  • Naming Suggestions For A Function Providing Chaining In A Different Way

    - by sid3k
I've coded an experimental function which makes passed objects chainable by using high order functions. It's name is "chain" for now, and here is a usage example; chain("Hello World") (print) // evaluates print function by passing "Hello World" object. (console.log,"Optional","Parameters") (returnfrom) // returns "Hello World" It looks lispy but behaves very different since it's coded in a C based language, I don't know if there is a name for this idiom and I couldn't any name more suitable than "chain". Any ideas, suggestions?

  • Java Garbage Collection

    - by pietervn
I was wondering about the garbage collection that takes place in Java. Is it really able to handle all objects that aren't used and free up the most possible memory? I also want to know how does the Java garbage collection compare to another language like lets say C#? And then, how does the automatic garbage collection measure up against manual collection from a language like C?

  • Snap to Grid UI in Cappuccino

    - by Grnbeagle
Does anyone know how to do snap-to-grid in Cappuccino? Basically, I have draggable objects which I can drag into a target area. The target view needs to be set up with snap-to-grid feature. I've seen it with Mockingbird, so it's definitely possible. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

  • How to style a treeview in Expression Blend

    - by RobDemo
(Using Expression Blend 4 RC, Silverlight 3) I have a treeview with several different item templates for different levels. When I open this project in Blend, it seems I can only really style the top-most DataTemplate (via right-click the TreeView in the Objects/Timeline view, Edit Additional Templates-Edit Generated Items (ItemTemplate) - Edit Current). How do I drill down into the level I want and edit those templates? Rob

  • How to check if a file is a DLL?

    - by PierreBdR
Given a file, I want to check if this is a DLL, or a shared object (Linux) or a dylib (Mac OS X), or something different. My main interest is differentiating executable and DLL on Linux and Mac OS X. For windows, the extension should be enough for my problem. I already checked that the magic number technique doesn't work for Linux as executable and shared objects both have the same number.

  • Asp.net mvc, entity framework, Poco - Architecture

    - by user1576228
I have a "small" enterprise application, aspnet mvc 3 + entity framework with POCO entity and repository pattern. I structured the solution in 4 projects: POCO entities Domain model Services web application When the application performs a query on the database, use one of the services provided, the service uses the repository and the small classes, as a result I have some dynamic proxy objects that I would like to convert in my domain entities, before using them in mvc views, but I do not know how. Dovrebber be set as the translator? This approach is reasonable?

  • Repeating procedure for every item in class

    - by Hendriksen123
Data.XX.NewValue := Data.XX.SavedValue; Data.XX.OldValue := Data.XX.SavedValue; I need to do the above a large number of times, where XX represents the value in the class. Pretending there were 3 items in the list: Tim, Bob, Steve. Is there any way to do the above for all three people without typing out the above code three times? (Data is a class containing a number of Objects, each type TList, which contain OldValue, NewValue and SavedValue)

  • What sort of Circular Dependencies does Oracle allow?

    - by Neil
Hi all, I am creating test cases and I need to cover circular dependencies. So far I have been able to create two tables such that Table A has a FK to B and B has a FK to A. What other circular dependencies exist / are allowed between objects? I tried to create cycles between Views but Oracle successfully rejected that.

  • Implementing dynamic scope when using CPS as intermediate language

    - by asandroq
I am currently studying the implementation of programming languages and became interested in using Continuation-Passing Style as the intermediate language of the compiler. I also want to implement limited dynamic scope (for exception-handling or Scheme parameter objects) but I cannot find the relevant literature. I think it can be done with a separate environment passed as a variable to every closure, but this solution seems ugly to me. Could anyone point me to the relevant literature, or give me an idea of how this can be done?

  • Best practices for caching results of JSP pages?

    - by Spines
My application has an MVC structure. How should I structure my application to allow for maximum caching? Is it sufficient to only cache the model objects that are passed to the JSP views? Or will there be a significant performance boost from caching the results of the rendering of the JSP views too?

  • Is there a pretty print for PHP?

    - by Aaron Lee
I'm fixing some PHP scripts and I'm missing ruby's pretty printer. i.e. require 'pp' arr = {:one => 1} pp arr will output {:one = 1}. This even works with fairly complex objects and makes digging into an unknown script much easier. Is there some way to duplicate this functionality in PHP?

  • Has anyone here tried using the iSeries Python port?

    - by nearly_lunchtime
I found http://www.iseriespython.com/, which is a version of Python for the iSeries apparently including some system specific data access classes. I am keen to try this out, but will have to get approval at work to do so. My questions are: Does the port work well, or are there limits to what the interpreter can handle compared with standard Python implementations? Does the iSeries database access layer work well, creating usable objects from table definitions?

  • Returning content directly from memcache - Django / HTTP Server

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I've built a web application with Django, I'm using Memcached in order to cache data. A few views cache the whole HttpResponse objects, therefore there might be a better alternative for returning the Memcached data other than going through Django. What could be faster alternatives for returning Memcached data on HTTP Requests ? I'm trying to make the operation as fast and lightweight as possible. Help would be much appreciated! :)

  • MKMap showing detail of annotations

    - by yeohchan
I have encountered a problem of populating the description for each annotation. Each annotation works, but there is somehow an area when trying to click on it. Here is the code. the one in bold is the one that has the problem. -(void)viewDidLoad{ FlickrFetcher *fetcher=[FlickrFetcher sharedInstance]; NSArray *rec=[fetcher recentGeoTaggedPhotos]; for(NSDictionary *dic in rec){ NSLog(@"%@",dic); NSDictionary *string = [fetcher locationForPhotoID:[dic objectForKey:@"id"]]; double latitude = [[string objectForKey:@"latitude"] doubleValue]; double longitude = [[string objectForKey:@"longitude"]doubleValue]; if(latitude !=0 && latitude != 0 ){ CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate1 = { latitude, longitude }; **NSDictionary *adress=[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:[dic objectForKey:@"owner"],[dic objectForKey:@"title"],nil];** MKPlacemark *anArea=[[MKPlacemark alloc]initWithCoordinate:coordinate1 addressDictionary:adress]; [mapView addAnnotation:anArea]; } } } Here is what the Flickr class does: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #define TEST_HIGH_NETWORK_LATENCY 0 typedef enum { FlickrFetcherPhotoFormatSquare, FlickrFetcherPhotoFormatLarge } FlickrFetcherPhotoFormat; @interface FlickrFetcher : NSObject { NSManagedObjectModel *managedObjectModel; NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *persistentStoreCoordinator; } // Returns the 'singleton' instance of this class + (id)sharedInstance; // // Local Database Access // // Checks to see if any database exists on disk - (BOOL)databaseExists; // Returns the NSManagedObjectContext for inserting and fetching objects into the store - (NSManagedObjectContext *)managedObjectContext; // Returns an array of objects already in the database for the given Entity Name and Predicate - (NSArray *)fetchManagedObjectsForEntity:(NSString*)entityName withPredicate:(NSPredicate*)predicate; // Returns an NSFetchedResultsController for a given Entity Name and Predicate - (NSFetchedResultsController *)fetchedResultsControllerForEntity:(NSString*)entityName withPredicate:(NSPredicate*)predicate; // // Flickr API access // NOTE: these are blocking methods that wrap the Flickr API and wait on the results of a network request // // Returns an array of Flickr photo information for photos with the given tag - (NSArray *)photosForUser:(NSString *)username; // Returns an array of the most recent geo-tagged photos - (NSArray *)recentGeoTaggedPhotos; // Returns a dictionary of user info for a given user ID. individual photos contain a user ID keyed as "owner" - (NSString *)usernameForUserID:(NSString *)userID; // Returns the photo for a given server, id and secret - (NSData *)dataForPhotoID:(NSString *)photoID fromFarm:(NSString *)farm onServer:(NSString *)server withSecret:(NSString *)secret inFormat:(FlickrFetcherPhotoFormat)format; // Returns a dictionary containing the latitue and longitude where the photo was taken (among other information) - (NSDictionary *)locationForPhotoID:(NSString *)photoID; @end

  • Java constructor with large arguments or Java bean getter/setter approach

    - by deelo55
Hi, I can't decide which approach is better for creating objects with a large number of fields (10+) (all mandatory) the constructor approach of the getter/setter. Constructor at least you enforce that all the fields are set. Java Beans easier to see which variables are being set instead of a huge list. The builder pattern DOES NOT seem suitable here as all the fields are mandatory and the builder requires you put all mandatory parameters in the builder constructor. Thanks, D
