  • Calculating Length Based on Sensor Data

    I've got an IR sensor which writes its current information to a token which I then interpret in a C# application. That's all good -- no problems there, heres my code: SetLabelText(tokens [1],label_sensorValue); sensorreading = Int32.Parse(tokens[0]); sensordistance = (mathfunctionhere); Great. So the further away the IR sensor is from an object, the lower the sensor reading (as less light is reflected back and received by the sensor). My problem is in interpreting that length. I can go ahead and get lets say "110" as a value when an object is 5 inches away, and then "70" as a value when an object is 6 inches away. Now I want to be able to calculate the distance of an object using these constants for any length. Any ideas?

  • Processing command-line arguments in prefix notation in Python

    I'm trying to parse a command-line in Python which looks like the following: $ ./command -o option1 arg1 -o option2 arg2 arg3 In other words, the command takes an unlimited number of arguments, and each argument may optionally be preceded with an -o option, which relates specifically to that argument. I think this is called a "prefix notation". In the Bourne shell I would do something like the following: while test -n "$1" do if test "$1" = '-o' then option="$2" shift 2 fi # Work with $1 (the argument) and $option (the option) # ... shift done Looking around at the Bash tutorials, etc. this seems to be the accepted idiom, so I'm guessing Bash is optimized to work with command-line arguments this way. Trying to implement this pattern in Python, my first guess was to use pop(), as this is basically a stack operation. But I'm guessing this won't work as well on Python because the list of arguments in sys.argv is in the wrong order and would have to be processed like a queue (i.e. pop from the left). I've read that lists are not optimized for use as queues in Python. So, my ideas are: convert argv to a collections.deque and use popleft(), reverse argv using reverse() and use pop(), or maybe just work with the int list indices themselves. Does anyone know of a better way to do this, otherwise which of my ideas would be best-practise in Python?

Can someone explain what's here wrong?

  • Can you automatically create a mysqldump file that doesn't enforce foreign key constraints?

    When I run a mysqldump command on my database and then try to import it, it fails as it attempts to create the tables alphabetically, even though they may have a foreign key that references a table later in the file. There doesn't appear to be anything in the documentation and I've found answers like this that say to update the file after it's created to include: set FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 0; ...original mysqldump file contents... set FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 1; Is there no way to automatically set those lines or export the tables in the necessary order (without having to manually specify all table names as that can be tedious and error prone)? I could wrap those lines in a script, but was wondering if there is an easy way to ensure I can dump a file and then import it without manually updating it.

    Example: Table: box boxID color 01 red 02 blue 03 green Table: boxHas boxID has 01 apple 01 pear 01 grapes 01 banana 02 lime 02 apple 02 pear 03 chihuahua 03 nachos 03 baby crocodile I want to query on the contents of each box, and return a table with each ID, color, and a column that concatenates the contents of each box, so I use: SELECT box.boxID, box.color, GROUP_CONCAT(DISTINCT boxHas.has SEPARATOR ", ") AS contents FROM box LEFT JOIN boxHas ON box.boxID=boxHas.boxID WHERE boxHas.has IN ('apple','pear') GROUP BY box.boxID ORDER BY box.boxID and I get the following table of results: boxID color contents 01 red apple, pear 02 blue apple, pear My question to you is: why isn't it listing ALL the has values in the contents column? Why is my WHERE statement also cropping my GROUP_CONCAT? The table I thought I was going to get is: boxID color contents 01 red apple, banana, grapes, pear 02 blue apple, lime, pear Although I want to limit my boxID results based upon the WHERE statement, I do not want to limit the contents field for valid boxes. :-/ Help?

    Having had a quick look at the Flex docs I can't seem to find any reference to providing audio content to be played from a custom (possibly encrypted - don't worry, it's not that evil) container format. Is this possible and if so, could someone point me in the right direction. Or if that's not possible, some way to hook into the disk/network (disk is much more important in this case) I/O of the sound playing mechanism to provide a supported container in memory from a custom wrapper.

    Hi SO's I have a question on good database design practices and I would like to leverage you guys for pointers. The project started out simple. Hey we have a bunch of questions we want answered for every project (no problem) Which turned into... Hey we have so many questions can we group them into sections (yup we can do that) Which lead into.. Can we weight these questions and I don't really want some of these questions for my project (Yes but we are getting difficult) And then I'm thinking they will want to have each section have it's own weight.. Requirements So there's the requirements - For n number of project Allow a admin member the ability select the questions for a project Allow the admin member to re-weigh or use the default weights for the questions Allow the admin member to re-weight the sections Allow team members to answer the questions.     I have a many-to-many relationship between two entities; Item and Tag. I'm trying to create a predicate to take the selectedItem and return a ranking of items based on how many similar tags they have. So far I've tried: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"SUBQUERY(itemToTag, $item, $item in %@).@count > 0", selectedItem.itemToTag]; Any other iterations that have failed. It currently only returns the selectedItem in the list. I've found little on Subquery. Is there a guru out there that can help me refine this? Thanks in advance for the help!

Here what i am doing in the code is, when they are creating new user i am getting a max id from DB and increasing the value to 1. So that they are getting same ID. so that i am facing concurrency in this situation. How to solve this problem. I need to display different numbers when the users click on NewUser.     I am very new to Python, and trying to figure out how to create an object that has values that are accessible either by attribute name, or by index. For example, the way os.stat() returns a stat_result or pwd.getpwnam() returns a struct_passwd. In trying to figure it out, I've only come across C implementations of the above types. Nothing specifically in Python. What is the Python native way to create this kind of object? I apologize if this has been widely covered already. In searching for an answer, I must be missing some fundamental concept that is excluding me from finding an answer.

However, printing the array in CodeIgniter, it has no value for one field ,seven_profit, where it is there in the SQL query ran in phpMyAdmin, just the discrepancy in this one field, from sql to php array... I just can’t see why, when printing the array, that one field, which should have value of 26, contains nothing? Any ideas? I changed the field name from starting with a number in attempt to fix it, but no difference. I know this is complex and looks horrible, any help or just people coming across something similar would be great to know about, thanks. Sam

    Hello, I'm working on an isometric game for fast browsers that support <canvas>, which is great fun. To save information of each tile, I use a two-dimensional array which contains numbers representing a tile ID, like: var level = [[1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0], [0, 1, 1, 2, 0, 1], [0, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1]]; var tiles = [ {name: 'grass', color: 'green'}, {name: 'water', color: 'blue'}, {name: 'forest', color: 'ForestGreen'} ]; So far it works great, but now I want to work with heights and slopes like in this picture: For each tile I need to save it's tile ID, height and information about which corners are turned upward. I came up with a simple idea about a bitwise representation of all four corners, like this: 1011 // top, bottom and left corner turned up My question is: what is the most efficient way to save these three values for each cell? Is it possible to save these three values as one integer?

From recent bug, it realizes me that if you update some property like Navigation Properties (related data from other table), it will remove current record from database.
