  • How to make a slide gesture in a view?

    - by AedonEtLIRA
    I have a grid layout that holds a limited 6 items per screen. This set number is just a base for the app and make it look and feel better so it must stay set to that. To get passed this and to add some flash to the app, I want to animate a style of screen change. For instance, when a finger is dragged left, push the current view to the side and bring the next it, very similar to how a gallery does it, except I would like it to be able to scroll vertical as well. Any help or tutorials will be appreciated ~Aedon.

  • Can't get Dialog hosting a WebView to layout properly

    - by user246114
    Hi, I'm trying to host a webview on a dialog, without a titlebar, but I'm getting odd layout results. Example test: @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); WindowManager wm = (WindowManager)getContext().getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE); Display display = wm.getDefaultDisplay(); LinearLayout ll = new LinearLayout(getContext()); ll.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); ll.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT)); ll.setMinimumWidth(display.getWidth() - 10); ll.setMinimumHeight(display.getHeight() - 10); WebView wv = new WebView(getContext()); wv.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT)); wv.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true); ll.addView(mWebView); setContentView(ll, new LinearLayout.LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT)); } the dialog is inflated at startup, but the webview is not visible. If I rotate the device, it becomes visible, and fills the whole parent layout as requested. What is the right way to do this? I simply want a dialog which occupies most of the device screen, and has a WebView on it which fills the entire space. Thanks

  • Contacts activity doesn't return data

    - by Mike
    In my app I simply open the list of activities and when a contact is clicked I attempt to retrieve the name of the contact selected and put it into a string. The app crashes in the onActivityResult() function. I do have the READ_CONTACTS permission set. /** * Opens the contacts activity */ public void openContacts() { Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, People.CONTENT_URI); startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_CONTACT); } @Override public void onActivityResult(int reqCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { super.onActivityResult(reqCode, resultCode, data); switch (reqCode) { case (PICK_CONTACT) : if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) { Uri contactData = data.getData(); Cursor c = managedQuery(contactData, null, null, null, null); //NullPointerException thrown here, line 102 if (c.moveToFirst()) { String name = c.getString(c.getColumnIndexOrThrow(People.NAME)); FRIEND_NAME = name; showConfirmDialog(name); } } break; } } The following logcat error logs are returned: Any help is appreciated. • AudioTrack skipping after pause and resume

    - by Markus Drösser
    Hi, here is the problem. I play a wav file that i recorded earlier without problems. but when i call audiotrack.pause() and audiotrack.start() again after some waiting, it skips some frames of the file. why is that? here is my play listener // Start playback audioTrack.setPlaybackPositionUpdateListener(new OnPlaybackPositionUpdateListener() { @Override public void onPeriodicNotification(AudioTrack track) { try { if(ramfile!=null && ramfile.read(buffer)==-1) { audioTrack.release(); audioTrack = null; ramfile.close(); playing=false; } else { audioTrack.write(buffer, 0, buffer.length); } } catch (IOException e) { try { ramfile.close(); playing=false; } catch (IOException e1) { } } } @Override public void onMarkerReached(AudioTrack track) { playing=false; track.release(); } });

  • Is it possible to creating a Service without starting it?

    - by ThaMe90
    Hello all, I wonder, is it possible to create a Service, set some data, and then start it? I haven't come across a thread specific to this problem, so I would like to know if it is possible (if it is known of course). My problem is that I have a Service which listens to a DatagramSocket, but the socket in question needs to be set after creation, but before the start of the Service. The setting of the socket happens through the use of a Broadcast (I broadcast 2 Strings which hold the IP-Address & Port and the BroadcastReceiver then constructs a socket for me). When the Service is started, a Thread will start to run and listen to the supposedly created socket. This, sadly, doesn't happen. The socket will remain null and I can't set it when the Thread is running (This is another issue I hope to tackle in the future, if anybody got any ideas about this, please notify me). So, is what I want possible, or should I come up with another construct for achieving this goal?

  • Intercept creation of activities when the application is restored

    - by Johan Bilien
    Most of our activities access a user-specific model. All these activities inherit from a ModelActivity base class, which provides a getModel() call. When one of these activities detect that the user has signed out (through the AccountManager callback), it sticks to its existing model, but prepares to exit back to the root activity (which is not user-specific) by starting its intent with FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP. If however the user deletes an account while the app is not running, we run into trouble when the activity is restored. Now the activity needs to handle there not being a model, which makes the code more complicated and bug-prone. Ideally we would intercept the application restore process before the activity is created. Then we would check whether we have an account and a model, and if not clear up the saved stack of activities, and restart from our root activity instead of the last saved activity. But as far as I can tell the first place where we can run code is in the onCreate callback of the activity. Is there a way to run some code when the application is restored from background-saving, but before the saved activity is created?

  • ImageView Force closes my application

    - by BlueFireLady
    Hi there I am really a beginner, and I have been fighting with this problem for 3 days. :( I am able to get an image to show using a grid view and an adapter as in the grid view tutorial, but I wanted to be able to just use ImageView in the xml. public class HelloImage extends Activity { public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ImageView gridview = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.gridview); gridview.setLayoutParams(new GridView.LayoutParams(85, 85)); gridview.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP); gridview.setPadding(8, 8, 8, 8); gridview.setImageResource(R.drawable.hand_tool); } } When I run this it causes the app to force close when loading.

  • What is the optimal way to animate a drawable within a view using the animator classes?

    - by littleFluffyKitty
    I have read about Property Animation and Hardware Acceleration but I am still uncertain what is the most efficient way to use the animator classes. (For the sake of this question I don't need to support devices before Honeycomb. So I want to use the animator classes.) For example, say I have a View. In this view I have a BitmapDrawable that I want to fade in. There are also many other elements within the view that won't change. What property or object would be best to use with the animator? The drawable? A paint that I am drawing the bitmap with in onDraw? Something else? How can this be done to be most efficient with hardware acceleration? Will this require calling invalidate for each step of the animation or is there a way to animate just the drawable and not cause the rest of the view to be redrawn completely for each step of the animation? I guess I imagine an optimal case would be the rest of the view not having to be completely redrawn in software, but rather hardware acceleration efficiently fading the drawable. Any suggestions or pointers to recommended approaches? Thanks!

  • http connection timeout issues

    - by Mark
    I'm running into an issue when i try to use the HttpClient connecting to a url. The http connection is taking a longer time to timeout, even after i set a connection timeoout. int timeoutConnection = 5000; HttpConnectionParams.setConnectionTimeout(httpParameters, timeoutConnection); int timeoutSocket = 5000; HttpConnectionParams.setSoTimeout(httpParameters, timeoutSocket); It works perfect most of the time. However, every once in while, the http connection runs for ever and ignore the setconnectiontimeout, especailly when the phone is connected to wifi, and the phone was idling. So after the phone is idling, the first time i try to connect, the http connection ignores the setconnectiontimeout and runs forever, after i cancel it and try again, it works like charm everytime. But that one time that doesn't work it creates a threadtimeout error, i tried using a different thread, it works, but i know that the thread is running for long time. I understand that the wifi goes to sleep on idle, but i dont understand why its ignoring the setconnectiontimeout. Anyone can help, id really appreciated.

  • measuring a view before rendering it

    - by nourdine
    hello I need to find out how big a view will be after attaching it to its parent. I have overridden this method: onMeasure(int, int); but it looks like this method is invoked only when I actually add my custom view to it's container using: addView(myView); Do you think there is a way to get this information before rendering the view itself? Basically I need to know the actuall size before attaching it and not attach the view at all if it would take more certain amount of space. anybody?

  • How to make a recursive onClickListener for expanding and collapsing?

    - by hunterp
    In plain english, I have a textview, and when I click on it I want it to expand, and when I click on it again, I want it to compress. How can I do this? I've tried the below, but it warns on the final line about expander might not be initialized on holderFinal.text.setOnClickListener(expander); So now the code: final View.OnClickListener expander = new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { holderFinal.text.setText(textData); holderFinal.text.setOnClickListener( new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { holderFinal.text.setText(shortText); holderFinal.text.setOnClickListener(expander); } }); } };

  • Determining if an Activity exists on the current device?

    - by stormin986
    Is there a way to check and see if an Activity exists on your device? If I have a youtube video link I want to specify it open in the YouTube PlayerActivity. However, I don't want to crash if for some reason they don't have it. Is there a way to check and see if the activity exists? I don't think I can catch the runtime exception since startActivity() doesn't throw it.

  • getting page info from a webpage while sharing facebook style

    - by user556167
    Hi all. I am writing an app to share a page to friends when browsing. To this end, I can get the url of the page to my app and display it on the screen. Could anyone tell me, how to improve this, to show the headline of the page and the picture of a page as it appears when a page is being shared to friends on facebook. Here is the code to get and display the url of the page: Intent intent = getIntent(); String action = intent.getAction(); String type = intent.getType(); String mNewLinkUrl=""; if (action != null && type != null && Intent.ACTION_SEND.equals(action) && "text/plain".equals(type)){ mNewLinkUrl = intent.getStringExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TEXT); } TextView ptext = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.pagetext); ptext.append("\n"+mNewLinkUrl); Any insight will be appreciated. //update 1 found a method: use Jsoup to download the html as a Document. And use Elements and Element to get the data. For eg, the following is the code to get the links in imports in the html page: Elements imports = doc.select("link[href]"); for (Element link : imports) { Log.d(TAG,"link.tagName()"+link.tagName()+"link.attr(abs:href)"+link.attr("abs:href") +"link.attr(rel)"+link.attr("rel")); } But I am not able to figure out what attributes facebook exactly gets. Can anyone help me in this? Thank you.
