the MyWebMethod. Alternatively, the first code block with a method signature of onSuccessFunction(returnValue) has the correct return value from MyWebMethod, but no concept of the jQuery object I'm looking for. Am I going about this all wrong?

• Unexpected behavior with AudioQueueServices callback while recording audio

  I'm recording a continuous stream of data using AudioQueueServices. It is my understanding that the callback will only be called when the buffer fills with data. In practice, the first callback has a full buffer, the 2nd callback is 3/4 full, the 3rd callback is full, the 4th is 3/4 full, and so on. These buffers are 8000 packets (recording 8khz audio) - so I should be getting back 1s of audio to the callback each time. I've confirmed that my audio queue buffer size is correct (and is somewhat confirmed by the behavior). What am I doing wrong? Should I be doing something in the AudioQueueNewInput with a different RunLoop? I tried but this didn't seem to make a difference... By the way, if I run in the debugger, each callback is full with 8000 samples - making me think this is a threading / timing thing.

  Hi all, My company is putting auto build and deploy procedure in place. What we are doing now is checking out source code from svn and specify the source folder in Ant script. Is it the right way? Can we omit the exporting process and build directly from SVN? Another question is to do with versioning. At the moment, we are creating a tag whenever there is a release and then use the tag number to name the build product, which will be shipped to a client's site. I've done search on the Internet and here and it seems the correct way to name a product is like this: x.y.z.revision. However, our company is quite small and the client always want quick changes and releases. I would like to know what the drawbacks of only using tag number to name the product?   Hey, I'd be happy to give you more info if you need, just ask for it. I have in my database a table of articles, a table of tags and a link table. The article table has values like Id, Subject etc etc, the tags only have Id and Tag. The link has TagId and ArticleId. The problem is that when I drag drop the link-table nothing happens! This all worked before I decided to rename my column in the tables from "ID" to "Id" to correct spelling. Thanks in advance!

I find if a user is in /etc/sudoers file, then if the user run command with sudo, the user will run this command with root privilege (without knowing root password, the user runs sudo only need to input the user's own password in order to run a command with sudo). Is that correct understanding? 2. If yes, then is it a security hole? Since users other than root could run with root privilege? thanks in advance, George

  Hello, I'm trying to use ruby-debug19 with Ruby 1.9.1p376 but am getting the following error: test.rb:2:in `require': no such file to load -- ruby-debug19 (LoadError) from test.rb:2:in `<main>' Here's test.rb: require 'rubygems' require 'ruby-debug19' Here's the output of "gem list": *** LOCAL GEMS *** ruby-debug19 (0.11.6) (etc.) So running "ruby test.rb" generates the above error. Am I doing this wrong? I thought this was the correct way to run ruby-debug19 (by including the gem and adding "debugger" statements) and haven't been able to find any articles/posts with the same problem. I am using RVM but the above output is all under the same version of Ruby ("ruby -v" shows 1.9.1p376 as expected, and the gem list output is specific to that version and not the OS X system-installed version 1.8.7).
