• stop form during submission if it validates incorrectly

    - by muqman
I am trying to use JavaScript to validate forms but if the form doesn't validate, I don't want the form to be sent to the "action" page. The validator: The form itself: But all this does is if the tname field empty, it will return an alert but as soon as the user hits ok, the form then redirects to some_file.php. What have I missed here? The submit button: Signup So what have I missed? How do I avoid this in the future?

  • Why the input and the select do not get the same width?

    - by Bytecode Ninja
I have a table with two rows. The first row contains an input and the second row contains a select. Even though I have set their widths to be 100%, the select box is a few pixels smaller than the input. Any ideas why is this so and how can I set their widths to be equal to each other and as big as possible (e.g. %100) in a way that works across all (A-grade) browsers?

Description

Group

  name

  • Do something before closing the browser window

    - by Adam Kiss
Hello, we have an web-application built in flash (it's actually just getting built :D) where is very important to be notified, when user closes his window. Since it's in flash, we do not worry about Javascript, we do not support non-javascript users. What is the safest (meaning it's 100% sure it gets called) X-browser way to call php script to close session, make some db changes, etc.? Thank you

  • Hyperlinks within a table - ''.$row['username'].''

    - by Taimur
Hi, I have made a leaderboard table on my site, which returns the users in the MySQL database with the highest scores (score is a separate field). The fields in the leaderboard table are 'rank' 'username' and 'score'. I would like to link each username in the table to it's own profile page. The profile pages are in the format /profile.php?user=$username. How would I go about adding an within the table (which is echoed in php): echo '

' .$a. '

' .$row['username']. '

'.$row['count'].'

'; I've tried the above, but it doesn't seem to work. It shows the usernames, but they don't have any hyperlinks. Thanks

  • How to prevent Firefox from putting shadows around input boxes which have had their background colou

    - by Andrew
Hi there, I'm creating a set of input fields and using javascript's .style.backgroundColor = "red" to change the colour of any invalid fields. In Chrome, there is no problem. However, in Firefox, as soon as I touch the backgroundColor (even if I set it to white) then I get these strange shadow effects. Does anyone know what's going on? before: http://imgur.com/xYRLT.png after: http://imgur.com/R1tdI.png

  • Programatticaly grabing text from a web page that is dynamically generated.

    - by bstullkid
There is a website I am trying to pull information from in perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is

I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it!

  • IE6 is duplicating characters, can't figure out why. Suggestions?

    - by Paul
Problem is located on http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/ We have a dresses slider at the bottom, select tabs different dresses shown. Works fine everywhere else, but for some reason, in IE6, the letters "ls" (from the tab "Best Deals") are duplicating inside the content and causing rendering issues. I've yet to find anything that can fix this, or anything that can be blamed for causing this either. I've changed the letters at the end of Best Deals, and the duplicated letters change as well. Open to any suggestions.

  • How to prevent auto correction / suggestion of text in textarea?

    - by pinky
We provide a page where a student can provide his answer to a certain question. This information is obtained via an input text area box and we would prefer that the browser doesn't auto correct and indicate grammatical errors on the student responses (e.g. obey is correct but obay is wrong). The browser shows a red underline if there are grammatical mistakes. How do I prevent this across all browsers.

  • $_POST Variable Detected in Chrome but not in Firefox

    - by user1707973
I am using 2 images in a form to sort out query results from the database. The form is submitted using the POST method. When i click on the first image, the query results have to be sorted in ascending order, and when i click on the second, the results have to be sorted in the descending order. This is the code for the form: Now this is the code for checking if the $_REQUEST['sort'] variable is set and therefore whether sorting is required or not. if ($_REQUEST['sort'] != "") { $sort = $_REQUEST['sort']; $typep = $_REQUEST['typep']; //query to be executed depending on values of $sort and $typep } Firefox does detect the $_REQUEST['typep'] variable but not the $_REQUEST['sort'] one. This works perfectly in Chrome though. When i test the site in Firefox, it doesn't detect the $_REQUEST['sort'] variable and therefore the if condition evaluates to false and the search results don't get sorted.

  • How do I make a expanding textbox?

    - by jpjp
I want to make a textbook where it starts out as a given width/height. Then if users type more then the given amount of space, the textbox expands downward. How do I go about doing this? Do I use css? The basic textbox just displays a scroll bar when users pass the number of rows allow. How do I make it so the textbox expands the rows by say 5 more?
How do i use the example that Robert Harvey mentioned? I never used javascript before..

  • using partials in view helpers

    - by takeshin
Creating custom Zend View helpers I often end up with something like: // logic here if ($condition) { $output = <<<EOS... } else { $output = <<<EOS... } or using switch. Then to eliminate this, I create setPartial(), getPartial() and htmlize() for using external .phtml's. This is not the best solution, because partials do not support doctype changing. Is there any better solution, than creating abstract class handling this common case? Are there any ready Zend solutions for this case? Separate view helper for each case? And where to put common code?

  • Firing a Keyboard Event at the Body - JavaScript (?)

    - by user317985
I've done a lot of research on this but have come up empty handed. What I would like to do is invoke or create an event for the right arrow key (Key Code 39). I was planning on using an onclick event inside an tag to go to a function where this event could be 'fired'. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone needs context, I have a jQuery content slider that's functionality is very hard to alter and currently the functionality I need to emulate only occurs when a user hits the right arrow on their keyboard. What I would like to do is tie an onclick() event to a image that when clicked on fires the right keyboard event and the content will slide. Please let me know if I can provide further details or explanation. My working demo for this is: http://greenplanet3d.com

  • Does this query fetch unnecessary information? Should I change the query?

    - by Camran
I have this classifieds website, and I have about 7 tables in MySql where all data is stored. I have one main table, called "classifieds". In the classifieds table, there is a column called classified_id. This is not the PK, or a key whatsoever. It is just a number which is used for me to JOIN table records together. Ex: classifieds table: fordon table: id => 33 id => 12 classified_id => 10 classified_id => 10 ad_id => 'bmw_m3_92923' This above is linked together by the classified_id column. Now to the Q, I use this method to fetch all records WHERE the column ad_id matches any of the values inside an array, called in this case $ad_arr: SELECT mt.*, fordon.*, boende.*, elektronik.*, business.*, hem_inredning.*, hobby.* FROM classified mt LEFT JOIN fordon ON fordon.classified_id = mt.classified_id LEFT JOIN boende ON boende.classified_id = mt.classified_id LEFT JOIN elektronik ON elektronik.classified_id = mt.classified_id LEFT JOIN business ON business.classified_id = mt.classified_id LEFT JOIN hem_inredning ON hem_inredning.classified_id = mt.classified_id LEFT JOIN hobby ON hobby.classified_id = mt.classified_id WHERE mt.ad_id IN ('$ad_arr')"; Is this good or would this actually fetch unnecessary information? Check out this Q I posted couple of days ago. In the comments HLGEM is commenting that it is wrong etc etc. What do you think? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2782275/another-rookie-question-how-to-implement-count-here Thanks

  • Highlighting a radio button with CSS

    - by dsoftware
I have been trying to highlight a radio button with CSS but have been unsuccessful to get styling to work in FireFox. I see some methods of using images to render highlighting. Is there a preferred way to handle radio button highlighting across multiple browsers? Example The text box will have a border that is red but the radio button will not take the border color?

  • How to align checkboxes and their labels consistently cross-browsers

    - by One Crayon
This is one of the minor CSS problems that plagues me constantly. How do folks around StackOverflow vertically align checkboxes and their labels consistently cross-browser? Whenever I align them right in Safari (usually using vertical-align: baseline on the input), they're completely off in Firefox and IE. Fix it in Firefox, and Safari and IE are inevitably messed up. I waste time on this every time I code a form. Here's the standard code that I work with:
  Label text
I usually use Eric Meyer's reset, so form elements are relatively clean of overrides. Looking forward to any tips or tricks that you have to offer!

  • How to make checkboxes have the same submit behavior as other inputs?

    - by Tim Santeford
I have a search form where several checkboxes are checked by default. When the form submits, as a GET, the url will only contain the list of checkboxes that were left checked. http://www.example.com/page/?checkbox1=yes&checkbox2=yes It is difficult with this scenario to determine the difference between when a user first arrives at this search page and when they submit the form with all checkboxes unchecked because the querystrings look the same. To combat this problem I have started injecting a hidden field before the checkbox with the same name and a 'no' value. When the checkbox is unchecked the browser will send the hidden field's no value and when the checkbox is set then the browser is overriding the hidden field with the checkbox's 'yes' value. when the user submits the form with all checkboxes unchecked I get this querystring: http://www.example.com/page/?checkbox1=no&checkbox2=no This seems to work on ff, chrome, ie5.5+ so I'am I safe in using this method or is there a better way to make checkboxes submit like inputs and selects?

  • Best practice to hide/encrypt email adress in webpage

    - by Sebi
I couldn't find a similar question, that's why here it is: Whats the best way to hide or encrypt an email link in a website, so that a crawler can't read it, but the user can nevertheless click it? I don't want to conufse the users by typing the email like this: john (at) mail.com or similar ways. (and i think this kind of links can nevertheless read by crawlers?) I also tried things like that: but i heard this can also be read by crawler and it isn't really good practices are ther any common approaches?

  • Trying to created a tabled layout won't work with CSS

    - by ct2k7
Hello, I'm trying to recreate a sort of table layout of a contact form. Here's the current form: http://www.radonsystems.net/contact-us and this is what the work-in-progress is like http://www.radonsystems.net/newsite/?do=contact-us As you can see, there is an issue with the second form - I just don't know how to fix it. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? The style (CSS) for that part, is nearly 100% copied over, only that I've changed the font, but kept within same family.
