  My new phone does not recognize a phone number unless it's area code matches the incoming call. Since I live in Idaho where an area code is not needed for in-state calls, many of my contacts were saved without an area code. Since I have thousands of contacts stored in my phone, it would not be practical to manually update them. I decided to write the following PHP script to handle the problem. • PHP Curl's Proxy feature causes no information to be returned

  I'm working on a PHP script right now which sends requests to our school's servers to get real-time information about class sizes for different courses. The script runs perfectly fine when I don't use a proxy, returning a string full of course numbers and available seats. However, I want to make this a service for the students, and I'm afraid that if I make too many requests my ip will get blocked. So I'm attempting to do this through a proxy, with no success. As soon as I add the CURLOPT_HTTPPROXYTUNNEL and CURLOPT_PROXY fields to my requests nothing gets returned. I'm not even sure how to troubleshoot it at this point since I'm not getting an error message of any kind. Does anyone know what's going on or how to at least troubleshoot it?

  A napokban olvastam egy érdekes 11g upgrade hatást Tom Kyte blogjában. Mivel mostanában sok hazai ügyfél tervez 11g upgrade-et, úgy gondoltam beszámolok én is errol, hátha valakinek hasznos lehet, bár szerintem viszonylag kevesen futnak majd bele ebbe a problémába. Az érdekes jelenséget az Oracle Database 11g Release 2 verzióban bevezetett deferred segment creation okozza. Ez egy alapértelmezetten bekapcsolt képesség, ami arra való, hogy egy új tábla készítésekor az adatbázis-kezelo automatikusan nem foglal tárterületet, azaz nincs initial extent allokáció. Ennek az újításnak a célja az, hogy alkalmazások telepítésekor a létrejövo számtalan táblának ne legyen lefoglalva a tároló terület, amíg azokba nem kerül adat. Ez azért hasznos, mert sok dobozos alkalmazás számos olyan táblát létrehoz, amihez aztán végül nem is nyúl az adott környezetben (pl. nem használt alkalmazás funkció miatt). Összességében tehát sok feleslegesen lefoglalt diszk területet spórolhatunk ezzel, azonban ha egy táblatérre nincs kvótánk, akkor az eddig tapasztalt muködéssel szemben létre tudunk hozni táblákat, hiszen nem foglalunk le vele területet. Viszont az elso insert muveletnél kapunk egy "ORA-01950: no privileges on tablespace 'USERS'" hibát, ami nem volt megszokott insert muveletek esetén korábban. Hogy ez most bug, vagy feature, azt döntse el mindenki maga :-) Ha valakinek nem tetszik így, akkor persze kikapcsolhatja a deferred segment creation képességet akár az init/spfile szintjén, akár session szintjén ("alter session set deferred_segment_creation = false;"), de lehet a tábla létrehozásakor is szabályozni: "create table t ( x int ) segment creation immediate;"

• Boost.Python tutorial in Ubuntu 10.04

  I downloaded the latest version of Boost and I'm trying to get the Boost.python tutorial up and running on Ubuntu 10.04: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_43_0/libs/python/doc/tutorial/doc/html/python/hello.html I navigated to the correct directory, ran "bjam" and it compiled using default settings. I did not yet create a bjam config file. The compilation appears to have worked, but now I have no idea how to include the files in my python script. When I try to run the python hello world script, it gives me this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "./hello.py", line 6, in <module> import hello_ext ImportError: libboost_python.so.1.43.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Anyone know what is going on?

• Got a minus one from a read call.

  I connect to a database with read only access using SQL developer. It's a TNS connection. I use a tnsnames.ora, forwarding port script and SQL Developer. In the past, occasionally, when connecting, I get a error message Got a minus one from a read call. Vendor Code 0 If I do a reboot, it goes away. Another friend suggested changed the forwarding port which worked for him. I recently upgraded to a new computer and now it seems that I am getting the error message consistently. Reboot or changing forwarding port does not help at all. The port forwarding script contains something like this putty -L ::1521 Does anybody have any idea? Thanks.

  I have a file named cmd that contains a list of unix commands as follows: hostname pwd ls /tmp cat /etc/hostname ls -la ps -ef | grep java cat cmd I have another script that executes the commands in cmd as: IFS=$'\n' clear for cmds in `cat cmd` do if [ $cmds ] ; then $cmds; echo "****************************"; fi done The problem is that commands in cmd without spaces run fine, but those with spaces are not correctly interpreted by the script.   A little background: PEP 8 is the Style Guide for Python Code. It contains the conventions all python programmers should follow. pep8.py is a (very useful) script that checks the code formating of a given python script, according to PEP 8. Eclipse is a great IDE. With the Pydev extension, it that can be used to develop Python I run pep8.py manually when I'm scripting, but with bigger projects I prefer to use Eclipse. It would be really useful to integrate pep8.py in Eclipse/Pydev, so it can be run automatically in all the files in the project, and point to the lines containing the warnings. Maybe there is an obvious way to do it, but I haven't found it yet. Question is: How to integrate pep8.py in Eclipse?

• How to execute with /bin/false shell

  I am trying to setup per-user fastcgi scripts that will run each on a different port and with a different user. Here is example of my script: #!/bin/bash BIND=127.0.0.1:9001 USER=user PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=2 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=10000 etc... However, if I add user with /bin/false (which I want, since this is about to be something like shared hosting and I don't want users to have shell access), the script is run under 1001, 1002 'user' which, as my Google searches showed, might be a security hole. My question is: Is it possible to allow user(s) to execute shell scripts but disable them so they cannot log in via SSH?

• Suggestions for implementing a dynamic 2D level

  I am working on a game that needs a level that is completely generated. Currently my approach is to draw textures for the levels pixel by pixel during the game (in XNA with SpriteBatch). This is too intensive unfortunately. The game has frame drops even when I only draw 1 level texture each draw cycle. Here is an example of the current prototype. It is a simple sidescroller with the avatar swimming through a cave. The shape of this cave will alter throughout the level (textures and physics collision shapes). You can clearly see the boundaries of the level tiles in the screenshot below. These are generated just before they move into camera view. For inspiration I looked at PixelJunk Shooter 2. These levels are obviously not generated, but some of the levels have movement. How do you guys think they implemented it? My guess is that the level and other objects in the game are actually flat 3d models, but I am not sure..

From some Tutorials over the web, I figured out how to pass parameters to the Script as well how to make a task which is dependent on other subtasks.   Here is another interesting follow up blog post of SQL SERVER – sp_describe_first_result_set New System Stored Procedure in SQL Server 2012. While I was writing earlier blog post I had come across DMV sys.dm_exec_describe_first_result_set_for_object as well. I found that SQL Server 2012 is providing all this quick and new features which quite often we miss  to learn it and when in future someone demonstrates the same to us, we express our surprise on the subject. DMV sys.dm_exec_describe_first_result_set_for_object returns result set which describes the columns used in the stored procedure. Here is the quick example. Let us first create stored procedure. USE [AdventureWorks] GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[CompSP] AS SELECT [DepartmentID] id ,[Name] n ,[GroupName] gn FROM [HumanResources].[Department] GO Now let us run following two DMV which gives us meta data description of the stored procedure passed as a parameter. Option1: Pass second parameter @include_browse_information as a 0. SELECT * FROM sys.dm_exec_describe_first_result_set_for_object ( OBJECT_ID('[dbo].[CompSP]'),0) AS Table1 GO Option2: Pass second parameter @include_browse_information as a 1. SELECT * FROM sys.dm_exec_describe_first_result_set_for_object ( OBJECT_ID('[dbo].[CompSP]'),1) AS Table1 GO Here is the result of Option1 and Option2. If you see the result, there is absolutely no difference between the results. Both of the resultset are returning column names which are aliased in the stored procedure. Let us scroll on the right side and you will notice that there is clear difference in some columns. You will see in second resultset source_database, Source_schema as well few other columns are reporting original table instead of NULL values. When @include_browse_information result is set to 1 it will provide the columns details of the underlying table. I have just discovered this DMV, I have yet to use it in production code and find out where exactly I will use this DMV. Do you have any idea? Does any thing comes up to your mind where this DMV can be helpful. • Trying to cause java.lang.OutOfMemoryException

  Hi, I am trying to reproduce java.lang.OutOfMemoryException in Jboss4, which one of our client got, presumably by running the J2EE applications over days/weeks. I am trying to find a way for the webapp to spitout java.lang.OutOfMemoryException in a matter of minutes (instead of days/weeks). One thing come into mind is to write a selenium script and has the script bombards the webapps. One other thing that we can do is to reduce JVM heap size, but we would prefer not to do this, as we want to see the limit of our system. Any suggestions? ps: I don't have access to the source code.

• Reference methods defined in one JScript file from another JScript

  I am writing some server-side scripts using jscript and WSH. The scripts are getting quite long, and some common functions and variables would fit better in a general library script which I included in my various script instances. But, I cannot find a way reference one JScript file from another. For a moment, I though reading the file contents and passing it to "eval()" could work. But, as it says on MSDN: "Note that new variables or types defined in the eval statement are not visible to the enclosing program." • jQuery and Canvas.toDataURL

  I'm working on a script, and a small part of that involves taking a canvas and converting it to a downloadable image. To do this, I do: var thumb_jpeg = thumbnail.toDataURL("image/jpeg"); $("#" + options.dest).attr('src',thumb_jpeg); ...where thumbnail is a canvas tag and options.dest is the name of an img id. This code works perfectly in Chrome, but when I try it in Firefox, Firebug throws up this error: Security error" code: "1000 var thumb_jpeg = thumbnail.toDataURL("image/jpeg"); I would link to the whole script, but everything is hosted on my computer. • STAThread and Process output capture in c#

  Hi: This is a strange problem I encountered. I have an window application written in c# to do testing. It has a MDI parent form that is hosting a few children forms. One of the forms launch test cripts by creating processes and capture the scripts output to a text box. Another form open serial port and monitoring the status of the device I am working on(like a shell). If I ran both of them together, the output of the script seems only appear in the text box after the test is done. However, If I don't open the serial port form, the output of the script is captured in real time. Does anyone knows what's causing the problem? I notice the onDataReceived even handler for serial port form has a [STAThread] header to it. Will this cause the serial port thread having higher priority than other processes? Thanks in advance.

• uppercase to lowercase in bash on a mac

  Hi I'm writing a bash script which needs to convert a string to lowercase. The problem is I'm doing it on a mac so 'tr' is not available. How can I go about doing this on a mac? The problem I'm trying to tackle is that my script needs to recognize an if an extension is a .gif or a .jpg - and I don't want to have to check for .jpeg, .jPeg, .JPEG, .JPeg, etc etc etc... if there's a smarter way of doing this than just converting to lowercase and testing for gif, jpg and jpeg, i'm all ears :)

• CurvyCorners in Wordpress Theme only rounds some corners in IE - what am I doing wrong?

  Hi, I'm implementing the CurvyCorners script on a blog I'm developing. The script works in IE on some parts of the blog, but not others. I don't know if this has something to do with the fact the theme I'm using (Pure II by beathemes) has placed the left side in the footer.php?

  So I'm using a basic formmail script. Within the script I'm using a redirect variable. The value of the redirect is something like,"http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&IBC=CSEE&SIBC=CSEE" When the redirect action happens however, the url appears in the browser as: http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&amp;IBC=CSEE&amp;SIBC=CSEE you can see the &'s are replaced with "& a m p ;" is there any way to fix this?
