• Anyone get mach_inject working on snow leopard?

  Project is now on github and here is the link to my issue I successfully compiled the whole thing and able to run rejector and rejectee separately.   Hi, I have a modal popup extender which is triggered by gridview onRowCommand. The gridview and the modal popup extender is in different updatePanel. The panel which assigned to PopupControlID of the mpe contains a textbox and a button. This button will triggered a page method web service that will return a value to be assigned to the textbox. My problem is when I click the button, after partial post back, the mpe disapper (hide). I tried everything to make it show.   Hullo First, I want to use bash for this and the script should run on as many systems as possible (I don't know if the target system will have python or whatever installed). Here's the problem: I have a file with binary data and I need to replace a few bytes in a certain position. I've come up with the following to direct bash to the offset and show me that it found the place I want: dd bs=1 if=file iseek=24 conv=block cbs=2 | hexdump Now, to use "file" as the output: echo anInteger | dd bs=1 of=hextest.txt oseek=24 conv=block cbs=2 This seems to work just fine, I can review the changes made in a hex editor. Problem is, "anInteger" will be written as the ASCII representation of that integer (which makes sense) but I need to write the binary representation. How do I tell the command to convert the input to binary (possibly from a hex)?

• Any best practices with feedback colours?

  I have a few that I think are correct. These are background colours for messages. ERROR: red; INFO: blue; SUCCESS: green; NOT IMPORTANT INFO: yellow Have I got the blue and yellow around the wrong way? Any hex values that are a de facto standard for these? I am curious considering web development, but I think the answers will be agnostic. Here is an interesting thought (I'm sure I've read about it in an article). What colours would the errors be on Target's website, considering all their branding is red?

• Process-wide hook using SetWindowsHookEx

  I need to inject a dll into one or more external processes, from which I also want to intercept keybord events. That's why using SetWindowsHookEx with WH_KEYBOARD looks like an easy way to achieve both things in a single step. Now I really don't want to install a global hook when I'm only interested in a few selected processes, but Windows hooks seem to be either global or thread-only. My question is now how I would properly go about setting up a process-wide hook. I guess one way would be to set up the hook on the target process' main thread from my application, and then doing the same from inside my dll on DLL_PROCESS_ATTACH for all other running threads (plus on DLL_THREAD_ATTACH for threads started later). But is this really a good way? And more important, aren't there any simpler ways to setup process-wide hooks? My idea looks quite cumbersome und ugly, but I wasn't able to find any information about doing this anywhere.

• Reliable portability for C code without relying on the preprocessor

  Relying on the preprocessor and predefined compiler macros for achieving portability seems hard to manage. What's a better way to achieve portability for a C project? I want to put environment-specific code in headers that behave the same way. Is there a way to have the build environment choose which headers to include? I was thinking that I'd put the environment-specific headers into directories for specific environments. The build environment would then just copy the headers from the platform's directory into the root directory, build the project, and then remove the copies.

• What kind of icon should I deploy with my Android 1.x and 2.x application?

  The thing is this, in Android 1.5 and 1.6 we had the Icon Design Guidelines. In this guide there are specifications for application icons. Every application should conform to this. However, in recent Android versions (2.0 and 2.1) icons have changed from the old to this new flat 2D style. Every icon in Nexus One has this style, so not even Google is conforming to the guideline. To see the differences between high and low density icons see this image and compare Evernote icon with the rest. I've been able to use different icons by using two directories with different icons: drawables-hdpi/icon.png and drawables/icon.png, BUT not every Android 2.x is going to be HDPI and not every 1.x Android device is going to be low pixel density. So the question is: Should I deploy different icons for different Android platform version within my apk file? and if I should, How do I do it?

  Well recently I've been reading about different Denial of Service methods. One method that kind of stuck out was SYN flooding. I'm a member of some not-so-nice forums, and someone was selling a python script that would DoS a server using SYN packets with a spoofed IP address. However, if you sent a SYN packet to a server, with a spoofed IP address, the target server would return the SYN/ACK packet to the host that was spoofed. In which case, wouldn't the spoofed host return an RST packet, thus negating the 75 second long-wait, and ultimately failing in its attempt to DoS the server?

  Hi, I am a C# developer and fancy the idea of writing a C# app or two to integrate with the Facebook API. I read from this page: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/User:C_Sharp that there's this Microsoft SDK for Facebook Platform that has binary assemblies that I can use to write my C# app. As a start, I want to try out the example mentioned on the above-mentioned page -- one that gets me a friend list. The problem is: I am completely new to this Facebook development thing and I see I am going to need, at the very least, an API Key and some Facebook service Secret key or some such, to begin writing some code. Do I also need a developer account? Where do I get all these things from?

  If you make a little research on the internet you'll see many DLLImport styles for this user32.dll function: HDC GetDC(HWND hWnd); The question is: what type is more appropriate for .NET x64 apps (either compiled with the Platform target as AnyCPU on a x64 machine or specifically as x64)? IntPtr for example grows to a size of 8 on a x64 process, can this be a problem? Is uint more appropriate than Uint64? What is the size of the pointers this function uses when used in a x64 process? The DLL is called user32.dll does it work as 32bit or 64bit on a x64 operating system?   Hi, I have a FDCC compliant workstation with FIPS 140-1 (Level 1) enabled. Now, i cannot run/debug any VS 2005/2008 applications on my machine I get the following error message on my browser Parser Error Message: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms. the Error points to line no 1 of default.aspx.cs file using system; The only way to successfully debug/run my application is to set the following registry key to 0 HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\fipsalgorithmpolicy I understand that there are some Cryptographic algorithms that are not FIPS compliant on XP SP2 but i am not using cryptography at all. For that matter, the solution contains just default.aspx page with default code in .cs file, and even that fails to run. So my question is why the webpage fails to load, and why the error points to line #1 "using System;" statement? My next question is how can i develop on FIPS compliant locked down maching where i do not have edit rights on registry Thanks kudlur

This is totally going to be learning purposes only. So to start off my question is: Would something like this be achievable using Cocos2d? How would I go about building the physics for this?   What's a better way to start a thread? I'm trying to determine what are the advantages/disadvantages of _beginthread, _beginthreadex and CreateThread. All of these functions return a thread handle to a newly created thread, I already know that CreateThread provides a little extra information when an error occurs (it can be checked by calling GetLastError)... but what are some things I should consider when I'm using these functions? I'm working with a windows application, so cross-platform computability is already out of the question. I have gone through the msdn documentation and I just can't understand, for example, why anybody would decide to use _beginthread instead of CreateThread or vice versa. Cheers! Update: OK, thanks for all the info, I've also read in a couple of places that I can't call WaitForSingleObject() if I used _beginthread(), but if I call _endthread() in the thread shouldn't that work? What's the deal there?

• Shark tool on iphone crashes

  Hi, I am trying to use Shark to profile my app. However, it crashes after I hit "stop" and it analyzes and then goes to "load session". Only once when I decided not to select my app but chose to target "everything" did it actually display some trace. However, I could not reproduce this case. Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? Could it be something to do with the wrong version of Shark or my SDK or some other detail? I have the latest SDK and am running 3.1.3 on the phone. The various documentation I've found on google or via Apple's docs don't seem to be terribly helpful, so if anyone has found some that's useful, I'd love to see it. Thanks.

  Hi, I have an executable that run time should take configuration parameters from a script file. This way I dont need to re-compile the code for every configuration change. Right now I have all the configuration values in a .h file. Everytime I change it i need to re-compile. The platform is C, gcc under Linux. What is the best solution for this problem? I looked up on google and so XML, phthon and Lua bindings for C. Is using a separate scripting language the best approach? If so, which one would you recommend for my need? Thanks

  It is the first time I have ever launched live a website (with Grails web framework under Amazon EC2 platform and Cloud Foundry) and I realized quickly that I am not ready for monitoring and maintening correctly my application in production mode (fortunately the website is accessible to a very limited number of users) . The issues I have faced so far are: Cannot change my views. I need to redeploy my application I have no monitoring. I don't know who is connected, when do they sign in / sign out... Redploying my application (upload WAR + deploy) takes at least 30 minutes. I don't know how to restart my Tomcat server without a redeploy through Cloud Foundry ! ... So, my question is very simple: What tools (including grails plugins) and methods can you recommend me for taking me out from my current blindness?

  Situation: I have an Eclipse RCP Application, which I am trying to build with tycho plugin for Eclipse. When I am executing my Eclipse Application inside of the IDe - the Application is executed normally. When using tycho to build the Application - the following error is thrown: The type org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Button cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files What I did : In other cases where a "missing requirenments" exception was thrown, which I found - a missing transitive plugin-dependency was the reason. In my case an SWT widget "Button" is missing, so I am trying to import swt. SWT is platform dependant so I am importing swt inside of the product, as described here. Anyway, during compilation the error occurs again. Question: Do someone have any Idea, how to solve this Problem?

• IB not responding to UIImageView moving

  This an incredibly annoying bug. I had a imageView and 2 Labels in a customCell nib. I changed the locations of all of them in the nib and the labels moved, view didn't. I've cleaned my targets, deleted everything relating to it the library, deleted the cell completely, reset the simulator, built it on a different target (3.1.2) and it still compiles the image in the same stupid spot. Can anyone help this is nuts. Sorry for being blunt but completely frustrated. Edit: I have deleted the nib and created it over again by hand, but with the same names. Doesn't fix it. I've checked to see if im moving it somewhere in the code and no dice.

• Possible apache/mysql/php wrapper?

  I was tasked with writing a smallish program for data input and manipulation. My language of choice happens to be PHP. I have written out the program/site it all works fine is easily portable and everything but have one question. Is there anyway to wrap up apache/mysql/php into a bundle of one exe? I know of MoWes Portable and other options but I am looking to basically wrap everything up into a single exe without much fuss to the end user. My target users are very low on the computer savvy scale. I am trying to avoid a batch file for launching and don't really want them able to shutdown one part on accident and not another (IE shut off mysql but leave apache on).
