• Connecting Ingres from C

  I need to connect to an Ingres supplied demodb through OpenAPI, both Ingres and C application running on windows. What i have done: Created a "node" in the Ingres Network Utility named "usernode". created user accounts in the Ingres installation (named "user" password "user") and in the Windows user management (the same creds.) Granted necessary privileges to the user in the database. In C code i have called IIapi_connect() function with an IIAPI_CONNPARM structure. Used members: co_target = "usernode::demodb", co_username = "user", co_password = "user" But IIapi_connect() call returns an error: "User provided a vnode as part of the database name (vnode::dbname), but connection information for that vnode is missing. Enter connection information for the vnode using NETUTIL." Anybody knows something that is a weird concept "node"? What are the minimum steps (in the database administration and the function parameters passing) necessary for the successful connect?

• about option buttons in User form

  I have a question: I need to create a user form that contain that usual OK and Cancel Buttons. It also should contain two sets of Options buttons, each set placed inside a frame. The captions on the first set should be basketball, baseball, football, the captions on the second set should be watch on TV and Go to games. I need to write the event handlers and code in a module so that when the program runs, the user sees the form. If the user makes a couple of choices and clicks OK, he should see a message like "Your favorite sport is basketball, and you usually watch on TV." If the user clicks Cancel, the message "Sorry you don't want to play" should appear. I think I almost have it working, but I don't know why I cannot successfully execute the Macro. • Is it bad practice to use python's getattr extensively?

  I'm creating a shell-like environment. My original method of handleing user input was to use a dictionary mapping commands (strings) to methods of various classes, making use of the fact that functions are first class objects in python. For flexibility's sake (mostly for parsing commands), I'm thinking of changing my setup such that I'm using getattr(command), to grab the method I need and then passing arguments to it at the end of my parser. Another advantage of this approach is not having to update my (currently statically implemented) command dictionary every time I add a new method/command. My question is, will I be taking a hit to the efficiency of my shell? Does it matter how many methods/commands I have? I'm currently looking at 30 some commands, which could eventually double.

• ASP.Net: User control with content area, it's clearly possible but I need some details.

  I have seen two suggestions for my original question about whether it is possible to define a content area inside a user control and there are some helpful suggestions i.e. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1971498/passing-in-content-to-asp-net-user-control and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1912283/asp-net-user-control-inner-content Now, I like the theory of the latter better than the former just for aesthetic reasons. It seems to make more sense to me but the example given uses two variables content and templateContent that the answerer has not defined in their example code. Without these details I have found that the example does not work. I guess they are properties of the control? Or some such? The former example seems workable but I'd prefer to go with the latter if someone could fill in the blanks for me. Thanks.

• Facebook: Social Widgets versus Share

  Hello all, I am interested in people's thoughts on Facebook's new social widgets thing. Most notably the new "Like" button. The concept I am struggling with is the difference between "Like" and "Share". I have an existing Connect application. This application has its own fan page on Facebook. People can become "Fans" of the page and register to receive email updates and the like. The application is currently programmed to update its own fan page any time content is added to the site. Enter Social Widgets and "Like". People who visit our site can currently "share" our content on Facebook. With "Share" they can post a full item to their wall with a comment or send the content item as a message to another Facebook user. "Like" seems to do the same thing minus the message part. However "Like" automatically subscribes people to the fan page. My question is simply, should I add "Like" to my existing Connect site? Is "Like" different than what I already have? Are Social Widgets the future of Connect? Thanks!

• Boost::Asio - Remove the "null"-character in the end of tcp packets.

  I'm trying to make a simple msn client mostly for fun but also for educational purposes. And I started to try some tcp package sending and receiving using Boost Asio as I want cross-platform support. I have managed to send a "VER"-command and receive it's response. However after I send the following "CVR"-command, Asio casts an "End of file"-error. After some further researching I found by packet sniffing that my tcp packets to the messenger server got an extra "null"-character (Ascii code: 00) at the end of the message. This means that my VER-command gets an extra character in the end which I don't think the messenger server like and therefore shuts down the connection when I try to read the CVR response. This is how my package looks when sniffing it, (it's Payload): (Hex:) 56 45 52 20 31 20 4d 53 4e 50 31 35 20 43 56 52 30 0a 0a 00 (Char:) VER 1 MSNP15 CVR 0... and this is how Adium(chat client for OS X)'s package looks: (Hex:) 56 45 52 20 31 20 4d 53 4e 50 31 35 20 43 56 52 30 0d 0a (Char:) VER 1 MSNP15 CVR 0.. So my question is if there is any way to remove the null-character in the end of each package, of if I've misunderstood something and used Asio in a wrong way. • Google Maps API v3 not working

  I've been banging my head on the wall after going through the documentation on this several times! I can't seem to get past the API error to get the map to appear on my site. I am getting the following error message from the web page where I want the map to be displayed: ~~~~~~~~~~~ Google has disabled use of the Maps API for this application. The provided key is not a valid Google API Key, or it is not authorized for the Google Maps Javascript API v3 on this site. • "Access is denied" by executing .hta file with JScript on Windows XP x64

  I have a simple HTML (as HTA) application that shows strange behavior on Windows XP x64 machine. I getting periodically (not every time) error message "Access is denied." when i start the application. The same application on Windows XP 32bit runs just fine... • 'WebException' error on back button even when calling 'void' async method

  I have a windows phone app that allows the user to interact with it. Each interaction will always result in an async WCF call. In addition to that, some interactions will result in opening the browser, maps, email, etc... The problem is that, when hitting the back button, I sometime get the following error "An error (WebException) occurred while transmitting data over the HTTP channel." with the following stack trace: at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelUtilities.ProcessGetResponseWebException(WebException webException, HttpWebRequest request, HttpAbortReason abortReason) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelAsyncRequest.CompleteGetResponse(IAsyncResult result) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelAsyncRequest.OnGetResponse(IAsyncResult result) at System.Net.Browser.ClientHttpWebRequest.<>c__DisplayClassa.<InvokeGetResponseCallback>b__8(Object state2) at System.Threading.ThreadPool.WorkItem.WaitCallback_Context(Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ThreadPool.WorkItem.doWork(Object o) at System.Threading.Timer.ring() My understanding is that it's happening because my app opened another app (browser, maps, etc) before it had the time to execute the EndMyAsyncMethod(System.IAsyncResult result). Fair enough... What's really annoying is that it seems it should get fixed by cloning the server-side method, only making it void with the following operation contract [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] but I'm still getting the error. What's worse is that the exception is thrown in a system-generated part of the code and, thus, cannot be manually caught causing the app to just crash. I simply don't understand the need to execute an Endxxx method when it's explicitely marked as OneWay and void. EDIT I did find a similar issue here. It does seem that it is related to the message getting to the service (not the client callback). My next question is: if I'm now calling a method marked AsyncPattern and OneWay, what exactly should I be waiting for on the client to be sure the message was transmitted successfully? • Javascript function as a parameter to another function?

  Hello there, I'm learning lots of javascript these days, and one of the things I'm not quite understanding is passing functions as parameters to other functions. I get the concept of doing such things, but I myself can't come up with any situations where this would be ideal? My question is: When do you want to have your javascript functions take another function as a parameter? Why not just assign a variable to that functions return value and pass that variable to the function like so: // Why not do this var foo = doStuff(params); callerFunction(foo); //instead of this callerFunction(doStuff); I'm confused as to why I would ever choose to do things as in my second example. Why would you do this? What are the use cases? Thanks!!

• Have you switched from CodeIgniter to Kohana?

  Hi All, I usually just work with straight PHP, but want to try MVC and see if a framework will really speed up development. After much waffling, analysis paralysis, and many dumb SO questions, I thought I had settled on CodeIgniter for my next PHP project. However, I am now seriously considering Kohana. Has anyone made the switch from CI to Kohana? If so, why? What's better about the actual code, libraries, etc? Edit: Hi All, I did end up going with Kohana. It's easy to use, but more importantly, it's easy NOT to use, since there are a lot of things I like to work with native PHP for. It's ridiculously extensible, well coded, and seems like it is beginning to pull out ahead of CI in a few things like putting views in views, passing subview data, etc. I am sure CI will catch up, but Kohana should be 3 steps ahead by then =o)

  Dear all, I can't figure out how to optimally do the following in PHP: In a database, I have messages with a unique ID, like 19041985. Now, I want to refer to these messages in a short-url service but not using generated hashes but by simply 'calculate' the original ID. In other words, for example: http://short.url/sYsn7 should let me calculate the message ID the visitor would like to request. To make it more obvious, I wrote the following in PHP to generate these 'alphanumeric ID versions' and of course, the other way around will let me calculate the original message ID. The question is: Is this the optimal way of doing this? • Dealing with SQLException with spring,hibernate & Postgres

  Hi im working on a project using HibernateDaoSUpport from my Daos from Spring & spring-ws & hibernate & postgres who will be used in a national application (means a lot of users) Actually, every exception from hibernate is automatically transformed into some specific Spring dataAccesException. I have a table with a keyword on the dabatase & a unique constraint on the keywords : no duplicate keywords is allowed. I have found twows ways to deal with with that in the Insert Dao: 1- Check for the duplicate manually (with a select) prior to doing your insert. I means that the spring transaction will have a SERIALIZABLE isolation level. The obvious drawback is that we have now 2 queries for a simple insert.Advantage: independent of the database 2-let the insert gone & catch the SqlException & convert it to a userfriendly message & errorcode to the final consumer of our webservices. Solution 2: Spring has developped a way to translate specific exeptions into customized exceptions. see http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/marx_spring.html In my case i would have a ConstraintViolationException. Ideally i would like to write a custom SQLExceptionTranslator to map the duplicate word constraint in the database with a DuplicateWordException. But i can have many unique constraints on the same table. So i have to get the message of the SQLEXceptions in order to find the name of the constraint declared in the create table "uq_duplicate-constraint" for example. • Why first arg to execve() must be path to executable

  I understand that execve() and family require the first argument of its argument array to be the same as the executable that is also pointed to by its first argument. That is, in this: execve(prog, args, env); args[0] will usually be the same as prog. But I can't seem to find information as to why this is. I also understand that executables (er, at least shell scripts) always have their calling path as the first argument when running, but I would think that the shell would do the work to put it there, and execve() would just call the executable using the path given in its first argument ("prog" from above), then passing the argument array ("args" from above) as one would on the command line.... i.e., I don't call scripts on the command line with a duplicate executable path in the args list.... /bin/ls /bin/ls /home/john Can someone explain?

  Hello, I am trying to implement user-friendly URLS, while keeping the existing routes, and was able to do so using the ActionName tag on top of my controller (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/436866/can-you-overload-controller-methods-in-asp-net-mvc) I have 2 controllers: ActionName("UserFriendlyProjectIndex")] public ActionResult Index(string projectName) { ... } public ActionResult Index(long id) { ... } Basically, what I am trying to do is I store the user-friendly URL in the database for each project. If the user enters the URL /Project/TopSecretProject/, the action UserFriendlyProjectIndex gets called. I do a database lookup and if everything checks out, I want to apply the exact same logic that is used in the Index action. I am basically trying to avoid writing duplicate code. I know I can separate the common logic into another method, but I wanted to see if there is a built-in way of doing this in ASP.NET MVC. Any suggestions? • How do you use FastInfoset with JAXWS?

  I've got code that looks like it should be correct based on what I can find, but the spewed output doesn't indicate that it's using FastInfoset. My understanding is the Accept should indicate it can accept Fastinfoset and the response would actually use it, meaning it's not text/xml as the response type. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've scoured with Google and I'm having a hard time finding much detail on how to use FastInfoset at all. • How to properly set JavaMail timeout setting

  I am using JavaMail to connect to a POP3 server. Further, I set the following properties, so that JavaMail won't wait to long if an email server doesn't respond: props.setProperty("mail.pop3.connectionpooltimeout", "3000"); props.setProperty("mail.pop3.connectiontimeout", "3000"); props.setProperty("mail.pop3.timeout", "3000"); However, in some cases the timeout works properly but sometimes JavaMail freezes for minutes(!) with the following debug message: DEBUG POP3: connecting to host "pop3.yahoo.com", port 110, isSSL false Changing ports or protocols (SSL, TLS..) has no effect. I assume that the host simply doesn't exist. For example, if I poll pop3.yahoo.com instead of pop.mail.yahoo.com (which would be the right host name), I have to wait very long til a timeout exception occurs. After several minutes, I get the following exception and the application continues to run: java.net.ConnectException: Operation timed out pop3.yahoo.com seems to exist but won't respond: localhost:~ me$ ping pop3.yahoo.com PING pop3.yahoo.com (206.190.46.10): 56 data bytes Request timeout for icmp_seq 0 Request timeout for icmp_seq 1 Request timeout for icmp_seq 2 Request timeout for icmp_seq 3 ^C You might be asking why I use pop3.yahoo.com instead of pop.mail.yahoo.com. Well, I simply wanted to test what happens if the user of my application inserts a wrong host name. I believe that this issue is related to this report http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/[email protected]/180946.html where the poster claims that the problem occurs if the email server closes the connection. JavaMail then seems to wait very long (don't know why). Since the issue wasn't resolved in the link I posted: Does somebody know how to fix or at least debug this? • Client or server side invocation to google API?

  I'm writing a web application with GWT and I've to call google calendar's API to retrieve some information. I now have this dilemma: Is it better to use a client side invocation (using javascript or gwt-gdata library) or using the standard google library for java to call the service at server side and then passing all the data to the client via an async call?? I'm not able to understand pros and cons of the two approaches... In particular, I need to call several time the calendar API to retrieve events and let users add new ones, etc. Can you help me?

• Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question. • Are returned locals automatically xvalues

  Following on from a comment I made on this: passing std::vector to constructor and move semantics Is the std::move necessary in the following code, to ensure that the returned value is a xvalue? std::vector<string> buildVector() { std::vector<string> local; // .... build a vector return std::move(local); } It is my understanding that this is required. I have often seen this used when returning a std::unique_ptr from a function, however GManNickG made the following comment: It is my understanding that in a return statement all local variables are automatically xvalues (expiring values) and will be moved, but I'm unsure if that only applies to the returned object itself. So OP should go ahead and put that in there until I'm more confident it shouldn't have to be. :) Can anyone clarify if the std::move is necessary? Is the behaviour compiler dependent?

• Sorting and Pagination does not work after I build a custom keyword search that is build using relat

  I recently started to build a custom keyword search using Yii 1.1.x The search works 100%. But as soon as I sort the columns and use pagination in the admin view the search gets lost and all results are shown. So with otherwords it's not filtering so that only the search results show. Somehow it resets it. • How can I stop a default event when using a named function in addEvent?

  Normally, if I wish to stop a default event in mootools I can do this: $('form').addEvent('submit', function(e) { e.stop(); //Do stuff here } However, I don't like using an anonymous function in events because I often want to reuse the code. Lets say I have a validate function. I could do this: $('form').addEvent('submit', validate); which works fine until I want to stop the default event. validate obviously doesn't know what e is so I can't just do e.stop(). Also I've tried passing the event as a variable to validate but whenever I use a named function with parameters, the function gets called automatically on domready, rather than on the event firing. Even worse, an error is thrown when the event is fired: What am I doing wrong?
