Terminate function on System.in .. possible?

I am currently working on a project where I have to make an agent to interact with a server. Each 50ms, the server will receive the last thing I outputted to System.out and send me a new set of lines as a 'state' through the System.in printstream to analyze and send my next message to System.out. Also, if the server receives multiple outputs from me, it only regards the most recent one. .. As for my question: My program originally constructed a tree and then analyzed each leaf node to see which would be optimal, and then waited around for the next input, but I can recursively do a deeper tree search that would make my output 'better' (and again and again to keep returning a better result). Using this and the fact that if the server receives multiple outputs, it only takes the most recent one, I could do each level, print my result and start the next level. But here comes my problem... I can't be stuck in some complex algorithm while I am supposed to receiving the next input as I will then miss it. So I was wondering if there is a way to cancel anything else I am doing when I receive something via System.in and then go back to the beginning of the function and start the search again with the new set of input (and rinse and repeat..) After it's saved, I insert it to the tree. So I can't change the slug until then. I think a Transaction listener could work, but I'm use there is a better way I'm not seeing right now. thanks!

XPath and XML: Multiple namespaces

So I have a document that looks like <a xmlns="uri1" xmlns:pre2="uri2"> <pre3:c> <stuff></stuff> <goes></goes> <here></here> </pre3:c> <pre3:d xmlns="uri4"> <under></under> <the></the> <tree></tree> </pre3:d> </a> I want an xpath expression that will get me <under>. This has a namespaceURI of uri4. Right now my expression looks like: //ns:a/ns:b/pre3:d/pre4:under I have the namespace manager add 'ns' for the default namespace (uri1 in this case) and I have it defined with pre2, pre3, and pre4 for uri2, uri3, and uri4 respectively. I get the error "Expression must evaluate to a node-set." I know that the node exists. I know that everything up until the pre4:under in my xpath works fine as I use it in the rest of the document with no issues. It's the additional pre4:under that causes the error, and I'm not sure why. Any ideas? Thanks.

WPF bound object update notification

What I want is to know the exact moment when this update finishes, so I can do something right there, the thing is that I created an indicator of the selected item, and when something moves, I need to update said indicator's position, that's the reason I need it exactly when the tree view updates. Let me know if you know a solution to this. Also, the code is not perfect (DestroyRoom and PersonLeave), but you get the idea. Thanks!

while trying to learn sql i came across "Learn SQL The Hard Way" and i started reading it. Everything was going fine then i thought ,as a way to practice, to make something like given example in the book (example consists in 3 tables pet,person,person_pet and the person_pet table 'links' pets to their owners). My first thought was SELECT report.id,report.content AS report_content,note.content AS note_content FROM report,note WHERE report.id = note.report_id but this only returns the ones that have a match (would not return the invalid report). after this i tried adding IF conditions but i just made it worse. My question is, is this something i will figure out after getting past basic sql or can this be done in simple way? Anyway i would appreciate any help, i pretty much lost with this. Thank you. EDIT: i have looked into related questions but havent yet found one that solves my problem. I probably need to look into other statements such as join or something to sort this out.

JSF2: Re-render all components on page that have a given ID, without absolute paths

Is there any way in JSF 2.0/PrimeFaces of re-rendering all components (using the PrimeFaces update="id1 id2..." attribute or the <f:ajax render="..."/> tag) that have got a given ID, regardless of whether they are in the same form that contains the button triggering the AJAX re-render or not? For example, I want my button to re-render all sections on a page that visualize the user's current shopping basket. Right now, I always have to specify the absolute path to the components that I want to get updated, e.g. update=":header:basket :left-sidebar:menu:basket" which is rather impractical if the structure of the page changes (besides, I have not been able to figure out the correct path for one of these components). I already tried to implement a custom EL function like this, which traverses the component tree: update="{utilBean.findAllComponentsMatchingId('basket')}" but at the time that function is evaluated, apparently not the entire component tree has been set up as it doesn't contain the components I am looking for. How can I deal with this? There certainly must be an easy way of doing AJAX-based updates of sections of the page that are not part of the current <h:form>? Thanks!

Quickly accessing files in a 'project'

Hi all. I'm looking for a way to quickly open files in my project's source tree. What I've been doing so far is adding files to the file-name-cache like so: (file-cache-add-directory-recursively (concat project-root "some/sub/folder") ".*\\.\$py\$$") after which I can use anything-for-files to access any file in the source tree with about 4 keystrokes. Unfortunately, this solution started falling over today. I've added another folder to the cache and emacs has started running out of memory. What's weird is that this folder contains less than 25% of files I'm adding, and yet emacs memory use goes up from 20mb to 400mb on adding just this folder. The total number of files is around 2000, so this memory use seems very high. Presumably I'm abusing the file cache. Anyway, what do other people do for this? I like this solution for its simplicity and speed; I've looked at some of the many, many project management packages for emacs and none of them really grabbed me... Thanks in advance! Simon

Simulate stochastic bipartite network based on trait values of species - in R

I would like to create bipartite networks in R. For example, if you have a data.frame of two types of species (that can only interact across species, not within species), and each species has a trait value (e.g., size of mouth in the predator allows who gets to eat which prey species), how do we simulate a network based on the traits of the species (that is, two species can only interact if their traits overlap in values for instance)? Overloading __eq, __lt, and __le in a metatable always converts the returning value to a boolean. Is there a way to access the actual return value? Need help debugging a huge chunk of JSON data...

I have a huge chunk, so large that I can't manually edit the file and need to read it in and do regex operations to see what's wrong. Basically - my server is PHP 5.1.6 and I can't update it. Is there a free tool which can help visualize the logic of a stored procedure in SQL Server 2008 R2?

I would like to be able to plot a call graph of a stored procedure. I am not interested in every detail, and I am not concerned with dynamic SQL (although it would be cool to detect it and skip it maybe or mark it as such.) I would like the tool to generate a tree for me, given the server name, db name, stored proc name, a "call tree", which includes: Parent stored procedure. Every other stored procedure that is being called as a child of the caller. Every table that is being modified (updated or deleted from) as a child of the stored proc which does it. Hopefully it is clear what I am after; if not - please do ask. If there is not a tool that can do this, then I would like to try to write one myself. Python 2.6 is my language of choice, and I would like to use standard libraries as much as possible. Any suggestions? EDIT: For the purposes of bounty Warning: SQL syntax is COMPLEX. I need something that can parse all kinds of SQL 2008, even if it looks stupid. No corner cases barred :) EDIT2: I would be OK if all I am missing is graphics.

Where to start with the development of first database driven Web App (long question)?

Hi all, I've decided to develop a database driven web app, but I'm not sure where to start. The end goal of the project is three-fold: 1) to learn new technologies and practices, 2) deliver an unsolicited demo to management that would show how information that the company stores as office documents spread across a cumbersome network folder structure can be consolidated and made easier to access and maintain and 3) show my co-workers how Test Drive Development and prototyping via class diagrams can be very useful and reduces future maintenance headaches. I think this ends up being a basic CMS to which I have generated a set of features, see below. 1) Create a database to store the site structure (organized as a tree with a 'project group'-project structure). 2) Pull the site structure from the database and display as a tree using basic front end technologies. 3) Add administrator privileges/tools for modifying the site structure. 4) Auto create required sub pages* when an admin adds a new project. 4.1) There will be several sub pages under each project and the content for each sub page is different. 5) add user privileges for assigning read and write privileges to sub pages. What I would like to do is use Test Driven Development and class diagramming as part of my process for developing this project. My problem; I'm not sure where to start. I have read on Unit Testing and UML, but never used them in practice. Also, having never worked with databases before, how to I incorporate these items into the models and test units? How does git fetches commits associated to a file ?

I'm writing a simple parser of .git/* files. I covered almost everything, like objects, refs, pack files etc. But I have a problem. Let's say I have a big 300M repository (in a pack file) and I want to find out all the commits which changed /some/deep/inside/file file. What I'm doing now is: fetching last commit finding a file in it by: fetching parent tree finding out a tree inside recursively repeat until I get into the file additionally I'm checking hashes of each subfolders on my way to file. If one of them is the same as in commit before, I assume that file was not changed (because it's parent dir didn't change) then I store the hash of a file and fetch parent commit finding file again and check if hash change occurs if yes then original commit (i.e. one before parent) was changing a file And I repeat it over and over until I reach very first commit. This solution works, but it sucks. In worse case scenario, first search can take even 3 minutes (for 300M pack). Is there any way to speed it up ? I tried to avoid putting so large objects in memory, but right now I don't see any other way. And even that, initial memory load will take forever :( Greets and thanks for any help!

Simple Oracle File repository with folder hierarchy

I have an application that stores large amount of files (XML and binary) in folder hierarchies. Currently the main method is storing them in file system or using a legacy CMS, which we want to get rid of. The CMS supports Oracle and a customer wants to keep the files in Oracle because of enterprise policies (backup etc.) The question is: Is there a simple implementation of file repository with folder hierarchy for Oracle? What I am looking for is a small .Net component or example code (PL/SQL and/or .Net) that would have the following methods: Create, Delete, Exists Folder CRUD file Move and potentially Copy file or directory Access to files and folders with paths like "/root/folder1/folder2/file.xml" Ability to get all the files and folders in a folder and potentially also the entire directory tree Tree traversal, getting the parent, all children etc. needs to be fast. I need the implementation in .Net, but if it was just the stored procedures, I could create the .Net calling code. I have pointers to generic articles for creating hierarchies in DB, so if I need to do it from scratch, I know where to start. What I am asking here, is there already an implementation that I could take without doing this from scratch? It seems like such a generic requirement... If the answer is a CMS, Document management system or such it should be Open Source or at least quite cheap (some hundreds / server) and it should be possible to deploy it XCopy - hopefully only couple of DLL:s. I do not need - or want - a full featured big CMS with dozens of dlls and especially not an msi-installation. I have tried to google this, but the words "repository", "CMS", "file hierarchy" etc. give so many answers, the searches are pretty much useless. Thanks, OPe

Vacancy Tracking Algorithm implementation in C++

I'm trying to use the vacancy tracking algorithm to perform transposition of multidimensional arrays in C++. The arrays come as void pointers so I'm using address manipulation to perform the copies. Basically, there is an algorithm that starts with an offset and works its way through the whole 1-d representation of the array like swiss cheese, knocking out other offsets until it gets back to the original one. Then, you have to start at the next, untouched offset and do it again. You repeat until all offsets have been touched. Right now, I'm using a std::set to just fill up all possible offsets (0 up to the multiplicative fold of the dimensions of the array). Then, as I go through the algorithm, I erase from the set. I figure this would be fastest because I need to randomly access offsets in the tree/set and delete them. Then I need to quickly find the next untouched/undeleted offset. First of all, filling up the set is very slow and it seems like there must be a better way. It's individually calling new[] for every insert. So if I have 5 million offsets, there's 5 million news, plus re-balancing the tree constantly which as you know is not fast for a pre-sorted list. Second, deleting is slow as well. Third, assuming 4-byte data types like int and float, I'm using up actually the same amount of memory as the array itself to store this list of untouched offsets. Fourth, determining if there are any untouched offsets and getting one of them is fast -- a good thing. Does anyone have suggestions for any of these issues?

Prevent cached objects to end up in the database with Entity Framework

We have an ASP.NET project with Entity Framework and SQL Azure. A big part of our data only needs to be updated a few times a day, other data is very volatile. The data that barely changes we cache in memory at startup, detach from the context and than use it mainly for reading, drastically lowering the amount of database requests we have to do. The volatile data is requested everytime by a DbContext per Http request. When we do an update to the cached data, we send a message to all instances to catch a fresh version of all the data from the SQL server. So far, so good. Until we introduced a bug that linked one of these 'cached' objects to the 'volatile' data, and did a SaveChanges. Well, that was quite a mess. The whole data tree was added again and again by every update, corrupting the whole database with a whole lot of duplicated data. As a complete hack I added a completely arbitrary column with a UniqueConstraint and some gibberish data on one of the root tables; hopefully failing the SaveChanges() next time we introduce such a bug because it will violate the Unique Constraint. But it is of course hacky, and I'm still pretty scared ;P Are there any better ways to prevent whole tree's of cached objects ending up in the database? More information Project is ASP.NET MVC I cache this data, because it is mainly read only, and this saves a tons of extra database calls per http request

Is it wrong for a context (right click) menu be the only way a user can perform a certain task?

I'd like to know if it ever makes sense to provide some functionality in a piece of software that is only available to the user through a context (right click) menu. It seems that in most software I've worked with the right click menu is always used as a quick way to get to features that are otherwise available from other buttons or menus. Below is a screen shot of the UI I'm developing. The tree view on the right shows the user's library of catalogs. Users can create new catalogs, or add and remove existing catalogs to and from their library. Catalogs in their library can then be opened or closed, or set to read-only. The screen shot shows the context menu I've created for the browser. Some commands can be executed independently from any specific catalog (New, Add). Yet the other commands must be applied to a specifically selected catalog (Close, Open, Remove, ReadOnly, Refresh, Clean UP, Rename). Currently the "Catalog" menu at the top of the window looks identical to this context menu. Yet I think this may be confusing to the users as the tree view which shows the currently selected catalog may not always be visible. The user may have switched to the Search or Filters tab, or the left pane may be hidden entirely. However, I'm hesitant to change the UI so that the commands that depends on a specifically selected catalog are only available through the context menu.

Is this a bug? what should i do to get rid of this error.. Each order record consists of a number of item records starting with a 3 digit number, followed by a single Summary Record which starts with the constant ORD. Start with a SOA Composite containing a File Adapter The Format Builder is part of the File Adapter so start by creating a new SOA Project and Composite. Here is a quick summary for those not familiar with these steps - Start JDeveloper - From the Main Menu choose File->New - In the New Gallery window that opens Expand the “General” category and Select the Applications node. Then choose SOA Application from the Items section on the right. Finally press the OK button. - In Step 1 of the “Create SOA Application wizard” that appears enter an Application Name and an Directory of your choice, then press the Next button. - In Step 2 of the “Create SOA Application wizard”, press the Next button leaving all entries as defaulted. - In Step 3 of the “Create SOA Application wizard”, Enter a composite name of your choice and Press the Finish Button These steps result in a new Application and SOA Project. The SOA Project contains a composite.xml file which is opened and shown below. For our example we have not defined a Mediator or a BPEL process to minimize the steps, but one or the other would eventually be needed to use the File Adapter we are about to create. Drag and drop the File Adapter icon from the Component Pallette onto either the LEFT side of the diagram under “Exposed Services” or the right side under “External References”. (See the Green Circle in the image below). Placing the adapter on the left side would indicate the file being processed is inbound to the composite, if the adapter is placed on the right side then the data is outbound to a file. Note that the same Format Builder definition can be used in both directions. For example we could use the format with a File Adapter on the left side of the composite to parse fixed data into XML, modify the data in our Composite or BPEL process and then use the same Format Builder definition with a File adapter on the right side of the composite to write the data back out in the same fixed data format When the File Adapter is dropped on the Composite the File Adapter Wizard Appears. Skip Past the first page, Step 1 of 9 by pressing the Next button. In Step 2 enter a service name of your choice as shown below, then press Next When the Native Format Builder appears, skip the welcome page by pressing next. Also press the Next button to accept the settings on Step 3 of 9 On Step 4, select Read File and press the Next button as shown below. On Step 5 enter a directory that will contain a file with the input data, then Press the Next button as shown below. In step 6, enter *.txt or another file format to select input files from the input directory mentioned in step 5. ALSO check the “Files contain Multiple Messages” checkbox and set the “Publish Messages in Batches of” field to 1. The value can be set higher to increase the number of logical order group records returned on each poll of the file adapter. In other words, it determines the number of Orders that will be sent to each instance of a Mediator or Composite processing using the File Adapter. Skip Step 7 by pressing the Next button In Step 8 press the Gear Icon on the right side to load the Native Format Builder. Native Format Builder appears Before diving into the format, here is an overview of the process. Approach - Bottom up Assuming an Order is a grouping of item records and a summary record…. - Define a separate Complex Type for each Record Type found in the group. (One for itemRecord and one for summaryRecord) - Define a Complex Type to contain the Group of Record types defined above (LogicalOrderRecord) - Define a top level element to represent an order. (order) The order element will be of type LogicalOrderRecord Defining the Format In Step 1 select “Create new” and “Complex Type” and “Next” In Step two browse to and select a file containing the test data shown at the start of this article. A link is provided at the end of this article to download a file containing the test data. Press the Next button In Step 3 Complex types must be define for each type of input record. Select the Root-Element and Click on the Add Complex Type icon This creates a new empty complex type definition shown below. The fastest way to create the definition is to highlight the first line of the Sample File data and drag the line onto the <new_complex_type> Format Builder introspects the data and provides a grid to define additional fields. Change the “Complex Type Name” to “itemRecord” Then click on the ruler to indicate the position of fixed columns. Drag the red triangle icons to the exact columns if necessary. Double click on an existing red triangle to remove an unwanted entry. In the case below fields are define in columns 0-3, 4-28, 29-eol When the field definitions are correct, press the “Generate Fields” button. Field entries named C1, C2 and C3 will be created as shown below. Click on the field names and rename them from C1->itemNum, C2->itemDesc and C3->itemCost When all the fields are correctly defined press OK to save the complex type. Next, the process is repeated to define a Complex Type for the SummaryRecord. Select the Root-Element in the schema tree and press the new complex type icon Then highlight and drag the Summary Record from the sample data onto the <new_complex_type> Change the complex type name to “summaryRecord” Mark the fixed fields for Order Number and Order Date. Press the Generate Fields button and rename C1 and C2 to itemNum and orderDate respectively. The last complex type to be defined is a type to hold the group of items and the summary record. Select the Root-Element in the schema tree and click the new complex type icon Select the “<new_complex_type>” entry and click the pencil icon On the Complex Type Details page change the name and type of each input field. Change line 1 to be named item and set the Type to “itemRecord” Change line 2 to be named summary and set the Type to “summaryRecord” We also need to indicate that itemRecords repeat in the input file. Click the pencil icon at the right side of the item line. On the Edit Details page change the “Max Occurs” entry from 1 to UNBOUNDED. We also need to indicate how to identify an itemRecord. Since each item record has “.” in column 32 we can use this fact to differentiate an item record from a summary record. Change the “Look Ahead” field to value 32 and enter a period in the “Look For” field Press the OK button to save entry. Finally, its time to create a top level element to represent an order. Select the “Root-Element” in the schema tree and press the New element icon Click on the <new_element> and press the pencil icon. Set the Element Name to “order” and change the Data Type to “logicalOrderRecord” Press the OK button to save the element definition. The final definition should match the screenshot below. Press the Next Button to view the definition source. Press the Test Button to test the definition Press the Green Triangle Icon to run the test. And we are presented with an unwelcome error. The error states that the processor ran out of data while working through the definition. The processor was unable to differentiate between itemRecords and summaryRecords and therefore treated the entire file as a list of itemRecords. At end of file, the “summary” portion of the logicalOrderRecord remained unprocessed but mandatory. This root cause of this error is the loss of our “lookAhead” definition used to identify itemRecords. This appears to be a bug in the Native Format Builder 11.1.1.4.0 Luckily, a simple workaround exists. Press the Cancel button and return to the “Step 4 of 4” Window. Manually add nxsd:lookAhead="32" nxsd:lookFor="." attributes after the maxOccurs attribute of the item element. as shown in the highlighted text below. When the lookAhead and lookFor attributes have been added Press the Test button and on the Test page press the Green Triangle. The test is now successful, the first order in the file is returned by the File Adapter. Below is a complete listing of the Result XML from the right column of the screen above Try running it The downloaded input test file and completed schema file can be used for testing without following all the Native Format Builder steps in this example. Use the following link to download a file containing the sample data. Download Sample Input Data This is the best approach rather than cutting and pasting the input data at the top of the article. Since the data is fixed length it’s very important to watch out for trailing spaces in the data and to ensure an eol character at the end of every line. The download file is correctly formatted. The final schema definition can be downloaded at the following link Download Completed Schema Definition - Save the inputData.txt file to a known location like the xsd folder in your project. - Save the inputData_6.xsd file to the xsd folder in your project. - At step 1 in the Native Format Builder wizard (as shown above) check the “Edit existing” radio button, then browse and select the inputData_6.xsd file - At step 2 of the Format Builder configuration Wizard (as shown above) supply the path and filename for the inputData.txt file. - You can then proceed to the test page and run a test. - Remember the wizard bug will drop the lookAhead and lookFor attributes, you will need to manually add nxsd:lookAhead="32" nxsd:lookFor="." after the maxOccurs attribute of the item element in the LogicalOrderRecord Complex Type.
